Places to stay in Pyengana
Spacious self contained cottage on a working cattle and prime lamb farm. Other farm animals include, friendly dogs, chooks, and horses. Perfect location to set up as a base for NE Tassie adventures. Check out my guidebook. There is plenty to see and do in this area, so consider staying for two or more nights to explore our magnificent Pyengana valley, the Blue Tier walking and MTB trails or just visit the many waterfalls. IMPORTANT read directions as some GPS have been wrong!!!
I am available for contact via message or home phone, these are checked regularly throughout the day however response may not be instant if I am out working on the farm. Please be aware that telstra service IS NOT available in the area only Vodafone.
Close by are some great short walks, including St Columba Falls, Halls Falls, The Big Tree. Trout fishing, in season available in the North George River which flows through our property, has some great fishing holes. Located 20 minutes drive from The Blue Tier, giving access to mountain bike and walking trails. . The Farm Gate Cafe and Pub in the Paddock are both well known local eateries 5 minutes drive away.
  • Three nights at Tara and Ged’s Farm stay was an absolute experience. Beautifully located to enjoy the beauty of the the rainforest and waterfalls as well as the glorious coast and Bay of Fires, this place had it all. The Farm in itself had the joy of authenticity, dogs and horses to cuddle, and valley views to die for. Thank you for the amazing Tassie memories.

  • Beautiful spot and immaculate cottage. Tara's personal touches and helpful chats about the area were great. Lovely stay.

  • Our stay in Pyengana was fantastic. We were only able to stay one night, but if we were to visit Tasmania again, we would definitely make a trip back out to Pyengana and stay at Tara's cottage. The space was lovely - very spacious, beautifully styled, and had a great 'country cottage' feel. Tara was a great host and provided helpful tips for the Pyengana area. We also loved getting many cuddles with the dogs and picking fresh apples from the tree! Would love to visit again.

  • Tara’s is a lovely place to stay. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped and very delicious breakfast including fresh farm eggs was provided. Tara gave us very useful local knowledge, and the location was unique and so peaceful. Great place to stay.

  • Hands down an absolutely beautiful place and our favourite stay in Tasmania. The house is stunning, with lots of lovely walks around. It's peaceful and Tara is a wonderful host (as well as the dogs!). Would wholeheartedly recommend without hesitation to anyone on the road trip round Tasmania - you'll have a wonderful time.

  • Such a lovely place! My partner and I absolutely fell in love with it. We wish we had booked 3 or more nights to enjoy the local area and all the gorgeous walks, rather than just one! We had everything we needed, plus some extra comforts and we felt so relaxed and at home at Tara's place!

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! The cottage was beautifully designed with many photo spots for Instagram worthy shots! Loved the outdoor patio with the fire stove and the indoor space was well designed as well. Great amenities and Evan and his wife made us feel welcomed and comfortable in our cosy cottage!

  • What a find this place is! Only a few minutes out of town and yet peacefully tucked away amidst beautiful gardens. Its totally private and has great ambience. The cottage is beautifully decorated and was well equipped for our every need. Comfy beds too! So many thoughtful touches too numerous to mention, especially loved the freshly baked loaf of bread, homemade jams, and chocolates. A great base to explore the Bay of Fires region. Cant recommend this place highly enough!

    Sandy2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • AMAZING PROPERTY! So close to town, but feeling like you are on your own piece of heaven. The house was large and full of small touches that really added value and made it feel like home. The only place I would consider if I stayed in St Helens again

    Andrew2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our trip to the bay of fires was beautiful, and staying at Tully Cottage made it so much better. Evan and Amaya were such friendly welcoming hosts! They made sure we got there safely and gave us advice on where to go. Seeing the listing we had very high expectations, and they managed to exceed them with fresh bread, a clean and cozy cottage with a patio perfect to snuggle under a blanket on a breezy night. The whole area is lovely, and the well tended fruit trees and plants make the gardens lovely to wander around!

    Elizabeth2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • What wonderful hosts! They were quick to respond to our messages and we loved the thoughtful touches like the homemade bread and special delivery of peaches and eggs! Our son loved exploring the orchard and visiting the chickens on the property. A wonderful base for the Bay of Fires. We highly recommend Tully Cottage!

  • This cute little cottage is off the road but close to the beach and St Helens. We enjoyed the quite and both had the best sleep. One night we took a glass of wine and cheese to the beach, no one else was around it was just perfect. Wildlife abounds, we saw black Cockies. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need.

  • Cosy bush retreat ! Views of trees are panoramic, making the place so private and quiet. Very comfortable bed and great ammenities. Basic kitchenette but electric grill/ hot plate make cooking possible. Croissants for breakfast were yummy, however bring some extra condiments along as these were lacking (e.g. no butter or jam) Loved the crayfish theme extending throughout the whole cottage. Caroline is a great communicator and friendly host. Great place to stay!

It was a very enjoyable stay, with local shops and library (lovely story time at 10.30 on Friday’s) just a four minute drive away. Incredibly comfortable master bed, lots of kitchen ware for cooking in. Useful laundry room. Nice bathroom products. Very quiet location. We loved the beaches at Binalong Bay and further up the coast at Honeymoon Point Road. Would recommend this place to stay.

Branxholm is a great little town with an awesome pub, italian restaurant, coffee shop and IGA supermarket. There is also a town swimming pool open though the summer
  • Great hospitality, easier checkin and a cracking spot. Highly recommended

  • Nice quiet spot in the countryside. 5 mins drive to the trails at Derby. Josh runs MTB shuttles and gave some good tips on which trails to take.

  • Josh’s place in Branxholm is terrific. Very clean and well resourced with a killer view! Josh was very generous with his time and a great host. Unreservedly recommended!

  • A great base to explore the Derby trails. Very clean and comfy accommodation. The beds are extremely comfy, got a great nights sleep after being on the trails. Gear host. Nice sitting round the log burner in the evening. Would highly recommend and good value for the area.

Our uber retro/beachy units are a bad match of old and new, BUT, they are ideal to kick back and relax. Parking at the door, fully self contained (shared laundry). 200m to the beach, great fishing and in between Bay of Fires and Wineglass Bay!
Our studio unit is fully self contained and has everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay by the beach - plus - free WIFI. Situated smack bang between the Bay of Fires, St Helens, Bicheno, Wineglass Bay, Freycinet National Park and so many other great places, we are an ideal place to base yourself to explore Tasmania's East Coast. Our units are comfortable but don't expect the Ritz! We keep them meticulously clean, however our budget can't stretch yet to getting us a nice modern facelift, so for now, enjoy the ambience of an unpretentious unit with awesome views! Bedding configuration in our studio unit is 1 x queen bed. But if you need more beds for more people, check our other listings as we also have one and two bedroom units :) This unit does provide full wheelchair access if required including a wheel in shower and toilet. Mobility friendly shower chairs, stools etc are available upon request at no additional charge and railing is installed in the toilet area. Park right at your door and sit outside and soak up the sun.
Scamander is such a great little place to stay in away from the hustle and bustle of St Helens (15 minutes up the road). 100m as the crow flies is the post office with the best coffee this side of St Helens, then across the road are the best fish and chips in Tasmania! Then right next to that is our awesome river and beach. The playground is fantastic for children with plenty to keep them busy for hours. The two bridges in Scamander are always popular for fishing and exercising - and for kids riding their bikes across flat out!! Scamander has it's own IGA supermarket and two petrol stations (no LPG gas though) as well as two restaurants just down the street. Scamander River Golf Course is spectacular and you can enjoy a drink after at the well patronized bar. Scamander is a real seaside town where everyone will give you a wave!
  • Uncomplicated and practical studio.

  • A grea place to stay for the night. The unit was extremely spacious and the bed very comfortable!

    Emma2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a terrific find this cottage was. It's very conveniently located (close to the beach) and very well appointed. It would be ideal for a beach holiday. The cottage is comfortable and airy. I had a fabulous night's sleep and was reluctant to get out of bed this morning. The bathroom is spacious and contains very thoughtful touches such as shower chairs and rails to assist with balance. The shower is very roomy and the water is hot and great pressure. Both important when you've had a long drive. I was warmly greeted by Vicki, the caretaker, who couldn't have been more helpful. Although I was there for just one night, it was a relaxing and quiet stay. I would happily book in here again when visiting the east coast.

This cottage is one of the earliest buildings on the east coast of Tasmania, being built in around 1832. Recently restored, The Surveyors Cottage has an instant appeal with its high ceilings and beautiful light from the Georgian windows. The open fire is the star attraction - so warm and welcoming. An intimate space for two people, within easy walking distance of most local eateries & shops. Unlimited wifi if the fire isn’t enough to keep you happy.
The cottage is decorated with antique furniture befitting its time frame, a very comfy sofa and television. The bed is super comfy, we use quality pure cotton linens, Australian wool quilts & pillows, and of course an electric blanket. There is a wall heater in the bedroom for your sleeping comfort. The new en-suite is open plan beside the bedroom - please check the photos - if you like privacy in the bathroom this may not be the space for you! A fridge, microwave, sandwich press and toaster are provided together with a selection of loose leaf teas, and of course a china teapot. We offer a complimentary gin & tonic on arrival, a selection of condiments, a jug of milk and a few snacks. The main room of the cottage has a wall heater, plus the gorgeous wood fire. We supply kindling and fire lighters, plus a basket of wood in the entry. Unlimited wifi.
Our cottage is centrally located, and in walking distance to restaurants, cafes and local shops. Nina’s Restaurant is directly opposite our cottage; the post office is next door. The chemist is two doors down, and the news agency 3 doors down. Our Lifebuoy Cafe is 200 metres south at 29 Quail Street. We offer a 20% discount to our guests. We highly recommend Furneaux Restaurant (recently voted best Regional Restaurant in Australia) which is a 5 minute drive south, or a 15 minute easy walk. The Bayside Hotel offers a good pub meal. Skipper’s at the waterfront, or The Wharf offer local seafood. The East Coast Providore is opposite the cottage and has great Tasmanian produce and meals you can heat in the cottage.
  • Fantastic little cottage, just right for a couple. Oozing with history and charm. Gorgeous fireplace. Close to everything. Highly recommended.

    Amanda2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a beautiful space. Loved the decor and the interesting historical pieces placed around the cottage. The open fire topped off this wonderful stay. The cottage was sparkling clean with quality linen used throughout. Jane was an amazing host. So welcoming and kind. I can not recommend this place highly enough. We had an amazing stay whilst visiting the stunning scenery in this region. Thank you Jane and Mark for welcoming us.

  • Beautiful space. Thoughtful touches.

    Brooke2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful space with thoughtful touches and luxe bedding. It's right in the heart of St Helen's; we enjoyed walking down to the wharf for dinner and breakfast around the corner at Lifebuoy Cafe.

  • Quaint cottage perfectly renovated ❤️

    Clare2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • We highly recommend Jane's guesthouse. A lovely, sensitive conversion of an old surveyor's cottage that is homely and cosy and yet has all mod cons! Jane is a great and unobtrusive host.

    Neil2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's cottage is very well appointed and situated in a great location right in the centre of town. It has been renovated beautifully while maintaining the original character. We had a very enjoyable stay and will recommend to our friends.

I do genuinely enjoy giving advice to guests and being a guide; it's rewarding to hear of guest having a good time. I will try to add a personal touch to each individual guest : MOTTO : treat others the way you would like to be treated.
  • Very nice place and quiet. Friendly dogs were fabulous, enjoyed every second of the stay

    Brayden2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • The condo exceeded our expectations. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the location was so peaceful. My partner and I slept brilliantly and we had everything we needed for a lovely stay. Pauline was great with communication but also gave us complete privacy. There were lovely touches like fresh bread and milk waiting for us and the kind offer to pick fruit from the trees in the garden. We also appreciated the flexibility given for check in and check out given we arrived late in the evening. The shower was great and everything was clean. Cooking options are limited to an electric frying pan in the kitchen and BBQ outside (plus the option of a roast dinner if booked in advance) but we knew that from the listing and had no issues making a good breakfast and also preferred to eat out for our other meals. It's a great location to stay if you're mountain biking in Derby which is only 20 mins down the road. We would definitely stay again.

    Lucy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning views from this large well equiped room with cooking facilities. Nice and quiet and private too. We used it as a base to go mountain biking at Derby about 15mins away and also to do some hiking. Pauline made us feel very welcome.

  • We visited Peter's place for only one night and were blown away with the little cabin. We fell in love with the space the moment we walked in. It is so cozy and welcoming, there are so many interesting collections of books and DVD, even VHS. It was within walking distance to a beautiful quiet beach. I have already told all my friends about this place and cannot wait to return. Peter is also an amazing host, very kind.

    Alex2020-03-09T00:00:00Z

  • Pete’s place is amazing. The space is large, comfortable, and has everything you might need from a fully equipped kitchen to a washer and dryer. We were traveling up the east coast and Pete told us about some amazing places that we would have never found if it wasn’t for his advice. Would give 6 stars if I could.

  • Great stand-alone wooden house. The landlord is the most intimate we have ever encountered. All the supplies you think of are available. The space is spacious, comfortable and neat. It is definitely recommended!

  • Welcoming, friendly, comfortable, homely, unique and warm, Peter's little house has a big heart. Make some time to spend looking at the art, books, collectables and games Peter has carefully and sweetly placed in this little paradise. All the amenities are there. Great for a rainy day!!! The beach is a very close walk. Pristine beaches beckon a sunset stroll and birdsong serenades you in the morning. The Milky Way was like a brilliant light show at night. Don't hesitate to stay if this is your kind of hospitality. Thanks Peter. It was unforgettable. We will be back.

In the heart of the Bay of Fires Conservation area, The Shack is on one of the best natural beaches in the world (ref: Lonely Planet). It is a small, simple stand-alone timber beach bungalow: cosy and snug in winter with sheepskins and heaters, uninterrupted views and sounds of the elements from every angled window and deck: a genuine relaxing respite, loved by world travellers. Great for couples, nature lovers, artists, photographers and rugged-up long winter walks.
The Queen-size bed with feather doona is on a mezzanine level. There are stairs and high decks which makes it unsuitable for small children. All necessary comforts are there, easy to rearrange to your liking eg bbq can be wheeled to front or back deck. A torch is suggested to spot the wild-life or follow the track to the beach at night.
The position of "The Shack" allows privacy with houses some distant apart. Please email or phone me rather than disturbing the neighbours unless in an extreme emergency.
  • Rustic stay in a beautiful spot. Went for a hike north along the bay of fires beach - 5 hours of solitude and incredible beauty. Well worth it!

  • Wow. If you want the most relaxing, gorgeous views you’ve ever seen then stay at the shack. Had a fantastic 2 nights at Chris’s shack and I’ll be sure to come back in the summer. Gorgeous little shack with a laid back boho beachy feel to it. I fell in love with the place😊

    Kimberley2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Whata view! Despite the ordinary weather we thoroughly enjoyed winding down at the shack. The oysters down the road are unbeatable. The shack had everything we needed

  • Call Christine's place a "shack" if you will, but I prefer to think of it as paradise. I loved every minute looking at the sea, walking along the beach, and enjoying her comfortable, cozy home. I hope I have the chance of coming back someday.

    Sandra2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • You will struggle to find a better view anywhere in Australia! Beautiful Taylor’s Beach is at your back door and the shack has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. For the more adventurous, drive to the end of Gardens Road, clamber over some rocks, and you have one of Tasmania’s best beach walks. Highly recommended!

  • We enjoyed our two night stay in Scamander as part of a road trip of Tasmania. The property was centrally located and Nic & Alicia really went out of their way to provide as many tips and advice as possible which made the stay perfect. Thanks for the good tip on the fish and chips in St. Helens - it was so fresh and delicious!

    Amy2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful stay at Nic and Alicias. The house was a beautiful spot and was perfect for a small group of 4 of us looking for a clean, comfortable spot to base ourselves while exploring Tassie’s east coast. Would definitely stay again!

  • Cute place in Scamander with a spacious kitchen and living room. The beach is accessible by walking around some water and crossing the bridge. We enjoyed our stay in scamander!

    Sofia2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space with fabulously comfortable bed. Short walk to the beach and great coffee at Swims. Great kitchen but take the host’s advice and stock up before you get to Scamander if you plan on a night in. Not a lot of dining options in Scamander itself but plenty within a 20 min drive. Grab some fresh seafood and wine from the local wineries and sit on the back deck and enjoy the view.

  • This was my favorite stop in Tasmania for the hospitality and feel of the place alone. Peter and Christian thought of everything.. there were muffins and tea on arrival, a magnificent breakfast, a robe, and cute pups (only if you’d like to see them)... so many little touches to make a big impact! I wouldn’t hesitate to book again for my next trip.

Everything is within walking distance of their place which makes discovering Branxholm so easy. Breakfast was huge, an amazing start to the day. Would highly recommend them as hosts!

  • Very good experience ~ Peter's hospitality has helped us a lot! Christian said hello to us in Chinese ~ Very friendly ~ We have a bedroom, a small living room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom, all of which we use independently. It was better than expected, clean and welcoming, and the bed was comfortable to sleep ~ The breakfast in the morning was hearty! I really entertained us very much ~ Miss a few dogs and cats at home, and chickens and geese in the backyard ~ All in all very satisfied! recommend!

The Bush Hideaway is located in the small seaside community of Binalong Bay, offering a unique combination of a beach shack in a bush setting. Our eco friendly accommodation is conveniently located within an easy 2 minute walk to the world famous beach of Bay of Fires. The untouched coastline is known for its white sand, turquoise waters and fiery lichen licked boulders. It is perfectly located for exploring the coastline, swimming, fishing, boating, bushwalking & relaxing.
The Hideaway is a cosy beach shack on a bush block that backs onto the local Humbug nature reserve. It boasts a rich array of bird life and white tail possums. It is within an easy 2 minute walk to the main beach Bay of Fires. Other areas of interest close by are skeleton bay, grants point and elephant head. The Hideaway is a beach shack that offers a cosy open plan lounge/dinning area for guests as well as a fully equipped kitchen (including microwave, toaster, kettle, wine fridge). The main bedroom is on the upper level featuring a king bed and its own private deck overlooking the ocean. The second bedroom is accessed on the lower level by the main deck. It has two single beds and one double. There is one large bathroom that features a large spa overlooking the bush setting. Other things to note: The local area has no town water supply. We rely on rainwater to fill our tanks. We ask that you please be mindful of your water usage during your stay. The largest town near Bay of Fires is St Helens, so this is a good place to stock up on food, alcohol, and assorted other supplies before you arrive. There’s an IGA, BWS, a bakery, and assorted other shops. There is poor mobile reception in Binalong Bay (Telstra is the main service provider and can still have poor reception), so it’s a good idea to do most of your research and planning before you arrive.
The town of Binalong Bay is a small beachside community situated at the southern end of the picturesque Bay of fires. Binalong bay is famous for its powder white sand and turquoise coloured ocean with iconic large orange lichen covered boulders. The local shops including IGA supermarket, eateries, service stations and other amenties and servies are a short 15 minutre drive from the property in the main township of St Helens.
  • A nicely done renovated cottage in a bush setting and within walking distance of Binalong Bay beach and the popular cafe/restaurant. Lovely view from the main bedrooms wide windows. The second bedroom is under the cottage and has an external entrance down steps from the balcony. A nice quiet place to relax without internet or wifi.

  • Lovely cabin with a great view. We really enjoyed having breaky out on the deck and soaking in the serenity. Easy roll into town. Great bike storage facilities. Well setup kitchen which comes in handy in Derby as not a lot of dinner options in town. Tim was very responsive.

    Andrew2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Tim’s place was very comfortable and relaxing, especially after a long day mountain biking. It was a lovely place to unwind, cook up in the great kitchen and outdoor BBQ, wash our clothes in the washing machine, store our bikes and gear in the shed, terrific shower and just an overall nice homely stay. Great quiet location and outlook, close to Derby trails which is just what we needed during our stay. Thanks Tim.

  • Falmouth reminds one of the film “Babettes Feast”. A beautiful take on coastal life set in Denmark - however Falmouth lies in the heart of the East Coast of Tasmania. Greg is a fantastic host and his property is a charming cottage that sits slightly back from the cliff edges and windswept beach. Inside, the fireplace takes centre stage filling the house with love and warmth making it feel like you’ve lived there your whole life... I won’t forget Falmouth.

We met Gregory at the start of our stay who told us he was nearby in case of a problem but he left us to our own devices respecting our privacy. We loved the place.

  • If you are after a true coastal escape, this is absolutely perfect! Such a beautiful place to stay for a few days and unwind, with sea views from most places in the house and quiet surroundings its hard to beat. A very cute house filled with great amenities and little touches to help you enjoy your stay without anything being over the top. I cannot recommend this highly enough and I know I will be back in the near future!

Cottage Accommodation Tasmania Falmouth on the East Coast of Tasmania To stay at the delightful White Shell Cottage is to take a step back in time to a place where your worries were few and life just seems easy. The term cottage is being modest, really it is the size of a holiday home, particularly the recently renovated open plan dining and lounge areas that feature a warm fireplace, high ceilings, timber features and a large cosy couch complete with fluffy cushions and rugs.
Windows are designed to be open to let the sea breeze in or make use of the air conditioning to get that perfect temperature. If you have an eye for good interior design you will appreciate the laid back ‘cosy meets classy’ feel, with a modern kitchen featuring everything you that you have at home; a modern dishwasher, microwave, fridge, stovetop and all the equipment needed to cook a tasty meal for friends and family. Tasmania’s East Coast is renowned for its stunning ocean views and white sand beaches and the views from White Shell Cottage will not disappoint. This property is situated on what would be one of the original prime pieces of land in Falmouth, so gorgeous views of the beach and ocean are particularly impressive from the large lounge room. There are two outdoor areas, the deck and patio at the front of the cottage is a perfect place to relax on a deck chair and view the waves rolling in with a good book or a cheeky glass of sparkling wine at sunset. The private front garden will be a favourite place to rest, play and soak up the ocean and beach views. There is a sheltered BBQ area perfect for a lazy long lunch. The location lends itself to impromptu beach walks on the white sand taking in the rolling waves, blue hues and breathing that East Coast Tasmania fresh air. It is a complete beach side experience, with a safe sheltered lagoon and boat ramp practically on the doorstep. Two of the three historic timber lined bedrooms feature queen beds, with two single beds in the third room. Quality mattresses and linen are used on the beds and the bathroom boasts both a shower and a bath which is perfect for a relaxing soak. Falmouth is a small beach side village, so the best place to stock up with food supplies are Scamander which is 20 minutes north, or for more choice and local restaurants, the larger town St Helens which is 30 minutes north, is a great option. The White Shell Cottage is the relaxing space you have been looking for your next holiday or weekend escape.

  • Gorgeous, character beachouse with the beach only 20 metres away. The sound of the waves at night was blissful! Super comfy beds, stunning views, well stocked pantry too. Responses to our queries were instant - at one point we lost water (turned out to be a power issue) and someone arrived and fixed it in 10 minutes - really fantastic customer service. Blue wrens in the front yard and beach combing made our visit very special.

  • Just Jeoff’s felt cosy and warm from the minute we walked in the door. Yes, the decor is a little dated but the photos don’t really do the cabin justice - it was spacious, quiet and comfortable and had everything we needed for a short stay.

    Caroline2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • As we entered the house we fell in love at first sight. The house is well equipped and was very clean. It was a good base for exploring the Bay of Fires and the Freycinet National Park.

  • Peace and quiet.

    Matthew2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a week at Geoff's shed over Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This little place is as close as you can get to the stunning beaches of st Helens point and we took full advantage with long swims everyday. The property is located on a sweet, quiet cul de sac with Georges bay at the end - good for an evening stroll across the mud flats and viewing of the soldier crabs marching along. The place is beside a beautiful scrub land, with a picnic table out back to listen to the bird song over dinner. The house is clean, well appointed and Leonie had thoughtfully put out some Christmas decorations to make us feel at home. We'd definitely stay here again.
