  • Tracey is a great host, with excellent communication from booking through to meeting us when we arrived. The lodge is lovely, extremely clean and modern throughout and the hot tub is a great added extra. Plus, the scones waiting for us on arrival we’re beautiful! We had a lovely, relaxing weekend and would definitely return again in the future!

  • Tracey and David were fantastic from the check-in to check-out . Extremely accommodating and once checked in, left us to enjoy our stay . The suggestions were spot on, we had an incredible meal at the Tudor Farmhouse and plenty of grounds to take our dog for a walk. Gloucester in general is a lovely scenic area . The cottage is extremely cute , especially as it was our 5 year anniversary . The Hot Tub was all prepared for us and lovely. It feels as though you are in the middle of nowhere, lovely and peaceful, yet a short drive from the nearest town and local amenities - perfect. Would highly recommend this as a getaway for any couple , honestly amazing . Thank you both

  • Great place for a getaway, smell of fresh air and an amazing soothing surrounding.

  • Absolutely amazing stay at the Mill Garden Lodge. I surprised my boyfriend with this for his birthday and Tracey was absolutely amazing, she sorted out some personalised balloons to be at the lodge for arrival and also delicious cake and locally brewed beer for his birthday. The hot tub was amazing, even in the unfortunate storm we had on our stay, we still managed to get into the hot tub and relax! Can’t recommend enough. Thank you very much Tracey for everything you did, it really did make the weekend extra special for my boyfriends birthday.

    Katie2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Tracey was a fantastic host and the lodge is absolutely fantastic. Spotlessly clean and all the facilities you need. The hot tub is well worth the extra money - we spent many an hour relaxing next to the stream in the warmth of the tub. Tracey had left us some home made brownies which were delicious. When she found out it was my partners 30th (on the day of arrival) she left a birthday banner and some locally brewed beer as a birthday treat. Could not fault the whole experience!

    Chris2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Tracey and David! Right from the start you were the most welcoming hosts. Great little touches from the most amazing chocolate brownies we’ve ever tasted to being kind enough to taxi us to and from the Farmers Boy Inn, so that we could celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. The lodge is located in the best place. There is so much to see and do in the local area. Highly recommend this little find. ☺️

  • Trudy & Ian’s Annex was amazing. I had booked it for my partner’s birthday & he absolutely fell in love with it as did I. The whole place was beautiful, everything worked great. It was lovely and warm, the jacuzzi was amazing. I can’t think of one negative thing to say about this place! The little touches like the breakfast bits just made it that little bit extra special! It’s also amazing if you have dogs too as it’s dog friendly which I loved! We will deffo be coming back here if we’re ever in the area.

    Lisa2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay and great hospitality. Trudy and Ian are very welcoming and happy to help with anything you ask. Pet friendly with shower facilities and treats on arrival. Comfortable bed to sleep and lovely shower facilities. Very recommend for anyone wishing to have a night away.

  • Trudy, Ian and pets were so friendly, super welcoming upon arrival and all the way through our four day stay. We Brough our cat with us (Milo), he seemed to enjoy himself and it was nice to have the opportunity to bring him along! Trudy and Ian's hosting skills were amazing, especially as it was our first time using Airbnb. 100% recommending the annex and we plan to return later in the year, Trudy and Ian were full of recommendations of where to visit and local pubs with good food!

Our self-contained annex has two bedrooms and sleeps four. Set in rolling hills in the beautiful Wye Valley with stunning views. A large meadow, play area, heated indoor pool ( April-Sept) & outdoor Jacuzzi hot tub, and great pub just five minutes walk away make it a fabulous rural retreat!
May Hill View S/C Annex is just a five-minute drive from the picturesque market town of Ross on Wye and five minutes from M50 junction 3. There is a vast array of things to do on your doorstep. Historical Hereford, Gloucester and Worcester with their famous cathedrals. The castles of Goodrich, Raglan, Chepstow and Eastnor. Tintern Abbey and various National Trust and English Heritage sites all near. The ancient Forest of Dean is a magnet for horse riding, walkers and cyclists and for golfers there are two fabulous courses literally a two-minute drive away. Opportunities for lake and river fishing are just nearby. Canoeing and cruising on the nearby River Wye are also very popular. Symonds Yat Rock, May Hill, the Malvern Hills, the Black Hills and Brecon Beacons are just a short drive away. The Annex is approx 30 metres away from the main house. It is private and has its own entrance. Cosy and warm (electric blankets too!) with all the usual amenities. The kitchen area has an undercounter fridge with small freezer compartment, a two ring hob, a kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, a toaster and a microwave which is also an oven. All utilities are included in the price, also essentials such as beverages, milk, cereals, condiments, cooking oil, washing up liquid. A Welcome cake on arrival! Also a lovely Jacuzzi hot tub which is available all year round for sole guest use to relax in and do a little star gazing! These are both by arrangement at times that are mutually convenient.
There is a lovely pub, the Moody Cow, which recently appeared in the Guardian newspaper as one of the top 50 places to have Sunday lunch is a five-minute walk up the road. It is advisable to book ahead as gets very busy at the weekend especially. There are several local footpaths. With the Round Ross Trail a minute from the front of the property.
  • Such a cute place to stay and relax! Sonya is so lovely and welcoming and gave us some great ideas of things to do during our stay. Unfortunately we didn't use the hot tub due to the weather but it is a lovely hot tub and very easy to use with a scenic view. Luckily the weather didn't stop us from having a lovely weekend! Thank you so much Sonya!

    Lucy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here was an absolutely magical experience - the Annex is beautiful, cosy and super clean. Sonya was the perfect host, lovely to speak to, thoughtful (personal touches noted!) and so accommodating. The amenities were plentiful, with everything you could think of. For anyone with children, the Annex is an absolute gold mine - lots of games, DVDs, books and toys for hours of entertainment. The hot tub is the finishing touch - it is LUSH! It lives right by the Annex but is very private as it's surrounded by shrubs/greenery. You can enjoy looking up at the night sky if you fancy going for a dip in the evening, or look out into the fields by day. I'd encourage anyone looking into staying here to go for it, it was an amazing experience and we look forward to coming back!

  • We had a lovely stay here for two nights! The location and Annex are lovely, sparking clean and very cozy! Sonya had added some lovely touches including but not limited to home made fudge and apple juice. The hot tub is perfect and with great views from it, lovely on a cold winters night. The local pub is a must visit for fantastic food and friendly staff. With Sonya being a delightful host to wrap it all together!

    Andy2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic stay with friends, when we arrived we received a friendly welcome. The highlight for us was the hot tub, especially at night to gaze up at the stars on a clear night. The location was spot on for some great walks and a short distance to a smashing pub which served top quality food.

Forest of Dean cottage with flag stone floors and open fire. Pet friendly. Small private courtyard with all day sunshine exclusive use of wood-fired sauna, hot tub, BBQ & firepit. Convenient village location with late shops and take-aways but close to forest walks, biking, lakes and sculpture trail
The cottage is a great, quiet weekend get away with 2 bedrooms and a double sofa bed in the sitting room. The dining room is furnished in a retro style with a well-equipped galley kitchen. The cottage is funky and unconventional with bedrooms that are themed - birds of paradise, vintage rose and woodland sheepskin.
Quirky village - not picturesque but has all the amenities you might need for a weekend away, such as take aways, late co-op with off-licence and pharmacy etc. But has good walks up the hills behind the village and great access to the Royal Forest of Dean and nearby Herefordshire.
  • What a great cottage. Perfect for families. Hot tub and sauna a special bonus. Dog proof garden was brilliant. Very comfortable bed in the main bedroom, the sheets were so crisp and wonderful to sleep in. We would stay here again

    Katherine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z

  • Perfect getaway with the family, then some chill time in the hot tub and sauna in the evening. Local shops walking distance great place to stay!

    Robert2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Not enough superlatives. Such a beautiful space and the hot tub/sauna combo is incredible. Best hot tub I've been in. Zoff was really helpful and sent back belongings that we left there. Highly, highly recommend staying here

    Sean2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • I would really recommend a stay at Zoff's cottage. It is the perfect relaxing get-away, being a stone's throw away from all the major attractions in the Forest of Dean. The cottage has two sitting rooms ( one being the dining room but it also has 2 sofas) so it was handy to have another room for teenagers to be in. The lounge is really cosy with a roaring open fire and we enjoyed the retro games which are provided - Spirogram was a blast from the past! Of course the best part was the wood fired sauna and hot tub which are well maintained and situated in the small private courtyard/garden. A perfect place to relax for a weekend get-away. Many thanks Zoff!

    Sarah2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Zoff’s place was perfect for our chilled girls’ weekend. The delux hot tub and amazing sauna added a bit of luxury to our stay. The gaff is in a perfect location to explore the Forest of Dean with lots of lovely walks etc near by. The house was super cosy and had everything we needed. We had a fab weekend and would definitely recommend Zoff as a host: he was so welcoming, always quick to respond, helpful and made sure we had everything we needed including a couple of extras that we requested. Thanks again for a great stay!

    Nancy2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days away here. The hot tub and sauna allow for a very relaxing stay. The cottage was clean with comfy beds and a well furnished kitchen. If we needed any information Zoff was at the end of the phone to help straight away. I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone and we will be returning in the near future

  • A gem of a find with this beautiful cottage. Thank you to Tracey for being so friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The extra special touches like a homemade cake, bread and milk waiting for us and Christmas Decorations throughout the cottage made it extra special. Tracey greeted us on arrival and showed us around and explained everything, she also gave us some good tips on where to eat and visit. The cottage is spacious and was spotless and had everything you could possibly need. We loved the log burner. The location was perfect set in beautiful gardens and close to lots of places to visit. The hot tub was a fab extra. We would definitely love to return and would definitely recommend to anyone. Thank you Tracey and David for letting share your beautiful cottage. Come here! It's peaceful and relaxing and great for walking. Lots of old world pubs and pretty villages. Stroll by the river Wye or climb the Brecon Beacons!
Comfortable older house on a very quiet street. A light, airy room which gets full morning sun. Cosy double bed, kettle, teas and coffee. Writing table and upholstered chairs. Plenty of storage and hanging space.
A very peaceful neighbourhood on the edge of Ross on Wye ,yet within 15 minutes' walk of the town centre.
  • What a lovely host, room and location. Everything including Janie the host were warm and delightful. The walk to town was easy and pleasant and the room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Good value too. Highly recommended.

  • You can expect a very friendly host whose house is ideally based in the small town of Ross on Wye. From Janies house you can be in the centre within 5 minutes and the countryside even less than that. The room itself as well as the amenities are well excellent and you will feel at home.

  • Janie's home is on a quiet street, with ample parking. It's very clean, with the use of a private bathroom. Comms and check-in were great, even though I arrived late at night. Excellent for the price

I have a bed sittingroom over my garage which is detached from my cottage . Decent sized room, dining table/ chairs etc. Shower + toilet Kitchenette. Own front door from outside parking area. No TV as yet . Wifi being set up. Excellent situation on edge of the Forest of Dean. .... you need a car but good walks/ cycling close by. Plenty of pubs. I can try and help with anything you need to know and make tea or coffee any time!!
I can add one small bed for a child but flat not toddler friendly because of stairs , no gates and garden very wild and steep. Babies no problem.
The neighbour is beautiful, full of trees , walks , rivers a d not far from Welsh border, Worcestershire and the Cotswolds. Horse racing.. Chepstow, Cheltenham not too far.
  • This place is fantastic! We really enjoyed it, there are lots of thoughtful touches and it’s a really cosy space. I’d highly recommend it!

  • Ruth is very nice and helpful. The location is slight difficult to find but you can simply give her a call and she will find you. It is a 15 minutes walk down to town centre with take away, restaurants and supermarkets. There is even a great view for sunrise with her place. You will have your own cabin with private bathroom, kitchen and "living dining bedroom". There is even heat mat on the bathroom and kitchen floors. It is so sweet. Breakfast and some fruits, TV, WiFi are included. The kitchen is fully equipped. There are too much to say. You should try living yourself. It is a place and a cabin that I definitely want to go again and again.

    Kevin2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and peaceful, value for money, good location for forest, Ruth is a great host.

    Thomas2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth is a great host, and this is an amazingly good value venue. The main room is spacious and comfortable. We will return.

    Mandy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot in the woods with an amazing view, and still close to everything in the Forest.

    Garrett2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent communication from Ruth, she helped me find the place and also gave me locals advice on where/where not to eat. A compact but functional and very comfortable place to stay. I would visit again.

A self-contained, detached studio on the edge of the river Wye featuring your own wet room, Nespresso machine and kitchen. Ideal for all visitors to Herefordshire whether you're on a wedding, fishing trip, walking holiday or just fancy a tranquil weekend chilling out in the countryside. Easy and direct access to the property along with a key safe allows you to get in any time day or night. The studio has a king size double bed and sofa bed. It can sleep up to 4 adults if sharing.
We enjoyed living in this studio for a few years while renovating our house and now would love to share it with you. It's totally separate from our house but we're a stone's throw away if you need us. We have river access via a canoe launch which is a short walk down the road (fine to carry canoes to/from) making this an ideal stop over for a weary paddler or someone looking to enjoy a little time on the river. There are great fishing spots locally available on a day ticket, we can send you details of where to book before you stay. The deck at the front of the studio is ideal for drying kit and prepping for the day ahead. For those who are looking for a longer stay, the studio features a fully functioning kitchen with fridge (with ice box), oven, induction hob, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine. We stock it with tea, coffee and biscuits ready for you. The entire studio is heated with underfloor heating and has lovely large windows which look out over the garden which you're welcome to use -kids love playing with the chickens.
Situated in a quiet hamlet of only a few houses right on the edge of the river Wye this is the perfect place to relax and unwind for a few days. Easy access to Ross-on-Wye (4 miles - 10 minutes), Hereford (12 miles - 20 minutes) and Monmouth (14 - 25 minutes) means shops are on your doorstep if you need them.

Ruardean is a typical Forest of Dean village with a interesting history including Horlicks of the famed malted drink. It has a post office incorporating a village store, garage, farm shop/cafe (200m). The village pub 'The Malt Shovel Inn' dates back many centuries and is old fashioned in approach and friendly. Other local pubs are The Forge Hammer which is also home to its own micro brewery and also a curry restaurant and take away and The Royal Spring. The Forest is easily accessible and Puzzle Wood (Star Wars, Merlin etc) is about 15 mins away by car (Coleford). The cottage is an ideal hub for the Forest but remember Gloucester, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Monmouth or Hereford are all well within a short car trip... should the peace or all of the Forest's outside activities prove too much to bear. Our international guests often go further afield to visit Warick Castle (12th century) and Shakespeare country; Stratford upon Avon.

  • Lovely big room in a lovingly restored and cosy warm victorian house. Quiet location within 10mins walk of great market town with nice restaurants to choose from. Simple breakfast nicely presented in a super dining room. Lyn and Ed are friendly and welcoming

  • Lovely old house with bags of character. Large room with a great little ensuite and a sofa. The house is a short walk into town with plenty of places to eat and drink. We ate at The Royal and had a good meal at a reasonable price. Unfortunately we did not have much time to explore Ross so its a good excuse to go back and have another stay!

  • This accommodation is beautiful and the hospitality superb and the amenities just right. It is just a few minutes walk from Ross town centre and some nice eating places. We were made to feel at home straight away and enjoyed some good conversation with our hosts. I would recommend the Victorian house.

  • Lovely, comfortable room in a very welcoming household. Lots of lovely touches in case you’ve forgotten anything and a real eye to detail. Just what I needed, on an all too short visit to Herefordshire. Thank you.

  • We've stayed here several times now, its our 'go to' in Ross on Wye. Great local tips, very comfortable room, excellent hosts, just need to fix the weather!

  • Sumptuous house in a great location that is easy walking distance of town centre. Lynn, Ed and the labs made us feel so welcome, and we look forward to staying again.

  • Lovely couple and a beautiful house. Lynn and Ed were attentive when we needed them, but gave us our privacy also. I would recommend them.

    Helen2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lynn and Ed's home is beautiful - and their welcome and attention to detail wonderful. (We also loved their two gorgeous labradors!) The situation is perfect - very easy to find and with secure parking. Our room had everything we needed, incuding mini fridge with fresh milk for drinks, and was spacious and comfortable; there was a settee and television (perfect, as we happened to be there the weekend of the rugby world cup semi finals). The pub across the road apparently does not serve food (we did not check this out) but the centre of Ross is very close and we found a lovely Italian restaurant for dinner on Saturday evening. NB some other restaurants were fully booked, so it might be worth reserving a table in advance if you plan to visit at the weekend. (Although, it would also have been possible to have take-away food in our room.) Sunday breakfast was good and we had chance to meet the other couple staying that weekend as well as talk with Lynn and Ed, who are delightful. We were able to stay and watch the rugby before leaving about 11am - there was no case of having to rush to check-out. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Lynn and Ed and will pass their Airbnb details on to friends/family.

We are doing what we can in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This means we are only taking bookings through the Air BnB COVID-19 scheme to offer accommodation to responders until the end of June. If you are a responder, our space will offer you a safe, peaceful bolt hole 12 miles from Gloucester Royal Hospital and 17 from Cheltenham. Plenty of outdoor garden space and many walks on the doorstep for daily exercise.
Wren Cottage could be for you if you are looking to find somewhere away from it all surrounded by nature and birdsong. It is very peaceful here. There is an outside seating area that we are making available to you, although this maybe shared by another responder and social distancing will therefore apply. There is a separate laundry area with washing machine, drier, iron and ironing board. We are making this area available by appointment only to enable us to keep people safe in shared areas. Wren Cottage is a stone forester’s cottage with cosy lounge, wood burner and a well equipped kitchen on the ground floor. A winding staircase leads to a bedroom with a comfy double bed and an ensuite shower room. There is limited storage. Plenty of hangars, and some open shelving. Luggage can also be stored under the metal framed bed. I could provide storage boxes for you. We are currently able to provide loo rolls and plenty of antibacterial soap, but like many, we cannot get hold of any hand sanitiser Notes: Access via a single track unmade road with some potholes Parking is 30 metres UPHILL from the cottage
We have a guest feedback form and one of the questions we ask is "What did you like most about your stay?" The answer is almost always the beautiful location and the peace and quiet. There are many footpaths all over the Forest of Dean and you can access this network from the cottage door. There is woodland within a short distance, and there are lots of small streams and brooks, so the sound of water is often what you will hear on a walk; that and the birdsong. We are on the sunny side of the valley and almost at the top of the hill so you can sit in the sun in the evening with a glass of wine, and admire the views. The penalty for this however is that most walks from the cottage end with a 10 minute uphill walk. We have few neighbours and there are more animals here than people - 2 pigs, one donkey, sheep, hens, and lots of stunning horses. (These our our neighbours' animals not ours). he Forest of Dean is an extensive area of ancient woodland stretching from Mitcheldean in the East as far west as the River Wye and south to the banks of the Severn. The region is rich in flora and fauna, and is beautiful in springtime when the woods are adorned with successive carpets of wild daffodils (Newent), bluebells and wood anenomes. Early morning or dusk are the best times of day to spot some of the wildlife including fallow deer and wild boar. For avid bird lovers the Forest of Dean is a joy, with the possibility of spotting the goshawks at New Fancy View, the peregrine falcons at Symmonds Yat Rock, dippers nesting in the banks of a stream or the pied flycatchers which make their nests in the hollowed out trunk of an oak tree. In summer be sure to look out for the many and varied butterflies which reside in the Forest including the white admiral, purple hairstreak and sliver washed fritillary. The Forest is an undulating landscape and your walks may well be accompanied by the sound of a stream babbling along a valley bottom as well as strident birdsong. There are many views to be admired from the hill tops across Forest and rivers, towards the Malvern Hills or to the Welsh Mountains across the border. Try May Hill for the best vantage point over the Forest!
  • A beautiful cottage in an amazing location. With some amazing walks straight from the front door. House has everything you need for an amazing break.

  • Despite the best efforts of Storm Dennis and the flooding that ensued we have had a great time at Wren Cottage. Wonderful walks from the door straight into the woods as well as plenty of areas to explore futher afield. Karen was a great host, very welcoming with great communication. The cottage had everything needed for a comfortable stay with the log burner providing an extremely cosy atmosphere at the end of a days walking for us and especially our two dogs! Thank you again Karen.

    Harriet2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a delight and perfect for an individual traveller like I was, or a couple. It was cosy and the fireplace a good way to keep the place warm in winter (although there is also heating too). It was spotlessly clean and with good amenities. It was extremely quiet with a lovely aspect so if you’re looking for a getaway from the city life, this is a good place to get it. Not too far from the local villages and the walks in the forest were delightful. All round, a really nice stay!

  • This cottage is a real gem. Set off the beaten track with stunning scenery as far as the eye can see, this was the perfect place for a relaxing break. Karen offered the warmest of welcomes, and the little touches including biscuits, juice and fresh flowers were very much appreciated. The wood burning stove was made up ready to use, with plenty of wood for the weekend which we made good use of! Definitely worth a visit.

  • This cottage is fantastic - 10 mins drive from Symonds Yat East and Rock where you can do lovely walking cycling trails. Probably 10 mins drive to Ross and maybe 20 to Monmouth, both of which have plenty to see, do, eat and drink. We came in February so were very thankful to have the fire to keep us warm when we got in for the day. The cottage has everything you need, and it’s so cosy! The hosts are also very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place hands down, and we’ll definitely go back.

The accommodation is spacious, clean and warm, with everything you need. We felt well looked after. Jane also recommended a good restaurant & offered to phone & book us a table. We went on the off chance and got a cancellation, and had a fabulous meal. Number 3 is the name of it. We highly recommend Jane's place for anyone.

  • This room in Jane & Tony's beautiful home offers outstanding value for money. The location is fantastic, you can see the river from the window and it's only a few minutes walk into the Town Centre. It's warm and welcoming and you feel right at home, a bit too much in our case - we didn't want to leave! The breakfast in the morning was a lovely extra touch and just added to the wonderful experience. There are some great restaurants nearby, we had a lovely Italian meal at Jane's recommendation but there are lots of options. We would absolutely recommend this amazing place for anyone looking to stay in Ross-on-Wye.

  • Jane’s place is stylish and comfortable. We were upgraded to the flat across the road and The views from their were amazing. There was milk and fruit in the fridge and it was sparkling clean. We felt at home and comfortable. We would stay here again in a heart beat. Thanks again Jane!

  • Jane's house was lovely, spotlessly clean and a minutes walk to the town centre and river walks. A lovely room with beautiful views and a comfy bed! Great to have tea and coffee making facilities as well as a fridge. I have booked to return again and looking forward to it!

    Coral2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location, river in front and small town behind all within a minutes walking. Jane really is a superhost, offered a parking permit, provided a delicious breakfast and great conversation. The room I stayed in was at the very top of the townhouse, 2 flights of stairs via the living room but all very manageable. The house is spotless and a very comfy bed. Would definitely stay here again.

  • We had a very enjoyable and relaxing short break. The Game Larders was very comfortable and cosy, and is set in a beautiful location. There are walks from the door and also interesting places to visit further afield. We hope to visit again one day. Jamie was a great host and we had everything we needed including a bottle of wine from the vineyard.

  • Couldn't have asked for a better place to spend the New Year! Jamie was a great host and his place was clean, spacious and has bags of character. The whole area was beautiful and was perfect for dog walks. I only wish we'd stayed there longer!

    Mike2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place in beautiful grounds. The bed was very comfortable and the place was clean and very cosy. A really nice place to stay in a quiet and secluded spot.

    Sabeena2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful and romantic property surrounded by gorgeous countryside. We had a lovely time enjoy the peaceful grounds and wider area. The house had everything we needed including a bottle of of the estate wine! Bear in mind this is an older property which can get cold in winter so bring appropriate clothes.

    Ed2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jamie was wonderfully accommodating with quick responses and flexibility from the start, and made us feel very much at home. At late notice he found us a space on his wine tour (which was fantastic) and allowed us to check out late. Please do try the wine from their vineyards - it's deserving of the award-winning status. The location is stunning and a short drive to the Forest of Dean where we went on long walks. The accommodation is set in wonderful grounds with a lake and large tudor house. Definitely a great experience I'd recommend to anyone. Thanks Jamie!!!

    Nick2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • After such a warm welcome from Jamie we had an amazing couple of days stay. The accommodation is packed with historic charm and the surroundings are beautiful! Plenty of picturesque walks to keep to dog entertained.

    Matthew2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tranquil - historic surrounds in a great location. A real olde-world feel. The bottle of wine grown by Jamie in the vineyard was a lovely welcome gift.

    Neil2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning house and the location is beautiful. If we’d have planned better we would have gone exploring. Jamie couldn’t have been more helpful and is a fantastic host. The cottage we stayed in was lovely, lots of character and spotlessly clean. Bear in mind this is an extremely old property so there are some creaky floorboards, but for us it just added to the stay. If you can, organise a wine tour at the property with Jamie; the wines are truly delicious!!!

  • Our stay at Gail’s was excellent! The space felt very homely and made for a wonderful base to explore Gloucester and the Cotswolds from. The dogs were wonderful and the hot tub was exactly what we needed after a long drive from London. We took a rental car that was a little bigger than we expected and this was a bit tricky on the driveway. We managed fine but if you are not a confident driver this might trip you up. Other than that, all you need to know is that you will love your stay here! Book now :)

  • What a view! This is an away-from-it-all space that you can't fail to relax in. The hot tub is a bonus, and the place is a charmingly compact space for two.

  • Really recommend this lovely little cottage! We went on a long walk locally - the forest really is on your doorstep. We self catered the whole weekend and the kitchen was very well equipped. Had no issues with the WiFi. Slept very well in the huge bed.

  • If you need to get away and have a quiet couple of days to yourself then this is the place for you. When we walked in you were treated with a lovely welcoming package and a card. The place was warm, inviting, clean and there were plenty of things to do from board games, cards, reading and just going out n bout in the great Forest of Dean. Would definitely use again. Thank you Emma.

    Elaine2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Emma and David's cottage for 8 nights and it was absolutely brilliant. Fully equipped kitchen, large comfy bedroom, and a super cosy lounge with incredible views of the hills out the back door. So many thoughtful touches throughout the space including books and games, extra blankets, and even a welcome gift basket and fresh eggs - yumm! The location is close to many many walking trails, pubs, and shops in nearby towns and the cottage itself is off the main street, so expect really quiet nights. We HIGHLY recommend staying at Emma and David's cottage and wish we could have stayed longer!

    Ornella2020-01-06T00:00:00Z

  • Booked for a 40th birthday treat weekend and had a fantastic time! Superb hospitality from our hosts with great tips for eating out (The Loughpool Inn in Sellack and Number 3 in Ross on Wye were great but do need booking well in advance), as well as amazing home cooked breakfasts (choose from a large and varied menu with the choice of having it delivered to your accommodation to be enjoyed in bed or the option of eating in the conservatory dining room) with fresh duck eggs daily from the resident ducks along with locally sourced bacon/sausage etc. The accommodation was spotless and had all the facilities you would expect (WiFi, Hairdryer, Towels etc) along with some added extras (a large selection of DVD's, books, local guides and leaflets, directory of Taxi numbers and a selection of board games). Couldnt have asked for more The location is also great for exploring the local area and is only a £6.00 taxi ride to Ross if you fancy a night out too. A great base from which to enjoy the beautiful Wye Valley.

We’ve had a wonderful weekend. The cottage is even more lovely in real life and the location absolutely perfect for walking the Wye Valley and the Forest. Without doubt our all time favorite Airbnb find.

  • This is a place not to be missed, we stayed during a few cold February days and enjoyed the cosiness not just of the logburner but the whole place. Really clean lovely shower room, comfy bed, fully equipped kitchen and cosy lounge area, with great views from every window. We want to return in summer to take advantage of that tempting bench which it was just too cold to sit out on when we got back from a day out, even with the blankets provided! Lucy was helpful with everything, and a great host.

    Wendy2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect place to relax. We loved everything about Perry Pear Cottage; especially the Alpacas and Flapjacks!! Lucy and Mark are wonderful hosts. The best place we have stayed. We will certainly be back again soon! :-)

  • The pictures here don’t do Perry Pear Cottage justice; it is a beautiful open plan space, with incredible views from each window you look from. It couldn’t be more private, calming and comfortable if you tried. Five big golden stars!

The Old Hall is unique and full of charm with an equally characterful history. Dating back to the 1830s, it was originally a Victorian schoolroom for the children of the estate workers at nearby Hill Court Manor. Fully renovated in 2018/19 to an exceptional standard, it is now a spacious but cosy two bedroom hideaway, and sits along a quiet country lane in a small hamlet in the beautiful Wye Valley, an AONB surrounded by orchards and fields, with views towards Coppett Hill from the front.
The Old Hall has numerous touches to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and features a large log burner and underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, so is a fantastic escape to the country in both the summer and winter months. The spacious open plan kitchen is modern and fully equipped and has a breakfast bar overlooking the lounge making it a wonderfully sociable space, and the bathroom, located on the ground floor, is fitted with a powerful rain head shower. To the front of the cottage is a dining / games area with a wide spiral stair case leading up to the two bedrooms, one double, one twin. The main doors of the dining room open out onto a fully enclosed south facing terrace, with table and chairs to enjoy this relaxing sun trap in the summer months.
Whilst The Old Hall makes the perfect country getaway with fabulous walks literally from the doorstep, it's ideally situated for the best of both worlds, and the bustling market town of Ross on Wye is approximately 1.5 miles away, where you will find an excellent range of shops, restaurants and pubs. Sitting on the cusp of the three counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire with the Welsh borders and the Malvern Hills close by, the holiday property makes the perfect base for exploring, walking and cycling. It is also within easy reach of the magical Forest of Dean, rich in wildlife, with many lakes and picnic sites, and Symonds Yat and the Cathedral cities of Hereford and Gloucester are just a short drive away.
  • The Old Hall was the perfect place to spend a weekend in the gorgeous Wye Valley. Haddy and Adam's cottage is so beautifully presented and it was sparkling clean. It had everything you could possible want and the personal touches were lovely. The fireplace in particular was very welcome during a chilly weekend. We could not recommend this cottage enough, it was a wonderful rural retreat. We hope to be back!

  • Haddy and Adam's cottage is fantastic. It's beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The wood burner in the living room is great and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. Haddy was very welcoming and even left us some tastey treats like some home made granola. We would definitely come back!

    Paul2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Haddy and Adam are super courteous hosts. Their space was sparkling clean and had some really nice personal touches like homemade granola and locally roasted coffee. Lots of advice on where to explore locally too! If we ever come the the Wye Valley area in the future we'd definitely stay here again!

  • Comfortable, welcoming, imaginative and exceptionally well equipped, The Old Hall is ideally situated in a peaceful hamlet, yet conveniently close to Ross on Wye. It made the perfect base for exploring the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Haddy and Adam have got the important things right. They also excel at the thoughtful details that make all the difference - a comprehensive welcome pack, clear instructions for equipment, and excellent suggestions and recommendations. A real find - stylish, practical and highly recommended!

Katie was really helpful and responded quickly to any questions that we had. The extra touches such as bread and milk were also greatly appreciated. Would highly recommend

  • My boyfriend and I love walking in the Forest of Dean, Katie’s place provided a good base for this with most of our walks within a 20 minute drive. The space was very modern and clean and had all the kitchen appliances you would expect to need. Lots of thoughtful touches left which was really nice to arrive to. Great place for a weekend stay!

  • I planned a weekend away for my girlfriend's birthday and Katie's lovely place exceed all expectations and made it the best birthday she's ever had! On arrival Katie greeted us and showed around. It's a lovely, cosy little place perfect for a weekend trip. Katie left some very thoughtful little touches about which really took it to the next level. Cannot compliment Katie enough on this property, a wonderful place to stay and we will definitely be back.

A quaint 2 bedroom stone cottage located south of Ross on Wye towards the Welsh border. This well appointed cottage has everything you'll need for a great holiday. Ideally located in an AONB and the birthplace of British tourism, The Wye Valley. A short distance from many attractions such as Goodrich Castle and The Forest of Dean as well as the historic towns of Ross on Wye and Monmouth. If your looking for a short break or a week or so away The Smithy will prove a relaxing treat.
The Smithy is a two bedroomed cottage set out on two floors that is ideal for a variety of guests. It is equally suitable for a couple, friends or a family as the sleeping arrangements can be set up as a super king and twin beds or a super king and a double bed depending on your personal requirements. There is a large sitting room come dining room with a comfy corner sofa with a large smart 4K TV. There is a large walk in shower and a well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. Airbnb guests are welcome in the garden and on the back lawn there is a picnic bench, garden seats for relaxing in and BBQ area to enjoy for their sole use.
Located in a small hamlet, we have a commanding view over the valley and onto Coppet Hill. There are a multitude of things to find and do. Alternate travel to Abergavenny and enjoy the delights of the food festival, or Hay on Wye for the book festival. Go out in the evening and enjoy excellent food cooked with locally sourced produce in one of the local pubs or restaurants or stay in a cook for yourself while relaxing and watching a Netflix film on the 40" 4K tv.
  • Great little cottage with lovely garden available - lots of local information available to take advantage of the amazing countryside around. We enjoyed it and the dog thought it was great!

  • We have just spent 2 days at The Smithy Cottage which is set in a lovely, peaceful location about 15 minutes from Ross on Wye and Monmouth. The space is ideal for 2-4 people with good sized bedrooms and living/dining area. The cottage is cosy and very well presented with all the amenities you need. Sarah is a great host and was available to answer any questions we had. This was our second visit to the area and would be our first choice of accommodation for any future stays. A little gem! Decorated to a high standard. We would highly recommend.

    Joanne2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Will stay again

    Emma2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The Smithy was very comfortable, so clean and in a beautiful location. We felt very at home for the weekend. The kids and dog loved the garden and there was plenty to do within easy reach. Sarah made us very welcome with treats for both humans and the dog. We can’t wait to come back for another visit.

    Hannah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Smithy is a great cottage for exploring the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat. The cottage is sparkly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Maps and guidebooks were available which was helpful. Thanks Sarah.

Our place is close to countryside. The Wye Valley is a AONB where you can walk, cycle, canoe and explore the many tracks through woodland and farmland. You’ll love it because of the peace and tranquility. A private romantic hideaway where you can cuddle up in front of a roaring woodburning stove to keep away the winter blues. We are within easy reach of Monmouth with it's bijou quirky shops and eateries. The nearest pub is the Mill Race a 40minute walk but not in the dark. Takeaways deliver.
Pat and Richard would like to welcome you to their newly refurbished cider barn. It has one double bed, kitchenette, wet room and lounge with TV. Also we have a woodburning stove as well as radiators. There is a small patio and access to part of the garden. There is ample off road parking, secure bicycle storage. Eggs available from our own hens. Although we own a pet ourselves we have decided not to accept pets as guests. No smoking please. Three nights minimum stay. We are within two miles of Ross-on-Wye. There is fine dining and several pubs within easy reach. There are opportunities for walking, fishing and canoeing in this Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We look forward to meeting you. We own and drive a 1939 MG and would particularly welcome MG drivers and will offer them cash back if they arrive in an MG. In fact being old car people we especially welcome anyone in an old car. Although the wireless WiFi is adequate for email, internet surfing and shopping etc it is not strong enough to stream films. The television does incorporate a DVD player and there is a small selection of DVDs in the Barn. There is also a number of popular boxed games, Scrabble etc.
Wenslow Barn is located in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • A fabulous Airbnb- clean, welcoming, and well kitted out with lovely touches. We particularly enjoyed the log burner! The barn is well located for enjoying the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. Richard and Pat were welcoming guests, and I’ recommend anyone to go and check out this stay.

    Lucy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to escape from busy city life. Cosy, clean, quiet and relaxing. We were greeted warmly by Richard and were welcomed with a few treats, which were much appreciated. We couldn’t fault this place and have never slept so well!

    Ellie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is a lovely place to stay. Pat and Richard were brilliant hosts. Would definitely recommend it.

    Stuart2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a great, cosy stay in a wonderful location. The log burner was perfect and the gifts on arrival were very welcome! Thank you Pat & Richard for being such wonderful hosts!

    Oliver2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Our second visit to the barn was just as amazing as last year. Very clean place with all the amenities you need. The log burner is our favourite, so cosy on a cold winters night, with a log store where you can grab some more logs. There are many walking books in the barn, so we read through these and found a few delightful walks that were fabulous. Spending New Years here for the second time was lovely. This year we stayed in and cooked a meal and we had everything we needed to do so. I would recommend Wenslow Barn and Pat and Richard as hosts to anyone. Will be back again!

    Elizabeth2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely barn, great log burner, perfect relaxing place!

    Julie2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A real rarity of a superbly set out and designed self-contained separated space and Pat & Richard have the balance just right as attentive hosts. Great extra touches (find out for yourselves!). Great spot for a 'digital detox' too! Lovely variety of country walks from the door. Recommend Monmouth for a visit. Or just stop in the barn and read something.

    Ian2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • The barn is very clean and cosy, the log burner is great in those cold evenings and we loved the mezzanine bedroom above. Pat and Richard were very helpful and we would thoroughly recommend staying in Wenslow Barn.

This converted porta cabin is situated on an ex-Forest Nursery yard set within 10 acres, now laid down to grass from the previous 50 years of tree growing. A minutes walk from the yard reveals beautiful views across the landscape and as far as the Skirrid, Abergavenny's Sacred hill. A view worth drawing/painting/photographing as varied weather and light alter the scenery. There is a lovely walk down to twin lakes, used for fishing and leisure walking approximately 10-15 minutes stroll away. The local pub is also within walking distance, where good simple food, real ales/Herefordshire cider and a friendly welcome is to be found. An annual 'Blues' festival which benefits lots of charities is held here at the Alma Inn. The cabin is newly refurbished, carpeted throughout, clean and bright with off road parking and a patio area for relaxing with a glass of wine. There is a 'no smoking' policy within the cabin, but quite acceptable outdoors with ashtray provided. A 'Welcome Basket' of tea, coffee, milk, bread, eggs (fresh from my chickens) will be provided for your arrival. The historic towns of Hereford, Monmouth, Ledbury, Malvern, Hay on Wye are all within 20 - 60 minutes drive. Day hire kayaking and canoeing within 20 minutes drive to spend a great day enjoying the River Wye and experiencing the spectacular Wye valley from different prospective. Just paddling down the river and stopping off for a pub lunch or a swim on the way. The wonderful Forest of Dean is also on the doorstep with lots of activities such as cycle hire, horse riding, sculpture trail walks to fill your days. Lots of 'to do' brochures in the cabin for inspiration. There is also room for well behaved dogs - as sheep, dog and cats live on the property!
Rustic rural location, enjoyable local walks, dog friendly!
Local fishing lakes, turn up and pay for the day! A good local pub (The Alma) serving very reasonable priced food!! Also host a Charity Blues Festival annually! Very dog friendly!! Good walks and great views!!
  • Great little place within easy reach of M50 but with a nice rural feel. Pretty views from the cabin and birds all around including red kite. Comfortable , warm, very well equipped . We liked the retro feel of the decor. Excellent unobtrusive hosting was much appreciated, including the kindly touch of making sure a landline connection was available in case of emergency ( we had a relative in hospital). Handy for all sorts of beautiful countryside and market towns. Highly recommend a visit to the Internstional Birds of Prey centre at Newent and food at the Newent Tandoori was fab.

    Bridget2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely host with an ideal little cabin. Smart tv and Alexa made the rainy weekend not matter. Had a great cosy weekend in front of the fire. Comfy bed with heated blanket and a great sized kitchen and living room. Absolute bargain. Local curry house is exceptional and a must try.

    Tasha2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful little cabin, in a great location with an amazing countryside view a couple of steps outside the front door. It may look small, but there's plenty of space inside, and a great little deck outside for when the sun is shining. Lesley, the host, was very friendly and pointed out some great places to eat. We had an amazing time and absolutely recommend this place to anybody staying near by.

    Michael2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Terrific little place in a gorgeous setting with lovely walks right out the front door. We spent a week here walking about 20 to 25km every day and didn't drive more than 30 minutes away. Clean and comfortable accommodation and a wonderful host - friendly, thoughtful, easy to contact but still gives you your space. The extensive provisions we were provided with were above and beyond a host's duty; we were very grateful for these kind extra touches. If you're a couple with or without a dog looking for a place in this area, I can't imagine what more you'd want than this. Thank you Lesley!

    Chris2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed for couple of nights at Acorn Cabin with our two small dogs but loved every minute. It was spotlessly clean and there was fresh Soda bread, fresh eggs, milk, butter and jam waiting for us. The surrounding countryside and the view from the kitchen window is stunning. We knew Lesley was on site should we need anything although the cabin was so well equipped, we had everything we could possibly need while we were there. I loved the the fresh eggs so much that, after asking Lesley's advice about keeping hens, just two days after we've arrived home, we now have a chicken coop and two resident hens!! We would have loved to have stayed a little longer and would highly recommend Acorn Cabin as somewhere really relaxing to stay.

    Yvonne2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lesley lives up to the expectations of a super host! We loved all of the little touches, like giving us fresh eggs and bread, you can tell a lot of thought for her guests go into every detail. The farm is picturesque and just what we needed for a weekend getaway - couldn’t recommend it enough.

    Georgia2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Lesley gave us a warm and friendly welcome. Her accommodation was delightful. It was very clean and tidy. There was plenty of parking and lots of extras in the cabin. Lesley provided us with some delicious ingredients for breakfast. We felt spoilt. Thank you very much Lesley!

    Penny2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin. We stay in a lot of air BnBs and this really did have everything we needed. Lots of easy parking right outside...comfy bed...cosy living room. The kitchen was lovely (Lesley had kindly left eggs, milk, butter and delicious fresh bread) and the shower was very good with plenty of hot water (with added bonus of lots of towels!) . A great place to have our dog with us...who had a lovely time! Check-in and checkout were easy, with Lesley being a very welcoming and helpful host. Would definitely stay here again!

Granton Coach House in Goodrich is in the grounds of our house in a quiet part of the village. Accommodation for 2 people is on the first floor of the building. Many original features have been retained and it's very well equipped to make your stay comfortable. A home from home! We like to welcome guests personally so can offer advice on places to visit, places to dine. There's a wealth of info/leaflets on local walks, cycle and canoe hire etc. The Wye Valley is beautiful at all times of year.
We renovated the coach house with an aim to transform it into an attractive living space for our guests to relax in and enjoy. Several original features still are evident such as the floor and the beams. At one time the coach house had been used by a governess to a young girl living in the main house. We are lucky enough to know a lot of history of the property and have photos depicting that time and these are displayed by the dining area. There is an open plan well equipped kitchen, living, dining space and a bedroom with a super-king bed, wardrobe with hanging and shelf space. A hairdryer and a fan are also provided. The ensuite shower/WC is roomy and the vanity unit has cupboard space. There is a cosy wood-burner in the lounge and central heating throughout. The washing machine and iron and ironing board is in the utility room just off the veranda. The veranda is a perfect place to sit and listen to birdsong. Apart from the TV with Freeview, there are a few board and card games. WIFI is available for our guests to use in the property. All bed linen is fine Egyptian cotton and is provided as well as hand and bath white fluffy towels.Tea towels, dish cloths, paper towels etc are also in the kitchen.
The Wye Valley is set within an area of outstanding natural beauty. Goodrich is a lovely village conveniently situated between Ross on Wye (just off the M50) and Monmouth just off the A40 and so is ideally placed for visiting the The Forest of Dean, The Brecon Beacons, including Hay on Wye (famous for its literary festival), Abergaenny (famous for its food festival) ,The Malvern Hills (famous for RHS Flower Shows), Hereford, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Cardiff and Bristol etc.
  • A lovely, well appointed place for 2 people, with en suite bath room , with large comfortable living room / kitchen area which provided ample cooking equipment and space. A small patio with BBQ is also available for when the weather is more appropriate than we had. Although Liz was away during our stay, she made sure someone was available to provide anything we needed. Ruth and I would highly recommend The Coach House, and will be looking to return in the future

  • Liz is a fantastic host and the couch house is so beautiful! We loved it so much we opted to stay indoors by the fire rather than go out most days. Defo worth a visit x

  • Cosy, well equipped cottage in a perfect location for exploring the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Lots of local information and even fresh eggs and apples!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this delightful, lovingly restored coach house. It is spotlessly clean, well equipped, warm and cosy. Our hosts kindly left some delicious fresh eggs and fruit and they provide much interesting and useful local information. It is a quiet location but with easy access to the lovely Wye Valley. The food at the local pub, The Hostelrie, was excellent. So much to enjoy on your doorstep

    Ros2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach house is a real home from home. It’s clean, pretty and everything has been thought of. You’ll want for nothing. There’s parking right outside, access on arrival was easy, the bed was huge and super comfortable, nice shower and plenty of hot water. We were given some eggs and fresh fruit too which was lovely. Goodrich itself is very well situated for exploring the Wye Valley. Would highly recommend the Coach House.

Converted coachhouse with ancient cruck beams and a cosy woodburner. In a country village near Ross on Wye. Very restful, ideal for a couple. Open plan with mezzanine bedroom and shower room, and an extra loo downstairs. Good views. Great pub nearby. Located up May Hill where there are extensive walking opportunities - seven counties visible from the top. On edge of Forest of Dean with excellent walking/cycling routes, and canoeing on the River Wye just 20 mins away. Cheltenham races 40 mins.
Coachhouse, with woodburner (logs included), is situated in old orchard with its own private terrace.
Cliffords Mesne is the home of the International Birds of Prey centre which has daily shows in the summer months and well worth a visit. It is pretty quiet round here and only 12 minutes drive to Ross on Wye and the River Wye where you can canoe in the summer months. We are located about half way up May Hill which has great walks through woodland and extensive views from the top. Also great views of the Welsh hills from the garden.
  • Beautiful place! The hosts are very welcoming, friendly and informative. They were very thoughtful leaving milk, tea, coffee and bread for us on arrival which was much appreciated after a long drive. The cottage its self is in the hosts beautiful garden, for which I was a bit apprehensive that we would be over looked or monitored but I did not need to worry. The cottage felt cosy and isolate, just what's needed for a much needed break for me and my partner. The cottage has a lovely wood burner and enough logs to last the long weekend with more on request. It has a small selfstanding microwave/oven/grill and 2 hob rings but we still managed to cook a large chicken and roast with it. The bed was comfortable and shower was powerful. There were more blankets and towels in the wardrobe which was a bonus for someone with long hair! Over all we cannot fault this place. Lovely warm and cosy cottage over looking lovely countryside with brilliant hosts. Thank you so very much. Sam and Dave

  • We would highly recommend this lovely place. We had a wonderful time in the peaceful country side that surrounds the cottage, exploring the Malvern Hills, Cheltenham and the local pubs! The cottage is lovely, warm and cosy with the wood burner and central heating and a lovely big bed. We had the best weekend.

  • This is a great place to chill out for a few days and recharge your batteries. Lovely cottage feel with a modern twist. Friendly hosts and beautiful country surroundings. I highly recommend this place.

  • Perfect base for exploring the local scenic areas. The cottage itself was great, everything you could need, and it was actually lovely not to have WiFi. Everything was spotlessly clean, and very well appointed, and the bed was so comfortable, I didn’t want to get out of it! Which was just as well, as we had some very heavy rain for the first few days, so we got the log burner going, and spent a lovely couple of days relaxing and reading. John and Marjanne were lovely hosts, and I would recommend the cottage as a lovely place to spend a few days.

    Roger2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • I must say that this place was much bigger than we expected. It has fantastic views, was clean inside and out. As well as it be central to what we needed we were given plenty of local knowledge to help us along. I would highly recommend it and this will be my first option if I find myself back this way. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. Thank you both for a fantastic stay and we hope to visit again soon.

    Blane2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely hosts who give you helpful tips about the area and also give you your privacy. Very pretty and clean cottage with all mod cons and traditional fire which is so romantic. Incredibly beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Particularly appealing for people who will appreciate the friendly dogs!

    Claire2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Seeing the pictures we had great expectations about the place, but it exceeded them all. It's an idyllic little house in the countryside, just perfect in every way. If you are seeking for peace and beauty don't miss it. Thank you Marjanne and John, you are the best hosts.

Really dog friendly - Nicky let us bring our two little dogs who both loved the environment, especially the vast grounds. Spacious living areas - we were two couples plus the dogs and we never felt in the way of each other. Highly recommended.

  • Just arrived back from a wonderful stay at Wharton Lodge. The cottage we stayed in was spotlessly clean and modern, yet still maintained its lovely old cottage charm. Situated in a beautiful area, we found that everywhere we wanted to visit was a comfortable distance away. The beds were very comfortable and we slept like logs. Nicky was a wonderful host and extremely dog friendly which we were grateful for. She provided us with tips on local walks and restaurants, which really enhanced our stay. Overall we had a lovely break and would definitely return in the future.

  • Everything about our stay was first class. Our cottage was a delight - exceptionally clean, comfortable and furnished to a very high standard. The walled gardens and summerhouse are beautiful - an added bonus which we made full use of. The setting couldn't be bettered with delightful countryside views, yet Ross with all its facilities just 4 miles away. Our hosts Nicky and George were exceptionally warm and welcoming and were generous with their time and help; nothing was too much trouble for them. All in all a perfect few days away - we shall return!

  • A wonderful location, super hosts which I really can't praise enough. This is a real gem of a place where you can relax in a beautiful setting and is the best dog friendly place I have ever stayed. Thank you Nicky and George we will be back!

Our gorgeous converted barn, with all mod cons, is on the very edge of the Forest of Dean (theres a boundry marker by the front door), 4 miles out of Ross On Wye. A peaceful location in easy reach of the beautiful Wye valley and various other attractions. NB* - Strictly NON-SMOKING (Non Smokers only please) No children or babies. No Dogs.
Its a recently converted barn ( completed Oct 2013), and is therefore in great condition. The original barn is 200 years old. Theres a comfy seating area and well equipped kitchen downstairs, and a cute double bedroom and shower room upstairs. Fresh bed linen and towels are provided weekly at no extra cost. Central heating / hot water included. Free WiFi is included Freeview TV and DVD player provided. Well equipped kitchen provided. New power shower. There is a patio/BBQ area just outside the Barn. You also have exclusive use of a private area within our garden, with great views of the surrounding countryside. There is also a covered outdoor space.
Its a peaceful country area, close to the Wye Valley, which is an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. But there are plenty of places to visit and things to do. We are on the very edge of the Royal Forest of Dean ( theres a boundary marker right outside the front door).
  • Excellent little cosy barn. Better than the pictures show. It was really peaceful and remote which is just what we wanted. Kitchen was well equipped, bed was comfy, lovely shower. You can access the forest of Dean so easily and Ross on Wye is a ten minute drive if you want a big shop or meal out. Will probably return in the summer!

  • We had a wonderful stay in Hooks Barn despite terrible weather! The cottage is very warm and cosy and even nicer than the photographs. It's in a beautiful location with lots of great places to explore nearby, and we really appreciated the information provided by Joan and William of local walks and places to visit. Would highly recommend for a quiet trip away.

  • This is a lovely secluded barn conversion, perfect for a couple wanting to escape for a short break. Bed is comfortable, kitchen well equipped, and it’s so quiet and dark at night for seeing the stars.

  • Joan and William's place is a lovely little hide away for 2. It's a comfortable barn conversion with gorgeous views. And we loved the flap jacks and cider that were left as a gift. Thanks again Joan and William!

  • Beautiful, very clean cottage with lovely views and very accessible for the forest area. Photos do not do it justice.

  • This little cottage is perfect for one or two people looking to spend time exploring the wonderful area. I spent the week learning how to throw pots at a local pottery and this place was just right for me on my own. The kitchen was equipped well with all I need to cook my evening meals and the views were magnificent. I would definitely return.
