Located on the easternmost edge of West Virginia, Harpers Ferry sits at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers, just across the water from Virginia and Maryland. The town is surrounded by the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, with walking trails and Civil War-era battlefield sites. The John Brown Wax Museum, Industry Museum, and Meriwether Lewis Exhibit are also right in town, giving you a window into local history, such as the way 19th-century weapons factories played a role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition and Harpers Ferry Raid.

Although the primary draw to Harpers Ferry continues to be its historical significance, today the town is known for its surrounding natural beauty and rolling hills full of chestnut oak and bitternut hickory forests. The famous 2,000-mile Appalachian Trail, which stretches from Maine to Georgia, cuts through the town center, and many hikers like to rest in Harpers Ferry for a spell to recover.
