The Riverside Bothie is nestled on the banks of the Wakamarina River in Canvastown , Marlborough Built on the site of a former gold miner's hut, the Riverside Bothie enables guests to have a glamping experience, see nature close up and explore the beautiful rural countryside and historical gold mining area that is Canvastown. We are a retired couple living nearby on the property and meet and greet our guests on arrival with a breakfast basket and to introduce our Riverside Bothie.
“An absolute dream of a stay! From the cute puppies who greeted us, to the view, to the wonderful cabin. They called it “Glamping” but it was much much more luxurious than that. (For example, the hot water in the shower never ran out. That was a dream come true after our long day.) They also had fresh eggs, fresh baked bread, fresh orange juice... the list of little joys goes on and and. And the river is RIGHT THERE. With a kayak ready for you to use and explore. The hospitality and advice about the area was also immensely valuable. This stay was one of the highlights of our trip.”

“Like everywhere else during our stay in New Zealand, we would have loved to have had more time with John and Maree ... firstly, the accommodation has everything you need for a longer stay and secondly, the Marlborough Sounds deserve more than just a day ... The accommodation was clean, very spacious and had good facilities ... Maree was very friendly and gave good tips ...”
We offer you a unique accommodation, sleeping barrels, situated on a 2 hectare permaculture lifestyle block. We are a family of five, working towards self sufficiency, using the permaculture principles. Finally, we finished building and our guests can now fully enjoy not only the cabins, but also the unique facilities! Glamping at its finest. This is an ongoing project, so it will get better and better over time - we are excited to share it...from the cabins, over vegetables and art!
“What a great little place to stop for a weekend! Annika & Luke’s hospitality was excellent with thoughtful touches everywhere, from fresh eggs from the chickens to a wheelbarrow of firewood for the fire/bbq/heater and a little shop with beautiful homegrown & handmade products. The kitchen had a full compliment of pots, pans, sharp knives, crockery and cutlery, which made meal prep a breeze. My 4yo loved having some buddies to hang out with & toasting marshmallows in the fire at night was also a highlight. We hit a particularly cold weekend but the cabin was warm, with a little heater to keep us toasty. Would definitely love to visit again.”
