If you like engineering you will love it. It stops central London flooding. If you live East of it, well, remember your Wellies. Don't like engineering? There is a very pleasant park and coffee shop.

A short walk across Royal Dock's and you can access the beautiful Thames Barrier Park. With lots of areas to relax and even have a picnic whilst watching the traffic moving in and out of the Thames. You may even be lucky to catch a cruise ship or a seal !

The Thames Barrier is located downstream of central London, United Kingdom. Operational since 1982, its purpose is to prevent the floodplain of all but the easternmost boroughs of Greater London.

The Thames Barrier spans 520 metres across the Thames with 10 steel gates which are raised monthly for testing. There is an exhibition with a 10-minute video and a working scale model.
