Fort Lamar Historic Preserve

Tips from locals
This Heritage Preserve protects one of the very few important Civil War sites in the state. It is built around the remains of an old Civil War fort constructed in 1862 as part of James Island's defense. A short hiking trail takes you to some of the area's historic sites. Additionally, you can get a nice view of the marsh at a few spots along the way.
