Places to stay in Kilchreest
Cahercastle has been standing since the late 1400s One needs to be somewhat crazy to be owned by a castle , itsowned me now for 20 years, anyway it is our home its not perfect, so don't expect perfection ,we do have cobwebs and a little dust (so asthma sufferers take note)We endeavour to make your stay as comfortable as possible Please note when making a request to stay please take time to write an introductory message or have an informative profile We look forward to welcoming you Peter / Eva
A beautiful, original medieval castle experience can be yours for a weekend, a week, or even longer. You'll be staying in the master bedroom, the highest room in the castle. This castle has been restored to its original state by using traditional materials, and also by using cutting edge technology. We used traditional local stone, limestone, as well as oak beams, to make the castle as traditional as possible, but it also has modern conveniences, such as solar water heating. The castle was built sometime in the 1400's but was refurbished in the last decade. It is comprised of a master bedroom upstairs, with access to the turret, a living room and dining room, two guest bedrooms, and some storage rooms. I'm Peter, your host, and I spent the last ten years refining and refurbishing the castle - the pictures can attest to how well that has worked out. Two room in the castle are still under construction - the storage room downstairs. Remember, this is a castle that is over 600 years old. That means it's not perfect. Castles were never designed with bathrooms and showers, so we've improvised. You'll have to come downstairs to have a bath which is located in the living room - this is the quirkiest part of the castle. You have full private access to the living room, kitchen , bath and your master bedroom Castles are built with solid stone, so there is a huge fireplace with a cooker to keep the place warm and of course underfloor heating complements of our pet Dragon that lives in the dungeon The castle has lots of quirks, its a great and fun place to stay the night. Galway City is a 25 minute drive from the castle which is a very beautiful city. The castle is around a 20 minute drive from Galway Airport, a 45 minute drive from Shannon Airport and Dublin is two hours away. What to expect: lots of winding staircases, a castle that has been lovingly restored, but there are some cobwebs, and it gives you the real Irish castle experience. It's not pristine, its not perfect, but it's a real castle. There are lots of sheep and cows in the nearby fields - but lots of peace and quiet. This is a very unique place to stay. There's nothing like it around, where you can say that you stayed in an actual castle. It's not a tourist attraction (like Blarney Castle) and it's not pristine like a hotel, but you'll have a great time visiting. You'll need a car. The castle is about two miles from the nearest public transport. (Craughwell has both train and buses running regular schedules) I can help with anything like lighting a fire or answering any of your questions. P.S. as this is our home we like to get an idea of who's coming to stay so please write a message of introduction or have a written profile as we do sometimes decline if we just see a one liner and nothing on a profile so to avoid disappointment fill out your profile
Countryside, farms, cows ,sheep , 3 acre garden, stream , river , trees, And you might see the odd fox, heron, pheasant, rabbit and of course the friendly farmers and neighbours cctv in operation outside the castle
  • Pete was an outstanding host. He spins a great story and sets you up with all you need to stay at a castle and explore surrounding areas. You have the bedroom and living room floors. Pete has done an amazing job recreating this castle with a ton of detail from medieval times and enough modern amenities to make a truly unique experience. I can't recommend this stay enough. Easily my favorite Air BnB stay.

  • What a magical way to kick off our stay in Ireland! It literally felt like we were back in medieval ages, but with quirky, modern touches! Peter and Eva are so great!!!!! And we loved their sweet little cat! We want to come back and stay longer again!

  • A truely amazing night. The castle is adorable, quirky and a one of a kind experience! We totally loved our stay.

  • It was even better than we expected. We couldn’t stop oohing and aahing at all of the neat architecture and details. Peter and Eva were so kind and welcoming. This place was definitely the highlight of our trip to Ireland.

  • Pete's castle is definitely not to be missed! Pete and Eva are excellent hosts and fantastic people, and the castle is so much fun. Do yourself a favor and book at least one night if it is available during your holiday timeframe!

    Alicia2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • I can't remember exactly where I came across this castle ABnB, but I am so glad I did!! We booked a few months in advance to ensure we wouldn't miss out. Our stay here was not only one of the best parts of our time in Galway, but a highlight on our entire holiday in Ireland. We had everything we needed. The rooms and beds clean & comfortable. Despite being surrounded by stone, you will feel warm & cozy here. Peter was an amazing host and prompt in all of or communications. He, also, happened to be a joy to speak with.

    Jessica2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • To experience the friendliness and heritage of Ireland, you have to stay here at Pete’s Castle. What an amazing experience and Pete is a wonderful host.

Bookeen Hall is a 200 year old church about 20 minutes from Galway City and within easy reach of the Cliffs of Moher, The Burren and Connemara. We offer a private room (with a king size bed and a single bed) with a private bathroom. For larger groups we can make a second room available (with a king size bed), so can accommodate up to 5. We live here with our two dogs and look forward to meeting you! We recommend having a rental car. The nearest train station is 8 miles away in Athenry!
A protected building and national monument, Bookeen Hall is a former Church of Ireland Chapel built in 1820. Part of the Dunsandle estate, the church was used for services by the estate’s Church of Ireland congregation. Built in stone, the rectangular hall with its large gothic windows and solid bell-tower can be seen across fields and woodland, making it a distinctive and well known local landmark. It was deconsecrated in 1920 and 200 years after it was built it was given a new lease of life and converted into a two bedroom home. Inside the interiors are bright, open and contemporary. The church is comprised of a large open plan living/dining room and two bedrooms. The guest bedroom available to visitors has access to its own bell tower/reading room with great views of the surrounding countryside and private bathroom complete with claw-foot bathtub. The guest room has a king size bed and a single bed and can accommodate three people. Bookeen Hall is situated on the edge of Dunsandle wood which has some great walking and running routes, which your hosts, both keen runners, would be happy to show you. Quiet and peaceful, it is surrounded by woodland, and fields full of cattle and sheep. Easily accessible by car, Bookeen Hall is just 2 mins from the Dublin / Galway motorway (Dublin airport is 2 hours away); about 1 hour from Shannon airport; a 20 min drive from beautiful Galway city; and located just a 10 min drive from the neighbouring towns of Athenry and Loughrea, both of which have a good selection of cafes, restaurants, and bars, and good public transport links. The church is ideally located for day trips to Connemara and the Cliffs of Moher and Burren region. Enjoy our home baking with tea/coffee when you arrive and a continental breakfast each morning. We are happy to cater for all dietary requirements but please let us know any allergies or preferences in advance. What to expect: a restored church – with a light, bright and homey feel to it. It’s also home to a greyhound called Mouse and a lurcher called Birdy who can’t wait to meet you!
  • What a great night. Amazing hospitality, swoon-worthy locale, a full breakfast and two cuddly pups. What more could you want?

  • Amazing place. Perfectly clean and secure. Breakfast every morning was great. I got to know the area very well and this place was one of the best airBNBs you can possibly stay at in Ireland. They took me to the train station and picked me up. I also got local tips and got to take the dogs for a walk! Would stay here again one day!

    Dominick2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot rate this Airbnb enough. Its a fantastic place to stay, stylish and cosy (we stayed mid storms). Ours hosts were very accommodating and the breakfast sublime. The church has been tastefully converted and in keeping with its heritage. Directions from the host are very accurate and easy to follow. If your lucky you will meet the two dogs as well. Highly recommended, would love to stay again.

    Bob2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Lovers of history and nature would just adore this. The house/church is beautifully and tastefully renovated, and the hosts are warm and welcoming. Joggers, walkers, cyclists, and dog lovers would especially feel right at home! The room is spacious and light, and has old stairs up to the top of the old steeple with a reading spot. You also have a private bathroom with shower and a tub. The breakfast was delicious and a wonderful point to start the rest of our journey on. I highly recommend them! We will definitely be back.

The cosy wooden cabin sleeps 3 people and is 30 m from the main house away that has 2 bedrooms for 4 people. TOILET AND SHOWER IN MAIN HOUSE. Generous Breakfast included. A haven of relaxation!
The cabin has space for 3 people, there is a double and 1 single bed, solid fuel stove, running water and some cooking facilities. Toilet and shower are in the main house as is TV/internet. The place is very quiet and peaceful. The wooden cabin is located 30 m from the the main house. Breakfast is served in the main house and there is great emphasis on nice organic fresh food; a lot of it is produced on the farm or fairly traded.

  • I am so touched by the hospitality and warmth of my stay with Josef and Helga. My time staying on their land and getting to know them was perhaps the highlight of my three weeks in Ireland. I stayed a total of a week with them (with a small intermission to pop up to Connemara). I stayed in both the cabin and the main house. The cabin is exactly what I had hoped for when I found it on Airbnb -- cozy, private, warmed by a wood stove. The cabin's kitchen has everything needed to prepare meals, which also makes the cabin a place that one can completely retreat into if that's desired. I enjoyed my stay in the house just as much. I appreciated having the sitting room to journal and read my book. I loved being near to Josef and Helga's comings and goings, tending to the stoves, feeding the cows, preparing meals, enjoying a cup of tea in the other room. Their company, both in conversation with them, and in the distant awareness of them moving through the house, was so very sweet. Josef and Helga are very, very special human beings. I'll let you find out for yourself what I mean. Perhaps my biggest endorsement of Josef's B&B is that after a week I left reluctantly. There is no doubt in my mind that I will return, and I so look forward to that time. And though it hardly bears mentioning considering its overwhelming reputation, Josef's breakfast is a true treat.

    Claire2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great and perfect stay at Josefs B&B! Josef and Helga are perfect hosts! They are so pleasent and friendly. The cabin is so cozy, homey, unhurried and peaceful! Josef always made me feel comfortable in his cabin: each time I came back from my trips he had started the fire so that the cabin was warm when I came in. They also put beautiful flowers from their garden on "my" table. The breakfast, he prepared, was perfect! You have the choice between irish breakfast or continental breakfast. Both gave me great tips for my trips as well. The cabin is well located so that you can reach a lot of sights - by car! F.e. it takes just a 30 minutes ride to the sea. We also had great evening or morning conversations and they imvited me for tea and cake. Thank you so much for the wonderful time!! Wish you all the best and hope to see you again!

    Tina2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is well equipped. A place to relax and to relax inside. Such nice and open-hearted hosts are rare! The breakfast was delicious with food partly from our own production.

    David2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Josefs wood cabin is a beautiful peaceful escape in idyllic surroundings. He also makes a perfect boiled egg 🤗

    Joy2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • I was looking for a quiet place in the countryside where I could chill out and do some work. Josef’s place was perfect and Josef himself was a total boss. I’ll definitely be back.

    Phil2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Josefs place was exactly what we were looking for and more. Off the beaten track, the beautiful log cabin is nestled amongst the trees and heated by a lovely stove fire which really adds to the experience. The compost toilet is probably nicer than many of the toilets I've experienced in hotels. Our host was fantastic; welcoming, informative and a pleasure to get to know. Brekkie was yummy and Josef took time to cater to our individual needs. My colleague and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending a stay at the cabin; in fact I would urge you to experience this beautiful home and wonderful host. :)

    Amanda2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had to cancel our stay very last-minute unfortunately, Josef was very good about it. We hope that we are able to visit soon!

It's a quiet spot out of town but very near the Aughty hills where you will find some lovely trails if you would like to go hill walking. We are on the route to Thoor Ballylee, Coole Park, Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. In the opposite direction is Loughrea with its famous St Brendan's Cathedral, the beautiful Grey Lake in Loughrea where you can go for a swim when the weather is in.
My home is on the Loughrea side of the village of Kilchreest after the seven eye bridge. It is very near Cloghan Castle which hosts many weddings and events during the year. It is only half an hour from the Galway Races and if you are not into the hustle and bustle of the city during race week, it is ideally situated for easy access to the course each day.It is near Loughrea and easy to find as it is on the main N66 road. It is very easy to get taxis around here to the nearest towns. I live there full time so the whole house is not for letting.
The property is situated just inside the border of the Burren Lowlands. It is set back from the road on approximately 10 acres of land. The Owenshee river runs along the end of the land which is a nice quiet place to relax and listen to the birds in the trees and the water flowing by slowly in the summer. The sliabh Aughty mountains are very near the house and has lots if walkways and paths to choose from . Woodville walled in garden is walking distance and is a beautiful place rich in history and a very peaceful place to visit . Thoor Ballylee in Peterswell the summer home of the famous WB Yeats is just a 15 minute drive from here and another beautiful place to see is Coole Park in Gort. From there you can visit the burrenlowlands with all the beauty that it possesses. Towards loughrea you can visit the very famous St Brendan's Cathedral with its fabulous stain glass windows and architecture . The abbey and all the walks around it are very quaint also. The lake in loughrea is less than a 10 minute drive should you favour a swim during the warm weather and there is also a lovely walkway beside it should you like to stretch the legs for a nice leisurely walk. Loughrea Golf Club is less than a 15 minute drive and Gort Golf Club about a 20 minute drive. Horse Riding can be arranged at Flowerhill Equestrian Centre, Dartfield or Slieve Aughty, all within 1/2 an hour's drive. Dinner at Sullivan's Hotel in Gort is very good and very reasonably priced and they usually serve up until 9pm daily, you can also avail of Dinner at Loughrea Hotel & Spa, The Meadow Court Hotel, Maggie Mays in Loughrea and there is also an Italian, Chinese, & Indian to choose from. The Chinese will delivery to the house.

  • Luisa's house is about 20 minutes by road from Galway. They have a very large house prepared for many guests. She and her son take care of the guests and that everything is to their liking. A highly recommended accommodation with very attentive hosts.

    Miguel2018-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • The hospitality was great, as was the breakfast. It was quiet and the bed was clean and comfortable. We felt content and relaxed as Luisa and her son were very welcoming and pleasant. We would have no hesitation in recommending Luisa’s place to others.

    Edna2018-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was my first time using Airbnb and we loved the experience. Luisa and her family were fantastic hosts. Our first wake up was greeted with a huge Irish breakfast and a warm smile. Luisa put us in touch with her local "historian", Mikey, who was excited to teach us about the area, the history, and our Irish roots. This location is not far from the Cliff's of Moher, Galway, and several other historic attractions. We would definitely stay with Luisa again.

What makes this accommodation special, is its location right by the lakeshore. It is private and peaceful, whilst being just 3 minutes walk from the town centre. All rooms are ensuite and are bright and airy with tv, tea/coffee and mini-fridge. The premises is set in beautiful gardens that look out onto the lake. Guests are welcome to sit out and use the picnic/bbq area. Private off street free parking and bicycle shed. Your host lives in a separate house on the same site.
Lakeside has special offers for guests who are staying for longer periods. This is particularly useful for people who may be working in the area during the week. Before booking, contact your host with details, so as to avail of these special rates. Lakeside is very central, being located beside the Police Station, opposite the Fire Station on Barrack St.
Loughrea, a lively market town (population about 5,000), has a great selection of shops, pubs, restaurants and things to do and see. Loughrea in the Irish language can be translated as Baile Locha Riach which means Town of the Grey Lake. Loughrea people are very proud of their lake. The water quality is excellent. It is one of the few inland lakes to receive the Blue Flag award for its swimming facilities and is one of only 12 wild brown trout fisheries left in Europe. Facilities along its shores include picnic areas, fully accessible walkways, children's playgrounds, adults exercise area and tennis courts. The town itself was founded by the Normans in 1236. A number of medieval features still survive. The most significant is the town moat. This is the only functioning medieval moat in Ireland. Visitors can see it at its best in the beautiful linear park known as The Walks. The interior decoration of St Brendan's Cathedral took place during a time when there was a renewed interest in Celtic art. Its 26 stained glass windows are world renowned. Check out Pallas Karting & Paintball; Turoe Pet Farm; Woodville Walled Garden; Finnerty's Mills; Dartfield Horse Museum
  • Central, comfortable chalet to stay in with a lovely view of the lake. Nice touch with breakfast supplies and electric blanket. Bed very comfortable and excellent cosy duvet.

  • I had the most amazing time in Flagmount wild garden! Brendan and Rachel were the perfect hosts 🤗.Flagmount garden is a spiritual place and I really felt amazing after my time spent there to reflect; spend time in nature and to enjoy serenity and a quiet mind. It is a little patch of heaven and I highly recommend to anyone looking to find themselves again and recharge your batteries 🙏. Thank you so much Brendan and Rachel!!

  • Once again, myself and Martin, we wanted to thank you Brendan! We couldn't imagine a better place to relax and take a deep breathe. The cabin was amazing, with those tiny things (as the books or CD's) which made the place. The view from the cabin was a nice refreshment for us on the morning. We had everything that we wanted and even more.

  • This Is the sort of place I yearn for. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful, safe, warm & private,...it was like a soothing balm & I felt grounded & rested afterwards & I wanted to return before I had even left. Brendan & his family were lovely & welcoming & it's an amazing place. The cabin was a lovely big space, so toasty & comfortable & connected to nature no matter which way you look. Unforgettable experience.

Our house is located in a quiet rural area 5 miles outside Gort. With us, you have plenty of space to relax: outside in the garden or in our cosy house. In the morning you can enjoy a generous breakfast with mainly organic products.
The house is in a very quiet and peaceful location. With the two bedrooms there is space for 4 people. On the farm there is also a wooden cabin that sleeps three. There is great emphasis on nice organic fresh food; a lot of it is produced on the farm or fairly traded.
  • There are no words to define Josef and Helgas place. It is beautiful and cozy settled in gorgeous land with personal and kind touches everywhere. I am so grateful for the conversation and perspective I gained from my chats with Josef and Helga. And not to mention their cooking is delicious! Couldn’t recommend them more, and couldn’t be more grateful to them for making a lone traveler feel at home and welcomed with open arms in Ireland.

    Ellen2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Most wonderful hosts Josef and Helga, of the species that reconcile you with humanity. Very special. The house is welcoming and warm. And the breakfast very thoughtfully prepared and delicious! Cannot recommend enough

  • Have no doubt: you are about to knock on the door of a bio-magician. A very short but unforgettable stay, in a corner of beautiful nature and with exceptional guests. King's breakfast with products patiently and passionately grown in the adjoining garden. A real paradise to visit and where to relax. Many thanks !

  • I had a wonderful stay in Josef’s B&B. Josef & Helga really made me feel welcome and at home - they have a lovely place, surrounded by nature. The house and gardens are beautiful and so peaceful. A great location, that’s also very accessible. And the breakfast is also really good:) Highly recommenced!

    Mairead2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • You hear only birdsong, dusk and dawn! This place is quiet and secluded. You can explore the farm, meet the chickens, and enjoy fresh fruit and veggies grown on the farm. Josef and Helga are terrific conversationalists as well. And the breakfast was divine!

    Cindy2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The house of Josef and Helga is tucked away in a very quiet area. Here the world seems to be in order, automatically I was decelerated here immediately. The house is so lovingly decorated and well maintained, I immediately felt very comfortable. I slept deeply and firmly in the big bed, where I was awakened by the rays of the sun. Josef and Helga are very eager to make the holiday as pleasant as possible, there is nothing to be desired. In doing so, ecological aspects are always taken into account. Anytime I would want to live here again, then like for even more than 3 nights.

Martina even arranged for us to go horseback riding! The castle down the road was a pleasant little hike off the well traveled path of the other more touristy locations. Overall a great experience.

  • WOW! Josef's place to stay is a dream!!! I am absolutely in love with my stay there! I visited for 2 weeks and would recommend any length of stay in this beautiful BNB. There are many highlights for me with my stay! 1- the amazing breakfast spread EVERY MORNING! I'm still dreaming of all the nourishing breakfast's I enjoyed every morning. Fruits and vegetables are picked straight from their garden and they have vegetarian and non-vegetarian options! It was always such a great way for me to start my day having breakfast prepared. 2- Josef & Helga were my second highlight of my stay. They are both warm and welcoming. Very mindful and thoughtful. I enjoyed staying for two weeks and engaging with them at the times I was in the house! Communication was always clear and they offered any local tips I was seeking. 3- the other guests! It was such a joy to meet other guests during my stay there and engage with them if I chose to. 4- the location is great nestled on an organic farm and close to The Burren. 30-60 minute drive depending on where I desired to go that day. All in all a wonderful, great stay! Would recommend to anyone desiring some soul nourishing!

We really enjoyed the lovingly and thoughtfully prepared breakfasts with fresh eggs from their own hens and blueberries/raspberries from their own bushes. We even got a farm tour and very much enjoyed to see the amazing organic polytunnel and wood-fired sauna.

  • Anne was outstanding! The place was so cute and everything had a unique touch. Anne provides you with something to make breakfast with the following morning as well as some yummy treats! We unfortunately stayed one night, but we wish we could be stayed longer! We came to Ireland during the Coronavirus so everything was closed, Anne actually went out of her way to sanitize everything, which made us feel more at ease. The cows were so cute and the food was delicious! Thank you Anne!!

She made us feel really welcome in her space. The house itself has everything you could need. Highly recommended. Thanks a million Anne.

You can work, rest, play, unwind, watch the beautiful sunset with a glass of wine in hand enjoying a bbq and a few tunes........or chill axe and watch a movie on the 55 inch TV screen.......and you can do what you want in the big garden... 20 mins from Galway city and 1 minute down the road there is Rahasane Turlough,650 acres of Pure Nature... Just over an hour away is The Cliffs of Moher 5 mins away from Main Galway to Limerick road 10 mins away from Main Galway to Dublin.... CANT GO WRONG.😉😎
Howdy folks, welcome to my space....A space which is quite,peaceful,healthy,scenic,relaxing.......and if you want the opposite,it can be that too.....and it's just outside the picturesque village of Craughwell,13 miles from Galway and a railway station only 1.5 miles away which will have you in Galway City in under 25 mins......and my fav part is that's its 2mins from The Rahasane Turlough(winter lake) 700 acres of unspoiled nature reserve, with a crystal clear river (Dunkellin) running through it... Boasting unique fauna, the turlough is of major ecological significance as one of only 2 Turloughs which function naturally in Ireland.... If you have what you might think is a big problem.....it will become only a small problem after a few hours in the Turlough...
Quite and all you will hear is nature...

    David2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Myself, my wife and three kids stayed in the yellow house as we like to call it. We were greeted by Damien’s mother who was a lovely lady and was very helpful. The house was just perfect, it was very spacious for us all and the kids loved the massive back garden to run around on. The patio with comfy chairs outside was a real treat to just relax with a glass of wine at night. Galway city is only about 20-25mins away. Damien was very helpful and texted every so often to see if we needed anything.

    Philip2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent place....house is deceptively large...4 comfy double rooms. Nice modern feel on a classic rural house....Damien is great host who met us on arrival and had the fire on (literally!)...cannot fault the place!

  • This house is a gem. Located in a quiet area outside of Galway city, easy to find & ideal for visiting the Wild Atlantic Way, the Burren, Galway City & anywhere else that takes your fancy. We wanted somewhere to chill out for the weekend with our dog & found exactly what we were looking for. Damien was extremely friendly, responded quickly to any communication & couldn’t have been more helpful. We found the house & garden to be really well kitted out for relaxing indoors & out. And for self catering. The additional touches of breakfast & home baked good were lovely too (& delicious). Overall we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to friends, family & anyone looking for a cosy, comfortable stay and we would definitely consider returning ourselves. Thanks Damien!

  • Great place to stay. A beautiful rural area. So peaceful! 30 mins to get into Galway. The Irish soda bread home made by Damien’s mum Moira was the best I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommended.

    Angela2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay looking forward to a return visit. Lovely extra touches which meant a lot the fridge was stocked with milk, butter etc and Damien’s mom had baked us a delicious apple pie and a brown soda bread which was much appreciated. Like a home away from home. Highly recommended!!!

    Paul2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a really quiet place this is the place to go. Damien is so helpful and his mother bake us an Irish bread and apple pie(bonus)! Thanks again Damien!

    Noel2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Kate’s peaceful Chalet was absolutely beautiful. Staying in country Ireland led us to have an experience of the friendly and kind nature of the Irish people, the beautiful green land and was a great location for us to do day trips to the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands and Newgrange. We stayed with Kate for a month and were instantly warmed by her friendly nature and hospitality. Kate has great knowledge of her home country and is passionate about Ireland and all it has to offer so she is perfect to give recommendations of sites to visit. The chalet instantly felt like home to us and we loved having our own place to prepare food. We read many a book and when the weather permitted we saw many a sunset out of our window. If you are looking for a peaceful, picturesque home to stay in we would highly recommend Kate’s.

  • Super clean, super cosy with everything you need to feel at home for days or longer. The best accommodation we had in Ireland. Thank you for everything Niamh.

    Hermann2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed here for a little under a month while I was working in Ennis and it was so ideal. I had a lovely experience staying here which added to my work experience. Niamh was truly an amazing host and always so helpful and accommodating, leaving the fridge topped up with water, fresh fruit, milk etc. I thoroughly enjoyed coming back here every day after work, it was such a cosy room and one I could easily spend hours chilling out in. Everything was so comfortable, I genuinely can't praise this stay enough. 10/10 would absolutely recommend. From here I managed to take in ennis, limerick, the burren, gort and galway city. It was a suitable location and hopefully one I may come back to in the future.

    Olwen2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed so well in Niamh’s house! It’s very confortable and quiet, and She is a very kind woman, so we highly recommend her home :)

    Nicoletta2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The only regret I had with Niamh's place was not finding it sooner...! My own private entrance left to a great big room which was immaculate with my own en suite, a large TV, a fridge, tea and coffee and fresh fruit...as well as water, juice and milk in the fridge...I was extremy comfortable Lots of leaflets for local attractions and easy communication with Niamh for any other queries Would thoroughly recommend using this place for anyone in the area and hope to use it again myself in the near future

    Steve2019-12-02T00:00:00Z

  • This is one of the best Airbnb's on the wilde Atlantic way we have used, you have your own entrance to a beautiful room, spacious and yet with a cosy atmosphere. Everything was super clean, a very comfortable bed and a lovely spacey apartment feel. There was a desk in the corner where I worked on my laptop and also there is a TV for relaxing. The breakfast corner was generously supplied with a kettle for tea, coffee, milk, orange juice, bottles of water, cereal bars, yougherts and fruit, everything you could wish for! Don't hesitate booking here, you won't regret it.

It’s very convenient for both The Burren and Galway and the Yeats/Lady Gregory Coole Park is only a short distance away. James also recommended some great restaurants. I’m planning when I can return!

  • You will be delighted with this special place to lay your head while in the Galway area. The sound of cows out the windows was lovely in the morning while enjoying the provided Nespresso coffee and tasty breakfast treats. The crackling, romantic wood fire was so lovely to enjoy. This was just the kind of quaint home we looked forward to staying in during our stay in Ireland, and provided the added bonus of a separate bedroom which we could not find at a traditional B&B. Thank you James and Ciara for a lovely stay! Best wishes.

    Matt2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Very lovingly decorated cottage. Super Cute Landlords. James turned on the stove every night. No moisture or mold at all despite the old masonry. Everything sparkling clean and very good and high quality equipment. Great view. Clear 5 stars.

The Old Schoolhouse was built in 1850, and has been beautifully restored. It's got a long and rich history, dating back to the Irish Famine. My dad went to school here, we lived in it as a family growing up and I wanted to share some of the history of the buildng with visitors. It's been updated with fast (150mb) fiber internet, and it's very cozy and warm. Welcome to Ganty!
This school has taught generations of local children who went to school here from 1850 to when it closed in the 60’s. One of those children, my Dad, went on to buy the property and raised his family here, including myself. I bought our family home from my Dad in 2006 and my wife and I have transformed it into a modern, functional warm home. We have the school inspectors’ reports which date back to 1850 which show how school inspectors tried to improve the way pupils were taught. The space is unique in that it's one of the only old school buildings in the region. It has a lot of great features, such as a warm pelletstove, wooden countertops, modern kitchen equipment, fast broadband (150 Mb), and very beautiful scenery. It's the perfect getaway for working couples or people who want a countryside location for a retreat.
Ganty is about a mile from Craughwell, a village with a few pubs, shops and a cafe. Galway is only about 20 minutes away, and there are rivers, lakes and even old castles to explore.
  • We had a lovely week here and would highly recommend it. The house was gorgeous, sparkling clean. Would return.

    Kris2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts did aovely job on the restoration and it was lovely to see an old schoolhouse restored in such a contemporary yet sensitive manner. The wood pellet stove and especially alexa and the bathroom facilities are top class. The en suite bathroom is open plan to the master bedroom which took us a bit by surprise. The house was lovely and warm the whole time and no shortage of hot water. The entire house was spotless, the bed was very comfortable and it felt like home away from home. It is ideally located for sight seeing in Galway and neighbouring countries. I would highly recommend it.

The cabin itself is absolutely lovely, lots of small touches and ammenities that will suit family's or couples, all our needs were met and I can't think of anything it could be missing. We stayed during the winter and the cabin was easily heated and we loved the stove, really adds a level of coziness that can't be beat by other accommodation. Quiet and relaxing location with area next to cabin for nature conservation. Very kind hospitality, good communication, easy check in. Shops an a nice pub serving good food a short drive away. Nothing to fault, would love to have stayed longer.

  • The accommodation from Alan we really liked. The cabin has everything it needs -Living room, well-equipped kitchen, sparkling clean bathroom and cozy bedrooms. Alan we did not meet, but he was always available and answered within a few minutes. The cottage is secluded in the countryside, perfect for a relaxing holiday.

  • Gort was a beautiful&peaceful town. If you have a car/a bike or love a nice walk, you can fully enjoy the town! And it was easy to navigate. You don’t have to worry about getting lost. There are 2 supermarket and several other stores. Local restaurants and pubs were cozy and delicious. Heidi&Kris were such pleasant hosts! They were kind enough to give me a lift from the bus stop when I first arrived in Gort. They also taught me many local restaurant/pub tips. I was glad that I asked them because the places they recommended were nice. The place I stayed was clean and cozy. The room and the bathroom were spacious. Hot water ran all day and I could get rid of daily fatigue anytime. There was a window where fresh air came in and out. I would like to stay here if I visit Galway again next time.

  • The stay was amazing and plenty of room. Having privacy and space for myself and two teens is very important. Location is great, just close enough but also far enough away from everything. Will return once everything calms down.

  • This place is spectacular. It's spotless and very spacious. There's a nice view of fields outside your window and you can go out onto the balcony! It's a nice drive (a little less than 30 minutes) into Galway. You walk in to a lovely kitchen, seating area, and the bathroom. Up the winding staircase are two small beds, two futons, and a nice big bed with enough space to accommodate plenty of people!

  • We spent two pleasant nights in Finola's apartment. Everything is perfect, very clean and very quiet. The room is beautiful and our son had a lot of fun with the games and especially with the three little brown bears. Finola was very responsive to our questions and very attentive. We highly recommend this address. Thanks again to Finola for everything.

  • We spent 2 enjoyable nights at Finola's. The place is immaculately clean and inviting. Was lovely and warm, and breakfast inclusion was great. Porridge was a great start to very cold days. We have no hesitation in recommending Finola's place for a warm stay.

  • Ursula's B&B is located by a lovely lake and the room is spacious and comfortable. You can make coffee and tea in your room and outside the room there's a mini-fridge with all you need for breakfast. Communication was perfect, we arrived late and Ursula welcomed us in the kindest way. Thank you!

My place is close to Craughwell village. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, the comfy bed, the kitchen. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). We are approx. 25km from Galway city and 4km from the village of Craughwell, so a car is essential.
