Stunning cove near Hahei. A good walk required to get there (around 1/2 an hour) or you can arrive by boat!
STUNNINGLY beautiful. 40 minute walk from the carpark in Hahei (Hahei is a 25 min drive from Tairua). Extremely popular, this needs to be done around low tide. Advisable to plan to go earlier in the day if tides are suitable, because carpark gets full with a 30-40 min wait for parks. Buses will go from Tairua but you have to book in advance.
Stunning views of the Coromandel coast guide you to the dramatic cliffs and iconic rock archway of Cathedral Cove. This is one of best short walks in New Zealand. It’s a 2.5 km, 1 ½ hour return easy walk. You can also reach Cathedral Cove by boat or kayak from Whitianga or water taxi from Hahei. Note: The car park is closed annually from 1 October – 30 April. A park and ride shuttle bus service operates from the visitor car park at the entrance to Hahei village. ** Combine your visit to Cathedral Cove with a visit to nearby Hot Water Beach.
