Tabacalera is a contemporary cultural centre in a huge antique building which was previously used as a massive tobacco factory. Its main purposes are to promote local artists production and also to offer and interesting and diverse cultural program. There's a variety of cultural labs, expositions, a cinema hall, a concert hall, a bookshop, a library, a very nice coffee shop, food outlets, and an outstanding terrace with breathtaking views of the city on the fourth level.

An impressive space for art, photography, film, family toys and games, food, viewing platforms and more in the neighbourhood of Egia. At the moment there is a hands-on kids' exhibition by Emma Kunz, where little ones can learn and experiment with art movement, colours, the senses. Sign up for guided sessions on weekends at 12 and 17:00 or go for free access Tues- Sunday 12:00-14:00 & 16:00-19:00. One of our favourite rainy day plans to hang out inside with family! Try the giant pizzas in the downstairs cafe at lunchtime or grab soups and salads for a quick healthy lunch. The top-floor restaurant, Labe ( Basque for oven) is linked to the Basque Culinary Institute and all my friends give it rave reviews. I love their green, tropical terrace with fairy lights and relaxed atmosphere above the noise of the city. Book early on their website. The Cubik creativity library and Media lab on the second floor gives free access to books, boardgames, toys, musical instruments, games consoles, films and lots more ( Go to medialab section on Tabakalera website if you want to book a very specific item). There are even table tennis tables somewhere on one of the landings. Check out story and drama workshops for children too. ( Pre-covid) My children liked running and scooting around the open spaces in the modern side of the building and climbing the beautiful sweeping wooden stairs in the original building entrance. On a dry day, the Cristina Enea park is just over the road. There's a play are at the entrance as well as a duck pond a few minute walk up into the park. You might be able to spot some peacocks here.
