Tips from locals
This is a great hike that starts from Harpers Ferry Rd along the Potomac River on the Maryland side. It's a 2-1/2 mile hike each way and is well worth the trip. It's best suited for active adults and children. This is not a "walk in the park" kind of hike. You can make the hike longer by adding in the loop to see the Old Stone Fort, ruins from the Civil War.
a beautiful (but somewhat strenuous) hike to an overlook, full of history (the union and confederacy battled over this hill for years), and an amazing view of the town of harpers ferry from the top.
Amazing views of Harpers Ferry, where the Shenandoah River joins the Potomac. Short hike to overlook. Really worth the climb.
If you get a chance to hike Maryland Heights, while steep in some parts, you won't regret it. The overlook features panoramic views of Maryland, WV and Virginia- and the point where the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers join to one.
