Join me, Abbey, as we go to one of my FAVORITE parks in Colorado Springs, Ute Valley Park! Here we will go on an adventurous, easy-going hike, and stop along the way to take unique and memorable professional photos in the beautiful scenery all around us! • Mountain Brunch with the Birds
With warm weather, you'll sit in a patio-style seating arrangement facing the West slope of Pikes Peak where you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and the wildlife. I'll bring out birdseed and call out to let the birds know it's breakfast time. We'll provide you with all the birdseed you need to keep our feathered friends interested. I'll be available to help identify the various species of birds as they come in and provide a myriad of interesting facts about the different breeds. In cold weather, we'll start by trying to bring the Pygmy Nuthatches and Mountain Chickadees in to eat from your hand! Naturally, I can't guarantee our feathered friends will be that brave, but it happens often! Then, come inside to warm up and you can sit at our picture window and watch the birds come right up to the deck. Although our birds change with the seasons, we always have Stellar Jays, Pinyon Jays, and big, noisy Nutcrackers, as well as several varieties of Nuthatches and Woodpeckers, and a variety of small finches. In the meantime, we'll serve coffee, hot cocoa, or tea and warm, homemade cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven. Enjoy the mountain air and marvel in the beauty of nature for as long as you'd like on our mountain property. Other things to note Children typically don't have the patience for bird-watching. No pets. In the event of bad weather, I will cancel this event and refund you

  • Easy Classic Garden of the Gods Hike
We will meet at the Garden of the Gods entrance sign and take you on an iconic yet easy hike in the central park. First, we will take your photo with the entire park backdrop--a classic park picture! Then we will guide you on the easy and convenient trails through beautiful Garden of the Gods. You will get to enjoy the most stunning views and amazing red rock formations. You might see wildlife such as deer and hawks…and rock climbers. We will share the history and fascinating geology of the Garden along with fun facts about amazing local plants and the Native Americans that still consider this sacred land. Hike For Life picked out the most incredible central trails for this introduction to Garden of the Gods. These relatively easy trails are perfect for any ability level and you can plan on hiking approximately 2-3 miles. If you prefer a longer hike (4-6 miles) check out our Garden of the Gods Immersion Hike. During your hike we'll also provide you with tips on other destinations in town and useful information for your future hiking adventures. Other things to note: Dogs are welcome but must be leashed. We often have very mild days even in winter. Summer days can be very hot, but rain, hail or snow is possible at any time of year. Your guide to Colorado Springs

All About Colorado Springs

Set in the high desert at the eastern edges of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado Springs has welcomed a steady stream of visitors since the railroad arrived in the 1870s. Once you see the big skies and the rugged landscapes, you’ll understand the allure. In fact, the sight of Pikes Peak — towering more than 14,000 feet on the horizon — is so impressive, it inspired the patriotic anthem “America the Beautiful.” Today, Colorado Springs is the second-largest city in the state and one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, though neighborhoods like Old Colorado City retain the quiet vibes of a frontier town. As the headquarters and training center for the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, the locals are quite an athletic bunch, too. You’ll want to pack a sturdy pair of boots to explore the many trails, forests, and natural areas throughout the region.

How do I get around Colorado Springs?

Domestic airlines serve the local Colorado Springs Airport (COS), which has direct connections to several U.S. cities. More travelers fly into Denver International Airport (DEN), about 80 miles north. It takes a little more than an hour to drive from Denver to Colorado Springs, a straight shot on Interstate 25. You can book a ride with Colorado Department of Transportation’s Bustang, a network of buses connecting Colorado Springs to major towns and cities throughout the state. Rideshare services can whisk you around the town’s many breweries. To easily access the great outdoors, you’ll want a car.

When is the best time to stay in a vacation rental in Colorado Springs?

The sun shines for 300 days a year in Colorado Springs, making it a four-season destination for outdoor recreation. The warm summer weather, with average highs in the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit, draws the most visitors. If you visit from June to August, come prepared with rain ponchos for the occasional thunderstorms, which usually don’t last too long. Late spring and early fall are pleasant times to visit, when you can look forward to fewer crowds and cooler temperatures, typically in the 50s and 60s. Unlike other popular destinations in the state, Colorado Springs doesn’t get too much snow in the winter months, when the still-chilly temperatures range in the upper 30s and low 40s.

What are the top things to do in Colorado Springs?

Pikes Peak

Positioned in the Pike National Forest, iconic Pikes Peak is one of the state’s famous “fourteeners,” meaning mountains rising more than 14,000 feet above sea level. You could hike the arduous Barr Trail to the top, though driving the Pikes Peak Highway gives you the same views without all the sweat.

Garden of the Gods

A designated National Natural Landmark, the Garden of the Gods ranks among the most unusual city parks in the country. Its red-rock landscape is dotted with narrow sandstone pillars and cathedral-like rock spires. The picturesque formations and more than 21 miles of trails make it the most popular hiking spot in Colorado Springs. Come here for scenic walks, mountain biking, climbing, and horseback riding.

Manitou Springs

The town of Manitou Springs has long drawn visitors for its natural mineral springs, which still bubble today. This old hippie enclave has plenty of galleries and more quirky storefronts to browse in its historic district.
