Our lovely two-room teak bungalow is located on the Thai bank of the Mekong River in Nong Khai, Thailand. The house has a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and a spacious closed-in veranda overlooking the Mekong River. The bedroom has one king-sized bed that is comfortable for a couple. The house is located about 8 km. from Nong Khai town. Transportation from bus or train stations, or from the Friendship Bridge is generally available, as is transportation from Udon Thani airport.
“My husband and I travel permanently and have stayed in more Airbnbs and hotels than we can count. Richard's Airbnb is the best place we've stayed in. We stayed here for one month in Sept/Oct. Here's why we loved it: - Richard is the most super of superhosts. He is warm, welcoming, friendly and has thought of everything. We shared a few meals with him, plus some extended tea sessions, as well as some lovely chats randomly throughout our visit. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and has stories that Hollywood would be interested in! He is also very helpful if you want to engage with the local community, such as offering food to the monks at 6am every morning, volunteering in a local school, and more. You just have to ask. - Richard's team is amazing: Buacel is his right-hand man, and is wonderful. He picked us up from Udon Thani airport (500 THB) and also took us out for an entire day's exploration on our wedding anniversary (500 THB + fuel). Bo manages the compound and cleaned for us, doing a basic clean for free and a deep clean (dusting + bathroom) for 100 THB. She is available to clean everyday, but we arranged two days a week which was perfect. Bo is available to drive too, and took us into Nong Khai (300THB return) for explorations and our weekly Tesco Lotus run, as well as doing our laundry for us (included in the price) with usually same-day turn-around. - The house itself: Richard built this house a few years ago and it is entirely made of teak. It is a work of art in its own right. There is a front room with a dining table and a seating area, with tinted windows so you can see out but no one can see in. The main room is one large space, with a dining area and kitchen on one side, and the bed on the other. There is a seating area with TV and computer in the middle, and a bathroom to the back. The kitchen is small but well stocked, the bed is very comfortable and the TV setup is great (we watched Netflix during our month's stay and enjoyed the big screen!). The bathroom is a spacious wet-room with plenty of space for toiletries, and powerful hot water. There are fans in both sections of the house, and 2 aircon units in the main room. We worked at our laptops in the front room, and found that having the aircon in the main room cooled the front room enough for us to work comfortably. Powercuts are rare, and even when they happen the wifi stays on as there is a battery for it. Amazing! Plus, the internet speed was *excellent*: 28Mbs up and 16Mbs down. - The amenities: Richard lent us two bikes, one of which was electric which was ideal given a knee injury makes pedalling difficult. He also let us use his drone for some fun sunset photography, and gave us the use of two teapots as we're seriously into tea. Plus, Richard has a bunch of chickens who are prolific egg layers, and if you are lucky you may end up with a lot of really, really good eggs. ;-) - The location: The house is RIGHT on the Mekong, so stepping out to watch the sunset couldn't be easier. There are very cute local kids who will come help you appreciate it by practising their few words of English! The road that runs along the river is very quiet, so a safe place for walking or cycling. Practically a bike path. There are fish farms along the river too, so if you fancy fresh fish then that's available. Down the river road there are 3-4 restaurants with terraces over the river, so you can watch the sunset or enjoy the afternoon breezes over delicious food. The menus are only in Thai, but Google Translate + smiles served us well! In the other direction, along the main road, there is a little restaurant that has a menu in English and tasty food. They also deliver (they are on LINE) and EXTREMELY cheap/great value. Ordering from there, we spent ~90THB for a full meal for two people. There are also several wats (temples) nearby, a few tiny shops within walking distance, a Tesco Express a few km away, and the delicious Natit Bakery down the road (a bit too far to bike, but easy enough on a motorbike). NOTE: The house is NOT in Nong Khai, it is about 15 minutes' drive away. This was perfect for us, as it meant it was quiet, peaceful, the air quality was great, and we felt like we were in Thailand, not in a tourist bubble. This is not to impugn Nong Khai! It is a really lovely little town with a nice selection of restaurants, an enormous Tesco Lotus + shopping centre, a beautiful riverside walk, fun market, and of course the Sala Keo Kou Buddhist sculpture park outside of town (worth a trip to NK just for that). Of course it's also very convenient to move on to Vientiane the capital of Laos. We can't wait to return, and feel like not only did we have an amazing month, we also made an amazing friend! Thank you for everything Richard!”

“Keang is a kind host, the communication and check-in was easy and pleasant. The apartment is nice and clean, the Wifi stable. The location is great; near the village like Mall UD Town with a big food court, KFC, McDonalds, a big Tesco Lotus Supermarket, Village Market for western food, Burgerking. The Railway station is also at UD Town and its easy to catch bus or taxi to the airport. The Central Plaza market is not far way. I´m a runner, so the Chaloem Prakiat Park with his beautiful lake and the thai-chinese cultural center was a beautiful running track at sunrise or sunset. A 24-hour opend 7-11 convenient store is direct at the condo and a daily open market at the street. My wife and me were in his guests the second time. It will be our option again, if the room is free in our next vacay in Udon.”

“Five stars all around. The place itself is fantastic, I’m seriously considering buying a unit in this building because I love everything about it. Centrally located, clean, safe, quiet, immaculate pool. As for Charles, well you don’t want to come to Udon without at least meeting the guy. Best host ever. Was waiting for me at the airport. I asked if I might borrow a push bike, he turned up the next morning with one. He gave me every tip I needed to enjoy Udon. This guy knows everything about the area.”
