One of our favorite spots to spend a day/afternoon at. Take the ferry over, walk/bike around, enjoy the hammocks, and great food & drink joints scattered around the north of the island. Beautiful views of Manhattan, the statue of Liberty / NJ, and brooklyn, and a wonderful way to get "away" from the city.

Traveler advice

Don't miss

A Day tour idea - Museums, Central Park, Times Square

Central Park (and neighboring museums), and finish the day in Time Square (TSQ), as the night comes in and all the screens / lighting become truly impressive. Check a broadway show, or finish with a drink at the Rockefeller tower (an alternate to the Empire State building, with no lines, and wonderful views with a glass of champagne or cocktail in hand).
Don't miss

A Day Tour idea - Chelsea, Meatpacking, WV, Soho, Chinatown

My favorite “tour” is the High line, starting with the Whitney museum, followed by a walk down the High line, lunch at the Chelsea market, and then going down through the Meatpacking district, West Village, and then Soho (and finally Little Italy / Chinatown if you have it in you).  The Stnadard Hotel on the High line is also great for a cocktail with a view, or a beer at the beer garden. Their restaurant is very good too.  Chinatown has great food (favorites are Joe’s Shanghai, Noodle Village, Nom Wah Tea Parlor). Finish your day with a great cheap Chinese massage ($45/hr) at Renew Day SPA
Don't miss

A Day tour idea - Wall Street

Wall Street area: Wall Street / Battery Park, Freedom tower, the Calatrava Civic Center (very impressive, has a mall inside) and the World Trade Center memorial (& museum), all of which is in the same neighborhood. You can also take the Staten Island Ferry both ways to see the Statue of Liberty up close (I believe the ferry is still free today)
Don't miss

A Day Tour idea - Williamsburg, Downtown BK / Prospect Park

Williamsburg is a great neighborhood to walk around, check stores along Bedford st. Grab a bite at one of the many great restaurants, check out Domino park, and hop over to one of the hotels near the water for breathtaking views & fun cocktails. My favorite bar is Lemon's, on the rooftop of the Wythe Hotel. You can then venture to Dumbo (downtown BK) / Cobble hill, or head towards Prospect Park (Brooklyn Museum, BK Botanical Gardens)
Don't miss

Some insider ideas / Favorites

- Sleep no More. An alternative to Broadway shows, this is a very different, somewhat spooky but also uniquely memorable experience where the spectator is part of the play (based on McBeth), exploring 5 floors of sets for 3+ hours. A must! - Fancy cocktails at the Boom Boom room (Standard Hotel on the High line). Fantastic views (great alternate to the Empire State or Freedome Tower) - Walking & shopping at the Oculus (Wall street) - High Line walk & Chelsea Market - Smorgasburg - Drinks on a Hotel rooftop near the water in Williamsburg - summertime: A day at Governor's Island
Book before you go

Museums, some restaurants, Broadway shows

Since covid, most museums now require advance ticket reservations. Check which days they are closed as well. Some restaurants require booking. Restaurants in our neighborhood do not require reservations.
Getting around

Beware of express vs local trains

Some trains, like the yellow & green lines have express trains and local trains. Express trains skip some stops so make sure to pay attention which letter/number train you hop in on.
