This Old House Idea Home

This Old House is the first show home created by This Old House. Located in Candlelight Forest, a "simpler times" resort just 18 minutes from downtown Chattanooga, this mountain craftsmen home is beautifully decorated with many fine details. The home is nestled on the side of a ridge and overlooks a seasonal brook and a charming farmstead, The Plucky Peacock. This Old House is nestled on evening side Early Moon Ridge. The house overlooks an old hollow where a small seasonal creek runs along its bottom on a seasonal basis to join Mill Creek in the more distant view. Just across the creek is The Plucky Peacock, a farmstand and country store. Similar to the farm operated stores of the past, The Plucky Peacock has similar architecture and details of This Old House, creating a imagery of the old running farm. The architecture of This Old House is Mountain Craftsman. Large stone tapered pillars yield a craftsman influence, while the tall steep pitched roof, make it mountain-esque. It was designed with a goal of proving one can live large and smartly in a smaller home. The house has a large wrap-around porch with a step down patio on the side and the back. Main Floor As you step throught the front door off of the wide front porch, you enter the largest room of the house. The floorpan is open and designed to maximize the laughter around the hearth. A large full masonry chimney welcomes you as you enter. The living, dining room, and kitchen are all one large gathering space, but carefully articulated to read as separate rooms. Double french doors lead to the side porch where there are two dining areas. Below is the patio with a fire bowl and seating area. The back includes a grill area and shaded trellis to hang your ENO for a mid-afternoon nap. Coming back into the house from the rear, you enter the mud room and an adjoining laundry room before entering the kitchen. The mudroom and laundry room are chock full of examples of hoe to save and utilize space. The house has two master suites with the first one on the main. This bedroom is on the front wall with a large window overlooking the hollow below. It has and adjoining walk-in bathroom with access from both ends. 2nd Floor On your way up the stairs to the second floor, you will find several clever niches for art and books. At the top you will arrive at a large landing area adorned with salvaged barn wood. To the right, you have a small desk area under a window for an open space area to work. Just past this and you enter into a h cozy bedroom with twin bunks. On the left side of the landing is a shared bathroom for this same bedroom and the loft room above. Straight ahead in the landing area, and under a loft-ladder, and toward the front of the house, you enter into the second master suite with a large and very roomy walk-in bathroom. The view from this bedroom over the hollow is beautiful. The Loft Back into landing area, you can ascend the salvaged barn wood loft-ladders. Here you will find the most cozy of spaces of the home. On one end are two twin beds, on the other end of the loft is a small play or reading area. Guests have full access to their private Treehouse and all of Candlelight Forest, close to 200 acres of preserve including two small mountain lakes, a creek and many trails and amenities. We believe we have carved out a unique niche in the getaway/resort venue industry. We have a devoted team that wants to ensure you have an amazing time at Candlelight Forest, recreating and relaxing yourselves in a world that hearkens back to a simpler time. Our amenities are designed to bring families and loved ones into the great outdoors and closer to each other for the very best of memories. We hope you will come and enjoy this very unique world of simpler times and simple pleasures. Chattanooga is fast becoming the gem of the south. We have a great backdoor into downtown, with no traffic, through our quiet Chattanooga Valley. These accommodations are perfectly located to take in Chattanooga and the many surrounding attractions that abound nearby, including Cloudland Canyon State Park, Rock City, Ruby Falls, and The Chickamauga National Battlefield Park, all about 20 minutes away.
