Guesthouse in Topanga

Peaceful Paradise With Mountain View and Full Kitchen

Step back in time in this 70s-inspired 2-story space designed to make the most of the view. Thoughtfully collected vintage pieces blend with numerous plants, plentiful books, and a record player. Watch bountiful wildlife through the windows. NOTE: we live in an area surrounded by wildlife, horses, dogs and a vast array of plants (our neighborhood is called Fernwood because it is the most green & lush from the ocean marine layer) so if you have allergies or asthma, this place may not be best for you. We also occasionally allow dogs, only if approved in advance. The upstairs space is bright and airy and all about the view! The kitchen is filled with a mix of 2nd hand and new kitchen tools. I love collecting beautiful wooden bowls and ceramics, perfect for showing off your homemade dishes. We try to keep the kitchen stocked with some basic essentials like olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sea salt, garlic, mustard, ketchup, soy sauce, and more - this way you don't have to stress about picking up so many items at the store. The bathroom is small and minimal, but has everything you need. I also included a basket with beach towels. Head downstairs to an open bedroom with wood ceilings and a large closet. The bed is a brand new Tuft & Needle King. There is a desk if you find yourself needing to do some work. The room opens up to an enclosed semi-private outdoor space. We live across the way in the main house so you may see glimpses of us through the privacy partition. I am always happy to share any herbs or veggies in the garden. There are concrete floors and lots of natural wood elements throughout the space. There is a wall heater in each room to keep things cozy. Our home was built in the 60s and then updated a lot in the 70s/80s when a hippie commune called the "Peace Farm" lived here. It has a lot of quirks, but that is why we love Topanga :) On the other side of your patio is our courtyard which features two garden beds. Feel free to check them out and pick some herbs. We often see raccoons, bobcats, squirrels and even an occasional snake in our yard, so always be aware of where you are walking. Your private entrance is right next to your parking space in the driveway, so there is a chance you may not encounter us at all. We work a lot and are always out and about, however, we love meeting guests so we can be available if you'd like to meet and get some local tips. Or if you prefer, we can totally keep our distance ;) Stroll the secret trail nestled moments away to meet some friendly neighbors and dogs. The gentle ocean breeze means that locals call this area "climate-perfect Fernwood." From here on the west side of Topanga, it's under 15 minutes to the beach. We are in the hilly part of the canyon, which means the best views, but also narrow steep roads. Take it slow and enjoy the sounds of nature! This neighborhood is known as Fernwood due to it’s lush landscape, which may not be ideal for allergies. It is best to have a car in LA because it’s so spread out. You can walk to our small town of Topanga from our house but it’s about 2 miles downhill and then you have to walk back up!! We’ve done it and it’s not bad. There are also some great walking trails just steps away from us. In our town you’ll find a great bike shop where you can rent a mountain bike and they’ll give you tons of info on where to ride. Uber & Lyft do come up here when requested, but it sometimes takes some patience. We are about 10-15 minutes driving from our local beach with tons of free street parking on Topanga Blvd (look at the signs to ensure you are in a free parking zone). The first time you drive to our house, you may be a little freaked out by the windy curves of the road! It may feel like forever, but it's actually only 1 mile off the main boulevard to our house. Drive slow and take in the sights... beautiful rock formations, the frogs singing by the creek and the quirky houses! We have two small rescue dogs that get very excited when new people visit, so if you don't like dogs, this may not be the best option ;) We take them everywhere with us, so there won't be any yappy dogs ruining your peaceful retreat. Also, we live next-door to horses, so there may be some interesting noises throughout the day and night. Parking is very limited in our small cul-de-sac, so please make sure you park in the designated spot in our driveway. I will send you instructions before you arrive. If you smoke, please use the designated ashtray on the patio. We are in a fire zone, so do not smoke near brush. If you smoke inside, I will have to take a $200 fee out of your deposit. Smoking in the canyon is pretty frowned upon since everyone is so concerned about fires, so I recommend bringing a vape pen so you can avoid glares ;) Cell reception isn't great in the canyon, so please be prepared to not have any service until you connect to our wifi. Be prepared for power and internet outages, road closures, evacuations, spiders and more! You aren't in the city and things can get wild up here ;) Like most Airbnbs, we don't allow non-registered guests on the property without our consent, so please ask us if you'd like to have visitors over and I am sure we can accommodate! There is a 3 person max for this studio for overnight guests. We keep the kitchen stocked with all the basics and try to source everything organic or GMO free: olive oil, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, hot sauce, crush red pepper, sea salt, cinnamon, etc. PHOTO SHOOTS: We are open to photoshoots, but this must be disclosed ahead of time as we have a separate location fee.

Rustic Space Perched in the Hollywood Hills

Drink in panoramic city views from Hollywood to the ocean from the freestanding bathtub at a private guest unit nestled in the wooded hillside. Wake up in the cabin-like bedroom and step out onto the sun-drenched terrace for a cup of coffee or tea. Listed in Time Out “Top Airbnb’s in LA” https://www.timeout.com/los-angeles/hotels/best-airbnbs-in-los-angeles An extremely well designed open plan guest unit: complete with queen bed, bathtub & sink, private toilet, small fridge, with inside and outside hang out space and a strong bluetooth speaker for music. Also included is a hot plate, all cooking utensils necessary, a Nespresso machine with pods and an American standard coffee pot with coffee and sugar, a microwave, and filtered drinking water. (the iMac and screen are removed from the desk, and the unit will be delivered with no clutter of any kind. Bring your devices as they will be happy with the blazing fast internet and power ports all over the house, inside and out.) Toilet and sink are located 1 step from the French doors, behind the antler of the main picture of the listing. Fridge also located outside the unit by one step from the opposite french door. Guest unit requires your ability to climb many stairs from the street level, so it is best as a guest you are comfortable with stairs. You may access the exterior day bed shown in the photos and outdoor shower on the walkway up to the guest unit. The guest unit is at the rear of my home with complete privacy. The outdoor shower is shared with the main house. Guests have their own private entrance and exit to the shower from the guest unit. Stairs! It is required you walk up three sets of stairs from the street to access the guest unit in the back of the home. Guests that are comfortable with stairs will have no issues. I am happy to help any guests with their plans while here in the city on their arrival. Afterward I am reachable via email or text throughout your stay to offer any more guidance or help. The guest suite sits on a quiet street, near Franklin Village, restaurants, and the lovely Griffith Park. The neighborhood’s dramatic hills are great for walking, and it’s convenient to Hollywood, Los Feliz, and Silver Lake. Parking is always available on the street in front of the house (and it's FREE) and the local DASH bus is available in a matter of minutes after a short walk down the hill that goes straight to the metro. Renting a car while in LA however is recommended as the city is very large. Many of my guests use Uber as well for its convenience. No Smoking inside the unit. No pets. Outdoor shower is shared with the main house. Location is not conducive for guests with young children.

All about Los Angeles

Los Angeles is the ultimate insider's city, as first-time visitors quickly discover. The sprawl of strip malls and apartment buildings can seem anonymous and daunting until you consult friends or online guides who can direct you to the city’s electric cultural and artistic life. Los Angeles’s racial and ethnic diversity make it one of the most exciting culinary destinations in America, whether your appetite leads you to Korean, regional Mexican, or Persian food. One day may bring you to Venice Beach or the Santa Monica Pier for a stroll, and the next day on a strenuous hike in Topanga Canyon. Downtown Los Angeles’s art museums attract global attention for their forward-thinking collections. You can also spend several days walking — yes, walking — around Silver Lake or Beverly Hills, dipping into boutiques and stopping at cafes.

What are the top things to do in Los Angeles?

Griffith Park

Los Angeles’s biggest park is more of a district, with more than 4,000 acres of trails, attractions, and serene picnic spots. You can wander around the famous Griffith Observatory, the backdrop to dozens of famous movie scenes, or bring your children to the historic Merry-Go-Round carousel. The western edge of the park includes several steep trails climbing to the Hollywood Sign.

Hollywood Walk of Fame

You’re more likely to see a celebrity at some vegan cafe in Silver Lake than here, but the frayed glamour of Hollywood and the Sunset Strip still exerts its charm. Check the schedule to see if the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre is offering tours and screenings, or wander along Hollywood Boulevard, looking down to see whose famous handprints are pressed into the concrete.

The Getty Center

Half of the reason people take the tram up to the Getty is for the museum’s art collections, which favor Greek and Roman statues and European paintings from the medieval era through the 19th century. The other is the setting: You can spend an hour or two meandering through the cultivated gardens, admiring a landscape that stretches to every horizon.
