Often called the “Gateway to Glengarry”, this landing was settled in 1778 by the Faulkner family from Lancashire, England. First called the Faulkner Settlement, it went on to have many names including Rivière Raisin, Kirk Town, Lancaster, South Lancaster and Lower Village. When the railroad station opened in 1854, the community became divided, creating Lancaster and South Lancaster.
