Places to stay in Virginia
Experience glamping, Blue Ridge style. Our luxury yurt is located at the top of a small hill, in the center of a 70 acre farmstead surrounded by natural beauty. The property is located off a quiet country road in Afton, Nelson County. It is private, but not remote. You are close to the Brew Ridge trail, wineries, breweries, skiing at Wintergreen, Blue Mountain Brewery, Devil's Backbone, golf, hiking, or driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hike or bike directly from the Yurt up into the mountains!
PLEASE NOTE: There is a 3 night minimum for long weekends. Please leave those weekends available for the folks who want to come for 3 nights. Thanks! Glamping at it finest. Enjoy a relaxing stay in our Yurt in the heart of the Blue Ridge and feel the stress of daily life slip away. The Yurt is 30 feet in diameter with 10 foot walls. It's a total of 720 square feet with a cozy bedroom and a sleeping loft. It has heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, a bathroom with a claw foot tub with shower, fresh linens and towels, and an open living/dining area with a wood stove. It boosts a large 400 square foot deck with lovely views of the pond and the Blue Ridge mountains. Take advantage of all that the surrounding area has to offer including hiking, skiing, antiques, farmer's market, restaurants, live music, and all the wineries, breweries, and cideries along the Brew Ridge Trail. Or just hang out at the fully equipped Yurt. Kick back with a glass of wine from one of the local wineries and watch the sunset, dine al fresco on the large deck, enjoy the stars from the hot tub tucked in a secluded grove of trees nearby, cozy up to a fire in the wood stove, enjoy a fire or roast marshmallows on the outdoor fire pit, watch a movie, listen to records, get up early and watch the sunrise over the mountains, hike directly from the Yurt to Humpback Rocks and the Appalachian Trail, or enjoy fishing, paddle boating, and swimming in the spring fed 2 acre pond.
The yurt is located on the same property as our farmhouse (about 300 yards away) on a quiet country road with less than 10 houses. The yurt is surrounded by open pasture and a few trees. You can see the Farmhouse from the Yurt but it's a good distance away. The trees provide privacy. You are about 2 miles from the Flying Fox Winery. It's a nice walk to a sweet little tasting room that has lovely views. Their rose is a personal favorite. Paulie's Pig Out about 2 miles away on 151. Yummy barbeque with tasty sides, especially the mac and cheese. Traeger Brother's Coffee located in the Rockfish Valley Community Center on 151. Local roasters based in Lovingston, VA. Fair trade organic coffee. Check out the Treasure Chest thrift store while you're there! Claudia's Catering also located in the community center. Homemade tasty baked goodies. Breakfast and lunch served daily Wednesday thru Friday. Blue Mountain Brewery, about 6 miles away. Beautiful mountain views and yummy pizza. Nellysford Farmer's Market. 6 miles away. Saturday mornings 9am-12 noon. May through October. 3 miles away on 151 near Nellysford. Awesome market with a lovely selection of local food. Live music. Wintergreen Resort. 17 miles away. Live music in the summer, lots of activities year round, skiing in the winter. Tuckahoe Antiques, located on 151 just before Nellysford. Nice selection of antiques and collectibles. Bold Rock Cidery, 7 miles away. A lovely setting to enjoy a glass of award winning cider. Or take it to go and enjoy it on the deck of the Yurt. Blue Toad Cidery is a few more miles up the road. Veritas Winery, my favorite winery in the area. Starry Nights live music and farm to table dinners in the summer. Trail Rides at Rebel's Run, Afton Mountain Road. Our daughter takes horseback riding lessons here. Mimi, the owner is awesome and her horses are beautiful and well tempered. Devil's Backbone Brewery and Restaurant is 7 miles away in Nellysford. Great apres-ski on Friday and Saturday evening in the ski season and beautiful grounds and outdoor seating. Cardinal Point winery is about 10 minutes away and has a nice tasting room and outdoor patio. Hiking along the Blue Ridge Parkway is about 30 minutes away. There are some fantastic views and sunset spots that are only 2 miles from the trail head. In summer, hike to the slippery rocks in Stony Creek - only a 15 minute drive and 20 minute walk. Slip and slide on the natural water slide and splash into the tub. During the music festival season LOCK'N and the Festy are 30 minutes away in Arrington. We can arrange for a private yoga lesson or massages at the Yurt if you're interested. And so much more! We're working on a detailed book of what to do and see in the area that we'll leave in the yurt. In the meantime, we're happy to offer suggestions on what to do and see in the area.
  • This Yurt was so much better then I ever expected! Not only did Chantal allow us to check in a bit early - she left a birthday gift & even champagne! The amenities where amazing, everything we could possibly need was already there. The view was stunning - it was peaceful and quiet. The stars where simply indescribable. The outdoor furniture, the fire pit, the pond and trails where everything we wanted. My husband and I are going to return and bring our kids, because I feel like we owe it to them to enjoy the beauty and peace as we did!

  • Perfect place for a mountain getaway! Loved the Yurt and all of the thoughtful host touches throughout our stay. We’ll be back!

    Sloan2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Chantal's yurt is amazing! The space is very clean, and she includes some thoughtful touches. We made use of the pond, hot tub, fire pit and local hiking trails to the humpback rocks. The yurt is perfect if you want to get away and relax for a few days. Chantal was very hospitable, and included great information in her guidebooks. I highly recommend this place!

    Ryan2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a relaxing time at this beautiful property - from the sunrises over the mountains, walks around the pond, and hiking the trails right from the yurt! An extra bonus was being greeted by sweet Opie (neighbor's dog) who was happy to walk with us around the pond :) Chantal is a very thoughtful host and the yurt really is equipped with everything you could need. We highly recommend this yurt getaway!

    Ryan2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic stay. Miles of hiking right from the door, almost entirely on private property. We had a wonderful time.

    Joe2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We would give give 6 stars if we could. We can’t recommend the yurt experience highly enough. Luxe yurt makes it sound like you’re roughing it at least a little bit, but there is every amenity you could want and more. The pictures don’t do justice to view. The pond and mountain views are spectacular. We first hiked the trails on the property and then feeling ambitious, continued all the way to the Appalachian Trail without having to get in the car. We can’t wait to go back!

    Justin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • It's hard to elaborate more on what hasn't already been said about Chantal's yurt. It has everything you need and more - in terms of amenities, views, hospitality, and activities. Already trying to plan when we'll be back!

  • Super clean, amazing host, and amazing spot! Such a great view! Will definitely be going back!

Elevated 900 sq ft space with vaulted ceiling and 500 sq ft of wrap-around deck in the treetops. 3 bedrooms (2 Queens + full-size futon which is 6" narrower than a Queen and therefore definitely a bit tight for 2 adults) and 2 full bathrooms. Adjacent to National Forest land and just 40 miles from the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah Nat'l Park and Skyline Drive. Our home is within the Bryce Resort - offering (in season) golf, mountain biking, zipline, and lake with beach, kayaks/canoes
This is the “treehouse” of my childhood dreams, and I know you’ll enjoy it too. As you can see in our photos, the Treehouse has a wrap around deck which is 500 sq ft and offers peace and quiet. We have lots of tables and chairs on the deck for bird/critter watching, eating, playing cards, etc. There is outdoor lighting on the deck. Please note: Because the house sits at tree top level, we advise against young children as guests. The main room has a vaulted ceiling and a wall of windows making it feel like you are living in the treetops. The windows look out onto the deck and into the trees making the home feel like more than just 900 sqft. We have three separate bedrooms and two baths. Two of the bedrooms have a queen bed. The third bedroom has a new full-size futon; this room has a TV and DVD player (no cable or satellite). The master bedroom has an attached bath. All of your linens and towels are provided. There is a washer/dryer and a dishwasher. Due to the extremely hilly terrain, cell phone service is sketchy. We can typically (but not always) get signal from Verizon to allow voice calls, but other cell data connectivity is spotty at best. The home does not have cable/wifi, but the Resort Clubhouse does. The kitchen has plenty of dishes, pots and pans. We have a coffee maker, a George Foreman Grill, and a pancake griddle. The fridge, oven, and microwave are in very good shape. We have 2 driveways, one on each side of the house. Both are steep and narrow and require that you turn around at the top. Please do NOT attempt to back down. The first 40' of the steepest (and most convenient) drive is paved so it's entirely manageable with most any vehicle. If you utilize the other (totally unpaved) driveway, you need to drive up in a SLOW and STEADY manner to prevent spin-outs and tearing up the driveway. It is not feasible to accommodate a large RV, towable trailer, boat, or such at the treehouse. Parking more than 1 vehicle per driveway is nearly certain to require some vehicle jockeying. If you would like to book the Treehouse, we ask that you tell us a little about yourself either by completing the Profile section of your Airbnb account or within your Inquiry to book. We've been on Airbnb since 2014. We hope you'll read our profile. Please note a few house rules: - There is no grill and no grilling is allowed on the deck. - No smoking on the property. - The small loft is solely for storage and is not for guest use. - The fireplace is not for guest use. It is not in working condition. - No pets please.
Our home is located within the Bryce Resort community. The resort is NOT a gated community and is very much on the low-key end of the spectrum (as we prefer), so - while not "fancy" - it is very quiet and yet still has a very nice variety of activities. Visit the Bryce Resort website for information on golf, mountain biking, a zipline and more. There are specific days/hours of operation and reservations may be required for these activities; please check the Bryce website to see fees and schedule. Lake Laura has a 3 mile walking trail that is open to the public year-round for free (can also serve as an easy-to-moderate mountain bike trail). For a small fee during the summer, Lake Laura offers beach access and kayak/canoe/paddle boat rental (check Bryce Resort website for summer schedule). The "town" of Basye is really just the resort. There is a clubhouse restaurant/bar. Just outside the resort, there is a brewhouse/restaurant, ice cream stand, and a very small market and gas station. Mt. Jackson is 11 miles away and offers a full grocery, State liquor store. Woodstock is a 30-minute drive and has most everything including a Lowe's, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, etc. Zoom out on the map in the listing to see some suggested points of interest. The resort is very hilly. We enjoy long walks for great exercise. I enjoy biking within the resort, but it is very strenuous due to the hills.
  • Just a great place overall from the fact that it’s a TREEHOUSE to all the personal touches and information to explore the surrounding areas. Even on the rainy days we had board games and movies to watch. Just a cozy place with everything you need and a great place to come back to after a long day of hiking!

    Kari2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • The stay at the treehouse was incredible! We loved relaxing for our 2 night stay and exploring the town around us. The guest book and the binder put together by Mark was amazing. I also loved that there were basic needs in the house like soap, shampoo, toilet paper, spices, etc. Loved the DVD collection that was available for us to binge watch Simpson’s at night while we relaxed inside since it was colder. The wild life was awesome around the treehouse too. The first driveway was paved halfway up and my 2019 Toyota Corolla was able to make it up with ease. We didn’t attempt the back driveway because the top was significantly more convenient for us with no steps. Mark was very communicative about the stay also. We already have our next trip booked! PS. Don’t hike Orkney spring trail off alum spring rd. We couldn’t pass through the main road to Marks recommended spot because of a downed tree and found this trail. It was a 35% grade and was super hard despite what all trails said. I’m still sore today. Lol! If you do decide to, only go to the view point. The super steep treck to the top brings you to the peek in the middle of the woods with no view. Wasn’t worth it.

    Amber2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Mark and Linda are great hosts! I had a great time at their tranquil treehouse. It is everything it is described as and more. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Mackenzie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a special and beautiful place this is, and at such a reasonable price! The location is gorgeous and the treehouse is both a great place to hang out and a wonderful base from which to explore the area. This is our second time---we'll be back! And Mark makes the process very easy and smooth.

    Katherine2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This place is truly amazing...loved everything about it. It felt very homey, cozy, and was sparkling clean. I was so happy that the heating worked because it got a bit chilly at night. I can't wait to come back and see what it looks like during winter and spring! Highly recommend!

  • The place is beautiful and very peaceful.

    Anthony2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful setting in the trees. The cabin is interesting in design and has everything you could need. Lots of space for a small setting. WiFi would be nice since there is limited cell coverage.

Come unwind in our exclusive tree house getaway, nestled amongst pine trees. Take a short walk to enjoy the river.
This 400 sq. ft. treehouse includes a walnut spiral staircase, salvaged barn beams, a marble tile shower, and a gas fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with a two-person bar, gas stove + oven, hammered copper sink, refrigerator, microwave, kettle + french press, and basic utensils. The loft bedroom includes a queen bed with elegant bedding, skylight views, and a hanging chair for reading. The bathroom includes a marble tile shower with hot water, a hammered copper sink, and fresh white towels. Enjoy lovely views from the porch with the sight of the river. Unwind with a hot bath in a two-person tub on the deck. Be aware the treehouse is in the trees so bugs will be present especially in the evening. We have complimentary natural bug spray and candles. It's best to leave the lights off on the porch at night so bugs won't join your porch party. The treehouse is located on our 5-acre property. It is NOT deep in secluded woodland. It is 70 ft. from the road and 200 ft. away from our home. It is 16 ft. off the ground so height is in your favor for seclusion. There are appropriate window treatments on all windows. You may be visited by our dogs or cat. Our two Jack Russell's, Daisy and Cooter, love to say hello to anyone who comes on the property. The gate at the top of the stairs is to keep our furry friends away. We prefer if you keep them off the deck so they won’t beg to be let in. However, Mable, the cat, is capable of climbing the gate. Let us know if we need to come to retrieve her. This treehouse was relocated due to waterway regulations. It is now farther from the river but on the same property. You will still have river views and river access.
  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time here! The treehouse is absolutely beautiful inside and out, as well as the river across the way. Joshua was kind enough to make a campfire down by the river, which was wonderful. There was more than adequate cooking supplies for my partner and I to cook a delicious meal, and the space was a blast to relax in. The outdoor bath was super nice and peaceful. All in all the treehouse is an amazing place to stay and I strongly recommend staying here!

    Will2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, beautifully crafted! A wonderful spot for a weekend getaway.

    Anna2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Joshua and Hope’s treehouse was more than amazing! The views were beautiful, the location was relaxing, and the memories we made will last a life time! Everything was absolutely perfect.

    Katie2019-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • As avid treehouse travelers, we feel we've found the best one yet! The space is inviting and thoughtful - every detail considered. The sounds of the river provide a peaceful setting, along with the visits from all types of birds. This place is a little slice of heaven on earth!

    Andrew2019-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had read several reviews before booking this treasure but now I have experienced it, no words can describe how special the Joshua tree house really is. The hosts were responsive, friendly and made this visit easy. The Joshua tree house is made with LOVE. Every little detail was well thought out. The only time my wife and I left was when we had to eat dinner, and it was hard to leave the property. It was the most relaxing weekend I have ever had. Joshua and Hope give you everything you need, and more. Leaving was so hard. We both cried knowing how special the weekend was staying at such a special place. The weather was rainy, but being inside, birdwatching from the deck, listening to the river didn’t stop us from enjoying this weekend. Thank you for sharing this with people Joshua and Hope. This is truly a treasure, gem and diamond in a rough. We will be coming back to stay here 1-2 times a year, hands down. I wouldn’t change one thing about the hosts and the property. It was just perfect. I would recommend it to everyone

    Jaimie2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • We thought we would really like this place, but didn’t realize how much we’d really LOVE it until we stayed for a night. We were just so amazed at the high level of craftsmanship in every detail of the treehouse. The decor and small touches were lovely and thoughtful, and the setting was so peaceful by the river. Sitting on the porch drinking French press coffee was all the *entertainment* we needed, but there’s reliable WiFi, too. Super easy process and communication from booking to check in/check out. You will not regret your stay here!

    Marcia2019-05-03T00:00:00Z
  • I have been telling everyone to stay here. Beautiful place

  • Great place to stay at! Enjoyed the beautiful outdoors hiking and was extremely thankful for the jacuzzi! Beautiful cabin that we hope to rent again. Highly recommend.

    Renee2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • House appears to be very new and everything is in excellent shape. It was very clean. Appreciated the grill and accessories even though the rain ruined our plans to use it. Hot tub is great and there's evidence to prove it is taken care of regularly by a professional. We thought it would be more private - pictures don't show there's a house on each side and one in back (but neighbors keep to themselves). Note, the walk to the river is more of a hike. Communication from owner was very helpful. We had a great stay, thank you.

    Jessica2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway from the city - highly recommend! The cabin itself was absolutely beautiful and had all the amenities you would need and more. Everything from the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms were well stocked and felt very homey. Culin was a great host and provided us with all the information needed for check-in, check-out, and local hot spots!

    Ashley2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I loved our 2 night stay at Blue Moon Cabin! It was VERY clean and surpassed all of our expectations. Culin was an amazing host, he gave us so many great suggestions for the local attractions as well as very fast response times. It was the perfect private getaway while staying in Luray! Our only disappointment was that many of the local breweries and wineries are only open on weekends during this time of year, so we were unable to visit them during our stay. Fortunately, we picked up some wine from the local Walmart and had a great time enjoying the large front porch and rocker chairs at the cabin. (:

    Emily2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean place and had everything you needed for a cozy cabin getaway! Culin was great with recommendations and always prompt with check-in and responses. My mom, sister and I really enjoyed our time there. We went to Hawksbill Brewery one day and took a walk down to the river.

    Chase2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay! Culin was quick to respond and offered lots of local tips. The cabin was clean and well decorated. The hot tub and fire pit were really nice and overall, it was a fantastic trip.

    Lydia2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Culin’s cabin is amazing, it looks just like a magazine model, everything is well taken care of and the style is outstanding. It made me want to move to a cabin just as adorable as that, I loved the walls, the kitchen and all the details, I am for sure gonna try and go back with more time. My husband and I had a blast on his birthday getaway, especially enjoying the hot tub. Thank you Culin for everything.

    Cla2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • GREAT STAY. We loved staying at Culins cabin. It was very clean and the hot tub was amazing! There are great recommendations in the cabin for close hiking trails, food, and activities. We did the after hours zoo tour with Mark, the zoo owner, where we got to feed and pet the animals which was awesome! I would recommend this cabin to anyone heading up to the luray area.

  • This place is like no other. If you are tired and your job is stressing you out. This is the perfect place for you and your Significant other to disconnect and enjoy each other presence. This place is worth every penny and then some. Can't wait to come back again. Nothing better then going to sleep with the sound of the river coming through the window.

    Marcus2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin finds the balance between nature, tranquility, and location being so close to many wonderful wineries. The cabin was incredibly clean — which we were greatly appreciative of given the global pandemic. The wood stove, porch, and babbling brook were among our favorites in this hidden gem. We look forward to returning in the future!

  • Pictures do not do this place justice! What a beautiful and cozy home. Perfect for relaxing, close to Shenandoah and other local attractions, and the amenities were fantastic (loved being able to make dinner in that wonderful kitchen after hiking all day)! Can't wait to return!

  • I enjoyed my stay it was peaceful. Enjoyed the random dog running around who came to say hey. It was a great place to relax. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel feel, this isn’t for you. It is still clean and comfortable, but mainly it’s for relaxing.

    Jennifer2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome views and trails to explore. Near a bunch of great wineries and places to eat. Cool sauna and pool area to take advantage of 👌🏻😃

    Shaun2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The tree house was a great and unique get away. Small and quaint, but stylish and great for a couples get away. Enjoyed meeting others nearby and would definitely go again. Had a wonderful time and the host was great

    Michael2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and the property felt like an adult playground. There were so many things to explore both around the property and in the common areas. Will definitely return in the future.

    Jazmina2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second stay in the treehouse at White Lotus. The sense of exploration the communal space provides is intoxicating. The woodstove-fired sauna located down a catwalk into the woods, complete with the cool dip pool, is a fantastic experience. Met cool people. Cooked a big meal in a fabulous shared kitchen space. Hosts were super communicative and helpful. Room was unique, clean, comfortable, and memorable. Already planning a return trip soon.

    Laura2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • I love how it’s a little (only 5 miles) off the beaten track. The treehouse is a great concept. The wood burning sauna and dipping pool is awesome! There is a great public kitchen to use and a number of outside gas grills to use.

    Edward2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This quaint home on stilts is beautiful. As described, you will have your own room overlooking the grounds. Connected to everything you need, your bedroom (and bathroom) will have everything you need. We took advantage of the sauna, swing underneath the room, and a stroll along the skywalks. There are some quirky items (you can feel the home move a little, the shower is a bit finiky on temperature control). But these added to the experience. I mean, who can say they’ve showered in a treehouse? Communication was thorough, place was clean, all needs were met and then some. Would stay again.

  • This spot is relaxing, quiet, and the perfect place to get away, unplug, and enjoy some fantastic views! Great place and great hosts!!

    John2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cabin! Great views, very cozy, and nice amenities and details. We highly recommend doing the wine tour through them as well, we had the best time and their driver was so nice!

    Chantal2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, unique stay. Hosts responded quickly and were very welcoming.

    Andi2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first time to Charlottesville, and after a long day of touring downtown, checking out the local wine, cider, and beer scene, and a delicious meal, Bailey's Retreat was the perfect spot to end a romantic anniversary evening. The cabin was rustic and charming, and offered a perfect opportunity to unplug and enjoy the moment. My only complaint might be the bed in the loft being a bit small, but that lends itself more to me being 6'4" than to anything else. Had an excellent time, and will definitely look to Bailey's Retreat when we come back!

    Cory2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Unbelievable location with beautiful views all around. Rustic, romantic, cozy and beautiful cabin, quite amazing and I will definitely be visiting again

    Glennon2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay. I thought it was a great location - far enough away to feel secluded but still a short enough drive to Afton or to Charlottesville. I loved the cabin’s size and amenities, it was great for a relaxing night away

You know those big mountain resort neighborhoods? This isn't one. This is a secret spot close to all the big attractions, but tucked away from "the hubbub." Guests love being able to walk to the Shenandoah River, a private lake, hiking trails, and Shenandoah River Outfitters. They also love finding a pet-friendly cabin that is modern rustic... not just rustic. Come get away from it all at our cabin. Enjoy the simple life, sleep in, and breath the fresh mountain air. Revel in the beauty and bounty Shenandoah has to offer guests, and feel free to revel in the garden pub... which is 120 square feet of country fun tucked into the woods. We're happy to provide you with a list of our favorite restaurants, wineries, activities, hiking trails, excursions, and more. We like to consider ourselves the unofficial ambassadors of Luray!
Off the beaten path, but by no means 4-wheel drive necessary. The cabin is part of a quaint little neighborhood walking distance to the Shenandoah River, and Shenandoah River Outfitters.
  • Great place to visit! The cabin is off the beaten path, and while it is a bumpy road to get to the location; it's worth it. If you want to have a romantic weekend -- or have a good time with some friends, a great place to visit.

  • Culin is reply’s to messages every time and the place is beautiful. Would recommend.

    Zekang2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful space with great ammenities! Very comfortable and relaxing place. Culin was a great host. He gave lots of helpful suggestions about local restaraunts/activities and responded to messages very quickly. I would definitely recommend this place.

    Emma2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a secluded getaway, this is the perfect place. The pictures are an exact representation of what to expect when you get there. The hot tub was already warmed and waiting for us, which was great after the long drive down. One thing to note though, is that you have to take all trash to a public trash disposal. The closest one is about a 30 minute drive, so be mindful of what you'll be throwing away, and the smells that may go with them.

    Devin2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic! Nestled in the middle of mountain trails and a beautiful river, we were never far from anything we wanted to do. The cabin itself was immaculately clean and the yard was very well kept. Needless to say, but the hot tub was spectacular! 10/10, will try and reserve again!

    Aaron2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Was such a nice place to stay and get away. Hot tub felt amazing. 100% recommend

    Caleb2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • our stay in luray was so relaxing and just what we needed. the dogs loved the yard and we loved spending all our time by the fire pit! the house is adorable, the hot tub was perfect and we definitely recommend this place for a getaway.

  • Honestly wish I could give Culin 6 out of 5 stars as a host. He’s incredibly attentive leading up to your stay as well as throughout it, then also gives you ideas on everything and anything close by to check out. The cabin itself has a relaxed, homey feel, and is clean and welcoming. I definitely want to stay there again.

  • I was looking for a quiet spot to reset my head, and this is the spot. The cottage is bright and clean and perfectly situated just a few minutes walk to the beach. Chris and Tim are wonderful hosts, quick to offer tips on what to see, where to eat, local excursions. So quiet at night I could open the window and listen to the ocean. Highly recommended, and I will hopefully be back soon!

  • My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at OPC. There are only great things to say about this place; from the kind and welcoming hosts, Tim and his wife Chris, to their stunningly clean cottage and all of the personalized touches! Tim was so helpful and resourceful with all of the suggestions of places to go and sights to see, anything regarding the best ways to enjoy our little getaway!! Chris was very kind and thoughtful as well and thought of the perfect little ways to personalize our experience. There were so many fun things to do staying indoors too, as Chris and Tim provide a selection of over 300 books, an “Eat, Fun, Do” box, and games to play. Perfect place for quality time and bonding!!! Check in and check out were easy, perfect location (you can walk to the beach), local to many restaurants, grocery stores, and just stuff to do outdoors!! Chris and Tim will be as little or as much involved in your trip as you want them to be. They live in the next house next to OPC, but do respect your privacy completely, and are also easily accessible and respond quickly should you need anything. Just wonderful all-around!! Would definitely book here again for next VA beach trip!

  • This place is a dream! I spent some time hiking in nearby Shenandoah and this was the perfect retreat afterward. Gavin and Jessica have such a lovely, peaceful property and really made it easy to relax. The adorable animals were a bonus. Will be here long next time for sure!

    Lauren2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful, magical, and unforgettable stay at the farm. They introduced us to the baby goats! The house was comfortable and clean, and the bed was very cozy. I would love to return here one day.

  • This was our first airbnb experience, and it was awesome! Gavin and Jessica made check in easy and got back to us quickly with questions that we had. Their farm is in the perfect spot!

  • My wife and I stayed here for two nights. The check-in process was a breeze, and Jessica and Gavin sent lots of recommendations our way for what to eat, see, and do in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed the space and spending time with the goats and Charlotte, the pig. We'd gladly stay again another time.

Within minutes is The Market at Grelen which consists of a garden center, nursery, gift shop, u-pick and cafe. Grelen and Montpelier have teamed together and created trails so you can walk from one place to the other. Also within minutes is Barboursville Gift Gallery which highlights local artists, craftsmen, and unique antiques. We are also directly across from Ingleside Guest House for overflow guests.
  • My husband and I stayed here and had an amazing time. The place was spotlessly clean and so cozy. Margaret was such a kind and easy to reach host! We really didn’t want to leave, by the end. From the relaxing walk in shower, to the little gas fire, to the amazing view of the woods, to the well appointed kitchen (with half a dozen eggs, butter, cream, coffee, and numerous other things ready to use if needed) and everything else about this place, it was such a peaceful and relaxing visit. We can’t wait to stay here again in the future 🥰 preferably in the summer so we can enjoy that amazing screened porch and outdoor shower! Definitely book a trip here!

    Emily2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Love love loved staying here. Such a. wonderful getaway spot. Margaret was great, she gave us some awesome recommendations of local spots to visit. Will be back very soon :)

  • The place is ideal for a weekend getaway! It was pretty clean and was entirely a cute setup. Cheers 🙂

  • Where do I even begin- once I arrived at the beautiful a-frame cabin I was instantly amazed with how beautiful it was from the outside. When you enter the cabin you can see all the hard work and small details Margaret and her husband have put into the Airbnb. Things like oils, fresh farm eggs, cream, coffees, and so much more were all waiting for us Incase we needed them. The farm has beautiful views of the Virginia mountains and luckily we were able to catch the sunset on the night we stayed. Margaret has been once of the best hosts I’ve experienced I definitely want to come back again in the future!

  • This yurt was amazing. My partner and I stayed here for a weekend away from the busy city life. Driving down the roads and seeing all the beautiful trees and scenery was amazing! The check in was super easy. The home was just so cosy. I could have sat by the glass windows for hours on end. One evening we played some games that we found in the yurt. It was just so pleasant. The whole experience felt warm and comfortable. Thank you again!

  • Driving up the mountain and staying in the yurt was an adventure and so fun! Friendly host and very welcoming! All the amenities you need with eggs and meat for breakfast straight from their farm, if you ask! The place was so cozy, even on the chilly nights. We did hear the watch dogs barking throughout the night but everything else was wonderful. Perfect spot to chill out and relax and go exploring too. Great trails around the property. Loved the local brewery, Bald Top and had lunch at Yoder’s market. Hope to be back again soon!

  • Excellent stay, the yurt is gorgeous and the hosts are friendly, responsive and offer helpful tips on local events. We made a fire in the outdoor fire ring, enjoyed a cozy bath, and explored a nearby winery. Highly recommend!

  • Whitt & Martha are very communicative and so helpful with tips about what to do in the area. The yurt is an incredible escape that we have returned two twice over several years. It has not lost its charm and has such an incredible hill top setting.

  • As all other reviewers have mentions, the yurt is amazing! Super comfortable, clean, and perfect for a winter weekend away :) My little car had no problem getting up the road, but I could see it being difficult if there had been snow. There's plenty to do and see nearby, and Whitt and Martha have an excellent guidebook with suggestions as well! Everything was perfect, and I would love to come back!

The barn is rustic, cozy and quiet. Being an over 100 year old structure means that it has a few quirks, which we have tried to explain as best we cane other the pictures, so we hope it piques the interest of the right guests who can come and enjoy their stay here!
Stay in our cozy, finished apartment in our barn. Our barn is located behind our historic and charming arts and crafts bungalow on almost an acre of land in a quiet neighborhood. Enjoy views of trees, flowers, and a backyard vineyard. Drink a cup of tea or coffee made in the cute kitchenette while relaxing with a good book! We do not have cable, but have wireless internet as well as AppleTV and Netflix for watching movies & TV shows. This is a peaceful little treasure to use as your home base for sightseeing in Virginia Beach and the surrounding area!
We are located in the Lake Shores neighborhood. Its a nice neighborhood for taking walks by the lake and also a 5 minute drive from the peaceful beaches of the Chesapeake Bay. A short drive away are fun attractions such as the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Seashore State Park, First Landing State Park, and Downtown Norfolk. We are located in a convenient location for making day trips to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens, etc.

  • Great place to stay for 2. Quiet neighborhood and hosts were welcoming. The only minor negative overall was the size of the water tank which left very little hot water. Other than that, for a weekend getaway it was quaint and comfortable. Highly recommend.

  • Cute place! Clean, with good recommendations for close beaches and dinning places!

We hope to make it back again someday!

  • What CAN'T I say about this place?? I'd give it--and the proprietors 10 stars if I could! You feel like you've really been transported to Bilbo's home in the Shire; every time you turn around, you notice another special little detail or treasure. If you're a fan of Middle Earth, you simply must visit this place. And Randy and Linda are just two of the kindest, warm-hearted, welcoming people in the world.

    Cory2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This has been the best Airbnb experience I've ever had. Right from the second we got there to the time we checked out, we felt so taken care of. Randy and Linda are great hosts and are really passionate about making your experience one that you will never forget. The Hobbit Hole itself has some of the most intricate details I've ever seen. Every corner and every turn reveals pleasant surprises. It is also extremely cozy. The buckleberry ferry was also amazing. We watched the sunset out on the water while sipping on some wine. It made for a very romantic evening. Linda's seed cake was very delicious and Randy's workshop was a lot of fun. We enjoyed the wood working and learned a lot from Randy about the craft. The trinkets we made will make for great keepsakes that'll make us fondly remember our time at Hobbit's Dream. I would highly recommend this place to anyone with any level of appreciation for LOTR or the Hobbit movies. It's really magical and does a great job of transporting you to the Hobbit universe. I look forward to visiting again!

    Tanya2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The hobbit home is beautiful, Randy and Linda are both very kind and helpful. It was a perfect little getaway!

    Danielle2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • If you're a lord of the rings fan, you're doing yourself a disservice if you've never gone here. The hobbit home is authentic and beautiful with so many tiny details you will spend hours discovering for yourself. The owners warmly greet you and immediately make you feel like family. You get a wonderful tour of everything once you arrive by the owner/wizard himself. The outside of Hobbiton was just as beautiful and fun to explore especially at night sitting on the romantically candle lit floating ferry with your loved one. After our check out the owner invited us to his woodshop to see how all the magic is made. He was as humble and delightful as he was a master at his craft, showing us some of his wood carving techniques. I highly recommend taking one of the wood classes he offers, but there is no pressure to do so by any means. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our experience there. My wife and I are already planning another journey :). You will not meet friendlier B&B owners, at least in my own experience. Do not hesitate on this experience, you will NOT be disappointed. Also the complimentary seed cake the owners wife makes is amazing!

    Morla2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Randy and Linda’s hobbit dream house was dream! All the details that they put into the house truly blew our minds. We attended Randy’s wood workshop which was such a fun experience! Already looking to book next years visit. Thanks Randy and Linda for such an amazing experience!

  • Randy and Linda are absolutely delightful hosts. With a space as beautiful and unique as theirs is it would be so easy to rest on that and have minimal contact with guests. However they really go the extra mile to make sure that your stay feels like an extension of home. Both in the initial greeting, down to check ins and recommendations to make sure you are doing okay. We participated in the pipe and broom making workshops - an absolutely great investment of our time on our honeymoon. It was so great to be able to make things together and was a great value for the length of time that randy spent with us. Not only on our specific projects - but just showing us what they do and how. Never felt pressured or inept while working with someone so skilled. Cannot recommend this stay enough!!!

  • What can I say, "A Hobbit's Dream" was a literal dream - and this is coming from someone who has not read the books nor watched the movies. I snatched this place up when I saw a rare opening that fit with my schedule because my significant other is a huge LOTR fan. Although it was one night, I figured one night was better than never experiencing this AirBnB and I'm so glad we went all in. Randy and Linda are a delight - they met us upon arrival and gave us a tour of the location. We were treated to little gifts, the most delicious seed cake, and complimentary red wine. The amount of props and history in this little hobbit hole is unfathomable, but what touched me greatly was the amount of love and work put into this spectacular living space. We had a wonderful time playing dress up, enjoying the solitude of the property, and (at least for me) learning more about the world JRR Tolkien created. It was also wonderful that Lexington was just a short 15 minute drive away so that we could step out and enjoy the small town and dinner before heading back. My significant other also participated in the pipe-making class and Randy went above and beyond gently guiding him through the process, never making us feel rushed or unwanted. We enjoyed listening to his tidbits and motivation behind the Hobbit house and we were pleased with the generous hospitality. We would absolutely book this place again in a heartbeat (if we can ever find an opening!) - it is a great escape and a must-do for anyone, Hobbit fan or not. You will not be disappointed - thank you, Randy and Linda for creating such a magical space!

  • This was one of the most fun experiences I've ever had. I surprised my boyfriend with a nights stay in the tipi and had no idea about the adventure we'd have. We hope to be back one day!

    Annie2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful experience! My boyfriend & I were only here for 2 nights but it was an unforgettable time. From the coziness of the tipi, to the views, their animals, and the weather, it was all perfect! Very cute details and warm hospitality from Sara and Jeremiah. We enjoyed it so much and hope to be back soon!

    Diana2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place is super cute! The tipi is a unique blend of cozy, private yet accessible. It was fun hanging out with the furry friends. Sara and Jeremiah are friendly hosts and it was a pleasure meeting them. Highly recommend checking it out!

  • My boyfriend and I spent two nights in this amazing tipi, and we could not have asked for a better trip. The land was gorgeous and full of amazing farm animals. Sara and Jeremiah were both so welcoming. We will definitely be back and hopefully keep this beautiful tipi as our anniversary spot.

  • A magical time with so many thoughtful and creative touches. Don’t miss this alluring experience. 🌙

    Lisa2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a must see. It’s one of the best hidden gems we’ve ever encountered. Amazing bang for the buck and Sara, Jeremiah, Papa Beebes and all the “fury loved ones” treated us like a king and queen. Do not hesitate to check this place out.

    Allen2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect getaway for a night. Sara and Jeremiah were wonderful hosts — kind, helpful, and welcoming. It was a cold night, but the teepee was warm and cozy with plenty of blankets and a heater. There’s also a deck with seating and a nice chiminea for a fire (they provide all you need to start it). The stars were incredible. In the morning, we woke up to a beautiful view of the Blue Ridge mountains. The entire property is breathtaking. We will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a unique experience and/or an escape.

    Micah2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We HIGHLY recommend this sweet little place. It is cozy, peaceful, and a one of a kind experience. The mountain views, farm animals, hosts, family pets, greenhouse, and of course the tipi all made our stay unlike anything we could experience anywhere else. It was a really special trip :) Don’t miss out!

  • Genuinely the best 2 day vacation I've ever had. The private driveway is very rocky and a little narrow, but even my 2010 toyota prius could handle it. However, if you care about your car's paint job, you may want to use a rental car for this trip. The cabin was very clean, kitchen was much more well stocked than I'd expected and the fireplace in the living room made the whole place very warm and cozy. Overall 10/10 would reccomend and will definitely be back again to enjoy it in the summertime

    Scarlett2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What an awesome weekend we had at Olivia’s place! The view is breathtaking! We enjoyed cooking meals in the fully equipped kitchen and the grill outside, playing board games that are in the house, watching movies in front of the fire place and drinking coffee and wine on the deck, taking in the beauty of the surrounding nature, we had lots of birds, small and large, “join us” on the deck! This place is very secluded, and did I mention the view? We decided to spend our entire time at the house, taking in the view and enjoying the quiet place together.

    Seger2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this location with our 2 pups for a nice Valentine's weekend if relaxation. We arrived very late at night but Olivia's directions and self check-in information made it a breeze to arrive and get in. The views are spectacular. There is a peacful feeling being up so high in the mountains. The cabin was very cozy and had everything you would need for a stay including lots of games, dvds and a fully stocked kitchen. One thing that the listing doesnt empathize on is how Dog Friendly it is! There was a giant dog bed, a basket of toys and extra dog bowls. It was a really nice added bonus. Our dogs loved looking out the windows over the valley. The fire place was amazing and very easy to use. It helped warm up the room very quickly. We had a great time and now my husband wants to buy a property near by. Lol. Thank you Olivia!

    Jessica2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home with beautiful views. Super clean and Olivia was very responsive. If you visit here, make sure you wake up to see the stunning sunrise views

    Ibrahim2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • The views at this place were spectacular! We stayed during the winter and were even treated to about a half-inch of snow on our second day - really couldnt ask for much more!

    Chris2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • This place fulfills all your expectations and more. You have wonderful views of God's creation along with the amenities where you don't have to leave the cabin for the entirety of your stay! Would go back in a heartbeat!

    Emily2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This home has the most beautiful mountain views we have ever seen! It was breathtaking! Sitting in front of the fire was one of our favorite spots. The bed was extremely comfortable as well. It is the perfect romantic getaway! It's very private and quiet but also has great wifi. Olivia thought of every little amenity. It was extremely cold in January, but the heaters kept the place toasty warm. She had plenty of fire wood and starter logs there for us and lots of kitchen appliances. We cooked almost every night. It was perfect! I highly recommend Olivia's place!

Ever wanted to know what it felt like to live in a one room log cabin? Now you have the chance! This cabin from the 1840s was meticulously reassembled on a 500 acre farm. The cabin sits right on the James River. Come and enjoy the quiet, the river and the scenery and forget the hustle and bustle of the city. No electric or water but a great fireplace, bed and porch overlooking the river. Lots of hiking trails and a canoe provided. We have just added an outdoor Kichen and bath facility
This one room log cabin is on the James River. Come and enjoy it - just like you are camping but with a VERY nice “tent”!
This is the most secluded part of the farm. We will check on you daily if you wish to see if there are questions or any thing that is needed. We can also give you your space. Just let us know.
  • All the amenities that you would never expect in a rented cabin. Don’t worry about bringing your grill or pans. Beautiful location right on the river. Would definitely recommend for your next “camping with a fancy tent” experience!

    Kelly2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great getaway! My wife, myself, and our dog truly enjoyed our stay. The cabin stayed warm and cozy as we had a fire going most of the weekend (Late February). Used the outdoor kitchen the first night we stayed. Easy check-in, we borrowed the 4 wheel drive vehicle which was essential in navigating to the cabin. We packed too much! Dan did a great job providing everything you'd need to stay for the weekend (utensils, paper plates, pots and pans, trash bags, germ-x, seasoned firewood, etc.). We would definitely go back!

    Robert2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place away from the city, very peaceful and beautiful, will be back again!

    Pooyan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Dan and Lisa, and everyone else on the property are all wonderfully kind, fast, and attentive. We absolutely LOVED our experience, and will be returning in the future! Such a lovely get-away!

    Rachel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place and the perfect getaway! Host was very responsive and kind. If you need help, there is someone on the farm who will gladly help. The road was a little rougher than we anticipate but Dan gave us plenty of warning because of the rain when we arrived. The cabin provided several items we needed for cooking and at the outdoor kitchen and the wood stove was awesome! Definitely gonna come back.

    Marian2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, secluded cabin. Lantern, candles, firewood, paper towels, toilet paper provided. Amazing place to spend a quiet weekend next to the river. No heating, no running water - just as advertised!

    David2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy, beautiful cabin! We arrived after dark but it was still easy to find thanks to Dans amazing direction giving skills! Everything was better than we expected. It was a little cold this weekend but perfectly okay because there was an additional propane heater in the cabin just in case the fire died out. We will definitely be back, my fiancée and I (and our dogs) loves this so much.

  • Incredible house with the most stylish decor I have seen at an Airbnb. I would definitely recommend this to all travelers! I wish we could have stayed a few more nights.

    Claire2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Communication before we arrived was quick and thorough. The house itself was spotless and extremely stylish. The interior design was well done. The master bed was one of the most comfortable I've been in. Easily one of the best Air BnB experiences I've had. I look forward to returning.

    Nathan2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great spot! Loved this cute, rustic space. Great for a quick getaway for business or personal. Hilarious reading materials—the owner is obviously a traveler, CIA, or has a twisted sense of humor and varied interest, haha—in fact, maybe all the above! It was excellent. You could grab the 9/11 Committee report to read or learn about Russian Criminal Tattoos and their meanings (not for the faint of heart). Great location for downtown. Excellent amenities offered. Clean space and awesome that both bedroom areas had their own bathroom and shower/tub. Updated design and fixtures. Much bigger than you’d think too! I was so enthralled with the books and art collection, I didn’t even turn the large flat screen TV on. Would love to stay here again when I travel to Richmond occasionally. Felt safe inside!

Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and featured in Savor Magazine as one of the "Best Places to Go Glamping in Virginia," this cabin is a respite from the busyness of life. Located on 2.5 acres backing onto a mountain stream, our cabin is minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail, Glenwood Horse Trail, countless hikes, and several ultramarathon courses. Our cabin is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and people from all backgrounds are welcome.
At just over 300 square feet this "tiny house" is both quaint and surprisingly spacious boasting an open floor plan and cathedral ceiling. The cabin accommodates 5 people comfortably (queen bed in loft; bedroom with 3 bunks). Can accommodate 1 or 2 additional people on the pullout couch (double bed).
While quiet and remote, the cabin is situated within a small rural mountain community with a few permanent residents and other vacation home owners.
  • This place is amazing. So relaxing, perfect for any nature lovers getaway. Tim and Cindi are very accommodating and pay attention to detail. The pictures certainly do not do it justice. Be warned the road into the cabin is extremely narrow with many large rocks, ruts, and potholes. To get anywhere it's about a 15 minute ride to a main road. Also trash must be taken with you/and/or dumped at a local facility. Hot water extremely limited and wifi brings you back to the old days of dial up! I was very pleased with the plethora of knowledge given about the local area and I look forward to hopefully staying again in the future!

    Melanie2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay as always. This is our third year in a row staying and it's always a blast to get lost in the woods and enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains!

    Cory2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Tim and Cindi were so hospitable and communicative and gave great hiking recommendations (we did Apple Orchard Falls - highly recommend!). The home was adorable, sparkling clean, with everything we needed to cook a few meals. Comfy mattresses and a great living area. We squeezed 5 adults in the tiny house and were very comfortable! A great spot off the beaten path.

    Amanda2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was just as lovely as on the pictures! We appreciated the style and eye for detail in the interior of the cabin. Great space for a getaway and very quietly located in the forest. Tim and Cindi always communicated promptly and prepared us for the ride by giving heads up about the road conditions, which were a bit challenging with our small car. But we managed to get there without any bigger problems and enjoyed our stay! Definitely recommend this cosy place for both longer and shorter stays!

    Katharina2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place to relax and unwind! We definitely recommend this adorable cabin!

    Katelyn2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this little cabin! Great space. Super cozy and great location for hikes. Would recommend 10/10.

    Caroline2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tim & Cindi's cabin in Shenandoah is as charming of a tiny home and getaway as the pictures look! Sparkling clean with all the amenities you could need (fireplace, stove, microwave, oven, hair dryer, towels, linens, shampoo you name it). We had the perfect long weekend away from the city and surrounded by nature.

    Emily2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Tim & Cindi are great hosts! A friend and I were there for a much needed girls weekend away and loved having such a cute (and very clean) place to come back after hiking. Tim & Cindi were super responsive whenever we had questions and made our stay very pleasant. Would definitely go back!

Cozy, private one room cottage (with bathroom), run by a loving, easy-going, non-judging family. Cottage measures 12' x 24' (total of 288sq. feet). Very relaxed environment. Max price we will charge is $60.00 a night. Ask for details if you have more than 3 people. Wake up happy.
The Rubys Rest cottage is located in the back yard of our property, in close proximity to our main house. The cottage is one room. The cottage has a full size bed and a bunk bed (bed space for 4 people). We also have a child's cot and an adult size cot for a filth person. We have squeezed in more than 5 people before, if needed. The cottage has clean sheets and towels, along with a mini refrigerator, coffee maker, small tv (no cable or local channels), and dvd player (about a dozen or so of my favorite dvds are available). LOTS of interesting books to read. There is a window AC unit for the spring-fall and baseboard electric heat, which does a great job of keeping the cottage warm even on the coldest of nights. The bathroom is spacious and has a stand in shower, with hot and cold water. shampoo and soap provided. There is a covered deck attached to the cottage, with an outdoor sink and an outdoor shower. We have a chicken coop in the back corner of the yard with 6 chickens. We have four cats. Also, we share the backyard with my parents (their small house is in the back corner of our yard), they have a sweet dog named Norman. We have been renting the cottage out for about 8 years and enjoy meeting the wonderful people who stay with us. We try and keep costs as economical as possible for our guests; notably, the nightly cost(s) include both the county lodging tax and state sales tax. We are super easy going and will be sure to make you feel at ease here. All smiles - no worries.
We live in Damascus, on a dead end road, with very friendly neighbors. When you arrive, simply park in the driveway and walk thru the car port and into the backyard. The cottage will be in view. We have a Rubys Rest sign in our front yard.
  • My wife and I both enjoyed our stay. The location is perfect to walk to a shuttle service to get a ride to one (or several) of the many trails in the area. Jeffrey was very friendly and shared a lot of information about the areas attractions. I would definitely stay again. Plus chickens!

    John2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We'd stayed at Jeffrey's once before, a couple years ago. We loved being greeted by the dog and cats, and it's always fun to check in on the chickens. The place is full of a wonderful assortment of books--we left feeling really inspired to build ourselves a small cabin. I'd recommend staying here, just beware: the rooster crows at dawn!

    Bridgid2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really awesome place to stay! Very comfy feel, lots and lots of reading options! Couldn't recommend this one enough!

    James2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Nestled on the top of a hill, Ruby’s Rest is the perfect getaway location. Everything felt like home — there was a library of books, a fridge, and everything else one would need for a night. Jeff’s place also has a treehouse-like platform, a chicken coup, and many other interesting elements. If you need advice on hiking, Jeff has a lot of knowledge on the local hikes and international hikes! I loved staying at Ruby’s Rest!

    Claudia2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This little place just walking distance from Damascus and the bike shops and the AT is warm and cozy, completely private but the hosts are on property as well if you want to chat with them. There are chickens and various other critters about as well and there is just a super chill vibe. Don’t miss the Damascus Diner also if you are in the area. We ate there two days in a row and it was great.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! The space was spotlessly clean and had all the amenities we could ask for. It’s a wonderful place to get away with your loved one. The entire place is literally feet from the bay and you can enjoy both beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the huge deck. It is a quiet, romantic getaway that is a true bargain compared to staying in hectic downtown Virginia Beach. We dined at the Baja restaurant right next door and had a great meal. The store at the beginning of Sandpiper Road has EVERYTHING you need for supplies so you don’t have to travel very far if you just need to pick up a few things during your stay. Anthony2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This was an amazing place for a getaway. Waking up everyday and looking out of the big window of the living room to see the calm ocean during a sunset or even in the middle of the night was a fantastic experience. If you’re looking for something calming and quiet, this is the place!

Beautiful cabin in private mountain community, perched in the trees with mountain views and short walk to the Shenandoah River.
The "Treehouse" is an A-frame cabin sitting on a hillside, surrounded by trees. When you are sitting in the house or on its huge deck, it feels as if you are perched in the trees. It is a one-room cabin, with loft and large exterior deck. The first floor is an open area, with living room, full kitchen and eating area, and bathroom. The second floor is a loft, accessible by ladder. There is a double bed on the loft and two double futons and one single (kid-sized) futon on the main level. Linens and towels: We ask that guests bring linens, if they are able to do that easily. We do not have laundry facilities onsite, so doing laundry is a high cost we want to avoid having to pass onto guests (approx 2hours at laundromat @$20 hour and cost of laundromat approx $10). We do have sheets and towels available for those that need them — just let us know in advance and we will make sure to have them available for you.
The Treehouse is located in the "Shenandoah Gap" community on a private mountain in Shenandoah, VA. As a Treehouse guest, you have full access to the Shenandoah Gap river access area, as well as to all common areas of the mountain (i.e., trails accessible off the road).
  • Simply amazing.

  • What a cute space to spend the weekend with nature! Felt so homey and comfortable! It was a smooth drive to the Luray Caverns and the trails. The surprise amenities, like some cooking ingredients was a plus! I would definitely come back!

  • Cozy place in a great secluded spot. Plenty of games, books, and videos to stay entertained while off the grid. Property was just what I expected, a pleasant experience from previous rentals.

  • Beautiful scenery, really does feel like you are in a tree!

    Brittany2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This was a very nice stay. It finds itself off a gravel road, in a place where the houses are few and far between. Creating a nice secluded feeling, the house itself looks pretty neat too. The place was very clean, and there is lots of stuff around for entertainment, books, movies, board games, a coloring book etc... I think one of are favorites was the hammock. All of the amenities work very well, the bathroom is also very nice. The loft area is amazing, great view when looking out the bay windows at the front of the cabin and a nice view looking into the woods behind the cabin. Overall an awesome place and was better than I had expected it to be :) thank you!!

    William2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to getaway. Would recommend to anyone that wants to spend time in the Shenandoah area! Sally was a great host and responded very quickly. Great weekend in the treehouse!

Quiet private location in the woods with private path to the river
Like a time machine to the 1930's. All wood house and furniture. Old style plumbing. New electric. Gas stove for cooking Wood stove for heat (Electric and gas backup ) The cabin was built in 1920. Almost a century old. It was renovated in 1995 after Purchased by current owner. Please : No smoking inside the cabin. The driveway is very passable but some with low vehicle clearance have expressed I should give a heads up. If you’re not sure, you can walk down the driveway first. Plenty of Spare parking on the main raid which is part of the 70 acre parcel in which the cabin is situated. The river trail is over 50 miles long and no motorized traffic is allowed
No neighbors to bother you. Every Thursday night there is a free bluegrass performance at the local recreation center in Fries. Local talent. 7 to 9 pm
  • We decided to cap off a backpacking trip in Grayson Highlands by extending our trip at this cabin. If you are looking for quiet and secluded time in nature, this cabin certainly delivers. I enjoyed sitting on the porch and reading, building fires in the wood stove, and hiking down to and along The New River. The cabin was well decorated, and the kitchen had enough equipment that we were able to cook all the food we needed. Unfortunately, the shower was not working while we were there, but there was plenty of hot water for a more indulgent bath. James was very responsive to our messages and made sure that we were well accommodated. He even shared some of his chickens' eggs with us, which we enjoyed for breakfast. We would happily return again in the future if we find ourselves in the area again.

  • Couldn’t have loved this place more, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was there.

    Hannah2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to rest and rewind. The hike to the river is awesome and I left feeling relaxed and uplifted. The property is gorgeous and the cabin has everything you need. It was a little cold the first week of March, but the host had a ton of firewood and I kept the wood burning stove going all week. I will definitely return next time I need an escape.

    Kelli2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a wintry girls weekend in this charming little cabin and we made memories we’ll cherish forever. Note that if you’re visiting in the winter it is quite cold - space heaters & the wood burning stove helped but it was still quite chilly. Also - we did feel a bit vulnerable in the evening. It’s a very remote location, and there’s not much in terms of security. But all in all it was the location of our dreams!

    Megan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • James’ cabin is absolute perfection. He has managed to create the ideal blend of simple, primitive cabin living with a dash of modern convenience. I can’t wait to return! Secluded, peaceful, and comfortable. Thank you for creating a lovely experience, James!

    Steve2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is a great find. It is a 1920 cabin overflowing with character. The creek is right beside the cabin so you can hear the water. It is spacious, very clean and had all the amenities we needed. We enjoyed the wood stove and there are additional heaters that kept us toasty. It was exactly as described. Great location, character, beautiful views and so peaceful. Great lighting with ample overhead lighting and lamps, extra blanket, plenty of bath towels, etc. A huge assortment of books for reading. There is a spice rack with some spices and a lovely cupboard with sugar, creamer, etc. Kitchen accessories were perfect - toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, etc. There is a TV in the living room with ample seating. Front & back porch views are amazing! The path to the river is right beside the cabin. There is also a fire pit near the back porch. A great cabin for relaxing and enjoying nature. No phone service for our cell provider which we loved! James was an excellent host. So happy to find this gem. We’ll return for sure!

  • Dan and his team responded quickly and were very helpful. Everyone was super friendly and the view is amazing! The pictures don’t do it justice. For no power or running water it was still perfect. 100% recommend this cabin.

  • Beautiful spot with a great view of the river! We enjoyed reading on the deck and walking through the farm down to the river for a picnic. Thanks to Dan, Lisa, and everyone else for making the stay so great!

    Dave2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is the perfect getaway with a great mix of amenities and simpler life. when you want comfort but to also leave city life behind for a few days I’d recommend this cabin. Lots of fun activities as well !

    Kristina2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Wood stove heats the cabin well and the scenery is beautiful.

    Allan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • this place was great, as long as you know what to expect - it's not fancy, and there is no running water or electricity, but that is part of the charm. there is a wood fire place for heat and an outhouse down the way. I recommend arriving during daylight - it is very much off the grid and is difficult to find in the dark. while there is no electricity, you do get very good cell service at the cabin. Dan and his team are very responsive and helpful. I had issues starting the fire the first night and they promptly sent someone over to help me out. would definitely come back if I ever want to go off the grid again!

    Peter2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect great communication from Dan. He is very prompt and helpful. The views on the property are amazing. Walking around the farm is fun. If you eat beef or pork you should see if Dan has anything available for you to have while you stay at the cabin. The sausage he has made from his livestock is very delicious, some of the best I’ve ever had.

How we are handling the Covid-19 virus: ****Currently we are only hosting essential persons traveling out of necessity within the confines of Virginia’s Executive Orders 51, 53, and 55 until orders are lifted***. Welcome to Grateful Meadows, a non-profit animal sanctuary and boutique retreat. This cozy cottage is nestled at the forest's edge overlooking the rescued donkey's & chicken's pasture.
From the shampoos to the bedding, your stay with us will be cruelty-free. We also try to use locally made and organic products whenever possible. While staying at Grateful Meadows you're welcome to meet our sanctuary residents, jump in the salt water pool, or unwind on the walking trails. The Guest Lounge is 50' from the cottage and features a projector t.v., kitchen, billiards table, darts, games, and a full private bathroom. PET POLICY: Companion animals are welcome! Due to the size of the cottage no more than TWO fur babies. -Dogs MUST be on a lease at all times. This is for the safety of our residents and guests.
We are in a rural small town so many of our nearby amenities include hiking, kayaking, vintage/antique shops, skydiving, zip-lining, golfing, breweries, and wineries. The closest restaurants, grocery store, and gas stations are a 10min drive to West Point, VA. There you'll find a few restaurants, Food Lion grocery store, and fast food options. *Colonial Williamsburg is a 30 minute drive and Richmond proper is 50 minutes away. Both cities offer lots of great places to eat, drink, and entertain.
  • Wonderful hosts with friendly farm animals. They are very quick to respond for any questions you have. This is a great place to go if you want to get out of the city. We ended up going to Wahrani trail and York river state park for some good hiking. This is a prime location to relax.

    David2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a wonderful stay and absolutely loved your animals, thank you so much!

    Alexis2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place was great, my husband and I really enjoyed our stay. Super cozy and just what we needed to get out of the city. The breakfast and coffee were delicious. My only complaint was the hot tub wasn’t working and the common area was a little too cold for my liking. Definitely recommend bringing slippers or warm socks because that floor was icy cold. Overall I recommend!

  • We recommend everyone come experience grateful meadows ! We stayed at the tiny cozy cottage and it was amazing. A great off the grid getaway ! Although we did take pictures of the beautiful place we spent most of are time without our phones connecting with each other and the animals.

  • This place is soooooo cute! The animals that we got to meet were the highlight of our trip! The breakfast is AMAZING! The rooms were clean. The space felt safe. Husband and I enjoyed our weekend getaway. We will definitely be back!

    Kristen2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Grateful Meadows! Jonathan and Victoria have a beautiful piece of land! As soon as we arrived we were given a tour of the property and got to meet all of their sweet animals. The cottage was beautiful and pristine inside and we had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend. The breakfast was delicious as well and had a personal touch. I loved interacting with their donkeys, Marley and Archer each morning. We will happily continue to support their cause and hope to return for another stay again in the future. I would recommend Grateful Meadows for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in the country.

    Melanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

  • My friend and I had a wonderful time at the tipi disconnecting for the weekend. The tipi was so nice and cozy, I definitely would love to visit again!

    Chelsea2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We came here with our 4 year old son and we all really enjoyed our unique experience staying in a tipi! The tipi is a lot more spacious than I expected and there are lots of activities to do on site. We drove 20 minutes to Hollins Mill Park for a hike. There’s a cool waterfall and tunnel there that are definitely worth the visit. We brought our own disposable utensils and plates because there’s no actual plumbing and washing dishes takes a bit long. It was 24 degrees at night but the fire and the blankets kept up warm. We had an amazing time!

    Gloria2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time! Very relaxing! The blankets on the bed are so warm! Looking forward to coming back in the spring.

  • Pictures are what you get. We didnt see any animals that may live on the property, but we also stayed in January so they could have been in a warmer place. It was comfortable, well maintained, cleaned, stocked with wood and warm blankets which was essential for 30 degree weather. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend to anyone that’s looking for an adventure! Thanks for hosting us!

Upscale camping to the next level! do not expect to get a hot shower though, and expect the weather conditions to play a role in your experience because it is still camping, our tipi was a little cold at night and took some time to warm up but the blankets that they provide are unbelievably warm, and cozy (for real, they will keep you warm). Furthermore, a heater is provided, and the fire place adds a cozy warm touch. The location is outstanding, you are in the middle of the woods (there is a camp fire that we used that made our night that much better). There are also farm animals on the farm in which it is located that are very friendly and adorable (sheep, dog, cat, donkey, goats). Lovely experience and will definitely come back

This 350 sq ft cottage is a tiny home concept space, boasting an airy entry, living area, storage landing, kitchenette, bathroom and sleeping loft. Perfect for a romantic getaway, a work retreat, a stop through town on the way to another location, a small family, or a group of friends participating in the many events held in Charlottesville- weddings, concerts, triathlons. Accommodates 1-4 people looking for a relaxed, stylish, modern and comfortable place to stay.
This cottage is just really cool. Oxford Cottage is a modern Tiny House. It is larger than a standard hotel suite and provides everything you need in a home base during your travels. It is energy efficient and insulated and feels like a tree house, even though it is on the ground. Situated behind the main house on a .75 acre lot, Oxford Cottage is located in a cute, private setting in the heart of Charlottesville! On the interior, the ceilings are tall, which makes the space feel much larger than it is. The large windows allow for beautiful natural light and views of the surrounding trees and birds. There is plenty of space for 1-2 people, but 4 adventurous souls could stay and be cozy. The beds and furnishings are comfortable and well appointed and linens and towels are provided. There is central heating and air and a ceiling fan. It is a very basic and relaxed space. There is no TV, but there is free, super fast fiber Wifi so you could stream away on your phone, iPad, etc. The kitchenette has a microwave, small induction cook top, refrigerator freezer and a toaster oven. There are enough dishes and silverware, mugs, cups and wine glasses for up to 4 people. One important note about the stairs to the loft, is that they are steep and you will need to take your time going up and down. Use the handrails and watch your noggin at the top. It's easier to come down them backwards, like you would a ladder on a boat. Toddlers and folks with knee or hip issues should not use them. (We can provide a safety gate if you have a little kiddo). You can also just decide to sleep on the futon in the living area if you do not wish to navigate the stairs. They are sturdy and well built, but they are not a standard stair case. We have taken care to build and maintain a low impact building. Please turn off the lights when leaving the cottage and be aware of water usage. We provide low impact shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and shave cream, and toilet paper and paper towels. There is a hair dryer and iron. The cottage is also available for rent along with the main house if you have a larger party during the Holidays or Graduation.
Oxford Cottage is located in one of the oldest, most family friendly neighborhoods in Charlottesville. There are lots of old, tall trees and maturely landscaped yards that create a serene and pretty setting. Folks are frequently walking their dogs and strolling their babies. The location can't be beat. It is 10 minutes from the UVA campus, Historic Downtown and the Barracks Road area. If you are in town for business, graduation, football games, weddings, Foxfield, or just for leisure, you can get everywhere you need to by car within 10 minutes. If you want to walk, it's about 20 minutes to downtown and UVA and about 15 minutes to Barracks Road.

  • Warm, cozy and private. I really enjoyed my stay! The space is thoughtfully arranged and the workmanship on the cottage is really nice. Fast internet and generous snacks kept my work going, and then enjoyed a nice walk to the downtown for dinner. Would definitely stay here again, it's the perfect place to have quiet privacy, but not feel the cold loneliness of a hotel.

  • This space was a dream! My boyfriend & I had always talked about staying in a tiny home. This place is perfect and spacious for it being a tiny home. Everything you need is provided. Everywhere there is to tour and visit is also within close proximity. Loved it!

  • Very cool space. We only stayed two nights but could have easily stayed longer. I can't really think of anything else to say other than we had such a good time there. Check-in was easy, Aly had a very detailed message about the stay and had no questions or hassles other how to open the little push in pop up drain in the tiny mini sink. She was super sweet the one time we crossed paths and we would definitely book this place again if we are back this way.
