Send me a private message and we can discuss. ** The open kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed for meal prep and cooking. have lots of games and toys. I'm sure you'll also find a puzzle to work on, while not enjoying the outdoors or exploring in Memphis, that's one of our favorite past times while we're at the lake. The washer and dryer are available for your use and come in handy after a day out on the water. You'll love our new gas grill, but we ask that you do provide propane for it. Horseshoe Lake (Crittenden County) Latitude and Longitude: 34º54’48″N 090º18’26″W Elevation: 203 feet Area: 0.136 square miles (2010 Census) Population: 292 (2010 Census) Incorporation Date: September 19, 1983 The town of Horseshoe Lake is located on the old Seyppel area in Crittenden County at the east end of the lake from which it takes its name. Horseshoe Lake is predominately a bedroom community, with the surrounding area consisting of farmland where cotton, feed corn, soybeans, and milo are grown. Some cattle are also raised on the high ground of the levee. The Great River Road encircles the lake. Several legendary blues musicians, including B. B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, and Hurbert Sumlin, once played in juke joints on the plantations. Pre-European Exploration The remnants of Native American civilizations surround Horseshoe Lake. The oldest recorded Indian mounds in the area are believed to be pre-Mississippian, as evidenced from artifacts found dating back to around AD 600. However, many mounds have been completely eroded over the years from farming operations, while others have been looted. Louisiana Purchase through the Gilded Age Mosquito-borne diseases and frequent flooding deterred early colonization of the area. Soon after the War of 1812, the land was surveyed and given to soldiers who fought in the war for payment for their services. Horseshoe Lake is visible as a large oxbow on the survey maps from this time. In 1825, Crittenden County was carved out of Phillips County, and four township divisions were created in the county. One of these was Lucas Township, which encompassed the Horseshoe Lake community. To make this rich bottomland more productive and to help prevent the encroachment of the Mississippi River at flood stage, the Swamp Land Act of 1850 gave patents to levee builder Isaac Burgett, who built a lavish home at what is present-day Seyppel. The Burgett house was said to have been used as a hospital for Union soldiers during the Civil War. The home remained standing until the 1930s. According to historian Margaret Woolfolk, it is believed that the Horseshoe Lake area was the site of a skirmish with Texas Rangers during the Civil War. Early Twentieth Century During the early twentieth century, hunters and lumbermen discovered the lake. It was dammed at Lost Lake Bayou, raising the water level by over six feet. This made it possible to float timber directly from the area to the Mississippi River, where a sawmill was built to process the lumber. Russell Gardner of St. Louis, Missouri—maker of the Banner Buggy and Gardner Automobile—purchased 1,200 acres along the river for his private hunting reserve, and it was named Bruin for the many bears in the area. Five Lakes Outing Club was established by Memphis, Tennessee, residents as a hunting club on the land in the middle of the horseshoe of the lake. They purchased land from Gardner and the Fritz family, among others, and established an immense hunting and fishing reserve for the club’s forty-five members; it is still in operation in the twenty-first century. The Horseshoe Recreation Club was established around the same time and is also still in existence. J. O. E. Beck purchased land on the western side of the lake, stretching to Hughes (St. Francis County). He cleared the land of trees and drained the swampland, putting in over 9,000 feet of drainage tiles some ten feet deep. Bob Snowden purchased 1,000 acres on the northwestern side of the lake and established a commissary known as Baugh Store, which had the first frozen food lockers in the area. Gus Zanone purchased land on the northeastern side of the lake on which to build cabins, and E. H. Clarke Sr. purchase farm land east of the lake. The depth of the lake has been the subject of numerous court cases. The first case was when Five Lakes Outing Club wanted to reclaim land that was flooded after the levee was completed in 1905, increasing the depth of that lake as much as seven feet. The club was allowed to pump water out of the lake and did this for a number of years until the pump broke. The last break in the levee that affected the area was in 1912 and occurred at what is now known as Blue Lake. The floods of 1927 and 1937 also inundated the lake area. Beck and Snowden dug a canal to drain the lake to prevent flooding after the Flood of 1937, but the draining of the lake was opposed, and the lake’s water level remained the same. World War II through the Faubus Era During World War II, the farms in the area were desperate for help, as many of the farmers and field hands were serving in the military. The government assisted by establishing a German prisoner-of-war camp about six miles from Horseshoe Lake, in an area now known as Anthonyville. Roads and bridges were soon built over the Mississippi River, and transportation to the lake moved on wheels instead of water. Many of the river landing post offices moved inland off the levee during this period, with the Seyppel post office being one of the last to close, in 1948. Jack Rich, a developer, created the Horseshoe Lake Estates subdivision in 1965 and sold more than 400 plots of land. All homeowners in the subdivision automatically became members of the Surf Club, which provided the area with water, a club house, a pier, a boat ramp, a canal, a common greenway on the south side of the canal, and a marina to dock boats. The Surf Club is still in existence in the twenty-first century. Modern Era Mechanized farming reduced the need for a large work force to maintain the farms. Tenant houses that once lined the farm roads were torn down, and the population of the area went into a steep decline. The present-day population largely consists of retirees, sportsmen, and a few remaining farmers. The nearest school to the area is in Hughes, about eight miles away. Residents of the Horseshoe Lake Estates subdivision voted to incorporate in 1983, thus creating the town of Horseshoe Lake. The town provided for a fire department, took over the city’s water supply, and installed a sewer treatment system. The W. G. Huxtable Pumping Plant near Marianna (Lee County), completed in 1977, stopped the flooding but also prevented runoff, keeping the lake from replenishing itself. Droughts brought the lake to new lows, and canals dried up, diminishing access to the lake. A vote was taken in 2007, and the Horseshoe District was formed, taxing homeowners around the lake in order to fund the installation of ten pumps to maintain the water level. The drainage canal once built by Beck and Snowden was cleared of brush and widened, and a gate was installed across the bayou to keep the water level constant and prevent flooding. Only one grocery, Bonds Store, remains in the Horseshoe area, serving as a hub of local activity. Summer brings an influx of people from Memphis to the lake. The owners of the property surrounding the lake have sold many lots for summer and retirement homes, renovating or replacing the cabins and tenant houses that once stood there. Horseshoe Lake has an art gallery, Plantation Gallery, to showcase the works of artists throughout the Delta. Several celebrities were raised in the area, including actor Michael Beck, best known for his role in the 1979 film The Warriors; Memphis musician Lee Baker, guitarist for the bands Electric Blue Watermelon and Mudboy and the Neutrons; and Baker’s son, actor Robert Baker, who has appeared in numerous television shows. • Over. All great stay. Exactly what I wanted. Safe off the beaten path. Clean and quite. Bar and grill was a little hard to find at 8:00 in the evening. However it is a hidden gem. The food was great

  • Lisa was a wonderful host and was very prompt to respond to messages with questions. The place was cozy and very welcoming. It was exactly as described and a great experience while visiting to train Police K9 teams. There are many dogs throughout the neighborhood and mine felt right at home

  • Great spot to get away and live the lake life

  • This home was awesome. It was very cute and spacious! Lisa’s description was very detailed which I appreciated. The location was awesome, off the grid. We stayed because we went to a concert in Memphis. It was super easy to get there and back. The price was unreal. We will definitely come back. On top of it all I was able to bring my dog. Thanks, Lisa!

  • The cabin was ‘our space’ we had no problems finding the place, getting in and overall. I enjoyed the games, Roku, and coffee maker. The time was spent mostly out in Tennessee, but when we were at the cabin we relaxed. You’ll find like the reviews mentioned and Lisa too, it’s being fixed up so it’s in the process! Nothing was in our way, the set up was awesome. Our first Airbnb experience I can’t wait to do it again!

  • It was such a great home away from home! Lisa was such a great host and went above and beyond to make sure our stay there was wonderful! I will definitely be booking with her again and sending out recommendations.

To be clear, the house does not sit on the lake, but down the road a half mile. Also, there is no beach or walk in access to the lake. There is a private fishing pier and boat slips at the surf club, as well as an ARGF public boat ramp on the other side of the lake. • Great place for a family get together. Lots of space. Very cooking friendly. Pool table, Darts, Ping Pong and board games kept us busy. Enjoyed our stay!

  • Andreas place is clean and beautiful! She was very quick to respond to us when the internet was out, and fixed it quickly.

  • A very clean and perfect place to getaway to. Sit on the sofa and watch the sunset or walk out on a public dock and enjoy the lake. A perfect place to relax and enjoy.

  • Cool little spot by the water. Because of the location and closeness to the water, there is a lot of bug life but overall awesome spot. Had fun playing pool, plenty of thoughtful amenities. Explored the surrounding area and hung out with some locals which was an awesome experience.

    Chelsea2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice lake house

    James2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The house is in a lake community. It is right in front of the boat launch so if you are going on the lake it is very convenient. Andrea is very responsive to communication. The house gave 4 of us plenty of room to spread out and relax. Community is quiet and relaxed. Wonderful stay. Highly recommended !!!

    Joel2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay here was fantastic! Not only were the lake sunsets as beautiful as advertised, but we were also able to cook a full meal in the fully-stocked kitchen that had everything you could possibly need (including a zester!). The host was responsive and helpful, and the space was beautifully decorated. There were only two of us this time, but I can easily see how 8 people could fit very comfortably. Definitely coming back if I end up in the area again!

It is a private lake so no license is required for fishing off the dock, and we have fishing poles you can borrow! It was designed with a 450 sq ft studio on the east side of the building facing the driveway, and there is a smaller area on the west side of the building facing the lake that is storage (where the hot water heater, furnace, fishing equipment, and etc is stored). ***There is not a window in the guest house that provides a lake view except a small window by the bed with a partial view of the lake*** We've added some seating on the covered deck outside the storage for more privacy if you want to relax and enjoy the lake. We also have a hammock for you to enjoy near the lake. And off the back of the main house is the covered cement patio with the gas grill, smoker, seating, & etc that you are more than welcome to enjoy as well. Entry to the yard or patio is through the small gate near the patio or through the large gate on the south side of the guest house. ***There is not direct entry to the lake front from the guest house; entry is through the gates only*** I will be as involved or as invisible as you'd like during your stay. What you can expect: A family atmosphere - We have an old dog (Joe) who is a border collie mix that ventures outside occasionally, and a young cat (Robert) that only goes outside through a window to his catio attached to the main house. Myself (Marcie), my husband (Mike), and our daughter (Savannah) live in the main house. Cleanliness - The guesthouse is cleaned thoroughly, and bedding washed after each guest and we have Terminix services Respect - 'Nuff' said. Attention - I work your standard 8-5 Mon-Fri, but I will be available via phone/email if you need to contact me, and Mike is at home most of the day as well. You won't be ignored; unless you request it. :o) Information - Just let me know what it is, and I'll do my best to help you get anything you need during your stay: recommendations, food items, transportation, etc. Everything from helping you plan your day in Memphis - to relaxing by the lake. Airplanes - We are located very close to the airport. We have grown accustom to FedEx flying their planes at 3am every night, but many of you may find it a bit loud. Suggestions would be: bring ear plugs (we try to keep some stocked in the bathroom drawer), leave the TV on, bring your sound machine (there's a small one in the night stand), or stay out way too late & make yourself so tired you don't hear a thing ;-) Sunsets - you can expect some spectacular ones.
I love the peace & quiet of the neighborhood, and still be so close to everything at the same time. I can walk the dog to the city park a block away, have a round a golf at the public golf course 1 mile away, go shopping at the mall in a 10min car ride, go listen to blues on Beale Street in 20min, or play the slots in Tunica only 40min away.

  • Darren is an outstanding super host. The check in was flawless and the room was squeaky clean. Darren was very gracious in showing where things were that we might need. Will definitely stay here again

  • We were heading further south for a few weeks and needed a stopover to break up our travels. Our dog was traveling with us, so having a dog friendly location was important as well. Darren was an outstanding host; made us great coffee, breakfast, and we sat and shared all kinds of stories...well past our check-out time, we were having so much fun. The fenced back yard was great for the dog, and it was a nice neighborhood to take her for walks as well. The bed was super comfy and we loved the music themed decor. Thanks Darren, you really went above and beyond and we had a great time at your place!

It is close to a lot of different restaurants and stores. He was very quick to respond to all our messages. He was very kind and hospitable. We would definitely consider staying again.

Enjoy our newly remodeled 2000 sq ft lakehouse in a private peaceful community with panoramic views of the lake. We are 15 minutes from Tunica Expo, 5 minutes to Tunica National Golf Course, 10 Minutes to the casinos; 38 minutes to Beale St, Bass Pro Shop, Peabody Hotel, Graceland and The Lorraine Hotel; and 15 minutes to the wonderful town of Hernando that has unique shops and wonderful restaurants and a whole lot of Southern Charm! We are also members of B & B Association of Mississippi.
This newly remodeled house is designed to enjoy views of the lake all day long. The kitchen, great room, and downstairs sitting area all overlook the lake. There are also two balconies, a patio, deck, and dock to enjoy the outdoor space from every angle. We also provide a self service continental breakfast: Coffee, Juices and pre packaged pastries. Anything more substantial you will have to bring yourself. We do provide all the cookware, tableware and spices. And just in case you don't hit the grocery store your first night and don't feel like going out there is some spaghetti and meat sauce in the cabinet for your convenience. Must be at least 21 to rent
This lake is home to a few households. Enjoy fishing for crappie, bream, bass, and catfish or watching many bird species including blue herons and a pair of bald eagles. We do ask that if you are fishing, you are respectful to the community and only fish for what you intend to eat. Since this is a private lake, you do not need to have fishing license to fish here. The nearest bate shop is 6 minutes away called Outfitters.

Deer Run is close to Memphis,TN, I-55, restaurants and dining, great views. The spacious, 750+ sq ft cottage on 10 acres is good for retirees, couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers alike. We look forward to sharing our property in this semi-secluded setting. Come relax in the comfy 12 inch deep foam mattress with super soft sheets. Enjoy the splendor of the woods, wildlife and gardens. We are far enough off the road that you will not see the street. Wheelchair accessible.
The cottage is full of light. You almost feel like you are in a treehouse when you look out the many windows. The cottage is approximately 750+ sq ft. The full kitchen is ready to go with an assortment of tools at your disposal. We can also provide a twin size air mattress.
The homes at Deer Run are semi-secluded on 10 wooded acres. There are deer, birds and other wildlife that come to visit. We do have neighbors on either side of us, one is visible from the cottage, but so is their serene pond. You will feel like you are in the country, but you are still close to civilization.
  • Deer Run was such a delight! We stayed the month of December, and really enjoyed our Christmas in the cottage. You will be surrounded by the beauty of nature. Watching the deer play was amazing. You will find everything you will need during your stay. Ruth is an excellent hostess!

We are in an older, established neighborhood just a 5min drive from Downtown. This listing is intended for individuals or pairs. This room is shared and has three twin beds. You will also be sharing the rest of our home (bathroom, kitchen, and common areas) with us & other Airbnb guests. This is not a vacation rental, it is simply an extra bed in our home. Be sure to read through all the details of our listing to ensure our home will be a good fit for you and your travel companion(s).
Our home is very spacious so we decided to rent out our extra rooms to travelers that need a clean and comfortable place to rest. We are not equipped to offer long term or transitional housing. The living room and wifi lounge has comfortable seating for resting or reading. We try to keep a few snacks and beverages in the kitchen - which is also open for our guests to use. We have a few pots, pans, and utensils if you desire to cook. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy the backyard patio or a more scenic seat on the front porch (it's a southern tradition!).
I grew up in this neighborhood and my daughter has been here for a few years too. Most of my elderly neighbors have also been here for many years and are very friendly. There is a shopping center about a mile away with 2 grocery stores, a few dry goods stores, and five fast food restaurants. There are also two family owned Southern style soul food restaurants with delicious home cooked meals nearby :)

We completely remodeled this home, and it is fully furnished. The kitchen is fully stocked. The dining room contains a bonus sitting area. Each bedroom has a television with DirecTV, and we provide wifi also. The fenced-in backyard has a large deck that provides space for relaxing, grilling, and entertaining. The neighborhood is conveniently close to Memphis and the amenities of Southaven, such as the Tanger Outlet Mall, Snowden Grove amphitheater, and the Greenbrook Softball fields.
We love this home because it is nestled in a quiet cove. When we furnished the home, we wanted guests to have many places to sit and relax, and we tried to make our home as comfortable as possible.
The house is 15 minutes from Graceland and about 20 minutes from downtown Memphis. It is about 10 minutes from the Tanger Outlet Mall and other shopping centers and restaurants.
  • What a cozy space for my familly to gather over Christmas. There was sofa and table seating for everyone, as well as space to step away from family with three bedrooms each with a tv. There was one moment the day after Christmas when every tv was going cause we all needed a moment apart. That's family, right! But, what was great was that the house gave us space enough to be together and apart very well. And, it was so clean and in a quiet neighborhood. I would certainly stay here again!

**The pool will not be open due to the Pandemic** The price reflects this change. Cozy Ranch style home in Elvis’ neighborhood located in between the home Vernon Presley lived in and the home Elvis bought for Linda Thompson. Open concept makes this home great for families. Blocks from Graceland, close to the Airport, STAX, AL Greens church, 10-15 minutes to downtown. Early check-in is sometimes available for a fee. There is no street parking. Pets are allowed. $25 per pet, per visit.
**The Pool will not be open due to the Pandemic** I will open it as early as possible for guests enjoyment. You will have to skim the pool daily if you want to swim. There is no on-site pool person on duty. The yard is surrounded by very large trees so leaves and little bugs and the occasional frog may have to be saved from the pool. This is not like a pool in a concrete jungle. It is a pool in the countryside. If you stay for more than 3 nights we will come by and check on the pool. If it storming we will also come check on the pool the next day. This open concept home is great for a getaway with friends and family. There is a patio and a small cocktail saltwater pool on 1/2 acre. The quiet street makes it feel as though you are out in the country. The yard is fenced. There are 2 queen beds and 2 twin beds. There is also a Full sized Sofa Bed. I provide a drip coffee maker and a french press as well as coffee. You are literally around the corner from Graceland. NO PARTIES ALLOWED!! THE NEIGHBORS WILL CALL ME AND THEY WILL CALL THE POLICE ON YOU. Quiet family type get togethers are allowed but no more than 15 people are allowed a the property at any time. If you do not tell me about your get together and I hear about it from my neighbors you will be charged an extra $300 fee for violating the rules. They will call me no matter what time it is. They have jobs and do not appreciate being kept up. CURFEW FOR LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE IS 10 PM EVERY NIGHT. PETS are welcome but are not allowed in the bedrooms or on the furniture. You are welcome to let them play in the back yard while supervised. When you leave the house I require them to be crated UNLESS THEY ARE 100% HOUSETRAINED. ALL DOGS UNDER 2YO MUST BE CRATED WHEN YOU ARE NOT AT THE HOUSE. If they are well behaved they may roam the house but you MUST close the bedroom and bathroom doors. You are responsible for any damage caused by pets. You must also pick up all pet waste in the back yard. An extra $50 cleaning fee will be assessed if you do not clean up after your pet.
Close to Graceland and the airport. Perfect location for visiting everything Memphis has to offer. Very quiet winding street. The neighborhood has a country feel. You will hear lots of birds including owls. No loud noise after 10PM!!

It was perfect t for my husband and I and our adult children. It would also be perfect for smaller children. It is very pet friendly with a large backyard and a large laundry room for kennels. The back deck is perfect for morning coffee and relaxing in the evening. The house is very clean and has all the touches for a home away from home. Julia was outstanding in answering any questions we had, with a very quick response. We felt safe and secure at the house. I plan to stay there again in the spring.

  • The room is as you see in the photos, very clean and very comfortable, the shared areas are also very clean and beautiful, and these have instructions to keep everything neat and clean for the comfort of all guests. Kimberly is super friendly and warm, she solved my doubts about my stay in Memphis. The neighborhood is very quiet during the day and night, however, I consider that the best option to go to the tourist attractions if you do not bring a car, is to travel in Uber / Lift, and public transport, but It passes each certain time.

    Erendira2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house is impeccable, it is something old but very clean, very quiet area although there are some noises by the trains that there are in that area, you have to take the car to go to the center or shopping, since it is something away from everything. Kimberly and her daughter are lovely and are willing to help in everything necessary. I would stay with them again with happiness.

    Maria2019-04-22T00:00:00Z

Bathroom was clean and equipped with everything necessary. I had possibility to have free breakfast every morning, plus the and coffee all day long. The house is in a quiet and safe position, a bit far from the centre (45 minutes walking), but well connected with publicl transports. I reccomend it!
