Rio Escondido is located in the Boquete District near the town of Caldera. This incredible home rests on a bluff overlooking the New Chiriqui River. The river is about 400 meters from the house. The property is about 30 minutes from the cities of Boquete and David and the town of Caldera is only 5 minutes away. The house has everything you can ask for in a true vacation getaway and the property is a nature lovers dream. Rio Escondido is also a model of Off-Grid living as we are 100% Solar.
“Walter and his wife met us in town and led us to the property. Walter was super helpful in explaining how everything worked, showing us all the amenities, and giving us local tips. He was really nice and helpful. The house is in a valley with a very steep drive from the road (a 4x4 is a must). Once you get there, the views are breathtaking. The house is gorgeous and well constructed. The two bedrooms are spacious and comfortable- the master bedroom and bathroom (with an outside shower) are just beautiful. We traveled with another couple, so we tossed a coin for the master suite. They won. The other bedroom was nice/totally fine, but on Walter’s advice, we slept in the spare bed out in the common area (it has a half wall for privacy)- it was fantastic to wake up to the view, surrounded by mountains. The wind was strong during our stay, but we still slept with windows open. The house is spotless, and it has everything you need, including an amazing sound system. The solar array provided all the electricity we needed (including hair driers, toaster oven, etc-we were mindful but not deprived of anything). We only used the pool briefly, due to the wind. We walked down to the river- it was an easy walk, not challenging at all. The security wall and gate were reassuring features being in such a remote area. It was a little farther from Boquete than we expected, about 40 minutes. We loved everything about it. Thank you Walter and Chester!”

“Very nice place! Great value. There are horses, dogs, chickens and geese on the property. Very relaxing spacious environment. I felt at home there. All good things to say about La Ponderosa!!”
From the 200 sq. ft. shared terrace, savor your coffee while enjoying the highland getaway and the unique view of the quaint little town of Boquete. The connecting loft, has a full kitchenette with basic appliances, a small living room, and a laundry area. The rooms, located on the bottom floor are independent. The “Butterfly Sanctuary” has a large closet and a queen bed. The “Hummingbird Haven” has a queen bed, a single bed and a LED TV with cable.
“Gisela's house is located above the city of Boquete offering a stunning view of it from the shared terrace. We saw a full rainbow over the city every night we were there. The kitchen living room space is lovely as it is very well lit and is a welcoming and comfortable area. The WiFi was great. The space is actually split in 2. The kitchen and living room are on the main floor behind the shared terrace and next door to the other Airbnb spot. The bathroom and bedrooms are out around and down the building on the bottom floor which must be reached from the outside. The main bed is very comfortable although small. We made it work and had good sleeps. The shower is a suicide one but had enough of a stream of warm water to get us clean. The bathroom sink does not have hot water ( neither does the kitchen one). Gisela provides drinking water (which is fantastic). There are also a washer and dryer in the kitchen which work well. Gisela is a wonderful host and communicator. We had a great time at Gisela's and would recommend her place.”
