Places to stay in Vassalboro
This rustic cabin has been in my family for 3 generations. It's well loved, a little quirky and perfect for a family get away. We welcome well trained dogs, and have high expectations that you will respect the place and clean up at check out (see the "space" section) We don't have a cleaning staff. We ask that you leave it better than you found it, with no sign you were there. We welcome families, but after bad experiences, we are not available for your reunion or bachelor/(ette) party.
Located about half a mile down a country road, this cabin has been in my family for 4 generations and is well loved. It's only open for 3 seasons, and is set up for family fun. All the beds are single, save one full sized bed in the back bedroom, and one queen sized bed in the bunk house. There is a well equipped kitchen which is stocked with staples like olive oil, napkins, basic spices, cleaning supplies, etc., 1.5 bath rooms with a tub and a shower, a good supply of games, lots of outdoor picnic table options, a dock for swimming, large raft for floating, a sand box and a toy kitchen for young kids. There are a variety of canoes and kayaks available. Camp, as we call the cabin, is set up to spend time on the water and with the ones you came with so there is no TV, no Cable, no internet, and no phone, though verizon and sprint users have good service. AT&T has good reception but only 2G, so no data. I can't confirm other providers. Instead we offer the sound of loon calls on the lake, a picture window view of the lake from the living room, a fire place, a deck and benches and deck chairs for enjoying the water and the view, and games galore to keep you entertained. There is a radio which has CD and tape capacity if you still own such antiques. No one lives here full time so we have a "leave it as you found it policy". We ask that people do their own laundry, clean up the camp and re-fill the water jug before you leave. There are no laundry facilities on site but there is a laundromat about 3 miles away. All garbage must be driven to the dump or taken home with you. (Dump is closed Sunday and Monday.) There is a guide book available to let you know how things work and where to find the important stuff. The check out process takes approximately 3 hours, which can be a lot, especially for short stays. The running water to the camp comes from the lake and is not drinkable. There are a few public taps which can be used for free or you can buy water from the local Hannafords supermarket about a mile up the road. Myself, or members of my family are on call if there are any problems. There is a one week minimum for the months of July and August.
The cabin has the feel of being secluded because of the trees around the house, but there are neighbors close by on both sides. Most of the homes on camp road (Fire Rd 61) are full time, but the home to the left of ours is a week-end home and is often empty. The house to the right belongs to a lovely couple who have a wonderful extended family with young grandchildren who come for visits. The noise is happy playful noise and not in the least disruptive, but if you want seclusion, this may not be the place. There is a Hannaford a mile away so you can buy water and other things you need. There is a boat launch roughly the same distance. The Chinah Dinah offers a good meal just up the road. Bach's is an ice cream shop that is within walking distance. There is yoga and a farmer's market in Waterville or Augusta, both about 20 minutes drive. The Lake St George Brewery just openned up a short drive up Rte 3 and it's across the street from an ice cream shop, so there are treats for all ages.
  • Beautiful view. Fishing was great.

  • Andrea has great attention to detail and goes out of the way to make sure that you have everything you need. The amount of amenities provided coupled with the low cost create substantial value. I will go out of my way to stay here again if available in the future.

  • Room E is cozy, but has everything you need for an easy overnight. TV, Desk, Comfortable armchair and bed, you feel like you're getting a lot out of this private space than just a bed. Also, Andrea left thoughtful touches like a chocolate by the bed and a glass of wine for me.

  • Wonderful place

  • I’m not sure words do justice to how nice this location is. I selected it due to its perfect location (the perfect spot for the night before Acadia), and its amazing price. When arriving, I was relieved at the ease of check in and condition of the house, absolutely immaculate. The room had every single thing we needed and more, including bathrobes! The bed was comfortable and the view from the porch was incredible. We are already planning our way back north again, however plan on staying in Hallowell for the entire stay for we never even got to try out kayaking and bike riding in the area, or to explore all of the small shops that it has to offer! Thank you so much for everything, we will be back soon!

    Kevin2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Secure, cozy room in a tidy old house in a town I’ve never heard of. Sounded great and it was indeed great. Try it out

    Sampson2019-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • The room had anything you might imagine needing. Andrea was quick to respond to questions as well!

    Michael2019-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea's place is lovely! I stayed there as a quick layover on a trip en route to Canada, and it was just what I needed. I'd love to return in the future for a longer stay. Andrea's kindness and hospitality are noteworthy!

    Kerry2019-05-24T00:00:00Z
  • My bed was so comfortable! I arrived late and left early, so I didn’t actually get to meet Andrea. But I felt so welcomed by the extra touches that went above and beyond what I expected...the water filter, coffee, chocolate and so much more! Thanks again Andrea!

    Mary2019-05-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time, the accommodations were excellently maintained and made our trip perfect.

    Alexander2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea’s place is TOP NOTCH!! Beautiful home, great location, amazing amenities. Cleanliness is a big deal for me so I was a little worried but from the moment I walked through the door I had to take off my shoes (just like home!) my room was spotless and Andrea was cleaning the common areas ALL the time. She was super friendly, full of recommendations but also was very respectful of personal space and my need for alone time. I could write an entire page of how lovely this home and Andrea were, I definitely will be returning!!

Comfortable , quiet organic farm. Halfway to Acadia from Boston area. First floor has a triple and double with attached parlor that can also sleep 2. Private attached bath. Nice morning walks to China Lake. Very handy to Colby, Thomas College and Augusta. Produce available at our farmers market . Ride a toboggan, tap a maple tree, weed a garden or harvest veggies with us (in season of course). Please note we do have cats in home. Kitchen facilities available but no meals provided.
We are a small organic mixed vegetable, orchard and berry farm in Central Maine. We are walking distance to China Lake, Country Store/Restaurant, library, museum, grange and churches. The walks around the farm or to the old water power mill down back on the outlet stream is a bit of fun. The fishing, kayaking and bicycling in our area are well known. We have kayaks and bikes available as well. You would be welcome to help on the farm or enjoy healthy off the farm meals. Colby and Thomas College or town amenities for broader entertainment are 8 miles away. Outdoors folks can contact us for seasonal opportunities as well. There is also a camping island in our town you could kayak to for an interesting overnight. We have all the gear for rent at a reasonable price. You would have a choice of rooms at our farm. Easily accessible on the first floor: Your room might be a large double with available third child's crib or bed with attached bath. There is also a single bedroom with attached bath and trundle bed. With enough notice there are also two double bedrooms with bath on the second floor. Longer stays are also available. Thanks for considering our farm.
We are in a small rural town within walking distance of store, lake, library, church and grange hall.
  • A wonderful place to stay with down to earth hosts! A house with much charm and wonderfully unique decor. I would absolutely recommend staying here.

  • A warm, comfortable space in a warm, comfortable farm home! My 1-year-old and I felt right at home and enjoyed our stay very much, including a trip to the nearby (free!) Colby art museum as recommended by Bernie!

  • The warmest hospitality, kindness and generosity of Airbnb. Jody and Bernie are world travelers and educators as well as farmers, so I enjoyed my conversations with them. Their farm house was so cozy with the wood stove in the kitchen, the cup of mint tea from their garden they offered me before bed. They made me feel very much at home with their kindness and warmth. I enjoyed a cozy, heated room with books and a private bathroom. I hope to visit again!

  • Lovely couple. Rooms were clean. My kids loved the self playing piano!

    Amy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Bernie and Jody are incredibly hospitable and wonderful! Their house and farm is absolutely stunning, warm, and the definition of cozy. Bernie and Jody are wonderfully friendly, kind, and helpful. I was in Maine for a wedding and Bernie and Jody came to the rescue with an iron to iron dress clothes for the wedding and gave great advice for things to do in the area. This location was a great home base to explore central Maine.

    Dustin2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • The absolute perfect place for us to stay. Our 3 kids (14, 12, and 8) were entertained every minute on the farm. They picked tomatoes from the greenhouse, apples and pears in the little orchard, blueberries along the fence. They just loved having a big area to run around after traveling all day. The 3 story barn swing was a big hit and the cats were cuddly and friendly. The self playing piano was so neat. We just loved everything about the place!

    Sarah2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place to be. Jody and Bernie are wonderful hosts. First thing Bernie asked us by arrival was if we would like to go dancing in the evening (in German!!). Of course we wanted to. We had the time of our life doing Contra Dance, although we screwed up a lot. The accommodation is a lovely farm house in the countryside. Perfect for us, as we are not city people. The rooms are big and the style lovely. In retrospect we should have stayed much longer. But we are looking forward coming back. Very highly recommended.

My retired mother Anne and I share in the running of Anchor house. The space is ideal for couples, single person, a couple with young children. Relax in the livingroom with the flat screen TV and we have TV tray tables so our guests can enjoy their meals or work on their laptops.
Burleigh Street is a unique part of town in Waterville. Large old houses on a quiet street along the Messalonskee stream. Many of the houses date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Mr. Burleigh built our house in 1915. He and his family lived downstairs and his favorite aunt lived upstairs. Originally a two family house.
  • Really nice and private room(s) in a great convenient location. Beautiful out back on the stream.

Separate entrance and self check-in for social distancing. Funky waterfront retreat in the pine canopy with private full bath with hot shower, use of canoe, grounds, dock, decks, outdoor chairs, and hammock. Woodsy and a somewhat secluded location, yet convenient to Augusta off Route 17. Ideal location for a stop going to or from Acadia National Park or the Common Ground Fair. Enjoy a campfire in the evening. Host lives on site if you need anything.
The waterfront is Togus Pond, also known as Worromontogus Lake. Spacious queen suite in the pine canopy with gorgeous views of the water and use of canoe. Completely separate from the downstairs where the caretaker lives. The stairway to the upstairs is long at 16 steps. It is not for the faint of heart: not suitable for those who have trouble climbing stairs, are afraid of heights, or children. But the reward is being in the tree canopy with gorgeous views of the water. Your experience is best described by Katy, our 2016 caretaker: Nestled down a trail of soft pine needles and surrounded by evergreen trees, lies a place in the minds of many passer byers. Most have spent one night here, sometimes two. It has been a certain reprieve for all who enter. Each life greeted with warm hospitality and offered a sit on the deck overlooking the last rays of the sun hitting the pond below. A welcomed sit it is for folks, as they have tired from their travels. Many have seen some spectacular sights along their journeys here, yet this quiet little abode with the swinging pendulum of hemlock limbs, lulls them to a peaceful state away from the noises of the world. Gazing at the waters, tensions lift and faces soften. Contemplation of this place and perhaps even their lives lay in the silence. Upon entering their room, they all smile widely. They climb the outdoor stairs and “Ooooh”s can be heard as they express their initial reactions to the panoramic window views of the embracing pines. There are many different types of people that come here. Couples looking to get away from city life. Friends on excursions. Folks heading to the local fairs. Even the occasional business man needing a place to lay his head. Peoples from all over the world—Germany, France, Australia, China. Almost all have been or are going to incredible Acadia National Park.
Nice and quiet unpaved road with a low speed limit of 15 mph. Property is set back from road, right on the water. Curved driveway means you cannot see the road. Woodsy and secluded, yet convenient to Augusta. All other homes on the road are year-round residences.
  • Great stay and great value :)

  • Visiting Colby or in town for any other reason? No need to stay at a hotel. Bernie and Jody offer a warm and inviting space. I only wish I had more time to learn about their farm. Next time!

    margaret2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Bernie and Jody are great hosts and conveniently available to guests. They are quite busy managing their organic farm which we were invited to look around and enjoy a beautiful sunset. The house is full of antique touches and warming aromas that are made to make you feel right at home.

  • This is the second time I've stayed at Full Circle Farm, and look forward to my next stay there in the future. Bernie, Jody and their family are super kind, welcoming and exceptional hosts; we appreciated the AM coffee and tea as well as mint tea with maple as a nightcap, the opportunity to purchase their freshly harvested produce, and the advice and directions provided for local destinations. Very comfortable and warm farmhouse with a rich family history in a beautiful rural location.

    Betsy2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Full Circle Farm is a century old Maine farmhouse. There is a myriad of rooms that Bernie and Jody rent out as airbnb room as well as rooms for the farm exchange workers. It is full of rustic charm and farm history. There is always something happening at Full Circle Farm.

    Jenny2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a quaint little farmhouse that had just what we needed. We came from Acadia and needed to be in Boston early the next day - this was the perfect location! We stayed in a second floor bedroom with two beds and a private bathroom. If you're looking for a place with frills, this isn't it. If you're looking for a very comfortable place to rest your head and incredible hospitality, you've found the right place! Bernie communicated with us very early on with directions for the farmhouse and was there on the porch with a warm welcome when we arrived. The next day, he provided great recommendations for local breakfast spots. I wish we could have stayed more than one night!

  • Charming home, cozy room with wonderful heater. Very close to coastal hotspots and easy access to I 95 . Sylvia is arguably the most charming host and makes a breakfast that is worthy of visiting for its own sake. Strongly recommend.

    Paul2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a remarkable airbnb-- outstanding for its service, especially for the economical price. It is a small room in a small house, so you need to be comfortable with the comings and goings of the small family and the two big friendly dogs...or if you wish to spend a lot of alone time in your cozy room with heater, Sylvia will respect that as well. The really outstanding part of it is your hostess sylvia, who is more sensitive and attentive to the needs of her guests than practically any airbnb hostess I've seen. She is a native French canadian, speaks fluent french and italian and english,

    Larry2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Sylvia's place is tucked in among the trees in the countryside just north of Augusta. Thank you Sylvia for being a very welcoming host.

  • Sylvia is a very nice host. We had some funny talks and shared our travelling experiences. The room is spacious and homey. The heater is pretty strong and hot. The only thing is the address that means you need to focus on the road and carefully see the intersection. Very easy to drive over the place. Anyway, five stars. Highly recommend!

This is a 2nd story apartment above our garage with a small but fully equipped kitchen, full size refrigerator, microwave, electric stove/oven, double sink (no dishwasher), a plentiful supply of dishes, tableware, cookware, new queen bed, bathroom with shower, hair dryer, bathroom necessities, living area with couch/queen size futon, Smart TV with Apple TV, Fubo TV, wifi, iron & ironing board.
The apartment is above the garage of our 150 year-old re-furbished home. The outdoor space consists of ample parking, flower gardens, a large screened porch off the back of house leading to a large deck and adjacent to a 21’ diameter above-ground pool. The apartment has a private entrance.
A major advantage for our guests is our location. We are within walking distance to many amenities and services, such as banks, churches, eating establishments, gas, groceries, recreation, hair salons, gift shop, library, and, of course, the lake. The local high school grounds offer trails for walking both summer and winter.
  • Janes apartment was much more spacious than I expected. It was an amazing value for a weekend getaway or an easy drive into Augusta. The temp was set at 68 and it’s perfect for us, we prefer a cooler sleeping temperature. Everything you need for preparing a quick meal and there were English muffins for us and half and half for our coffee. My only negative is that the train came thru at 3:30 am and it blows its horn a couple of times. Get up and Pee....If you have no problem getting back to sleep - this is a great place to stay! Our bed was very comfy with plenty of blankets -on the firm side. Jane made sure to meet us before departing in the morning. I appreciated the maple syrup bottle and the beautiful daffodils that greeted us on arrival.

Situated on Three Mile Pond in central Maine you are a short drive to Augusta, Waterville, thirty miles to Belfast and the coast. A true Maine camp sleeps 7 with and an available bunkhouse for a larger group. Nothing beats a Maine camp to relax. The camp is seasonal and in the later fall and early spring be prepared to dress warmly in camp as the weather in Maine is fickle. The camp has two electric heaters , a wood stove and monitor heater but it is still uninsulated .
Traditional Maine Camp on Three Mile Pond in central Maine. Close to Augusta, Waterville, Colby College and 30 miles to the coast. Kayaks and canoes are available and fishing and sailing equipment available on request and if available. Wood stove (wood provided) . Fully furnished and kitchen / dining room supplies. Family camp with a piano and front porch looking over the pond. Local hikes and bicycle trails. Excellent food store and reasonable restaurants near by. Additional sleeping space in bunk house available as second and third bedroom.
Traditional Maine Camp on a Three Mile Pond says it all. Sleeping arrangements are a queen upstairs with two singles in the same room and a small bed for a child under 5. There is a queen fold down futon on the first floor in the sitting room and a single day bed in the same room. There is a bunk house about fifty feet from camp that has electric but no water that has a double and single bed upstairs and a double bed mattress on the ground on the first floor. There is a single large shower, sink and toilet. There is a dishwasher and double kitchen sink. All household water comes from Three - Mile Pond. Spring water from our well is available on site for drinking and cooking.
  • Our group enjoyed our stay at the Maine camp. Very beautiful overlooking the pond, peaceful and quiet. We were a group of 6 and just used the main house, four upstairs and two on the futon on the main level. Bernie and Jody had the lights on and informed us of which house to look for as we arrived after dark. The heat was on but we definitely needed to turn it up since October nights are chilly in Maine. We used the kitchen to make supper and the oven to cook a pie. The pie took longer than recommended to cook in the gas oven but we had the time to wait. The water from the faucet is from the pond and several gallons of cooking/drinking water was available next to the sink. We overlooked this information on the listing but were thankful Bernie and Jody had it labeled in the house. Bernie and Jody had the canoes and kayaks ready for our use. We were able to some paddling in on the beautiful pond before the rain started. Be forewarned if you are not used to gas appliances, different types of heating systems, and country camps/cabins this is not the place for you. Bernie and Jody have beautiful traditional gem in this camp on the pond. If in the area, our group would come back for another visit.

  • We had a good time in this rustic and charming camp. Great landscape, scenic view and a excellent and friendly communication. Given the opportunity we will absolutely stay here again.

  • Places like this are why I use Air BNB. I grew up in Maine and when I come back to visit I’m looking for experiences that take me back in time. This place did not disappoint. This is a proper Maine camp / cabin and the owners have done an amazing job providing an authentic experience..... by leaving it as it was. Every corner has a small treasure or little bit of history.

  • Loved the cottage!

  • Great accomodations! Two families spread out between the bunkhouse and the camp. We used the gas grill for some burgers the evening we arrived and enjoyed playing the piano before retiring for the night. The cool breeze coming off of the lake coupled with the sounds of the waves and loons was very relaxing. The oven was a little tricky for cooking, but we managed to bake a cherry dessert one evening. There is a coffee maker, toaster, and dish washer in the kitchen that were all in working order. We didn't use the washer or dryer, as we were only there for 3 nights. There were plenty of fun board games for the kids to choose from, their favorites being Pokemon Monopoly and Mouse Trap. I took one of the kayaks out to the closer island (roughly 1 mile) and it was great! There is at least one bald eagle that flies over many times during the day. We played many yard games (that we brought with us) and enjoyed some time down by the water in a couple of hammocks (also that we brought). There is a great candlepin bowling alley about 15 minutes away for some rainy day fun. This is a great "Maine camp" to stay at to get away from the electronics (cell phones still get service).

  • This cabin is the perfect little Maine getaway! Checking in and out was simple, and it's easy to see how this place has been loved by many. Would stay here again!

  • A very loved family space in just the best location. We bought lobsters at the nearby supermarket (5 min away) and used the big pot in the kitchen to cook them - just for the experience. So much fun. We took the canoe out in the morning, and although it was raining when we arrived Sat evening, the lake was glass Sun morning. Just beautiful.

  • A picturesque place in the beautiful China Lakes Region, this house was perfect for the five people in my party. The living room/common room and the large picnic table outside are great for gatherings, and there are interesting things nearby to check out, including an antique store down the road. I could hear loons in the early morning, which was a major treat. Check-in and check-out were super easy, and the house rules were straightforward and reasonable. Multiple people in my party said they want to book this place again.

If you are interested in rustic camping but are done with sleeping in a tent, and want to experience Maine on the cheap, this electrified space has housed many a guest over the years. It is an unfinished but cozy 1.5 story loft over a garage. There is no running water and it is NOT suitable for small children due to ladder access to sleeping loft and high deck. There is a camp toilet which is the responsibility of the guest to empty and rinse daily if used. Wifi inside or yard depending.
This space is not for the faint of heart, the ladder is steep and not safe for someone over 200 pounds. There is a small cot and couch on main floor if needed. There is a hotplate, microwave, toaster oven, 2 cup coffee maker, radio, ceiling fan, queen sized mattress and boxspring, and plenty of outlets. A handyperson could get a long term deal on this property if they were willing to put in finishing work. Water is available at the hose. This space is only available during the summer and early fall due to lack of heat and insulation. The whole property is full of paths and is situated on 5 acres of land.
This is a quiet neighborhood on a state route. Backroads lead to the mountains, main roads lead to the coast. We are 1 mile from the public beach. There are biking trails and Mt. Pisgah is a short ride away.
  • This place is super bad ass love it second stay for me

  • For the free-spirited, money conscious traveler! Perhaps one of the most memorable and fun places I’ve stayed. Certainly not for the faint of heart... but if it looks intriguing, go for it and be ready for a memory that’ll last a lifetime. LOVED staying here.

  • It is what it is, much better than camping but not glamping as described! Definitely good fun, thanks for having me Elizabeth.

    Philip2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Elizabeth’s place was a great if you’re looking to stay at a place that’s between camping and glamping. When walking in, the radio was playing and the musical instruments were a very nice touch! The bed that’s up on the loft is comfortable, and I slept well. I didn’t use the appliance though. Elizabeth was really friendly and even offered fresh peaches. Thanks!

This 1-2 person cabin is cozy, simple, and quiet, which makes it a perfect place to getaway and enjoy one of Maine's most incredible lakes! It can hold more guests if you provide your own air mattress and/or tent. Use of kayaks, paddle boards, fire pit, gas grill, and dock slip for your own boat included.
Our cabin has everything you need for the perfect getaway, whether that be two nights or two weeks. We provide you with linens, a stocked kitchen (cookware, utensils, plates, bowls, glasses, etc), a full size refrigerator, microwave, electric convection hot plate, a coffee maker (coffee K cups & tea included), wifi, smart Tv, propane grill, fire pit (with wood provided), and more! We also have kayaks and paddle boards available for use FREE of charge! We want our space to be a place where you can get away, feel at home, and be worry free so you can truly relax while you're staying with us.
Our cabin is located on a small peninsula of a very beautiful Maine Lake (Cobbosseecontee). The road is an association in which most of the cabins are occupied by the owners and their families, which keep things relatively quiet. Our property has a shallow waterfront area for swimming and a dock to tie a boat up to. The sounds of the loons singing on the lake at night will be a peaceful moment you will never forget! (Currently however, the property behind ours was purchased and a home is being built. This means there will be construction during the work week until the home is complete).
  • This place is quaint and very minimalist. It truly was the perfect spot for me and my boyfriends weekend get away. The lake is beautiful and we are hoping to come back in the warmer months to really enjoy the water. I’d recommend it for any couple who loves the great outdoors and doesn’t mind maine cabin living!

    Caroline2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed here for a weekend for our honeymoon and everything was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed thoughtful touches like maine-made local products and wine. The location of the cabin is beautiful and would love to come back during the summertime when we could enjoy the amenities of the lake a little more.

    Faith2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at the cosy cabin, and it was absolutely that. We stayed late September into early October, and it was chilly at night, but warmed up in the mornings once we turned the small heater on. It's amazing how quiet the place was - even in spite of the building work happening behind it. We made use of the kayaks and were surprised by the fact we had the lake to ourselves, and it that the water had retained some of the summer warmth in the shallower parts! We made use of the convection hob, microwave and BBQ and all worked perfectly. There was firewood if we'd wanted to have a bonfire, but the beautiful Maine thunder storm took hold of the night, so we didn't end up using it. The cabin is a wonderful getaway for two people, we felt so lucky to be staying there!

  • Such a wonderful place to stay. Highly redommend.

    Jesse2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet and peaceful. Build a campfire at night and listen to the loons in the morning.

    Steve2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • This quaint cabin is the best we've spent time in for a while. It's calm and quiet, away from town. The amenities we're amazing. Between the kayaks, and paddleboards, to the firepit with wood avaliable. I would definitely return next time we head out to Maine.

    Dale2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • We loved every moment of our stay! I don't think I have ever been more relaxed. You'll be surrounded by trees and water and wont see a soul while you're there. The nightly train, the acorns dropping, the call of the loons, the hissing & popping of the wood stove and fire pit are some of the coziest sounds ever. The propane camp stove worked like a champ. We brought it outside on the deck railing for some outdoor cooking. The water access is very private so we ended up skinny dipping. We did yoga on the deck, bush whacked through the woods, explored the train tracks and just breathed in the clean open air. We drove a Chevy Volt and were just fine on the road. We went 5mph and carefully maneuvered the car over the roots. This is a tranquil spot to relax and expand into nature if that is your cup of tea. It was definitely ours.

    Jenna2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to John's cabin and it was even better than what I remembered from my first! I arrived a bit later than anticipated and ran out of sunlight before finding the road in, John was super quick to respond to ensure all was well when I reached out to him. The driving trail had a few sticky spots and ground clearance would have been helpful, but I just took it easy in my car and didn't have any issues. Everything is exactly as listed and described (minus the gas grill in the pics— bring charcoal!) so there shouldn't be any surprises. I would agree with the suggestion of bringing whatever you think you'll want and need as if on a camping trip and you should be golden. Pro Tip: A strand of battery-powered LED lights adds a lovely ambiance when it gets dark. Or just let the stars do the work! :) I find John's place to be a great balance of quiet and secluded while still having the convenience of anything you may need within a close driving distance if necessary. I would highly recommend it if you're looking to comfortably step back from civilization for a bit and spend some time in nature.

  • UNBELIEVABLE stay at this beautiful cabin. My boyfriend and I got a nice little getaway to unwind and relax. He was skeptical with the no electric or actual bathroom but that ended up being our favorite part. You're really forced to switch up your daily routine. The road to the cabin comes up quick so you really need to keep your eyes open but when you find it you’ll know. Will 100% be back. Enjoy your stay!

    Devin2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place! I’m not sure how people could find anything to complain about. If you’re careful driving down the dirt road, you’ll arrive at an awesome little cabin overlooking the water. Great fire pit and deck to relax on. 5 stars!

  • Great getaway for a weekend with friends. Loved the outdoor space and proximity to the river: truly unbeatable views. Only thing to note is that there aren’t any doors on the bedrooms.

  • Our stay at Ashley’s cabin was a lovely experience for me, my husband and dog! The secluded and serene location was perfect for a nice relaxing getaway. The river fulfilled all my husbands fishing goals for our trip. The one and only thing I would change about the cabin is the view from the deck of the river is a little obstructed with shrubbery. It would really open up the view if it was cleared out a bit. Ashley was accommodating and checked in to make sure our trip was going well, she even checked to make sure we were ok after a big storm! I would love to stay here again in the future!

  • A cute cabin next to the Kennebec River. If you are looking for a place to disconnect from electronics yet be close to sites and restaurants, this is the place to be. The view of the river in the morning on the deck or in the evening by the fire pit are picturesque!!

    Gina2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • A magical spot! The location is beautiful, and the cabin is cozy. We did have problems with heat & hot water (due to electric utility work--not under the control of our hosts), but our hosts responded very quickly. If you can tolerate a few quirks with the building and are not afraid of lighting an old gas range, it's a lovely place to spend some quiet days, watching the geese, marvelling at the leaves turning almost before your eyes, taking advantage of the cozy but well-equipped kitchen, and perusing the amply-stocked bookshelves.

  • Ashley’s cabin was THE picturesque Maine experience! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience all Maine has to offer in the coziest setting!

    Amber2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Well worth the $ and would likely return. No frills and no TV or wifi etc. Just a wonderful place to escape the world and get back to nature. Total seclusion and wonderful place if traveling with a pet. My dog loved the river and huge property to run and play. Would definately recommend this cabin and Ashley was a great host.

  • Our stay at the Sacred River Cabin was excellent. It’s a huge amount of incredibly private space - excellent for relaxation and fun on the water. Can’t say enough good things about this place, our dogs wish they could stay forever.

    Tom2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • The location is superb, quiet and secluded along a river. The cabin is rustic and comfortable with a great grill and deck, the bed on the closed in porch is lovely. We had a great time visiting with our dog. Ashley was easy to communicate with, we’d definitely go again.

  • Mark’s cabin is a great place to unwind and relax. Serenity + lake view= blast! If you’re into fishing, there’s a lot of fish even by the dock at dusk. We enjoyed fishing by the dock. Kayaks available are also very useful in exploring the lake and fishing too! We were able to cook well during our stay. The cabin is equipped with all cookingwares including lobster pot, grill, seasonings, plates, mugs, coffee, and more! I can’t wait to come back for ice fishing season!! My boyfriend and I have been grateful for the experience. Totally recommend!

    Ruffa2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Mark’s place is the ideal place to unplug and relax. It’s situated directly on the lake with a private dock for swimming, kayaking (with the provided kayaks!), and stargazing at night! The area is quiet and away from the tourist areas which makes it very relaxing. The cottage is cozy and has all the amenities you may need like cookware, spices, coffee, reliable WiFi, strong shower, etc. Mark was very communicative and helpful throughout our stay. As others have mentioned, the staircase to the loft is extremely steep and could be difficult for some people. We had an amazing weekend at the cottage and would recommend it to anyone.

    Samir2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • I would certainly stay here again. The lake is beautiful for a nice week or weekend getaway. We were able to cook all of our meals over the fire, and spend a bunch of time on the kayaks. Highly recommended!

    Jordan2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was perfect for our family of four. The water offered kayaking, swimming, and fishing opportunities. The kitchen, patio fireplace, and gas grill meant we could cook anything. All wrapped into a beautiful, quiet setting only one hour from touristy spots on the coast. Mark is a great host, so take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy Maine without the crowds!

    Matthew2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I rented this beautiful place for a week and were overwhelmed with the enjoyment of our experience. This was well worth trip, great for peace and quiet with a beatifuc view of the lake. We love this place

  • Beautiful location!! We had a great time on the lake fishing! Great hospitality and an amazing view!

    Alyssa2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Three mile pond is a perfect getaway for a relaxing vacation. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. We had use of the fire-pit and kayaks and the kids enjoyed swimming. Mark was a great host and responded very quickly to any questions I had. Will definitely stay here again.

    Christine2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great week long stay at the cottage! It was just my son and I and we felt super at home and comfortable. Definitely take the kayaks out at sunset - it was gorgeous! As mentioned in the description, the stairs to the loft are really small and steep, you can't have any mobility issues for them. Would definitely come back and stay again!

Old Moses Farm is a working farm in a quiet, rural setting in mid-coast Maine. It is conveniently located for easy access to mid-coast Maine activities. I keep cows; sheep; pigs; laying hens. Two fine dogs and a cat also call this home. It's a little off the beaten path; a little unplugged; safe; farmstyle comfy & clean. You will have great wifi, but will not find a tv or microwave! Your upstairs room and half-bath is private to you. Downstairs, kitchen and full bath with shower are shared!
Expect country casual here! It is cricket chirping quiet most all of the time, but because it is a working farm, you will hear roosters, etc., singing the song of their people as they feel necessary! Read a book; relax; paint; nap or conveniently visit coastal destinations.
Though the farm feels like it is out in the boonies, we are fortunate to have several great restaurants in the near vicinity, ranging from above average dining to local flavor. There are a couple of General stores nearby; wineries/ distillery; an award winning goat creamery. If you are looking for a morning stroll or run, there is a peaceful route to explore.
  • Maureen is a very nice and welcoming person. She is very humble and kind. Her house is very much clean and quiet. I enjoy my stay in Maureen's house very much. You will absolutely enjoy your stay in Maureen's lovely house.

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Old Moses Farm on our way to the Common Ground Fair! Maureen was a lovely host and her farm is beautiful.

  • A quiet, peaceful accomodation with an attentive host.

    Kevin2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mo, the host, is truly a gem and so humble! She has a wealth of experiences, and these touches make the stay so thoughtful and comfortable. She has an lively farm, and her dogs are such funny characters. If you’re in Maine and want to get away from the hustle and bustle to slow down your pace, this is a great place to do so. My only regret is not having stayed longer!! Highlight of my trip.

    Sally2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Old Moses Farm! Wonderful host, peaceful setting, comfortable house, and sweet four-legged company. Thank you, Mo, for your hospitality and excellent conversation!!

  • Exceptional accommodations on a bucolic working farm with the most welcoming and attentive host! Truly unique experience, you will not be disappointed. Comfortable, welcoming and very clean home!

    Dolores2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • As a fine arts painter, I look for out of the way places to stay and paint. Mo’s place fit that bill nicely. My host (Mo) was friendly and very helpful in pointing out places to paint and things to do the area. I enjoyed a nice meal at the local cafe (Sweet Season Farm Cafe) and then stopped in at the local Blueberry Festival. My room upstairs had its own entrance and was comfortable, neat and clean. The place is a small working farm, with chickens, cows, sheep, pigs and two large friendly dogs. I would definitely visit again.

This is a quaint farm house in a rural setting but not far from many attractions in the mid coast area. It's comfortable, warm, cozy and quiet. There's a lot of wildlife here. I'm very close to Wiscasset, Damariscotta Lake State Park and Damariscotta village. There are some great restaurants and pubs a short drive away. Pemaquid Point and lighthouse on the ocean is a beautiful drive from here as is Rockland, Camden & Augusta. It's a good mid coast location.
My house is in a quiet country setting. It is, however, located mid-coast with access to shopping, restaurants and water access near by. There is a public boat launch that some of my guests have used to go kayaking and canoeing on the Lake Damariscotta. A beautiful clean lake and river close by. Another boat launch is into the Damariscotta River in the village of Damarisscotta. There are farms nearby and views of the lake. This is a very scenic area of Maine. I have also had some people biking through the area in the summer and spring. There are many hiking trails nearby and a short drive away there are hikes along the water.
  • Margaret is the perfect hostess. Her quiet house in a beautiful setting in the Maine woods is cozy, sparkling clean, full of light and thoughtfully appointed. I will go there again in a heartbeat.

    Andres2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret is such a wonderful host. She communicates clearly where her home is located. Her house is warm, comfortable and just always feels like home. When the need arises we will always stay with Margaret!

    Catherine2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • You will be very welcomed at Margaret's home. She is very kind and helpful. You will have a good and quiet sleep at her house.

    Sheila2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jefferson is a charming town and the drive to Margaret's place includes breathtaking views of Damariscotta Lake. You drive up, along Rte. 213, to the top of Bunker Hill and the town's historic buildings, then down about a mile or so to Margaret's place, an early-1800s Cape. Margaret is charming and gracious, a perfect host who provides a wonderful breakfast...starting with the smell of bacon cooked on a wood stove. Genevieve F.

  • I am a really lucky man. This was my first time to stay on Airbnb. I have gotten from her, such as her warm welcome, having an attentive heart, clean rooms, smart use of color that I love for her whole house, an unforgettable taste of English tea and breakfast, AND her natural personality... I'll definitely be back there. Thanks again, Margaret.

  • It was a pleasure to stay at Margaret's home. She took me on a very short notice for a business trip I was on. She made me feel extremely welcomed from the very beginning. She even sent me off in the morning with a warm bowl of oatmeal. Thanks for your kindness! I would definitely welcome another chance to stay with her. She is a great host.

This first floor two bedroom apt has all of the amenities of a fully stocked kitchen. A large deck has a spectacular view of the Kennebec River and boat landing. Use the kayak trailer to walk the free kayaks down to the boat landing. The Kennebec River is like paddling on a long lake. Or use the free bicycles to cycle down the Kennebec River Rail Trail. At the end of the day relax in the hot tub or sauna. Or you can use the full gym which has weights and several aerobic machines
The apt is decorated with LL Bean furniture and has a wood stove.
The apt is located in a residential area just two blocks from downtown Hallowell.

  • Andrea’s place is a true gem! Cozy, romantic, clean and very good and quick communication with host. We booked for just one night, but after basically setting one foot over the threshold we immediately booked another night! This house provides a home away from home. Comes with a parking space as well. We really, really loved it!

  • Andrea's property is really lovely. The decor is cosy with great style. The view of the river from the back deck is a treat. Andrea accommodated us at short notice and the kitchen was well stocked with useful ameneties. Hallowell is a charming little town and I particularly recommend Scrummy Afters sweet shop and Granite City Park along the riverbank.

We have a beautiful, clean efficiency apartment- like suite in a daylight basement on the Kennebec River. This is self check in. We are close to Kennebec Comm College, Colby College, Thomas College and Unity college. Even a wine and cheese shop Meridians . We are just walks away from the Messalonskee trail, this is a groomed trail that is alongside the Kennebec river. PLEASE see the pictures to make sure this is the right fit for you! READ OTHER NOTES BEFORE BOOKING!! Thanks.
This is a daylight "basement" suite. Does not have a full kitchen. This kitchenette has a single cook top with cookware, a toaster oven and microwave. Your stay here is close to town but just out enough to enjoy a peaceful place to relax. We have created a coastal Maine feel to our decor to help you experience an authentic Maine stay.
We are on a side street in a rural part of town. Benton is a small community. We usually use the amenities of the town of Fairfield, just across the river. We have neighbors that are quiet and friendly. We've lived here seventeen years. There's nothing else that compares. We love Maine's coastal area. We are an hour from Portland and fourty-five minutes to Belfast/Camden area. We love Bar Harbor and we can make it a day trip if we want.
  • This my husbands second time and my first time staying here. AWESOME place! Location is so close to everything we needed and their recommendation book was PERFECT. I loved the nautical theme! Definitely 10/10! Thank you!!!

  • Craig and Jen’s place is a great place to stop in the Waterville/Central Maine area! The area very nice and responsive and have a great view of the river. Thanks again!

    Liz2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Craig and Jen’s place was exactly as described in their listing. We found them easily and the steps to the private entrance were shoveled and sanded. The apartment was simple and convenient, similar to a hotel suite with kitchenette. We used the fold out cot, in addition to the double bed, which were both comfortable. We had everything we needed to prepare simple meals. We were able to quickly access downtown restaurants, the grocery store and the cross country ski trails. Read their bathroom notes - it was quirky but functional. We ended up kind of sit-showering, which was fine with us but could be tricky for others.

    Erin2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • I just want to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay,it really felt like being at home on a wonderful relaxing day,not an impersonal corporate cubicle. The river view was enchanting even on a dreary rainy December day,the ducks were awesome.

    Noelle2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • This space is cozy and right by the river! It rained on us when we stayed so we didn't get to enjoy the outside space. I loved the clawfoot tub. But, if you're much over 5'7", you won't be standing for a shower. Overall, I'd visit again earlier in the year!

    Erinn2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Right on the river. Cute place. Everything we needed.

    Kim2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Craig & Jen were awesome! Their place was awesome and exactly what we wanted. Right between the places in Maine we wanting to visit (Bangor & Portland). Benton was awesome and had a lot of things to do as well. Great places to eat! The AirBnB had everything we needed. It was very clean and had anything you would need for a short stay! Would definitely stay there again if we come up that way another time :)

Antique cape farmhouse 2'nd floor bedroom with full size bed. Short walk to the Barn at Silver Oaks down the street. There is a photo, but because people don't look, there are 4 cats! Located on 5 acres of land, 1 mi from downtown, public beach on Maranacook Lake and Norcross Point (free concerts held every Sunday July-August) 10 miles from Augusta, 1 hour drive to Reid State Park on Atlantic Ocean. Free range chickens and geese. Abundance of wildlife. Maine living.
For now this is just a bedroom available, but by next fall I am hoping to have the entire 2'nd floor available for air BnB. This is a NON SMOKING apartment. Cigarette smoking must be done at least 50 feet from entrance of home, and filters put in designated containers due to free range chickens. There are cats and a dog on the property, so if you have allergies probably not a good fit. However, there are no inlaid carpets; pine floors abound. Clean and mellow owner on site and shares apartment with guest during stay. Cooking facilities and all cooking items available. There is a public laundromat about 1.5 miles from home.
My neighborhood is located on a state route, but it is a quiet neighborhood and most of us keep to ourselves. I have 5 private acres that have paths to walk and gardens to enjoy, as well as wild edibles for your enjoyment. Lots of wild birds, including turkeys, as well.
  • Wonderful place to stay!

  • This was a spectacular hidden little gem. Words and pictures, don't even begin to say or show just how wonderful it was there. My husband and I were beyond happy with our stay there. It was such a wonderful surprise to get the beautiful flowers for our anniversary. We loved the sunrises on both days that we were there and the beauty of nature and it's sounds. There was still some wonderful foliage to see. We definitely want to go back again and hopefully bring another couple with us. And we definitely highly recommend this place to any and everyone, especially if you are looking for a wonderful place for a getaway.

    Kim2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Access to lake and the view is awesome. We enjoyed the outdoor fireplace. Stay was made comfortable with the heater.

  • Lovely home by the water! Michael and Karen are outstanding hosts! They are very thoughtful - my husband and I booked for the weekend for a little getaway and they left us a bottle of Prosecco, which we appreciated. In addition, since the water is not potable, they had left us a gallon of fresh water. The cabin itself is beautiful, very well decorated and cozy. Perfect for relaxing and taking time away from the noise of everyday city life. My husband and I love birds, and it was wonderful to find a pair of binoculars since we forgot ours at home. We got to see a couple of loons and a bald eagle! We had a wonderful time and strongly recommend Michael and Karen’s cabin!

The upper “bird’s nest” is the perfect place to watch the stars and commune among the fireflies on a Summer night. With ample windows, the outside is brought in to guarantee romantic evenings to remember.
The property is only a stone’s throw from one of America’s most exclusive dining experiences, The Lost Kitchen. The restaurant is housed in a stunningly restored grist mill only a couple of miles away in the nearby town of Freedom. It has been reviewed and revered worldwide, and received 20,000 requests for reservations last year alone. Coastal Belfast is just 15 minutes away to the South, with plenty of restaurant choices and art stores, while Waterville to the North is home to the famous Railroad Square cinema and Big G’s deli, which must not be missed!
  • Tom was super nice and his property was awesome. Great place to view the stars at night. Also right down the road from the the common ground fair! Thanks again Tom!

  • Tom's hand-built cabin with bathroom facility and outdoor shower adjacent was the perfect upgrade from camping - snug, comfortable, conveniently appointed and homey (hand-painted with glow in dark stars in sleeping loft!) Great for a single and can accommodate a couple, it is a very private setting behind the vegetable garden on his property in a woodsy setting in the hills above the mid-coast towns and the very nice Belfast with it's terrific co-op to anchor, about a 20-25 min drive down the pleasant scenic Rt. 173. Stop at any of the several roadside stores they're all good, open early and late, and Weaver's has a morning bakery as the sun is coming up. Tom and wife are super nice and authentic. Great value, great place, great hosts, and Maine: ME

  • The tiney house was awesome! Very comfortable, just like the ones on TV. It was perfect, rustic but comfortable, I spent my days exploring the coastle cities of Maine and hiking. It was so cool to actually stay someplace that was really doing the sustainable lifestyle! I'm def going back again! Tom was super nice, even refunded me when I had to check out early for work, and didn't mind checking me in in the middle of the night lol, it was great!

The city is a regional center for the arts in central Maine, with renowned art galleries, performing arts theaters, studios, festivals and local artists. Hallowell is also home to renowned bars, taverns and restaurants, with the downtown area having a high concentration of eating and drinking establishments. The rooming house is self checkin. The third floor used to be a dormitory lined with beds each with a set of built in drawers for each bed that are still present. There is a granite block tunnel that leads from the basement to the Kennebec River. The house was recently renovated with many of the original features preserved and the historic beams exposed. Hallowell is two miles from the state capitol, three miles from I-295, three miles from the airport, seven miles from the Concord bus station, and six miles from the Civic Center, the University of Maine and Augusta Crossing (the mall).
Hallowell is a small coastal community on a tidal river and estuary. The house is within two blocks of downtown in a quiet residential neighborhood, No steep hills to climb. Many walking and bicycle trails nearby. Vaughn Brook and trails is a short walk up Second Street. The carriage trails are known as "hobbitland," characterized by granite bridges and gurgling waterfalls. There are also trails around Jamie Pond and the Hallowell Recreation Area where the town beach is located off Town Farm Road.
  • The room truly provides exceptional value. The stay was very comfortable and we particularly enjoyed the many amenities and thoughtful details. Andrea's place is equipped with everything you could possibly want and more! She really goes above and beyond for her guests. We had the pleasure of running into her during our stay and she was incredibly sweet. We made sure to let her know we'll be staying with her again whenever we're in town.

  • This was my first stay in Maine and it exceeded my expectations! The rooms are very cute and cozy. Across the street is a beautiful historic church and it's also walking distance to the downtown district and the Kennebec River. Great food options in downtown Hallowell and the little tavern stays open pretty late so you have have a drink and listen to the band at night. Perfect place for a solo traveler!

    Samantha2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • A very stylish and well equipped location close to a charming Main Street. Good news - the church clock opposite does not bong through the night!

  • Perfect stop to stay overnight between Maryland and Prince Edward Island. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer to enjoy everything offered. The house was more than clean and very quaint yet modern with a large and inviting kitchen. Shared bathroom worked out well and we had lots of privacy but other guests were kind when we encountered them. Host was helpful too about local spots. A great spot off of the highway!

  • Excellent room and amenities for a price and location that can’t be beat! Andrea was incredibly nice, helpful, responded quickly, and provided everything we needed for our stay in Hallowell. Highly recommend and would definitely stay there again

Our home is a few minutes' drive from downtown Hallowell, which offers many restaurants and a bustling nightlife. We are also located near a rail trail entrance, which is a charming way to walk, run, or pedal your way downtown. In the warmer months, cool off in our large in-ground swimming pool. We welcome travelers of all kinds, but our cat prefers the bipedal variety (no dogs).
Our home is large and full of character. Built around 1900, it is a unique and beautiful space which we are happy to share with guests. This is a home, not a hotel. We do not provide meals, but you may use our kitchen to cook or our refrigerator to store food. Please be aware that the main bathroom is shared, as are all spaces except the bedrooms. We encourage open communication to facilitate understanding between hosts and guests, especially for longer-term stays. It never bothers us, but traffic noise from the nearby road has occasionally been noted as bothersome to certain guests.
Hallowell is a beautiful, friendly city with a robust nightlife. Live music, antique shops, and lovely architecture are some of the things you might notice about the Granite City. There are also many restaurants to choose from. Be aware that during the week, most kitchens close around 9pm. On the weekends, kitchens may be open as late as 10pm. It may help you to research different options before you arrive!
  • A nice room in a beautiful family home. We were in and out for one night but our host were very nice. Thanks!

  • This is one of my favorite Air Bnb’s!!! I stay here any time I’m in Augusta and always look forward to it. It’s in a quiet neighborhood but a quick walk into Hallowell center and some awesome bars if that’s your kind of thing. The owners are very friendly though so usually join them for a beer and a game of pool on their table.

  • Erik and Rebecca were awesome hosts, they made us feel very welcome! The room was clean and pleasant, the pool and hot tub were a very nice bonus, I only wish we hadn't been so busy during our stay to enjoy their company more. Walking distance from downtown Hallowell, I recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet room within reach of the coolest little town in the area!

Built in 1823, this typical New England farmhouse welcomes you to rest, restore and come back to yourself. Convieniently located in Central Maine. We make an excellent base for day tripping to favorites like Belfast, Camden and Rockland (45 minutes) and Bar Harbor (90 minutes) to name a few. Close proximity to Colby and Thomas Colleges. Perfect for leaf peeping too! Check in available by arrangement from 3pm till 9pm
The guest wing of the home is located privately in it's own wing. Tastefully decorated and thoughtfully renovated, the history charm and character of a 200 year old farmhouse has been maintained. The location couldnt be better - we are a perfect spot to use as a base for exploring the beautiful state of Maine!
The little village of China has great access to fishing and general lake activities. a general store/gas station, a lake side eatery, diner and grocery store. We are "on the way to everywhere" and only 35 minutes from the coast. Breweries and wineries are close by too.
  • Gary and Fiona's place is charming and quiet, a lovely way to spend the night in a clean and tidy early American farm home. Their property has a mix of well kept lawn and shade trees that fit the history of the property. We liked visiting with them both, and sendoff was a cozy breakfast in a sunny kitchen and dining area. We'd love to stay here again!

  • A really lovely bnb to stay at with great hosts. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in this area.

    Emma2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona & Gary made our Maine Autumn vacation so very special! We can not recommend them highly enough! From their tips & insight into local Maine areas/activities, to their custom hot breakfasts, to their clean and comfortable facilities ... and they even have 2 wonderful goats you can pet/enjoy. Beautiful large yard with relaxing hammocks... you’re lucky for having come across their Air B&B ad - look no further! ♥️🍁🍷🏡

    Philip2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful experience! As Parents of a Colby College Junior, our only regret is that we didn’t find Fiona and Gary earlier! The room and shared living space are both beautiful and comfortable. The back porch and walk to the lake were a treat. And best of all we’re conversations with Fiona and Gary; it was like staying with friends! We will absolutely be back!

    Jennifer2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The photos don't reveal the more than amazing specialness of this Airbnb. The views are spectacular, the antique decor, luxurious bedding But the best part was the conversation with Fiona and Gary!!

    Sherri2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Fiona and Gary are the most wonderful hosts. Their beautiful old home is charming, comfortable and clean. Fiona makes the most amazing breakfasts - and both she and Gary are delightful to chat with. They gave us great recommendations on local restaurants and hikes. They also let us feed their goats. ;) We loved staying with Fiona and Gary and will definitely book with them again next time we're in Maine.

  • Such a gorgeous place to stay and for a great price too! Fiona and Gary were very kind and helpful, we really had a wonderful time. Very peaceful. Breakfast was delicious and our suite was very clean and nice (coming from a housekeeping manager🙃)! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area, and I will definitely be back in the future myself!

SUMMER ROSE - overlooking the pasture, at The Appleton Retreat. You will enjoy privacy and silence, except for natures calls. The Appleton Retreat is situated on 120 acres of privately owned land. To the south, and just a short walk from SUMMER ROSE is the Pettengill Stream, a resource protected area where you may hang out or kayak; and to the north, a wooded trail leads to a secluded pond on 1,300 acres of Nature Conservancy protected property.
Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, The Appleton Retreat is just 30 minutes to the scenic mid-coast towns of Belfast, Rockport, Camden and Rockland. And in midsummer if you want to avoid tourists visit the laid back local towns, Hope, Liberty, Freedom, Washington, Searsport...... and many others.

Located only about 6 minutes from I95, my cozy cape, built in 1948, maintains a lot of its original charm with hardwood floors, built-ins, soft corners and warm colors. Your private room has access to public living room, kitchen, and shared bathroom. The private backyard also makes a lovely place to sit and unwind. Easy access to groceries, movies and restaurants in Downtown, but tucked into a quiet neighborhood on a dead-end road, this is the perfect blend of insulation and accessibility.
Like many small neighborhoods in the area, this was a very strongly French neighborhood when it started. The house is built in a style very similar to others built in its era, and with design features that harken back to a time of small families and big values. Important to note: because of the size of the rooms, the sofa bed is in the living room, so privacy is limited, but I am very respectful of your space. Also know that there is only one bathroom, so guests will share that with each other, and with myself, as well as the kitchen.
    Quiet neighborhood. Families and dogs.
  • Roberts place was a nice place to put my head down at night. He communicated clearly with me leading up to and during the stay. My trip lasted nearly two weeks and I had zero problems the entire time. A nice warm room with space, firm bed, cooking options if needed... couldn’t ask for much else. Location was nice as it was sort of near everything in the Waterville area. Would highly recommend for 1-2 people if they are looking for value and don’t need to live a lavish lifestyle.

    George2019-12-13T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great stay at Robert's place and he is very respectful of your privacy. I highly recommend you book him on your next trip when you're in the area!

Enjoy the splendid views over Pattee Pond.... Our cabin is situated on a quiet dirt road and we feel like it’s more relaxing and homey than a hotel stay... If you’re looking for that cozy, back-to-nature space to unwind, then this is the place to be!
While we are located in a woodsy lakefront setting, it’s only a short drive to grocery stores, restaurants and shops and parks
  • A rustic camp right on a pond facing east. Neighbors are close by and very nice. We enjoyed an a most amazing moonrise right from the deck looking across the pond. Gorgeous view. Mike and Paula responded quickly and were a delight to work with.

    Tim2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Mike & Paula's place could not have exceeded my expectations more! It was cozy, immaculately clean, a beautiful home, had wonderful amenities and spectacular views!! The water pressure was impressively strong for the house being RIGHT on the water, the water also got nice and hot for a shower. The bed was quite comfortable (I slept in the king in the bottom floor). The house has three large decks, each with a nice secure railing and a great view of the sunset and sunrise over the pond. The pond was frozen over and made for a fun place to walk around straight off the back of the property. In the warmer months that access straight into the water would be unbeatable! Paula and Mike left a binder on the kitchen table with some excellent recommendations - I took their suggestion for Mainely Brews, a short drive away, and the food was superb. I'd drive the hour north from my house just to eat there in the future. The home was very well-appointed with extra blankets, plenty of towels, a pair of dog bowls and a pair of dog beds for furry companions, salt, pepper, coffee, plenty of cookware and eating ware. Perhaps most of all, I was very impressed with how clean the house is. Even the gas stove was in pristine order! Paula was very timely, friendly, and helpful in our communications, and the long road in was well-maintained and easily passable even with fairly fresh snow on the ground. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Mike & Paula's place with my dog, and look forward to returning in seasons and years to come!
