Why locals recommend it
In the ’70s and ’80s, BBQ King was open until late, and with its excellent food—some of the best roast duck, suckling pig, and pork in the city—it was an iconic chefs’ hangout. The food is just as amazing today, though they’ve moved locations. The new restaurant is only a year old but it’s still got the greasy heart and soul of the old spot. The menu is extensive and many-paged, but I always dive into barbecue pork with noodles and chilli, with a nice cold beer. It’s the perfect stop-off for a late dinner after work—you can arrive, pull up a chair, and be home within the hour.
Tips from locals
An in expensive old school style of Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Open very late and visited by some of Sydney's best chefs after their restaurant has closed. Basic decor but food is good.
Traditional Chinese food in a no-frills eatery. Take advantage of the late opening hours here — they don't close until midnight — and swing by for a late meal. Or, you can order take away from the menu to eat at home in front of the TV.
