Eastside Upstairs Duplex with Retro Modern Style

Our duplex is in an architecturally unique section of the Cherrywood neighborhood in East Austin. Sometimes called "Duplex Nation", the development was constructed in 1948 by a developer named Bascom Giles, who built the neighborhood to serve moderate income families following WWII. There are a few floor plans, but all are built out of cinder block bricks covered in stucco and have a distinct style compared to the surrounding neighborhoods. Duplex Nation is a good mix of renters and live-in owners, with a quirky style that enabled the development to be added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Delwood Duplex Historic District in 2011. We have fully renovated the inside of both the upstairs and downstairs apartments. Refinished hardwood floors, refinished yellow pine doors and updated paint in all rooms. The gourmet kitchen is brand new, including cabinets, countertops, stainless steel appliances and a dish washer. In addition, we have removed some of the interior walls to allow for an open concept kitchen, dining and living area. We updated the bathroom, and to save space, we have done away with the bathtub, but we have a very luxurious new shower that should not disappoint. We have a tankless, on-demand water heater, so no worries about running out of hot water. The space has central air and heat. We provide access to a washing machine and dryer for our guests (but please use the soap provided, as it is a high efficiency washer). We have a couple of spaces for off street parking, up the alley in the back of our place (though word of warning - the city does not maintain the alley, so there are a few potholes - take it slow going back there). You can also park on the street out front. Our place is an upstairs/downstairs duplex. Unit A is a self-contained apartment downstairs, and Unit B is a self-contained apartment upstairs. We do rent out both units as vacation rentals, so there may be other guests when you are there. We will let you know if there will be guests in the other unit when you are staying there. We live in another duplex in Duplex Nation, so we are generally around and will be happy to suggest local restaurants and activities to those not familiar with Austin. You will have a full kitchen, but we will stock the fridge with a few necessities to get you started when you arrive (some milk butter, etc.). David speaks a little Spanish and P.Y. is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and certain Chinese dialects. Anything we can do to assist in your stay, we will do. Locals refer to this pocket of Cherrywood as Duplex Nation. It's a good mix of renters and live-in owners, with a quirky style. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the "Delwood Duplex Historic District" in 2011. We are very close to the UT campus and to downtown Austin, all a short drive from the apartment. We are also close to a number of cafes and restaurants down on Manor Road (pronounced MAYner by the locals), walking distance (about a mile). If you don't feel like driving, there are a number of regular public buses that run over to campus, downtown, and through the bohemian streets of East Austin. When we are able, we would be happy to pick up our guests from Austin Bergstrom International Airport. Each room has a queen size bed and sleeps two. The couch in the living room is a great modern design that folds out into a bed with a full queen size mattress (NOT the thin, uncomfortable kind!!!). Bedding for the couch will be provided. As such, we can accommodate up to six people in the flat, but we charge a $25 surcharge, per night, for each person over four. Oh, and if you like the pictures of our place here on Airbnb, note that we used Alecia Cooper with Dearcharli Photography. She's even better with portraits, and anyone in town who is looking for a photographer should give her a call!

Cozy Modern Cottage with Quiet Back Yard

This one bedroom home is very cozy but with plenty of room to stretch out and truly relax. Guests will have access to the entire house Carole and Kerry live nearby and will be at your service should you need anything. Plum Cottage is in the Zilker Park neighborhood. Go for a run on the nearby trails or take a dip in the cool waters of world famous Barton Springs. The cottage is close to great tacos and a true honky-tonk for dancing. If you do not have a car we recommend using Urber to get around. There is also a bus stop only one block away with an express route to downtown. There are several resturaunts, coffee shops and a Walgreens within a few minutes walk.
