Tips from locals
Captain Cook stopped here on his voyage in 1769 , this is adjacent to Tolaga Bay wharf 50k from Gisborne A walking track of 5.8k return is available from after Labour Weekend to end of July (closed for Lambing). Hole in the wall with safe swimming.
In summer, this is the best trekking/swimming/sight seeing activity around Gisborne. It is a full-day activity.
This is a brilliant walk for the average walker. Once you reach the top the lookout the view of the Tologa Bay Wharf is amazing. Well worth the climb. Pack a picnic, take good walking gear and warm clothing in case the weather changes. The walkway is closed during lambing season if they are mustering. Please check online before planning your trip.
