Famous for the story of American parachutist who landed on the village church. Captured alive but escaped adays later to be posted elsewhere duing the conflict. Fascinating story and great museum in the town.
This was the first commune liberated on D-Day and subject of the film: The Longest Day. Rather touristy. They still hang a manequin of parachutist John Steele on the church
An American paratrooper famously got entangled on the church spire here during the D Day landings.
