Looking for a great trail to walk in DC? Try the C&O Canal Trail that meets up with the Capitol Crescent Trail by the Waterfront and heads up to Bethesda.

Ask most D.C. locals, and they won't even know this exists. Operating as a shipping canal from 1831 until 1924, this is a great place to escape from the crowds for a nice, picturesque walk.

A great place to walk. Completely flat, the canal trail runs from Georgetown in DC all the way to Pittsburgh. It's right alongside the river, so the views are great. Have to drive to get there, about 40 min.

Easy to walk from Arlington to Georgetown or head the opposite way in Maryland. Check out the spectacular houses across the river as you walk.
