“Thanks again Kara, for letting us stay at your amazing villa! My family vacationed in mid January. We checked-in to the AirBnb around 9pm and seeing the security guard, Gary, at the gate waving us down was a site for weary eyes. Gary was kind enough to walk alongside our car and help us park in the car port which is less than a minute from the gate. We had had a later flight that landed at 2pm at SJO and we stopped for dinner on the way but I definitely recommend trying to get in a bit earlier, like Kara suggested because the sun sets around 5/6pm. The LIB airport is closer to Guanacaste but we were heading back to SJO for the tail end of our trip. We rented a 8-person van for 5 people and our golf clubs. I definitely recommend getting a 4x4 for the country roads, they are a bit windy and less developed but the drive was, literally, our favorite part of exploring the country (we love off-roading, authentic fruit stands, farms and adventure!). Most cars/van windows are not tinted so we used our beach towels to cover our luggage and we never ran into any security issues. We were also smart about keeping our personal items on our person in a fanny pack or parking within line-of-site at restaurants/cafes. Kara's villa was quite the retreat for us. Waking up with the sun and looking out at the breathtaking views from the panoramic sliding windows and falling asleep to the rhythmic rain, I needed this vacation so badly. Took a dip in the crystal clean pool and got some amazing shots. Also recommend bringing a light rain jacket (early morning showers are what makes everything vibrantly green here) and sturdy water shoes for hiking and hot springs, saved our lives! Never forget bug spray and sunscreen. Temperatures ranged from mid 70s-90s. My father was so inspired by the high ceilings and beautiful kitchen that he cooked breakfast for us! Something he hasn't done for us in over 20 years. Needless to say, my mom was glowing. We had gotten groceries from the local supermarket and fruit (papaya, banana maca, passion fruit, melons, mango, pineapple) from local vendors, about 10 min. away by car. I don't know if Kara somehow timed the double rainbows as well but that was the special touch for us :) Toucans, howler monkeys, iguanas and froggers! I absolutely recommend visiting Tabacon hot springs and eating at Le Bistro on the way. We also had the chance to golf at beautiful Hacienda Pinilla (back 9 is where the views are at) and Valle del Sol (San Jose), highly recommend. Also, thank you to Kara for replacing the air mattress. My boyfriend got a lot of rest so he was nice and relaxed when he proposed to me at Monteverde. We hit up majestic Catarata del Torro on the way back to San Jose and all I have to say is, I hope I can come back to see all of the other regions we missed. Best trip of my life!!!! Lastly, make sure you get your souvenirs/coffee/chocolate locally because they'll slam you with inflated costs at the airport for last-minute gifts, 2-3x the actual price. Tico's are so kind and generous, seriously, Pura Vida.”
This spacious home is known for one of the most stunning views there are in El Castillo. Whether you are looking out of its prominent balcony or large kitchen windows. Always breezy without the need for air condition. With large private garden.
“Tomas' home is incredible. The home is very stylish and has all the amenities you will need to enjoy your stay. The small town around the home is charming and everyone is friendly. The master bedroom and bath is huge and the tub has an incredible view. Both beds are comfortable and the living and dining area are open and well appointed. And last but not least the VIEW is incredible, you will find yourself looking at the birds, lake, and volcano for hours. If this place is available book it now!”
Our home is one of the top-rated in Costa Rica. Guests enjoy splendid views and privacy yet are close to many attractions and amenities. Experience an "authentic" Tico experience in a picturesque and friendly village just 7 km from Arenal Volcano.
“El Castillo en Las Nubes is located on a prime piece of real estate up in the mountains of El Castillo, with a killer view of the lake and volcano. Everything about the place is serene and relaxing, with immaculate landscaping and a clean, spacious home. The closed in porch with windows was a favorite spot of ours, giving us the flexibility to enjoy the nice breeze or just sit and watch the sudden weather changes with the windows closed. If you're looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place to do it. Some things to note: at least when we stayed, the house next door was under construction, so it was a little noisy from about 8am to 4/5pm on weekdays, but it wasn't all that bad. You should definitely have a rental car for this portion of your trip, and know that the roads leading up to the home, as advertised, are very rough--just take it slow. You will have to drive 30-45 minutes to most activities in the La Fortuna area, but it's well worth it. El Castillo is a nice small town, and there are lots of amazing restaurants nearby (definitely stop at La Ventanita for a burrito and milkshake). Lastly, though we didn't meet them, the hosts, Tomas and Anita, were quick to respond and very helpful answering questions. And John's instructions after booking were extremely thorough and helpful. Come here to get a little distance from the tourists and soak in the peace and quiet. Don't miss the chance to enjoy this place!”
