  • Tracey’s apartment is really cosy with stunning views from the decked area outside. The bed is comfy and there’s a gorgeous free standing bath. Tracey provides a lovely breakfast and a variety of hot drinks, and there are beautiful walks and places of interest in the area. Would recommend!

  • Great stay a 10 min walk from Ynyshir restaurant, Tracey is a great host where nothing is too much trouble, even offering to let us stay an extra night due to the storm. A small fridge came stocked with lots of bits for breakfast and a Welsh cake on arrival. We were also able to charge our electric car on site and the annex comes with its own private entrance

    Paul2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey was a fantastic host, we couldn't have asked for more! We were visiting the area to go to Ynyshir restaurant which is just up the road, arrived late on Thursday evening and Tracey was very welcoming, offering to pick us up from Machynlleth station. The annex is beautiful with stunning views from the terrace. Nicely decorated and lots of amenities such as fridge, kettle, toaster etc. There was fantastic breakfast selection including fresh bread, yoghurt, granola, jams and marmalades etc. a good selection of teas and coffee. We stayed for 3 nights and were able to shut off and relax in a cosy atmosphere. Tracey was kind and accommodating, giving us a lift to the restaurant and to the station to catch our train ride back to London. There is also a bus stop directly outside the front door which takes you to Aberystwyth one way and Machynlleth the other. Beautiful walking trails right from the door. We'd definitely stay again if we were back in the area!

  • Lovely cosy annex. We stay here over the weekend to visit Ynyshir restaurant which was only a 3 mins drive away. Tracy was great at communicating and we’ve had no problems checking in despite arriving after midnight.

  • Lovely quiet spot down on the Dyfi estuary. Highly recommended

    Phil2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Tracey is very friendly and the annex was great (especially the views from the balcony). There's loads to do locally and it's handy to the Mach Loop, which is well worth a visit if you're interested in aircraft. Would definitely recommend.

Welcome to Ty Capel, a small traditional stone built Chapel House in the village of Furnace in the heart of the Dyfi Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty here in mid west Wales, within easy walking distance of Ynys-Hir RSPB reserve, Ynyshir Restaurant and the Wales Coast path and a short drive to the stunning beach at Ynyslas. I invite you to please read all the info below and glance through all the pictures as this will help you decide whether this is the right space for you.
Ty Capel, is a traditional stone built Chapel House situated in the village of Furnace in the heart of the stunning Dovey Valley, mid west Wales. The house adjoins a former Welsh Presbyterian chapel both built in 1868. The Ty Capel is a rustic and quirky house and I made the decision not to 'modernise' the space as such. Whilst the space provides all the basics it does not offer an array of mod cons! However, it has bundles of character and charm... many guests have commented that they have loved the house for its simplicity and unadorned nature. I do make a huge effort to clean and check the house before each guest arrives, however due to the age of the house and some of its feature like the wooden ceiling beams I do occasionally miss the odd little bit of dust and cob web! Whilst I mop the wooden kitchen floor and slate tiles before every visit, please appreciate that there are some marks due to ware and tear of footfall. Ty Capel accommodates up to 4 guests offering a spacious double bedroom full of charm, and a small twin bedroom with stunning views over the Dyfi valley. The bedrooms (and whole house) has central heating...but please be aware that during the spring/summer the heating is on a fixed timer...it comes on early morning to late morning, then off during the middle of the day, then comes on late afternoon to 10pm, the off during the night. There are small heaters in the bedrooms if needed and of course you can use the wood burning stove in the living room if you are still up and it feels a bit chilly(see below). The bathroom is light and airy with bath and shower (please note the shower is above the bath and has a shower curtain). Large cotton bath towels are provided for each guest.. I provide a selection of shampoos and shower gels (including a selection of vegan shower gels). The Kitchen is basic...I prefer rustic! (there are no modern fitted kitchen units, rather some quirky free standing furniture including a lovely wooden kitchen table) with a beautiful view over the Dyfi valley hills and has all you need to cook up a meal after a day out. There is a lovely living room with a log burning stove, perfect to relax in front of after a days walking/exploring. I will leave you a large basket full of logs. If you need more logs you are welcome to take them from the log store outside by the front door, however I would appreciate a donation of £4 per extra basket full. (Thank you) Guests are welcome to use the back garden but please note that apart from steps down to a seating area the garden is rather 'wild' ! Whilst I try to maintain the area around the seating and have planted flowers, other areas of the garden have been left alone (apart from some cleared little paths.)... to provide a home to an abundance of wildlife. The Ty Capel welcome families with children, however, we do ask that you supervise young children at all times bearing in mind the following; The living room has a wood burning stove which can get extremely hot to touch (I will provide a fire surround for extra safety). The Ty Capel is situated on the side of the A487 road so be aware of passing traffic. The back garden is a little uneven and leads down to a river so take care, especially on the river side rock outcrop as it is very uneven and can be slippery. Off street parking is available immediately outside Ty Capel. A tip for parking... Try to pull into the space (it is like a little courtyard space) so you can then park longways in it, i.e. parallel to the road, as this will enable you to pull out again without having to reverse out into the road. But no worry, there is enough room (however which way you have parked) to do a two or three point manoeuvre so as to head out again without reversing onto the road, which can be a bit tricky. PLEASE NOTE, the Ty Capel is on the A487 so do expect some road noise. Furnace is a small village nestled on the southern side of the Dyfi/Dovey valley. Furnace (Ffwrnais) takes its name from the Dyfi furnace used from the 1750's to the 19th Century to make pig iron and charcoal as fuel. One can explore the Furnace building and its waterwheel, get close to the waterfall or take a wander up one of the lanes which leads up to the Wales coast path and Cwm Einion also known as Artists Valley (Turner is said to have spent time painting here). The RSPB Ynys- Hir is a short walk (under 20 mins) from the Ty Capel along a pleasant lane and the Dyfi Osprey project centre is a 6 minute drive away. The stunning Ynylas beach and Dyfi estuary, part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve, is 20 min drive from the village. During your stay, I, the host may often, but not always, be staying in the neighbouring Capel, however when I do I will let you know in advance and give you total privacy during your stay.
Hills, mountains, lanes, reservoirs, marsh land, and beaches makes this area a ramblers and bird watchers paradise; set off from the Ty Capel up the hill lane where you can join up with the Wales Coast Path within 5 mins or journey further on up Artists valley (it is said that Turner visited and painted here) to visit the wonderful Blaeneinion beaver conservation/permaculture project. The historic market town of Machynlleth (Ancient capital of Wales and the Southern gateway to The Snowdonia National Park) is a short 10min drive away, has many lovely little shops and cafe's, plus a short distance north of the town is the world renowned CAT - Centre of Alternative technology. Market day is on every Wednesday and is always worth a visit. Also it is home to the Mach comedy festival. An area I love is Borth and Ynyslas, 12min drive (but the short train journey from Dovey Junct. is stunning). Aberystwyth is a 20 min drive from here; from a sunset stroll along the sea-front promenade, having a drink on the pier whilst watching the amazing starling murmuration , or journeying up Constitution Hill. I highly recommend a trip to Aberystwyth Arts Centre coupled with a trip to the National Library of Wales (they both boast stunning views over Aberystwyth town and the bay). There is so much do and see in the area all easily accessible from Ty Capel; Devils Bridge, Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway, Red Kites at Nant-Yr-Arian, Butterfly House..... Further afield but reachable within 1hr; Oriel Davies Gallery (Newtown), Harlech Castle, Cardigan.
  • Lovely place, exactly as described, perfect for a weekend getaway

    Matthew2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A real period cottage. Cosy and warm. The period features really make this place and although it is on the main road it wasn't noisy and the nearby scenery is very special. Very enjoyable stay.

    Simon2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • What an unusual little gem this is. Set in a tiny, pretty village, this cosy cottage is attached to an old chapel. The house is delightfully ancient and creaky but decked out with all modern amenities you need for a short stay. The bed was very comfortable, with a top-notch duvet and loads of extra blankets. Avi was a perfect host who left plenty of wood for the wood burner, lots of tea, coffee and milk and even umbrellas, torches and high viz jackets for the adventurous walker to borrow. It's literally around the corner from Gareth Ward's famous Ynyshir restaurant so a great base if you're treating yourself to a meal there. Avi even left us a hand-drawn map of the best routes to take to get there - by car or on foot.

  • Lovely, quaint cottage ideally located for ynyshir hall!!

    Gareth2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • Avi is very responsive and helpful and this is a lovely place. You will be very lucky to stay. Simple and comfortable and cosy and restful. Sometimes when you go and stay at an airbnb you can tell that the host hasn't stayed in their own place. Not so here. Just what you need, where you need it. And then a fascinating collection of books to rummage through and inspire you too. All of this very close to Machynlleth with Aberystwyth not so far away either. Closer to hand - only 3 minutes drive away - is an excellent local arts and community centre which has a café and a shop that can provide you with all the tasty food and drink you might like. A little further is the long beach and dunes at Ynyslas, but there's also the stunning waterfall and views of the hills right where you are. We hope to return soon. Thanks again!

  • This place is lush - characterful, comfy, clean, welcoming, with everything you need. Absolutely wonderful place to spend a couple of nights, we'll be back! Diolch yn fawr Avi.

    Michael2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • We have a wonderful stay at Ty Capel. Avi was great with pre-arrival communication. The place is amazing. Surprisingly warm for a stone-walled building. The wood burner gave the place a fantastic atmosphere. Try and stay long enough to enjoy the amazing collection of books. Thank you for a memorable adventure.

  • We had an amazing stay. The past few days has been bliss, I didn’t want to leave! Probably the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in and it’s amazing how well insulated the cabin is! Lovely little touches and amazing views. I’ll be back another time, for sure, hopefully this summer 🤞🏻

  • What a way to cut off from the world and relax, loved the fact that there was very limited phone connection. We met Woody as we pulled up to check in and that is all we saw of our hosts but we knew they were there if we needed anything else. We didn't want to leave.... Thank you.

    Helena2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful well appointed cabin with excellent hosts. Hubby and I were able to completely relax in this idyllic private setting - a wonderful ‘getaway’ place, I really hope to go again.

  • A beautiful warm and cosy cabin surrounded by fantastic scenery. We had car troubles on our way to the cabin and ended up stranded a mile up the road. Woody was beyond helpful and helped us get back up and running whilst still ensuring that we had a relaxing weekend. Fantastic get away with great hospitality.

    Clarissa2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Really cute and cosey cabin nestled away into the tree covered hills of artists valley! We walked there and managed to do so without getting lost so is pretty easy to find, easy access to the coastal or hill walks whichever takes your fancy! Even in November the cabin stays nice and warm, we had a mixture of amazing and awful weather and it made for a great little base to come back to! Also love the attention to environmental impact with a compost toilet that feeds their flowers. Overall really pleased and is perfect for a get away from the city!

  • We found the Schoolmasters House to be ideally located for exploring the west coast and north of Wales. Although it's next to an A road it's not a heavily trafficked route and we found it a quiet and relaxing place during our stay. The bedrooms, bathroom and living rooms are generously sized, very clean and there are stunning views to the rear, especially from the bathroom. Ian and Del were very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area and we were made to feel very welcome. We would recommend the Schoolmasters House to anyone looking to explore the area.

    David2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolute fantastic stay at Ian and Del's house. They were so helpful in the run- up to our stay, making sure they provided everything we needed. The house itself is brilliant - we were two families and could probably have stayed here a week or two easily without feeling that we were in each other's pockets. Very well equipped kitchen. Beautiful location. I highly recommend staying here!

Located in the stunning and remote 'Artists Valley' (with Beavers) this charming Self Contained Space is in a 75 acre conservation and permaculture site. With unparalleled views, an ideal base for walking, enjoying nature and rural family retreats.
Further update due to the current health crisis - 23rd March 2020 We have received notification today from our local council that given the unprecedented surge in tourism to the area, they are asking that we curb ‘holidaymakers’ coming into our community at this time. This is a broad measure through the County to slow the spread of the virus and ensure that our local NHS services are not swamped by folk leaving the cities. The volume of 'temporary' registrations with GP's and local hospitals is risking peoples lives in this rural area :0( I am so sorry for all the reservations we have had to cancel as I know that you were really looking forward to your holidays with us! We will however be offering a small handful of LONG TERM retreats (2 weeks minimum) in our accommodations. We will have firm guidelines around anyone staying here to self-isolate longer term to protect our local community. This will mean NO day trips out (other than enjoying walks, paddling and fires from the cottage) We are coordinating shopping so that one designated person does that and will 'decontaminate' on return to site. Please get in touch if that may be of interest to you and you wish to discuss this in more detail. We send our very warmest wishes at this challenging time and hope that you and yours stay strong, eat well, get plenty of rest and keep smiling! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coronavirus Considerations Updated 19 March 2020 What interesting times As we find ourselves faced with the current challenges surrounding the spread of the virus, there are understandable concerns about travel and contact with others. Although many hosts may be negatively impacted, this project is a perfect place to 'self-isolate' if that's what folk are after - as there is so much space here, hardly any people – (who can easily be avoided if that is your preference) and Blaeneinion is waaay more beautiful than being ‘stuck’ nearly anywhere else! I anticipate that folk will choose to holiday in the UK rather than in Europe this year and will be discerning about how to do that safely. We are one of the few places where folk can come and be assured of a holiday in nature with lots to do and without any crowds! We are keeping a close eye on recommendations from the WHO and wanted to reassure our guests of the precautionary measures that we are taking at this time. What we are doing…… Currently our family and long term volunteers are well and healthy. We have taken the decision to continue hosting, working and laughing - and we all look forward to spending as much time as possible in the gardens this Spring Everyone at Blaeneinion is avoiding ANY travelling and will be here at all times other than one person who will shop for essentials only when absolutely necessary at very anti-social hours! We aim to have all groceries and materials delivered through the post or by delivery services to spare contact with others and mitigate any risk or additional strain on the NHS of more patients at this difficult time. Should anyone on site become unwell, we have measures to isolate them for sleeping and living – and they would have no contact at all with guests and only distanced essential contact with others on site. Our accommodations will be kept fastidiously clean and all the team will be washing hands (and accommodation) in antibacterial cleaner frequently. Hugs and handshakes are off the menu for the time being, and when guests arrive, I would be happy to point out the interesting bits on site (at a reasonable distance) and make sure that folk are comfortable and know how everything works in the Cottages. We have produced laminated guides on how to use all equipment on site. All bed linens, towels and fabrics will be washed at a minimum of 60 degrees. Our team have been briefed that DEEP cleaning of the cottages is essential right now and we have purchased specialised sanitising cleaners for all surfaces. In particular, door and window handles, switches, remote controls and communal areas will receive special attention. Anti-bacterial hand soap and sanitising sprays will be available in all Cottages for guests to use as well What you can do……. If you are feeling at all unwell or have recently been in contact with someone who is, please be responsible and let us know. Try to bring as much of your essential supplies with you when you arrive – this will limit the need to go shopping and minimise contact with others in confined spaces protecting you, us and our local community. Please DO NOT come to us on public transport for the time being. This is an idyllic and SAFE retreat! Let’s all keep it that way. Ideally, pack everything you need for your holiday into you OWN car, drive directly to us and please limit any stops en route and social or public visits off site whilst you are here. You can still visit beaches, climb mountains, go on amazing walks, use the kayaks and enjoy the gardens and produce…. Your children can safely play away from others on the swings, cuddle the animals, make fires outdoors and go paddling….. If you do need to shop for supplies or make essential visits, please be mindful to protect our local community and use the hand sanitisers provided and observe social distancing. WE DO NOT WANT YOU BRINGING THE VIRUS BACK TO US! xxx Please observe sensible measures around hand washing and hygiene when on site to minimise transferring the virus to others if you are carrying it unknowingly (we will provide soap or please feel free to bring your own) Should you prefer to bring your own bedding and towels, we would welcome that and would not be offended (and any toilet roll, pasta and rice would be a bonus too! ) Please be mindful of social distancing and shaking hands. In addition, it may be prudent to communicate as much as possible through the message thread online instead of popping by for things… we are really happy to help and will make sure you have what you need x As a courtesy to other guests, please make sure that you wash all your dishes, cutlery and utensils in HOT soapy water. All that being said – LIFE must and will go on and there is so much to be joyful about and thankful for! Lets all make sure we stay healthy, eat well, get plenty of rest and have a lovely time! Smiling, caring, compassion and joy is very good for the heart and immune system too xxx For folk choosing a longer term stay to avoid the mayhem – there are opportunities to engage with the activities on site, learning about green building, conservation and vegetable growing. Warmest wishes form the team - we hope to see you (safely) soon! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are happy to visit respectfully and abide by these guidelines, read on; This cosy Cottage is centrally heated with radiators which are on constantly (please let us know if you are too warm!), is well insulated and gets lovely and homely. There is also a heater in the bathroom :) Upstairs, there is a very large bedroom than can sleep up to 5 (very good!) friends or a young family but is better suited to couples. In the bedroom there is a hand basin with hot running water, a wardrobe and chest of drawers for you to use. The double bed has an electric blanket and there is a TV (which you can chose to completely ignore!) with freesat channels and a DVD player. Wifi is available in the beautiful Breakfast Room next door - and there is an (moody!) ethernet connection upstairs in the Cottage itself (please bring a laptop with an Ethernet port) but there is a good Wifi signal in both the Gazebo and the Breakfast room. Our connection here at the end of the Valley can on occasion, be temperamental - so just in case, best not to rely on it for life and death situations... but it is normally more than adequate to check emails, download films and make internet video calls. We hope that you will be so busy enjoying the stunning natural landscape that you may forget the internet - just for a moment xxx ;) There is no washing machine in the Cottage, but for those on longer stays (5 days or more), please ask at the main house, and we would be happy to help - £10 for a service wash and dry x The double bed is made up with fresh linens for each stay and extra blankets are supplied in abundance. Linens and towels will be changed once a week for folk on longer stays. If you require additional bedding, sheets and pillowcases etc (for larger groups using the extra sofa bed etc.), we are happy to do so (although they will most likely not match at all!) for a laundry fee of £6 per person. Although there is no open fire in Narnia itself, directly opposite the South facing door is a stunning octagonal glass Gazebo, with a comfy sofa and wood- burning stove - you would have sole use of the Gazebo when you book Narnia! 10 metres from your door, it is a gorgeous space to sit and read, do your emails, share bottle of wine, muse over a jigsaw, knit something or chat indoors.... but outdoors at the same time ;) ...................and it really does get toasty in there in winter with the fire going! - we can provide you with some nice dry wood - please ask for details. It is an amazing place to be in crazy weather! - right in the middle of it, yet warm and dry all at once :) Please note that although the Gazebo is lovely, it is an outdoor structure and the floor can get damp after heavy rain (but the sofa stays dry!) and although we do suck up spider webs regularly, there will always be a few :) The Gazebo is supplied with some dry firewood but we charge £10 per barrow load if you need more. In addition to exploring the whole Permaculture and Conservation site, you would also be able to make the most of our new 'Breakfast Room' - a 10 metre Conservatory with glass on 3 sides, tables and chairs to sit at and comfy sofas at the other end. This gorgeous space is for use by everyone at Blaeneinion and is perfect to relax in or check emails on wetter days - please see the photos :) There are lots of plants, a stereo system, some childrens toys (wooden train set has been a big hit!) jigsaws, a piano and a growing and eclectic mixture of books to enjoy. It is a great spot to enjoy looking out at the stars in the evening or enjoying a glass of wine after a long days walking and exploring :) The breakfast room is super-hot on Summer days and comfortably warmed by even the merest sunshine even in Winter.... the stone wall internally retains heat like a big storage heater well into the evenings. Please ask if you would like eggs or fresh produce produced on site (chickens lay much less in Winter though x) For young families -please let us know if need to borrow our travel cot :) Please note that the £7 per night surcharge for extra guests also applies however small the people are, so BABIES AND TODDLERS ARE COUNTED AS AN EXTRA GUEST. Over the past few years we have found that families with young children tend to use more heating and hot water, need travel cots and often more cleaning x We love hosting children so have remarkable facilities for young families - toys, instruments and games, super gentle and friendly animals, a fire pit for toasting marshmallows, kayaks and food that can be foraged on site! ... to make all this possible and enable inspiring and memorable family holidays, all we ask is a small surcharge of £7 per night per person to cover costs. PLEASE ENTER 'INFANTS' as 'CHILDREN OVER 2' in the booking process to make sure it all goes through correctly (I am in an ongoing discussion with Airbnb about all this) It is uncomfortable for us and for you if I to have to ask guests for a surcharge for their little one after a booking request is made :0( Lets all continue making this place special for folk of all ages!
Our neighbourhood is very quiet, secluded and tranquil. The air is clean, you can see the stars and we never hear sirens!
  • Lovely place, the hosts hospitality is brilliant with great communication and a lovely welcome guide with reccomendations of the local area. There are two towns in driving distance which arent very big, however if its a calm, idylic senic holiday you want then this place is great.

  • Amazing spot and lovely project, even in the driving wind and rain! No beavers sighted, interesting to learn more about them and see their work. Best of luck to Sharon and team for the year ahead, hopefully storms are behind us now...and this place is a perfect escape for 'social distancing' if that's what you're after!

    Charlotte2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Narnia . The cottage was lovely with the added bonus of the outside ‘ hut’ area with a couple of sofas a wood burner and star gazing galore! The grounds are wonderful and the animals Thank you Sharon

    Zoe2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Fab, quirky cottage in great location

    Kate2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal location to get away from it all, so nice to go off grid and wander around the hills and woods (even in winter). Lovely food on site, but worth getting some basics first. You won't find many better hosts than Sharon !

    Peter2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for an experience that gives inspiration and hope. You need to visit .The Narnia cottage at Blaeneinion was a complete delight. The cottage itself is very cosy and feel so comfortable .The fact that it is set in a wonderful permaculture success story is as magical as Narnia. Sharon is a delightful funny and inspiring host who has created a wonderland . The bonus on top of it all was food foraged from a garden and eaten in February. I was amazed and delighted by it all.

    Carole2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Well what can I say that hasn't already been said?! If you don't want your energy or happiness levels topped up then don't come!! We were only able to stay of a few nights but we'll definitely be back for longer in the summer. The location is amazing.....oh so that's why it's called Artists Valley!! It's unbelievably beautiful and we're from North Wales which, as everyone knows, is the home of beauty (!) but this place gives us a run for our money!! Narnia is a gorgeous, comfy and warm cottage with everything you need to make you comfortable...including fabulous cat cuddles from the feline fun patrol!! If you're into photography or art, all things eco, animals or just chillaxing, then this is for you! If not, than go and find a noisy, busy, polluted city to go and get stressed out in cus this place aint for you! Peace out kids!

    Fiona2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect, peaceful, stunning location! Sharon makes you feel welcome as soon as you arrive; the drive up the lane is quite scary but it is definitely worth it. We stayed in Narnia which is a cosy little cottage with everything you need, such a calming environment with chickens and geese roaming around and the cockerels wake up call in the mornings made me smile before I even opened my eyes. Lovely walks and views which you can just lose yourself in. Seeing the Beavers in their natural habitat was heart warming.

  • What a fantastic gem and such accommodating and welcoming hosts! This Airbnb is slightly remote yet still close to picturesque Machynlleth and near lovely pubs/restaurants. David and Frankie are super welcoming and keen to make your stay everything you need it to be. The cottage is very well equipped, stylish and comfortable and the surrounding area is super peaceful. We would recommend everyone to stay with David and Frankie and we will definitely be back when we’re in the area again!

  • Excellent hosts. Super value for money as it is well equipped compared to others in the price range. 10/10 would stay again.

    Jordan2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • David’s place is tucked away in the woods in a really secluded spot next to a river that winds down artists valley. Rustic and simple but very cosy. David was a great host - communication was spot on and he was there to greet us at the cottage and left us to get on with our plans after a brief but very friendly welcome. Freshly laid eggs, fresh bread, butter jam and a fridge full of drinks were provided in the kitchen which made for a great breakfast. David even drove us to and from the restaurant down the road that we’d booked. Would definitely recommend David’s place to other travellers looking for a secluded cottage in the woods.

  • The perfect little hideaway in the middle of the woods. Such a nicely decorated place with thoughtful touches. Sparkling clean, warm and comfy beds. No phone service but the WiFi was fine!

  • Polly’s place was great. We had horrific weather but still had a nice time. The bed was very comfy. Thanks

    Nia2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The space is perfect and 100% as described. The bed is amazingly comfortable and in the super cute caravan which was sparkling clean. Hot tub: fantastic touch and due to low light pollution it’s great to watch the stars. Close to Aberystwyth for food if needed but kitchen amenities were clean and suited all requirements (a little cold at the end of October but as expected). A great stay overall and I will definitely return.

    Stacey2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a lovely stay at Polly’s! Loved the hot tub for a chilly October evening and had a lovely ride on Hamish the horse. Really great place to stay and explore some of beautiful Wales 😊

Around ten minute drive from the seaside, and Polly provides lots of activitie brochures for the area. We will be returning here for our future stays in Wales.

  • A lovely slice of camping heaven perched upon a hill over the welsh valleys! its a good location for travelling about, lots to see and do. The camp itself it very well thought out, the kitchen cabin was a joy to cook in and came equipped with essentials like coffee/Tea/Milk, the caravan was comfortable and cosy, the hot tub was just what you need after a day walking around Portmeirion, theres lovely fire-pit to warm up next to and the shower and loo were nice and clean. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Polly, but we were left some clear instructions and a phone number in case of any issues, of which we had non. Its been a magical 2 night stay! Thanks Polly!

The 'Wagon de Cirque' is located in private grounds in the amazing Artist’s Valley. This is no ordinary shepherds hut, it's built to the highest standards to keep you warm and snug throughout the year and sits on a properly restored 1920’s circus trailer. The interior is spacious and quirky, interesting and functional. Artists Valley is a beautiful gem away from the bustle with footpaths through woods to waterfalls and hills. Superb beaches nearby make this a magical location for proper Wales.
The 'Wagon de Cirque' is in a lovely secluded and quiet spot with private driveway and parking. The perfect year-round getaway for a comfortable break in a truly original and inspiring setting. The fully restored 1920's circus trailer chassis has been Architect designed and built to the highest standards in 2019. 'Wagon de Cirque' is an amazing spacious country hideaway with all the essential comforts and on the edge of the native woods where there is plenty of wildlife. The Wagon is big and could easily sleep four but we've only put one large bed in so you can enjoy the extra space and comfort. There is an iconic restored woodstove with super insulation levels to keep you snug any time of year. We have a stylish and functional kitchen for cooking inside the Wagon and a sitting area with vintage comfortable chairs and beautifully crafted table. Joined to the Wagon is a shower with instant hot water and a fresh and clean compost toilet. Adjacent is a lean-to for washing-up with a wonderful Belfast sink and separate basin, along with a fire wok for the proper outdoor 'wagon-life-experience'. The views from here are incredible with amazing starry skies. The Wagon has solar powered electricity and gas shower, and instant hot water. Apparently there's 4G and mobile signal but you'll probably prefer to be absorbed in the atmosphere of this setting..! Towels, linen and some food basics are provided. The Wagon de Cirque is a wonderful cosy home for guests all year round who can enjoy this amazing area in any season. We are keen walkers and love the outdoors, we can point you in the direction of some of the best hidden gems of Wales in this area and beyond. Any questions .. just ask! https://www.peterstaxi.co.uk/
The Wagon is a leap away from the busyness of the holiday destinations of Borth, Aberdyfi and Aberystwyth which has an outstanding Arts Centre, hosts the National Library of Wales and facilities of a university town with lots of choice for eating and taking in the starling murmurations. Machynlleth is six miles away – easily reachable by bus or a long morning’s walk on the Wales Coastal Path which takes in the quintessential Dyfi Biosphere views of the estuary and dormouse woodland. Machynlleth has a weekly market which is thriving over the summer months showcasing local produce and hosts an artisan coffee house and cafes which cater well for vegans and vegetarians. A number of events happen in this increasingly popular town from Machynlleth Comedy Festival to The Festival of Welsh Folk Music. The mountains of Cadair Idris and Plymlymon are within easy reach along with some of the country’s best mountain bike trails as used by our keen biking friends! Fishing day permits are available for the Afon Dyfi and Llyn Clywedog. C.A.T. is reachable by bus for the many courses they hold at this world class eco-centre.

Cosy Chapel in the heart of Snowdonia close to the seaside town of Aberdyfi. Designed by local architect and finished to a excellent standard. Nearby village of Pennal has a excellent Pub and Restaurant serving fine local food. Fabulous place for lover's of the outdoors as there are many walks, cycle paths and nature reserves on the doorstep. The Historic march town of Machynlleth is a short drive and has a wide range of quality shops and eateries.
Former village Chapel sympathetically converted offering a cosy space with lots of light and finished to the highest standard.

  • Perfect place to stay for a weekend away, or longer! Very easy to find, situated on the road only 10 minutes away from Aberdyfi. The house is well insulated from the noise of any cars which do pass so don’t be put off by this! The building has been refurbished to an extremely high standard, it was a pleasure to stay in such a well designed house. Well equipped kitchen, induction hob was fantastic. Everything you could need including washing machine and dish washer. Bathroom has a beautiful rainfall shower and the water was always nice and hot and good pressure. The highlight for us was the fireplace, perfect for rainy evenings in. Can’t wait to stay here again!

    Tom2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved the warmth and character of the chapel (and especially the calm and beauty of the view of the field behind, which is shared by sheep and pheasants!). It is comfortably and attractively furnished, and thoughtfully equipped by host Michael. The bed in the main bedroom is one of the most comfortable that we have ever slept in on holiday - a wonderful firm thick mattress - so extra thanks, Michael, for such good nights' sleep! And we really appreciated the big fluffy bathroom towels too! Michael gave us all the info we needed for the Chapel - and about the surrounding area. The position is excellent for exploring a corner of Wales with so much to offer - the glorious countryside of the Snowdonia National Park with its dark skies, perfect for stargazing, if only the weather is clear enough; gorgeous seaside towns like Aberystwyth and Abudovey (Welsh Aberdyfi); and wonderfully quirky and alternative Machynlleth (don't miss the Centre for Alternative Technology with its friendly, wonderfully knowledgeable and passionate staff and so much to see and learn and experience - at least half a day needed or more). There was plenty more left to see for a return visit. Judi and Steve Herman - and a very happy Bertie the Bedlington Terrier

  • Lovely space. Spotless. Comfortable living are and bedrooms. Michael was very helpful too

    Karen2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • The chapel has been converted & styled to a high standard & has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is located on a main road & when there is traffic it rattles past at quite a rate but it’s not a particularly busy road & there is a parking bay outside the front of the house so parking was quite straightforward. The surrounding area is lovely, we visited Machynlleth (a little market town) & Aberdovey & Barmouth for the sandy beaches. Also drove further afield to visit Portmeirion which is about an hour away but well worth the visit-it was literally like being in Italy the morning we went (although you can’t take dogs into the village so one of our party stayed at home with the dog!) We enjoyed an evening meal at The Riverside in Pennal which is 5 minutes drive from the house, huge portions & good value for money. Would definitely recommend Michael’s place & the surrounding beauty of North Wales.

  • Ann's place is very homely and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. Her kindness & hospitality were much appreciated!

  • Quaint house, town centre Ann was very welcoming when I arrived earlier than expected and she gave plenty of directions of where to find the house. The kitchen had a good range of cereal to choose from and nice little touches like the offer of a hot water bottle. It was a little cold but there were extra blankets and earplugs to help with the noise of the traffic. The bookshelf was full of great classic novels and the living room was colourful and quaint. Thanks Ann 🧡

This ground floor conversion is a spacious and elegant open plan kitchen/sitting/dining room. Triple glazed at the front, it's beautifully quiet. The generous bedroom at the back has a lovely modern wetroom. Underfloor heating throughout means you will be cosy and warm. The bustling market town of Machynlleth is just up the road, with both the railway station and the bus stop just opposite the house, so you can ditch the car and head out into the amazing countryside. Access is using a keycode.
The kitchen has all you should need - fridge, kettle, microwave, toaster, stove and oven and a large table to enjoy your meals. There is a comfy sofa and soft chair as well as the dining table & chairs. The bedroom has a comfortable double bed. The level-access wetroom leads off this room. In the sitting room, there is a sofabed (this is a small 'double') and we can provide a travel cot should you need it. The whole space is was set up for someone who had disabilities. If you have specific needs, please contact us to discuss before booking. A little glitch would be that if the electricity trips, we will need access to the bedroom - this happens once every year or two. There is parking on the street to the front, or on the small road leading up to the station. There is also an off-road carpark opposite the house which you would need to pay for separately. - Free Wifi - Smart TV with Freeview and you can access your own Netflix etc. - Guest access is with a keycode so you are completely independent.
Machynlleth punches way above its weight with its annual Comedy Festival, Music Festival (mainly 'classical'), and the Dyfi Enduro. It has its own Museum of Modern Art (five separate exhibition spaces), nearby Ynys Hir (RSPB) hosted Springwatch for three years, the Centre For Alternative Technology is just up the road and did I mention the mountain biking? There are local walks or you can start on a longer hike from here. It's an ancient town, home to Owain Glyndŵr’s 1404 parliament and a market that dates back to 1291. There are lovely pubs, some with live music at weekends. There's a good deli and eateries galore including the nearby Michelin star restaurant at Ynys Hir.
  • Great guest suite. 5 min walk from town centre but everything we needed in the apartment. We'll equipped kitchen, great wet room and comfortable bed. Plus all the great countryside around the town. Recommended!

Beautiful, remote, unique and very very basic. Its on a working farm with dogs, sheep, amazing views, woods to roam in and a fire to gather around. Its for hardy, outdoorsy types with a sense of humour and a love of the countryside. Its a basic place to stay so expect no frills. Its been in the family for years. We have found that you either fall in love with it, or you don't get it. This is very much a trial 3 months for us hence setting low expectations and the low rate. Near Aberdovey
Stone floors, old school bunk beds and decent double beds. No sheets (yet) so bring sleeping bags and pillows. Industrial arga in the kitchen, wood burning stove in the front room and a bathroom that does the job. No shower, and a functional bath. Running water, but not drinkable unless boiled - comes from a spring. Functional mini fridge, but nothing else in the kitchen. You would need to bring camping style supplies for cooking and eating.
It is in the most stunning location. You have a 20 min drive to Aberdovey which is lovely beach side small town, and you are 20 minutes from Machynelleth which has all the shops and supplies you need. The walks in the area are endless, but you can't go wrong with a walk up to the bearded lake and over to Aberdovey. Don’t miss the https://machcomedyfest.co.uk/ at the start of May. Perfect place for a group if you to stay. 10 quid to get in to town for the festival.
  • Amazing remote location and a real rustic place to spend a cold evening! Views are also amazing!

    Matt2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • this is everything as described, we loved it , it is rustic, and an amazing location, cosy fire, simple and authentic.

    Veronica2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great cottage. As per the description, don’t expect luxury, but it’s a lovely rustic place, with loads of character.

    Philip2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very cosy and very rustic farmhouse with an amazing location! The pantry and kitchen are well equipped and useful although there is only a bath (i.e. no shower). You also need to have at least one member familiar with chopping wood (axe and logs provided) and starting fires in the aga - these aren't tricky at all (they're part of the fun) but it's best to expect them. Overall a place with real charm and a great location - certainly a reasonable price for a place which is really what you make of it!

    Gregory2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolutely fantastic place. Fabulous walks, slow cooking on the range, the warmth of the wood burner and a hidden tree house. We couldn't have asked for more and really didn't want to come home.

    Natasha2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most fabulous farmhouse. It hasn’t been tarted up (in fact some of the paper is off the walls and some of the flooring slates are cracked) and is how my grandparents lived (only with electric heaters and good beds!) . About the only thing Rob misses off the instructions is the wheezy sheepdog Scruff who will come and great you .. really friendly and adorable, but you hear him way before you see him. Good instructions on how to find it (and it really is a steep road, so if you have a 4wd and there is any possibility of ice, bring it) and it is near the top of a hill so the wind it does howl. I was so chuffed with myself for lighting the aga (actually an esse which is much better) and cooking a meal that I might have been chef at a top restaurant! But I think the old bread oven in the front room doesn’t work any longer which is a shame. There is a 2 bar o2 / giffgaff signal with the phone on the window sill that meant I could do slow emails and listen to radio 4, but 1 bar on the 3 network was no use. Downsides. These somehow add to the treat but you can’t have a house like this without some. The instructions say leave the heat on “winter” but someone had turned it off so the chairs felt damp. I might take a few spare sheets another time. A really good set of beds meant a good nights sleep (bring sleeping bags and pillows) but the spiral staircase treads are as erratic as the floors and the outside approach. Someone with visual handicap would have problems as well as those with mobility issues, and I tripped over a water pipe in the dark so bring a torch! There was enough wood for a night, but the local wood is pine so won’t keep the fire ”in” overnight. I would be inclined to bring a few hard wood slow burning logs another time. There is more pine outside and I left some bits of timber inside to dry out, but you also need kindling, newspaper firelighters and matches. That said, two hours from arrival I had a really hot oven that cooked the days fresh mackerel (the fish stall on Mach Wednesday market is great) with pancakes on top. The hot water from the Esse lasts hot in the tank for over 24 hours, but you run a lot to get the hot to the bathroom and if you use much water, more requires climbing steps to look in a tank out the back, and turning levers ... and I confess I didn’t dare. However, when water is precious you don’t use much and I coped with a 5 gallon vat I filled up and brought with me. There isn’t a lot of cooking equipment but enough for a few people and a really good solid little old style frying pan that would be anyones dream. Also an electric kettle and toaster, and a gas 2 ring cooker and grill that is a quicker solution to breakfast than lighting the stove. Perhaps bring a big saute pan and if I was feeding a family I would bring an instant / one pot with me for speed and ease, but it would be a shame to lose the magic of the esse. The pine spits and there is no fire blanket, so I think I would bring one (and a small first aid kit) especially if there were children around. This farmhouse is life as it was, and is a total gear shift from our normal life these days. A slice of heaven.

    Stephanie2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much. Especially the children (six kids from 14 months to twelve years old) were really happy at the house and in the sourroundings. As described everything is very basic and reminds of a different century but that is also, what makes the place charming and challenging at the same time. We'll happily stay at the Streets' house again, if we come to travel Snowdonia another time.

    Katrin2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rob's place was just as described - beautiful, rustic and basic - which is exactly why we booked it and exactly what we love. We had such a nice weekend; went on a really beautiful walk up to the Bearded Lake nearby and spent time at the beach in Aberdovey which is a short drive away. Would definitely recommend :) Thanks so much.

Our gorgeous, rustic shepherd style hut is the perfect place for a glamping getaway for two in Snowdonia National Park! You'll have your own well equipped kitchen and terrace with chimenea - perfect for alfresco dining or star gazing at night. Inside the hut there's a proper, comfy double bed for a great nights sleep; seating and a wood burner to keep you warm. Our shared shower and toilet facilities are just a short walk away.
Nyth Robin is the perfect place to escape the daily hustle and bustle - there's no electricity in our hut, just lights and USB charger in case you need to stay connected. You'll find Nyth Robin just outside the pretty seaside village of Aberdovey, on the west cost of Wales.
There's lots to do in the surrounding area and beyond. There's large sandy beach in Aberdovey and lots of great options for walking, with the Welsh Costal path nearby. If 2 wheels are your thing, then there's great off road routes in Coed Y Brenin and Dyfi woods. Both the RSPB reserve and Osprey centre are a short drive away, so plenty of birdlife spotting options too!
  • * Warm welcome * Warm accommodation * Great site * Great facilities * Wonderful area

  • What a lovely place to stay! A very cosy Shepard’s hut on a very peaceful site. The hut is tucked into the trees just by a stream making it a very relaxing location. The hut itself is very pleasing, clean and tidy with nice decor and a very comfy bed. The log burner will keep you warm no matter the weather and plenty of wood was provided for our stay! The deck was a lovely place to relax and take in the surrounding and the outdoor kitchen had everything you need to rustle something up. Overall couldn’t really fault our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great way to spend the weekend away to recharge!

Hatter's Cottage is on a small-holding right in the heart of the beautiful Dyfi Valley. Close to the beach at Borth and the estuary at Ynyslas where 'Hinterland' was filmed. There's walking, cycling, fishing, birdwatching too at RSPB Ynyshir - and you can help feed the chickens, ducks and goats. We're a one mile walk to the nearest local pub, five minutes by car to the sea, with views of the glorious Dyfi valley from the back garden - which transforms into a bluebell wood in Spring.
IMPORTANT - this is a two bedroom cottage with beds for four people, but we do provide put-u-up beds for another two people - as a family of six we know how expensive and difficult it can be to find accommodation... And we do like to be accommodating. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - PETS - we do welcome well behaved dogs too, but please contact us before booking. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Hatter's Cottage is part of Goitre Fach a 14 acre small-holding on the edge of Cors Fochno, world famous for its wildlife and nature. We've a small herd of Golden Guernsey goats, chickens, ducks and some resident sheep. Goitre Fach - little wooded place in English - is just that, with loads of space for kids to play in, make dens and try their luck at catching slow worms and grass snakes. The variety of wildlife is surprising, from pipistrel bats to Tawny owls, Red kite and woodpecker. Look out for the rare rosy marsh moth and equally scarce bog orchids. Amazing nature on your front doorstep. The cottage itself is a new-build replacement on the site of the original cattle byre. It's clean, warm and modern, but still has character. Space is used as effectively as possible to make your stay comfortable an cosy. Downstairs is a through lounge, dining area, kitchen, whilst upstairs there are two bedrooms, a large mezzanine with a king size bed and a smaller one with two singles. There is a put u up bed which will fit in either bedroom and a pop-up cot.
Goitre Fach is a 14 acre small-holding on the edge of Cors Fochno, (URL HIDDEN) a UNESCO Biosphere reserve, the only one in Wales and world famous for its wildlife and nature. We've a small herd of Golden Guernsey goats, a motley collection of chickens, ducks and guinea fowl and a handful of sheep. There's plenty of room for kids to play in a 2 acre 'wild-wood' - and yes they do seem to enjoy feeding the animals as well! We're a mile from the local pub and a 5 minute drive to Borth beach and the Ynyslas estuary. Machynlleth and the Centre for Alternative Technology are 10 miles away, and the Dyfi Osprey Project and RSPB's Ynyshir nature reserve are just 5 miles away. Aberystwyth, with a lively Arts Centre, countless cafes and bars, the National Library of Wales, a very short pier and a very long promenade is 8 miles and there is a sporadic bus service from the end of the road. HISTORY - Hatter's Cottage has been re-built on the site of an old hat-makers cottage. You know those traditional black Welsh lady's hats, they were the main industry for our little hamlet back in the 1840s. The new style had just come in and almost all the iconic hats - as well as the miner's helmets - were made here and in Tregaron. Why? Local people had turbury rites to the peat on the bog, it gave them free fuel which was needed to steam mould the woollen felt, from local fleeces, into shape. Then they were shipped off to the closes silver mining town of Tre Taliesin, a mile and half away, and sold on across the rest of Wales.
  • A lovely quite bohemian place, a very accommodating laid back host. Excellent location for beach.

    Lesley2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay and explore Mid Wales, many attractions around, especially CAT ! Close to the Snowdonia National Park. If you want, one day you can spend on the beach and another climbing on the mountain. Beautiful forests around. I think everyone can find something to do here. The house itself is charming, only terrace is in the front, next to the small closed road, but I was worried to let children play without my supervision. Inside clean and cosy. Guy is a nice host with a great sense of humour;) He was really helpful. Diolch!

    Anna2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • A warm welcome and lots of information if wanted about the local area awaits. The location gives easy access by car to many good spots to visit and even in the summer holidays nowhere was overcrowded. Aberystwyth is a nice city to explore and Machynlleth has a bit of an ‘alternative vibe’ and interesting shops etc... The scenery around the estuary locations is wonderful. We had a week of mixed weather but enjoyed doing things nearby ‘whatever the weather’.

    Judy2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our 5 day stay at Guy's place. He was friendly, helpful, and only next door if we had any issues (which we didn't). As mentioned by other guests, Hatter's Cottage was clean and spacious. Set not too far down a private lane, and with car parking, it made a great base for us to visit many local attractions, and for walks. We really enjoyed visits by ducks and chickens - who all roam 'free range'! Lovely walks locally, as well as the wonderful Borth and Ynyslas beaches not far away. Further afield, Aberystwyth (to the south) and Machynlleth (to the north) are always worth a visit. Machynlleth's local street market is on a Wednesday. If you feel adventurous, Aberystwyth is a 5 mile coastal walk from Borth. The cottage was a lovely place to relax and get a little closer to nature.

    Aberystwyth, Wales, United Kingdom

A newly refurbished and extended cottage, directly overlooking the tidal River Dovey (a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve), and just down the road from Dyfi Osprey project and overlooking the edge of the Ynyshir nature reserve. The house sits on the A487 , 4 miles from the town of Machynlleth, and 10 miles from Aberystwyth. The coastal town of Borth is just just 8 miles.
I renovated this cottage over the course of 2 years, having been derelict and not lived in for some 30 years. Some work had already begun, but it has been a labor love and frustration in parts turning it around and getting it to the place it is today. The downside is it is on a road, but the views across the estuary and across to the Southern Snowdonia Mountains mean you soon forget about that, whilst sat on the sofa or even in bed. Being mid wales the roads aren't that busy and it goes very quiet early evening. The house has been converted with luxury in mind. The huge sofa overlooking the valley is extremely comfortable and a great place to sit back and relax in the evening and make use of the the home cinema system. The house also has a Bose Wave Hifi system. The open plan kitchen off the dining room and lounge is well equipped, with two ovens, microwave, wine fridge, american fridge freezer with ice maker, plate warming draw, pop corn maker, bread machine and Nespresso coffee machine and dishwasher.
With the mountains of southern Snowdonia to the north and the Cambrian hills to the south, the Ynys-hir reserve is stunning whichever way you look. Summer brings wading birds, such as lapwings and redshanks. Come the colder months, ducks and geese move in. There are plenty of activities to do in the area. Some initial suggestions include: Place to visit... Aberdovey (lovely little coastal town with a long beach) where you can walk dogs. There are few shops and pubs. It’s just over the Estuary but a 10 minute journey by train along the beautiful Cambrian line from Dovey Junction station (the path to which is opposite the cottage). Elan Valley (a series of reservoirs). I’d recommend going there by taking the mountain road from Machynlleth to Llanidloes. Devils Bridge (a walk down a valley with cascading waterfalls just about everywhere you look). You can either drive or get the Vale of Rheidol Steam Railway from Aberystwyth. Barmouth (coastal town much larger than Aberdovey. I’d recommend on a nice day getting teh train or going by car and stopping/parking at the Morfa Mawddach train station on the opposite side of the estuary from Barmouth and walk in across the footpath that runs alongside the train line over the estuary. Cycling or walking the Mawddach Estuary from Dolgellau that takes you to Barmouth. It’s amazing scenery and 9.5 miles each way but is completely flat and not a road in sight, oh, and there is a pub half way. Cors Dyfi Osprey Reserve Just down the road from the cottage (less than a mile). Even if you have no interest in Ospreys it is very well put together. A long walkway takes you through the reed beds up to a huge new look out centre. Water Buffalos graze the reed beds. It’s not open all year though so you will need to check. Sand Dunes and Beech at Ynyslas Ynyslas is a particularly attractive stretch of Mid Wales coastline that provides quite a contrast to the stony beaches at Aberystwyth. Situated a short drive north of Borth, the Ynyslas National Nature Reserve is dominated by an ever-changing sand dune landscape, which is home to an array of rare plants and wildlife, including colourful orchids early in the summertime. You may also see creatures such as lizards and wading birds in the area. With views inland and across the estuary to Aberdovey, Ynyslas is a great spot for walking or relaxing with waymarked boardwalks, trails through the dunes and a visitor centre open from Easter till September that has more information about the plants and wildlife of the area. Cadir Idris Claimed to be the second most popular mountain in Wales for walkers, and my favourite, and just 20 mins by car from the cottage! I’d recommend the Minffordd path which is also the closest the cabin. https://www.mudandroutes.com/routes/cadair-idris-minffordd-path/ Ynys-hir RSPB Nature Reserve A lovely reserve, right on the edge of the estuary and where BBC’s Spring Watch was filmed and just over a mile from the cottage. Eating Out Number Twenty One on the main high street in Machynlleth is highly recommended in trip advisor reviews and is a small brassiere style restaurant. Riverside Hotel, Pennal, Machynlleth. Pennal is on the road to Aberdovey and comes again highly recommended. The Black Lion on the road out of Machynlleth towards Aberystwyth also is highly recommended in trip advisor reviews is and I’m told is good for traditional pub grub. Sea Breaze (Fish Restaurant, Aberdovey). Great food, local produce and a relaxed atmosphere. The Cross Foxes outside of Dolgellau is a modern pub restaurant serving great food but is some 10 miles from the lodge. Hennighan’s Top Shop (Fish and Chip Takeaway), Machynlleth. Found at the top of the high street – it is always busy and award winning.
  • Such a beautiful house, modern and clean. The view is amazing. Perfectly situated to explore all of Snowdonia and the west coast.

  • Exceptionally stylish and comfortable house, and a perfect hideaway for a wet and windy weekend. The cosy living room with log burner and spectacular cinema screen more than made up for the weather, and I'm sure it's a stunning place to be in the summer too. One of the best Airbnbs I've stayed in, without a doubt. Only slight drawback is the proximity to the road - if you're sleeping on the sofa bed on the landing it can be quite noisy, but everything else makes up for it.

    Hamish2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • James place has first class amenities, everything you could want in the kitchen, the projector TV was amazing, great for film nights in the rain. The view is truly spectacular and is amazing to wake upto, the log burner is just perfect for the chilly February evening, with loads of logs and coal on hand. We will definitely be returning!!

    Phil2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Everything about the place was amazing, from the home to the location. Extremely clean and had everything you needed. Bed and sofa was super comfy and the big doors, projector and the fire made it even better. James was really helpful and had really quick replies. Would definitely recommend!

    Kirsty2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely weekend there during a good storm. Was a great place to hide from it with the big screen and fire. It is a great location to make use of the train to explore the local area. Would recommend.

  • This cottage is honestly a 10/10, beautifully decorated, stunning views, incredible amenities. We’d come back in a heartbeat, it’s so cute and cosy yet modern. The projector and the screen were such a wonderful touch, thanks again James for such great hospitality.

    Emma2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The location is beautiful, stunning views out over the water and although there is a road outside you barely notice it. Easy to park, easy drive into Machynlleth for anything you might need, and the house itself is stunning. Comfortable, luxurious, well-equipped and cosy, and ideal if you want a break doing very little at all. James is a perfect host, communicates quickly but doesn’t intrude at all, and nothing was too much effort. Will definitely return, we have had a perfect long weekend.

    Peter2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in a beautiful and stylish space. James was a great host who was very responsive and provided lots of valuable tips for exploring the area.

Cosy double room in a quirky apartment with great views over both the town and the hills behind. Most likely you'll be sharing communal areas with myself and 2 daughters, to be clear this is our family home and it has relevant wear and tear and walls still to be painted etc. Not a holiday cottage but well equipped and brilliantly located close to public transport, shops and private parking. Shared garden also for your use. We have 3 black cats too.
Situated over three floors over an old bank the flat is quite an unusual space that we've made our home for 3 years now, still a work in progress but nearly there! Your double glazed room at the back of the house has stunning views orientated towards the sunset. From the kitchen diner you can enjoy a great vantage point over the town
Machynlleth is a safe and friendly town with easy access to trains to Birmingham and beyond and at the edge of Snowdonia, the Celtic rainforest and some stunning beaches. I think it's utopia but I might be biased.
  • I wasn't able to do much in Machynlleth because I accidentally visited at the same time as Storm Ciara but Claire's home was a lovely place to hide from the weather, cuddle a cat and cheekily sample some homemade baked treats. The location is perfect for exploring Machynlleth, visiting CAT and Snowdonia National Park so I hope to return soon with kinder weather.

    Sarah2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • All communications and directions with Claire prior to arrival were excellent. Her apartment is right in the very centre of Machynlleth, looking out from her first floor kitchen/diner window straight up the High Street, and from the guest room at the back (it's totally quiet at night) westwards to the hills in the distance. She and her young children are delightfully sociable, whilst respectful of privacy. Harry, suave, jet black and with bewitching emerald eyes, might pay you a furry-purry visit if he thinks you like him. The house is cheerful and convivial, guest accommodation calm, warm and unfussy.

Cosy basement room with small double bed with patio doors opening to the garden which you are welcome to use. There's the option of a sofa bed too. Family and larger groups can extend into a second bedroom in the house which can sleep two. This can be booked separately if basement is taken. There is another listing for this which you can view separately (https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/20974836?location=Wales%20taliesin&checkin=&checkout=&adults=1&children=0&infants=0&guests=1&s=c_ySFvX4).
The bed in the basement studio is a small double (good mattress) and you could use up to two fold-up foam mattresses on the floor. In the upstairs bedroom the bed is a high bunk and you could use a fold up foam mattresses in that room as well. Please ask about additional spaces. These rooms are in a family house so you would probably hear signs of life in the kitchen in the mornings and evenings (not too early or late). The height of the basement room is 6 foot 4 inches so it is not suitable for very tall people. We have two cats.
Taliesin is friendly village with great walks from the doorstep and only 4 miles from the beach.

Set in the grounds of the owner’s property, but totally independent of it. Private garden, and off road parking. Dog friendly (one only), but not in bedrooms. Free WiFi and smart tv
The cottage has its own private garden. For access to fields (for dog walking etc) ask me to arrange.
One mile from Machynlleth. A small market town which is the ancient capital of Wales.
  • A lovely place to stay, with everything you could need.

  • A great nice cosy place to stay

    Henrik2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A little gem in a rural setting. Perfect little base for our family of four and great value. The cottage is behind, but separate from the hosts house. Colin and his wife were great. On hand if we had any questions, but at no point did we feel like we didn’t have our own space. Log burner with a basket of logs thrown in was perfect at this time of year for some cosy nights watching movies by the fire. WIFI and a smart TV for Netflix etc. Town with shops 5 mins drive.

  • I had a perfect 3 nights at Abi's and Zoe's apartment. I stayed late on last year and the property was lovely and fresh back then but now they have given it even more amenities and its the real deal. Zoe was an amazing host and incredibly helpful and had thought of pretty much everything I wanted and more. Also the touches such as fresh fruit, ground coffee and fresh bread on arrival made the stay 10/10

  • Room as described. Warm and cosy. Central location and easy to find. Kitchenette with fridge, kettle, toaster and microwave plus enough crockery etc is useful. I'm happy to recommend to others and would stay there again if in Mach.

    Sarah2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Abi’s place is lovely, in a great location and very clean. It has everything you could possibly need. When the weather was really bad we got offered board games and there was bread for breakfast and a variety of jams. Thank you!

  • A cosy, private retreat surrounded by the glorious scenery and attractions of Mid Wales. Abi is a great communicator and goes above and beyond to provide a warm welcome, yummy breakfast treats, and whatever information you might need. There’s private off-road parking & it’s right in the centre of town, a few yards from shops and cafes, and only a few minutes from varied walking paths along the Dyfi valley or up into the hills. Perfect!

  • A lovely place in a beautiful setting of Snowdonia. The trails are nearly at your doorstep. The place is sparkling clean and very cosy. Highly recommend it!

    Svitlana2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my partner were utterly delighted by our stay at Abi's place! We feel fortunate to have stayed with Abi, and to have met such a friendly, welcoming and easy to communicate with host. The space is ideal for relaxing, and is private without being withdrawn. It is so spacious, and evidently a lot of love has gone in to the design of the room and the furnishings, which combine to give it a homely and comfortable feel. There are really thoughtful small touches (providing lovely ground coffee, sheepskin throws, a comfy sofa, slippers and a book of suggestions among other things), which were greatly appreciated. Also an amazing location, slap bang in the centre of town but tucked out of sight so there is limited footfall past the property. It is easily walkable (even with luggage) from Mach station, and Abi was kindly waiting outside the property to wave us down on arrival! We can't thank Abi enough, and are very hopeful to return! (Mach is also a lovely town with good eateries, and stunning vistas nearby, ideal for walks! Though we needed a slouch).

  • The studio is very well presented and is spacious as described. The bed is extremely comfortable and I slept with no issues at all during my stay. Due to the studio apartment setup you have everything you require and it felt more relaxing than other properties I have stayed at in Machynlleth. The location is absolutely perfect for whatever you need in Machynlleth, whether it's mountain biking or walking or local history walks and scenic treks, the apartment is in a prime location. Abi and Zoe were fantastic hosts and have thought of everything to make your stay relaxing and they are always on hand for any help. I highly recommend staying here.

Enjoy a unique glamping stay in Cerys our vintage caravan! Cerys is a 1960s caravan who 's been given some TLC and is now a fabulous and unique glamping stay. With hand painted scenic exterior and bespoke hand-crafted stylish interior Cerys really is a one off. There’s a comfy double bed and pull out small single, so room for up to 3 people. Cerys is conviniently located a corner of our small, peaceful campsite, and just a short walk to the well kept facilities.
The well-equipped kitchen has a gas hob plus all the pots, pans, cutlery, utensils and crockery you need. We also include tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper, oil, kitchen towel & foil, so you don’t need to pack the small things. There’s washing up liquid and sponges too, you’ll just need to decide who’s doing the dishes!

  • Sadie’s place is amazing. Lovely extra touches, nothing too much trouble in a wonderful location

    Vicky2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sadie and Grants caravan and campsite is the nicest I’ve ever stayed at and they were excellent hosts. The caravan itself was beautifully refurbished and decorated. Small but very functional and comfortable with the best use of space made. All the little touches such as oil, salt, blankets, cafetière coffee, fire wood and matches being provided made a big difference. Being able to park right next to the caravan was really helpful for me. The site is beautiful and very well kept. We enjoyed walks through the woods and a paddle in the stream between trips to the beach just 10 mins drive down the road. The toilet and shower block was immaculately clean and well appointed and the bonus for me with two small children was a family bathroom with plenty of space. The block is also close to the caravan. We had a really nice time making the most of the caravan, site and fire pit with good access to lots of beautiful places to visit. I highly recommend this site to anyone looking for a mid-wales break. You won’t be disappointed. Lovely site, lovely caravan, lovely location.

pretty 18th century beamed cottage in the heart of town, however it is very peaceful as it is off a private lane. There is private parking for 2 cars at the rear of the property through the courtyard garden. Two slate steps from the car park take you through the courtyard garden into the kitchen then down two steps into the lounge with woodburner, which lead to the stairs and bedroom, bathroom and single bed on landing...
The cottage has a washer dryer, dishwasher, freezer, vacuum cleaner, dvd player, tv with sky Q no premium movies or sport and super fast broadband.
Seconds from busy Wednesday market, brilliant pubs, music, festivals, MOMA and CAT , for business or pleasure the venue here is sublime. Mac is wonderful. Many lovely sole trader shops, a fab leisure centre, delightful walks. Close to Snowdonia National Park and beautiful beaches of Aberdovey , Twywyn, Borth etc. always something happening in Mach... this house is our home and we love it... you will too.

A cosy self catering cottage in attractive rural location near the river Dulas. Within walking distance of the old market town of Machynlleth and railway station. Close to mountains, rivers and coast. There is one bedroom with a double bed and the other bedroom sleeps 3 in bunk beds and a single bed. Downstairs in the lounge is a double sofa bed. Heating is provided by storage heaters and a woodturning stove at cooler times of the year.
From the front of the cottage you have view over the river and the back to a wooded hillside. The cosy lounge has a wood burner. There is small but well provisioned kitchen (but no dishwasher) Upstairs the double bedrooms looks over the river and the second bed room has view to the back. It has a single bed and adult size bunk beds and is very snug, so good for children or adults who know each other well! The lounge also has a double sofa bed. The cottage does not have a washing machine but I can provide a laundry service if required and there is a laundrette in Machynlleth. Internet can be provided at a charge of £5 thanks to the generosity of our neighbour. There are towels for guest use in the bathroom, I just ask for £2 for their use. If you arrive by public transport, bike or foot there is no charge. Glangwynedd, built in the 1950's has a simple interior which has not had a modern makeover. The kitchen and bathroom are new with all facilities.
The cottage is in a very rural area close to the lovely mountain river Dulas which is crossed by a very ancient stone bridge. Walking up the hill there are lovely views down into the Dyfi valley with surrounding hills and pasture and woodland. A 20 minute walk across the valley via a foot & cycle path brings you to the old market town of Machynlleth. Many interesting birds can be seen around the cottage, with red kites gliding overhead and kingfishers on the river. If you are lucky you could see an otter in the river or hear it whistling at night.
  • I was very happy with the place - everything was as described.

    Teja2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very cosy cottage especially the log burner during my stay as it was rather frosty most nights so made the evenings much more comfortable. Local tips were really helpful when looking for local wildlife and great location with shops and attractions close by with the larger peaks about 1 hour North, and Anglesey about 2 hours for Red Squirrels! Great trip all around!

The location is beautiful, views of hills, river and stone bridge, masses of stars at night. Loved the life in the garden, especially the range of small chattering birds. Visited locally, lovely walk along the river to Machynlleth; short scenic drive to the sea. Great restaurant in Mach “Number 21”. Thanks for a relaxing, peaceful visit. We’d happily return.

Located in the stunning and remote 'Artists Valley' (with Beavers!) this charming Self Contained House is in a 75 acre conservation and permaculture site.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Corona virus Considerations Updated 19 March 2020 What interesting times As we find ourselves faced with the current challenges surrounding the spread of the virus, there are understandable concerns about travel and contact with others. If you do need to shop for supplies or make essential visits, please be mindful to protect our local community and use the hand sanitizers provided and observe social distancing. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are happy to visit respectfully and abide by these guidelines, read on; An hours walk to the nearest road, this place is for honest folk who are looking for a simple rural retreat. The Cottage is not glamorous - a simple cowshed conversion done in the 80's - and updated as much as we can manage right now, but warm, cosy and equipped with everything you should need! Ideal as well for riding groups who can stay overnight and keep horses in the field. From beach to us it is a gorgeous days ride! 'Lavender Cottage' is a modern conversion of the original outbuildings, so is stone on the outside but nicely decorated, more modern and well insulated inside. Although simply furnished, (we are running a conservation project that is subsidised by the Cottages - so we are mostly skint!) it has new glazing and carpets and is easy to heat. It is a fully self-contained Cottage with an open plan kitchen/diner and lounge and has a small bathroom downstairs and has 2 large double bedrooms above. The Cottage adjoins the main buildings on one side and faces South looking out onto the bird enclosure and Valley beyond. Anyone who may have problems with a cockerel 'going off' in the morning - consider yourself warned ;) The kitchen is bright, clean and homely with an electric cooker, new fridge, a washing machine and a separate older freezer under the stairs. You also have a microwave, toaster, tea towels and kettle etc... Clothes will dry well on the radiators, but if you need to use a tumble-dryer for soggy emergencies, please ask me at the main house :) We have stocked the kitchen with all the cooking utensils and crockery that you should need (please let us know if anything is missing:) and we are building up a 'rolling stock' of core cooking condiments, oil, tea and spices so that guests should only need to bring their main ingredients with them and should be all set! The little bathroom has a new shower (not a 'power shower' as we are half way up a mountain and our water is gravity fed from spring!) but no bath tub :( - hopefully, that will not bother too many people x Towels and toilet tissue are supplied. The circular dining table will seat 4 people if you choose to eat indoors.... otherwise, why not try a BBQ over the fire pit next to the stream or sit on the patio?! The open plan lounge has a 3 seater sofa and two comfy armchairs - ideal for a family or group of friends to relax at the end of a days exploring! There is a TV (connected to a 'Freesat' box) which receives the main 'Freeview' channels and a DVD player. An eclectic selection of DVDs is in the Cottage (for adults and children)... or bring some from home? x Upstairs, there is one VERY large double room (facing South) with a Kingsize bed and a smaller child's bed. The mattress is brand new and very comfy! The second double room has a gorgeous old-fashioned but smaller double bed and one single bed. The sleeping arrangements would be suitable for two couples, a group of friends or a family with children, and are pretty flexible too if things need moving around a bit. For young families -please let us know if need to borrow our travel cot :) Please note that the £7 per night surcharge for extra guests also applies however small the people are, so BABIES AND TODDLERS ARE COUNTED AS AN EXTRA GUEST. PLEASE ENTER 'INFANTS' as 'CHILREN OVER 2' in the booking process to make sure it all goes through correctly (I am in an ongoing discussion with Airbnb about all this) It is uncomfortable for us and for you if I to have to ask guests for a surcharge for their little one after a booking request is made :0( Lets all continue making this place special for folk of all ages! The central heating works very well and runs on LPG (Liquid Gas) in cannisters - you can switch the heating on and off as you prefer. The electricity supply runs on an (ancient!) coin meter ('old' 1£'s!).... as it used to be a rental property - we have good supply we can swap for new ones! Usually, £2 per day should be ample unless you have the cooker on constantly or a very serious tea habit ;) x Although there is little Wifi in Lavender Cottage right now, there is however, a good signal in the new Breakfast Room and WiFi all around site. Our connection here at the end of the Valley can on occasion, be temperamental - so just in case, best not to rely on it for life and death situations... but it is normally more than adequate to check emails, download films and make internet video calls. In addition to exploring the whole Permaculture and Conservation site, you would also be able to make the most of our new 'Breakfast Room' - a 10 metre Conservatory with glass on 3 sides, tables and chairs to sit at and comfy sofas at the other end. This gorgeous space is for use by everyone at Blaeneinion and is perfect to relax in or check emails on wetter days - please see the photos :) There are lots of plants, a piano, a stereo system, some childrens toys (wooden Brio train set has been very popular!) jigsaws and a growing and eclectic mixture of books to enjoy. It is a great spot to enjoy looking out at the stars in the evening or enjoying a glass of wine after a long days walking and exploring :) The breakfast room gets super-hot on Summer days and comfortably warmed too by even the merest sunshine even in Winter.... the stone wall internally retains heat like a big storage heater well into the evenings. There are delicious home-made jams for sale in the Breakfast room, and please ask if you would like eggs, jams or fresh veggies produced on site. (Please note that 2017 has been tricky - so much less around this season :( ) x We encourage folk to minimise car use - and are very happy to provide a taxi service to and from the station at Machynlleth within reasonable hours for £10 if you need it. Please get in touch if this is of interest. Also an apology that we cannot accept pets on site - we love animals and have lost both poultry and wild birds and animals from dog attacks. Even the most well-behaved dogs leave a strong scent which deters the wild animals from coming near the house... and although we know it's not their fault, we just have to be strict on this issue. We hope you can understand.
Our neighbourhood is very quiet, secluded and tranquil. The air is clean, you can see the stars and we never hear sirens!
  • We had a lovely short break, such a beautiful location and Sharon was fantastic, warm and welcoming and we were so grateful for her assistance in sorting out our flat tyre! The accommodation was perfect for what we needed. Hope to stay again in the future.

  • Really nice place. Has everything you need and was a great base to stay in. We had a delicious goose egg and lots of lovely fresh veg which we'd highly recommend getting. Obvious point but they can't pick veg / find eggs after dark and there's no shop nearby so keep that in mind when planning. Also there is an electric meter! We somehow missed that and went to bed early instead of powering on with a film :) It is quite a drive off the road but keep going down that road. It's even past the frog sign... And there are loads of frogs on the road so watch out for them!!

  • A fantastic and fascinating example of how to live more sustainably. Great place to visit.

  • An amazing and unique place! Even though the weather was terrible during our stay, the countryside, views and wildlife around Sharon’s place is fantastic. Great if you like nature and walking. We will be returning....hopefully in better weather!

  • Great scenery, location and host who takes care of your needs. Quirky and thoroughly enjoyable place, fantastic for adventurous children of all ages

    Elizabeth2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The road to drive to the cottage is absolutely amazing. The house itself is located at the most beautiful spot next to a small river at the end of the road. The place is simple but very nice and we didn't miss anything. We didn't get to see beavers but my little daughter loved the animals roaming around, especially the ducks. During the summer it will be even nicer to visit. Get ready to communicate with one another because there's no cellphone reception in the area... just what you need to relax.

    Antonis2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic retreat from the craziness of city life! Beautifully located with several hiking options, you can explore for hours without being interrupted by and technology, vehicles, or even humans. Lovely cottages stocked with enough utensils to cook you own meals and nicely decorated rooms. The on sight wildlife was a definite plus, wake up and have a flock waiting at your door to greet you. Will definitely be back!

    Mike2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fab cottage, very clean and exactly as described. Will definitely be going back.

We have three large, light and comfortable rooms in a family home right in the heart of Machynlleth. Each one is uniquely decorated, and furnished with a double bed (though we can accommodate more on futons if you need!). Though it is a family home, you will have a private small kitchen and bathroom, and also access to the family garden if you wish. There is also free internet, a DVD player with films to watch, a radio and a book swap. We can offer you a relaxing, private and peaceful space, whether you are an individual, couple, family or a larger group. Machynlleth itself is a pleasant market town surrounded by hills and at the edge of the beautiful Dyfi valley. As well as the Wednesday weekly market, there are plenty of shops, pubs and places to eat. Just outside of town there are many cycling, running and walking trails in the hills, mountains and forests, Europe's leading eco-centre the Centre for Alternative Technology, the RSPB Ynys-hir nature reserve (made famous on Springwatch!), two fantastic beaches at Aberdyfi and Ynyslas, and just a short distance away Aberystwyth, with its splendid Arts Centre. The house has nearby parking, is just 100 yards from the bus stop, and only a few minutes walk from the train station. Please note that we do not accept pets and as the rooms are on the third floor, the accommodation is not suitable for those with mobility problems. The stairs to the loft are steep. You can park outside the house to unload and then move the car to an off road car park a couple of hundred metres away. We are located on the main road, so there is some traffic noise during the day. Looking forward to seeing you!
  • Joan's place is outstanding. She is a wonderful host and provides generously in the kitchen, as well as placing really thoughtful touches throughout. We loved the unusual layout - and the extra games amenities upstairs. Joan has a great selection of DVDs. The location was perfect as we were visiting family very close by.

  • Joan was a fantastic host. Check in was super easy and her home was very clean. A central location in Machynlleth means you are close to all amenities. I would happily stay here again.

  • Joan place is full of interesting quirky things from her travels. The space is very comfortable with extra bonuses like a selection of dvd's and a fantastic playroom upstairs for children. The kitchen is stocked with all you need for a few days and Joan kindly left fruit, bread and milk for our use. It's a wonderful characterful place with great views from the kitchen! Will be returning!

Delightful 3 bedroom cedar chalet set in Snowdonia National Park between Aberdovey and Machynlleth. Located within quiet, spacious parkland with mature trees and views of the river Dovey valley to the west. The chalet is fully equipped just towels and bed linen required.
Traditional cedar chalet surrounded by woodland, with open views of the Dovey valley. The chalet is open plan with kitchen diner layout. The decking provides an alternative dining area, is sheltered and a real sun trap. A bubbling stream flows next to the chalet with lots of interest for kids. There is trees and shrubs between the chalets affording good privacy and large grassed areas in the middle of the site. The site is quiet with little traffic and a great place to relax and explore.
The chalet site is quiet, relaxed and friendly with great views to the west. The chalet site lies in a valley and is sheltered from winds. The decking provides a great sun trap in summer. The chalet site provides a good centre for walking or cycling directly from the site.

My place is situated in an idyllic spot in walking distance of local amenities and glorious walks. The back of the house, garden, kitchen and bedrooms look out over a meadow to the Afon Ceulan, a river running down from the Cambrian Mountains. "Duncan's converted bungalow is a tardis. It's a cute cottage from the outside and an airy, modern, spacious yet cosy retreat on the inside. The views are the icing on the cake" - Kathy, friend and fellow Airbnb Superhost.
You'll be sharing Ceulan View with my two well behaved pets, Willow and Marley. Willow is a 3 year old hypoallergenic cockapoo and Marley is a short haired cat who spends half the time outside I offer two rooms on Airbnb, so you can use this listing to book a private double room for single or double occupancy. Or please see 'Ceulan View - Two Double Rooms' to book both rooms at either single or double occupancy. Please note that if booking one room you may also be sharing communal spaces with another set of Airbnb guests.
The village is convenient because of it's easy access to the town of Aberystwyth via a regular bus route or one straight road for drivers. We are ten minutes from the glorious beach at Borth and Ynys Las which is around 3 miles long. Ceulan View is the ideal location to explore the Cambrian Mountains and we're just 20 minutes drive from Snowdonia National Park. We are lucky to have two local pubs and cafes in the village as well as a garage, local shop and hairdressers.
  • A beautiful home and lovely space to relax in, with a personal touch. Nice mountain views and a long beach about 10mins drive away. Friendly pets and a well stocked kitchen space with coffee maker in the cupboard too for coffee lovers. Even if Duncan is not there he gives quick responses and makes the effort to stop by. Whatever info you need just ask him, he left us a headlamp and a map for our night walk on the beach and compassionately allowed us a late check out after our late night excursion on New Years Eve.

  • Amazing host, the most relaxed dog I've ever seen and a beautiful place that's very comfortable. Great spot to recharge before going out to Snowdonia or heading to the coast.

  • Great host with clean and comfy accommodation. Thanks Duncan!

    Anne2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Duncan's for 2 weeks whilst doing some work for my PhD in the local area. It was a proper home base to come back to at the end of the day with everything I needed. The garden was lovely to sit out in and it was great to be greeted by the dog and cat every time I came back. I would definitely recommend Duncan's place to others and would stay there again if I was visiting the area.

Located in stunning and remote 'Artists Valley' (with Beavers) this charming Self Catering cottage is in a 75 acre conservation and permaculture site. We are surrounded by incredible wildlife and some rare species, and are demonstrating how to restore this precious land - producing food, beauty and habitat! With a Wood burner, Kitchen, Bathroom, Central Heating and unparalleled views - it is perfect for walking, a romantic break, nature or mountain biking holidays or as a rural family retreat.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are happy to visit respectfully and abide by these guidelines, read on; An hours walk to the nearest road, this place is for honest folk who are looking for a simple rural retreat. Ideal as well for riding groups who can stay overnight and keep horses in the field. From the beach to us it is a gorgeous days ride! Beaver Lodge is a rustic little self-contained Cottage with 2 main rooms - one room has 2 sets of bunk beds (sleeping 4 people), and the main living area with the wood burner has a comfy double bed and a 4-seater sofa. Potentially, it can sleep 7 (very good!) friends or a family, but better for 5 people sharing. This is great affordable accommodation for families with children or larger groups happy to bunk in together. Please note that for groups over 2 there is a small surcharge for extra folk to cover additional fuel use and hot water. Beaver lodge is warm, with a small but fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with bath and shower, and has a new instantaneous boiler (LPG) which provides constant hot water and runs the heating. To the side of the main living area is a quaint and unheated annex space with a dining table and chairs if needed - great on sunny days but pretty basic and a bit chilly in Winter :) this can easily be closed off from the main living area which is always very toasty with the real fire burning too! The annex also has a tumble dryer for when hiking gear gets soggy :) The Cottage has beautiful views to the South over the gardens and the stream.... children can be paddling and toasting marshmallows in view of the lounge window! The kitchen has an electric cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. All crockery and utensils are provided - and there is normally a good selection of herbs and condiments.... all you would need to do is pick up your main cooking ingredients and you are all set! There is no washing machine in the cottage, but for those on longer stays (5 days or more), please ask at the main house, and we would be happy to help. (£10 for a service wash ) Electricity is supplied on an (ancient!) coin meter - set at standard rate, so bring a few pounds and we can swap them for the old £1 coins that it takes :) Blankets duvets and pillows are supplied in abundance, and we recommend that where possible guests bring a sleeping bag or their own duvet and sheets from home. If this is not possible, we can provide sheets and pillowcases etc. for a laundry fee of £6.00 per person. The log basket is filled for short stays as part of the package, and there is a charge of £10 per 'barrow load' once these are used up. There is WIFI available in the cottage, with a reasonable connection (even possible to make internet video calls) - and the key is 'George77' The Cottage is kept clean - but is not the Ritz or sterile and impersonal! Definitely 'no frills' It is simple and honest - but we love it and our guests do too! For young families -please let us know if need to borrow our travel cot :) Please note that the £7 per night surcharge for extra guests also applies however small the people are, so BABIES AND TODDLERS ARE COUNTED AS AN EXTRA GUEST. This gorgeous space is for use by everyone at Blaeneinion and is perfect to relax in or check emails on wetter days - please see the photos :) There are lots of plants, a stereo system, some childrens toys (wooden train set has been a big hit!) jigsaws and a growing and eclectic mixture of books to enjoy. There are delicious home-made jams for sale in the Breakfast room, and please ask if you would like eggs or fresh produce produced on site. Please note that the drive up to Blaeneinion is 10 minutes along a stunning woodland valley single lane track, following the river in places, it is breathtaking, if not a little scary perhaps!? The road is tarmac and fine for all cars - just take it slowly and enjoy :~) We encourage folk to minimise car use - and are very happy to provide a taxi service to and from the station at Machynlleth within reasonable hours for £10 if you need it. Please get in touch if this is of interest. Also an apology that we cannot accept pets on site - we love animals and have lost both poultry and wild birds and animals from dog attacks. • Sharon's place has been a real blessing in these difficult times. Me and my girlfriend were able to find a cosy accommodation and a super friendly welcome here, away from all the madness that's sweeping the world right now (especially London, where we came from). Here we felt warm and happy and we could quietly and comfortably avoid any social contact in beautiful surroundings with folk who care and are conscious of keeping things clean and safe for everyone. Sharon has been so warm and welcoming and went to great lengths to accomodate us, the surrounding site is beautiful, we also adored the nature and wildlife in the surrounding, we even got to see some beavers in Sharon's conservation during feeding time which my girlfriend loved! This is such a perfect, secluded and welcoming hideaway for anyone that needs it. Highly recommended!

  • Welcome to nature. Homegrown veg. No sirens. No engines. Jus birdsong and running water to break up your thoughts. Friendly cats. Friendly chickens. Great hosts. Best Airbnb in the UK

  • I stayed in the cottage with my five daughters. It was really cozy and clean with plenty of space for all of us. There were many highlights for us: the chickens and geese, the friendly cats, the big swing and kayaks, and the big room with the piano and toys. We also loved foraging in the garden and the raw honey and homemade jam is delicious. Sharons hospitality and passion for her work and way of life is really heart warming and inspiring.

    Tiffany2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Quite literally perfect. We could not have been happier. Sharon is absolutely wonderful and an incredibly helpful and informative host. She made our anniversary the best it could have been. Blaeneinion is an amazing place. Great scenery, really incredible conservation and regeneration work going on. We're planning to revisit in Summer in the hope of catching the beavers next time! The cottage is cosy and has everything you need for a quiet retreat from the world.

  • Rustic cosy stone cottage is exactly as described. All you need for a real break from the pace of modern life and a chance to see some important ecological regeneration. Sharon was a warm and welcoming host and very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the holistic management of her land. I only wish we could have stayed longer and explored further.

  • We’ve been here twice now and both trips have been amazing. Blaeneinion is such a special place. Its wild energy draws you in and leaves you wanting to return. Sharon is an incredible host; kind, hard working, hospitable, selfless and fun. She goes the extra mile to enable her guests the best possible time and it really counts. Thank you :) Our children have loved running around, playing on the swings, feeding the chickens (and cats), getting muddy and spending time outdoors and away from the television! My husband and I have completely chilled out and loved being with the children and spending time away from the stresses of life. We even enjoyed a refreshing dip in the stream this time and it was wonderful. I’ve never been anywhere like this before and I can’t imagine that many places like it exist. It’s therapy for the soul. We will definitely be coming back.

  • It's my third time to stay at Blaeneinion with Sharon. It's a magical place and she is a fantastic host - so kind, caring and inspiring and makes you feel so welcome you think you are at home. I will keep on coming back. It's the best place in the world.
