Places to stay in Costa Rica
Located in the heart of town, ten minute walk to museums, National Theater, the mail Building and Central Avenue. The place has lots of light and a beautiful mountain view. It is spacious, has a full size bed and a pullover couch. Fully equipped kitchen with all the amenities and bathroom with hot water shower. The building does not have a garage or parking space. The address is pinned in google maps. It is self check in. No sexual tourism permitted. Read my reviews guests are very honest!
Self Check in Studio apartment, with full size bed and a pull over couch , internet and cable tv. Ideal if you come for vacation, and want to make one day trips to the mountains or to the beach, its also perfect for your first or last nights in Costa Rica, so you can get the feeling of busy down town. If you come for medical tourism it is about 15 minute drive to most hospitals and dental clinics, it is in the middle of the city. Located on the 5th floor, there is elevator, it has a great view of the mountains to the north side of town, and its located very close to all main museums and attractions in the heart of San Jose.
The place is located in the heart of the city and there is much traffic and people around the neighborhood specially in week days. San José is a very busy city, it gets very crowded during the day and at night gets lonely. It has a big population of homeless , so you should not be over confident when walking around the city. Although we are a small country every day in San José more then one million people go through the city on transit to work , school or hospitals, many located in the great metropolitan area. The apartment is located near hotels, restaurants, parks and a five minute walk to all the museums (Gold, Jade, National, Art) . Like any city that you are getting to know , you should ask for the zones to avoid, you find instructions right here if you read " Getting Around" (Guidebook). This place is just three blocks away from central avenue where you can find all the museums, restaurants and nice shops, it is a nice street walk!... There you can see the beautiful National Theater, on calle 2 and avenida 2 and you will find the Mail Building ,which is beautiful, is just two block away , both land marks are a "most see" in San José. You might want to go take a peak at the Hotel Costa Rica, which is the first hotel built in San Jose in the early 1900's, now it has been fully renovated and it was inaugurated last year. If you walk a bit west on second avenue you will find the Cathedral and Central Park, on the right the beautiful Melico Salazar theater. You can also find very nice souvenir shops just a couple of blocks away, or if you are more of an adventurer you should not miss the Central Market. The Jade and gold Museums , are a most if you like museums!!... Both within a 5 minute walk.
  • The apartment has everything you need and more to have a pleasant stay, plus everything was very clean and tidy. On the location, it is central and you can walk to most parks and museums in the city. Marie was a pleasant host, who answered all my doubts and recommended several places to visit and eat in San José. Although the apartment is nice, the appearance of the area where it is located not so much, that would be the only category with 4 stars. From there on out, everything was excellent, yes I would return to stay with Marie.

  • Thanks, Marie! We enjoyed staying at your place. It was clean and well-stocked. The location is great for exploring landmarks on foot, and the Central Market was quite an experience!! The building is modern and very nice. Only stayed one night due to flight delays but would definitely stay here again.

  • This is an absolutely magical place to stay, especially for first time visitors to Costa Rica like us. We were visited by capuchin monkeys, an iguana, red macaws and wake-up calls from howler monkeys! And the blue morpho butterflies were a special treat, as was the pool to offer relief from those hot days! All in all, a wonderful experience!

    Richie2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is such a unique and relaxing experience, you'll never want to leave. We return every few years to enjoy the beautiful scenery and wildlife and we see something new each visit. Thomas & Lili are wonderful, highly responsive hosts and each stay we find more to love about the area. It is a very special place!

    Marie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you are going to Costa Rica for the wildlife sights and sounds there is no better place to stay then at Thomas and Lili's treehouse! This place was an oasis of relaxation and excitement. We seen many species of monkey, iguanas, toucans and many other incredible birds. Playa de Macha was beautiful and our favorite out of the 6 beaches we visited. We snorkled in tide pools and enjoyed this more secluded beach. If you are an active person the hike is not bad. We spent time at the pool daily. It is lovely, well maintained and served as a much needed cooling station. Thomas was an attentive host and assisted us frequently. The treehouse was a trip of a lifetime experience! Pura Vida xoxo

    Jolene2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay if you are looking for a bit of an adventure. Thomas was great at replying to questions right away. We saw some monkey's which was awesome!

    Shavonne2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a fabulous place to get away from it all and relax in paradise. The tree house is right in the middle of a nature lover's paradise. On this stay we saw toucans, scarlet macaws, beautiful butterflies, white-faced capuchin monkeys, a lone howler monkey, and a troop of squirrel monkeys who entertained us for an hour by playing on the roof and the deck. More fun than a barrel of monkeys! We also spotted a sloth hanging out at the little park at the base of the hill. Can't wait to go back!

    Susan2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great experience, definitely do it!

    Tom2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our time in the tree house, it was beautiful and loved waking up to the sounds of the monkeys and Costa Rican wildlife. The hosts were very responsive when we had questions and helped us navigate our way there. Would recommend to those who love nature and want a remote stay. Would recommend doing the hike to the beach nearby it was beautiful.

    Kristi2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • No words can describe this place! Just book and go , if it’s full for your dates just change them ! Truly the Costa Rican experience itself! It’s a tree house, so you will see a couple insects here and there which is part of it. (Our last night in Manuel Antonio we spent at a fancy hotel and honestly I did not see less insects inside the room that what we saw at the tree house. ) What is deeply a great experience is the direct contact you will have with nature, we saw more animals around the house than we could see at the National park ( probably bc was crowded) - This place has it all - is also clean and super charming ! We spent 11 days in Costa Rica between fancy hotels and Airbnb’s visited tortuguero, la fortuna, Monteverde and Manuel Antonio and from all the great experiences while there Thomas and Lili tree house was what me and my husband will always remember as the greatest one about this trip.

CORONA UPDATE We would like to offer stranded tourists in Costa Rica an accomodation. Please check out our updated pricing for long stays! No children under 5 years of age for safety reasons. The Tree House is hand-crafted, one of 3 casitas and 2 treehouses at the Bio Thermales natural resort organically integrated into our 35 acre rainforest. Guests enjoy free 24 hour access to the 12 natural hot and cool springs pools of various temperatures and rainforest trails.
Please message us if we will be your first or last destination in Costa Rica. We highly recommend booking on weekdays for more privacy and tranquility, as we have more day visitors from 9 am to 6 pm to our hot springs on the weekends, especially Sundays. If your reservation includes a Sunday, we highly recommend planning a day outing to the many wonderful nearby activities. We are three hours north of San Jose (airport), 45 minutes east of Fortuna and Volcano Arenal, and the many activities there and nearby. Guests enjoy 24/day access* to our hot springs and trails in our 35 acre rainforest at no extra charge. The pools are cleaned every morning starting at 6 am, but one hot spring will always be available. Many factors may dictate scheduling, including weather. We do not charge for children 17 and under -- but we will not accept reservations for the Tree House for families with children under 5 years old for whom a 20 foot fall from the balcony would be very serious. Our hot springs are ancient “deep Earth” sources that bubble up through the rainforest floor, laden with mineral-rich waters that have been in the Earth for at least 10,000 years. Our waters are rich in bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium, low in sulfur, and slightly acidic -- qualities shared by many of the world's best hot springs. Five of our 9 organic form hot springs pools are located in the rainforest, and 4 hot springs pools as well as a small and a large cool spring swimming pool are located in a meadow, surrounded by rainforest (see below for more information). The small and large cool springs pools both have water slides, and there is a small water slide in one of the shallow and moderate temperature pools for small children. The Tree House is built to strict Costa Rican building codes, but as with all tree houses, there is some movement when the wind blows, and this could be uncomfortable for people very sensitive to motion sickness. You may see our other listings on Airbnb at: Tucano Casita (Toucan Casita) is listed as "Rainforest Casita with Hot Springs": airbnb.com/rooms/30358 Mariposa Casita (Butterfly Casita) is listed as "Rainforest Casita2 with Hot Springs" airbnb.com/rooms/51518 Colibri Casita (Hummingbird Casita) is listed as "Rainforest Casita3 with Hot Springs" airbnb.com/rooms/1896911 Tree House: "Rainforest Tree House with Hot Springs" airbnb.com/rooms/50435 You can check availability of each accommodation by clicking on the "Calendar" tab above the main photo on each listing. Tree House features: (see floor-plan for all details): • Perched high among the rainforest trees, the Tree House has large screened areas for circulation of naturally cooler breezes. It also has fans. • All onsite hot springs and recreation activities included, including 24 hour access to the hot springs and cool spring swimming pools • The Master bedroom with a Queen sized bed with orthopedic mattress and hypoallergenic bedding is in a loft • One the main floor, two twin-sized beds that can double as settees with hypoallergenic bedding • Hand-crafted rustic furniture from naturally harvested trees on the land • Main floor kitchen with refrigerator, micro-wave, coffee maker, basic kitchenware • Bathroom with flash on-demand hot-water heater • Wrap around balcony for relaxing and animal and bird watching • Maid service every 3 days included • Laundry service at extra charge per load • Short walk to rainforest and hot springs pools • No telephone or television • WiFi internet for your laptop -- if reliable 24 hour internet is essential to you, please message us for suggestions. • Hosts Kathy and Bernie live onsite • Languages: English, Spanish, German, limited French One time $10 cleaning fee; thereafter housecleaning services every 3 days are free. Bio Thermales Hot Springs features: • Our hot springs pools are all-natural mineral water just as it flows from the Earth • Rainforest Pools from 90° - 105°F (31° - 40°C) • Grotto Pools in meadow flow from the 112°F/45°C source pool onward into two larger and progressively cooler pools which are handicap-accessible and suitable for small children. • Cool Pool in meadow is 90°F/31°C mineral water flowing from the thermal creek • 2 Swimming pools with continuous flow of natural cold spring water (88 degrees) - one is 1 to 1.5 meters deep, and the larger is 3 meters deep. • Bathhouse in meadow with handicap accessible bathrooms and showers • “Ranchos” – roofed tables with concrete floors and grills for picnics Other Activities on our 35 acre rainforest reserve: • Bird-watching: many types of toucans, oropendulas, parrots, hummingbirds, and the rare green macaw • Rainforest: enjoy it from the casita porch or hot springs pools, take easy walks on paths or more adventurous hikes • Fossils – enjoy our collection or hunt (gently) for your own • Wildlife: two-toed sloths, iguanas, capuchin and mantled howler monkeys, tree frogs, birds, butterflies, and many others. We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna and Volcano Arenal -- such as ziplines, hanging bridges, white water rafting, slow river floats or kayaking through wildlife sanctuaries -- or a 1.5 hour drive to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Volcano Poas. Bio Thermales Hot Springs is open to the public for day use of the hot springs, and most of our day visitors are Costa Ricans, so you may also meet new Tico friends. Bio Thermales is generally not crowded, however, except on major holidays and Sundays. Food/Meals: The Tree House has a kitchen. There are many restaurants and a good supermarket within a 15 minute drive. Traditional Costa Rican meals can be delivered from a local caterer for very reasonable prices (Costa Rican food is tasty but not spicy). Otherwise, for those without cars, we can call a taxi or synchronize a food shopping trip when we go to town for errands. Driving from SJO airport: Please message us before booking if we are your first and/or last destination in Costa Rica. We recommend at least a small 4 wheel drive car. The last 3 kilometers are country roads. Three hours of daylight are needed to safely drive here from the SJO airport before sunset at 5:30 pm. The drive through mountainous cloud forests is splendid in daylight, but prone to fog and rain, especially at night, creating hazardous visibility conditions after dark. Finding our countryside location will also be far easier if you arrive the first time before sunset. If your plane lands in the morning to noon, you can drive here directly from the airport. Otherwise, it is safer to book a room near the airport on your first night, or ask us to book a private driver ($145) and have a rental car delivered at no extra charge. Last night in Costa Rica: Driving directly to the SJO airport on the same day is possible if you book a flight in the afternoon. Please be aware that you must be at the airport 2.5 hours before departure. If you have an early morning departing flight it is basically necessary to stay near the airport on the night before.
We are in the countryside in a non-touristy rural area of family farms, orchards and rainforest, off the beaten tourist track. The last 2 km are unpaved country roads. Guests should expect a natural environment, integrated into the rainforest, with the usual wildlife native to a tropical rainforest (except there are no large jungle cats like jaguars). We are a 45 minute drive from the many activities in Fortuna/Volcano Arenal, including volcano hikes, ziplines, swimming in the pristine waters below the La Fortuna Waterfall, white water rafting and slow "safari float" rafting to see monkeys, sloths and other animals. Closer to us is a slow river raft tour, rainforest hikes or horseback riding, and a visit to the Iguana Bridge with many large iguanas within a 15 minute drive.
  • The treehouse was a beautiful getaway! Great hot springs and hiking right on the property!

    Andrew2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly special. You can see wildlife on your backdoor. The hot springs are fantastic and available to you anytime, which came to be much appreciated. The meals we got were delicious and our hosts were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about everything around us. Would love to visit again

    Michelle2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend wanted to stay in a treehouse in Costa Rica for her birthday so i obviously had to make that happen for her. I noticed alot of tree houses on Airbnb Costa aren't actual tree houses, just houses built on stumps, but then I stumbled upon this one, and it looked real legit. Reception was very accommodating and gave us great directions and took us on a tour of the property when we arrived. We finally got to our tree house, and it was one of the coolest structures that i have ever laid my eyes on! The craftsmanship of the woodworking was unlike anything I've ever seen before (and I live in the Boreal forest of Northern Canada and I get to see some really expensive log homes). The tree house had everything i could ever want and more! Once we got settled in we decided to go check out the hot springs and my mind was blown, there were thermal pools everywhere in a gorgeous jungle settings and we had the whole place to ourselves! Felt like our own little private Narnia. As soon as the sun rises we heard the entire jungle wake up and the howler monkeys doing their thing. In addition to being a forest fire fighter, I'm also a professional photographer (insta@k_luhta) so having that much wildlife on the property was a dream come true! We saw Montezuma Oropendolas, toucans, iguanas, howler monkeys, and many other bird species that I haven't been able to identify yet. If you're into wildlife photography or bird watching, this is the place for you! 100000% would recommend a stay at the treehouse or anywhere on the property for that matter. If i ever make it back to Costa Rica, I will be sure to stop in again but for longer this time.

  • Great place to relax and get out into nature! Overall wonderful stay well worth it!!

    Taylor2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! We stayed here for 5 days of our honeymoon and no regrets. We would love to come back one day. It is in the rainforest for a glamping experience so there are small but harmless bugs. Just bring ziplock bags or Tupperware to keep food in. It was very peaceful and natural. Take a tour with Frank if you have time, he is very fun and helpful!

    Cooper, Alajuela, Costa Rica

Beautiful, private villa with a fabulous ocean view and a secluded, infiniti pool. Very popular villa with both honeymooners and retired people. It is a private subdivision with 30 villas with support from rental managers and other staff. The villa is almost equal distant from both Liberia - LIR and San Jose - SJO airports. I believe it is easier to drive south from Liberia airport on a straight, scenic and paved highway 21.
The 3000 square feet villa is on a very private, 2/3 acre lot with ocean and rain forest views. The beautiful swimming pool is partially shaded by a picturesque "Corteza Amarillo" tree. The villa has "Almond Wood" hardwood floors in the living area including bedrooms. The full kitchen has black granite counter tops. All appliances, pots, silverware, china and coffeemaker are included in the kitchen. The gazebo has both gas Bar-B-Q and 4 burner electric cook-top with ocean views. Master bathroom has 2 large bowl sinks, large tub with no water jets, bidet and large windows with a view of the rain forest. The house a large, flat screen TV, amplifier with whole house, surround sound, speaker system. The house has 10 fans and air conditioning. The large master bedroom has a king bed and the second spacious suite has a full bath with two queen beds. The house is on a hill top with wonderful 120 degree views of Nicoya bay and the hilltop location gives one a unique sense of Privacy with no neighbor to look in. The subdivision is 3 miles from the ferry station but it is advisable to rent an SUV so short day trips to Nicoya, Samarra, Carillo, Tambor, Paqueras ( Tortuga island snorkeling ) can be done. Renters have access to a near by grocery and liquor store. The store also provides DVDs and books free of charge. Concierge service is also included. The "Roma del Mar" development has 2 private beaches and a private pier for fishing. There are numerous beaches close by (Playa Blanca 5 kms away) and a golf course at the Tambor Bay. A one time payment of $100 is required for cleaning the villa both before and after the rental. All day maid for cooking is available through the manager and a massage specialist manicurist/ pedicurist available - reservations through management. The internet access via a router in the villa is free. Location Description: Playa Naranjo, Puntarenas, Costa Rica (next to Cabo Blanco on the internet map site), Central America. Fly to Liberia Airport (Code: LIR). Two hours drive from Liberia airport and 5 minute drive from Puntarenas/Playa Naranjo Ferry.
The neighborhood is private, quite and away from busy tourist spots with plenty of things to do in the area. Our rental manager has a long list of optional tours
  • Stay here and plan to stick around the area, because Raj's villa is so shockingly gorgeous that you'll hardly want to leave. (We ended up canceling a 2-day trip inland to the volcano just because we wanted more time at the villa and in the nearby area.) The views from the villa are jaw dropping and it is absolutely the most gorgeous place I've ever stayed by far. I inadvertently became a birder on this trip, the amount of birds to view from the patio was insane -- parrots, pelicans, frigates, and all kinds of other beautiful tropical birds. You'll see iguanas on the roadside and beaches, and definitely hear the howler monkeys if not see them. The villa was very clean, and between Raj (owner) and Noelia (rental manager), we had all the information we needed within reach of a quick text message or email both before and during the trip. Raj's place is really spacious and open, I thought the pool was also bigger than it looked in the photos. Kitchen well stocked and nice cozy linens on the beds and good quality towels. Air conditioning is only in the bedrooms, so staying in the pool on hot afternoons was ideal to stay cool. Definitely follow Raj's instruction to get groceries on your drive from the airport, and rent a 4x4. The local minimart is well stocked with basics, but if you plan to cook much you'll want to hit up the larger stores on the way. The local restaurant Aroma del Mar is also amazingly good, and the beach is a short walk (down a fairly steep hill) or an even shorter drive away. The tours offered by Roma del Mar are top notch (we took the Tortuga Island tour and loved it). You can also enjoy a massage by Anja on the pool deck and drive about an hour to a nearby waterfall that you'll likely have to yourself (Karen Mogenson Reserve). The bang for you buck on Raj's place is incomparable. Thank you Raj and all the staff of Roma del Mar!

  • Lovely month in Costa Rica. Such a lovely view! It was hard leave to pool area but we enjoyed hikes around Roma Del Mar daily exploring the beaches. Great restaurant on site and very fun and help neighbors and staff.

    Ann2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A great villa with fantastic views!! There is everything you could possible need in the villa. Would definitely recommend.

    Darren2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to experience Costa Rica! Clean, well stocked kitchen and modern amenities. The Infinity pool was very nice especially at the end of day. Raj the host and Noelia the property manager were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We highly recommended this property to anyone who wants more than a hotel stay.

    Wendy2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • You won't find another place as wonderful as this Villa. We were pampered by the hosts. The greatest luxury was swimming in the pool and watching the Pacific in front of you.

    Earl2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • You should stay here. Fantastic space and views, beautifully maintained. Thanks Raj Richard K

    Richard2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Raj was extremely helpful with instructions on getting to the house and even had someone meet us at the ferry to escort us to the home since we arrived at night. We wanted a relaxing home that was more remote and this was the perfect spot! I would recommend arriving during the day and be mindful of the ferry schedule while making your flight arrangements. The home and amenities look exactly like the pictures. We loved sitting by the pool and enjoying the view.

    Brittany2019-11-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wow!!!! Its True what everyone says The View is Beyond anything I could have imagined and then some! The House was so well stocked, Towels after towels, every amenity you need in the kitchen. The Furniture all comfy and stylish. Raj was so attentive and helpful with things to do, and see. We hiked the Karen Mogensen Reserve Waterfall and it was truly amazing. The house is very remote and its literally like you're driving into the JurassicPark movie at the entrance of Roma Del Mar, but my teenage sons had a big time and a a great learning experience. This New Jersey Family got a whole new perspective on driving in Costa Rica. I recommend On Airbnb The 10 Hidden Waterfalls with Antonio. If you're up adventure that's the one you want to do. We also did the Bioluminescence with Vigdis and Tom down in Paquera.Very cool. Villa is also real close to the ferry which is helpful to get you over to other experiences. Aroma del Mar delicious food, but was a little disappointed they are no longer serving pizza, as I'd read rave reviews. But the beachfront and kayaking and tire swing also a nice surprise. Jenny was also very helpful and accommodating with anything we might need. But My Mom is already trying to come back by herself she loved it so much..Truly Spectacular Villa!! Check in and out with Noelia was a breeze. Thank You Raj for being a Phenomenal host and sharing this beautiful home. Pura Vida!!! :)

Our neighborhood is one of the finest in Costa Rica with a mix of ex-patriots and Costa Ricans living on large estates and smaller homes. We are 30 minutes from the San Jose airport and the Museums of San Jose. Downtown Heredia with luxury malls and high-end restaurants is six miles away. Poas, Irazu and Barva volcanoes are an easy day trip away. Village of San Isidro ~ ~ A $2 taxi ride away is the village of San Isidro with banks, a large supermarket with covered parking, restaurants and coffee shops bakeries and a beautiful Sunday morning farmer's market along with one of the most majestic churches in Costa Rica. Coffee ~ ~ A rare treat - coffee harvested and dried in a truly artisanal old-world style. Our coffee fruit is sun dried for 100 days. Not sent to a mill to be strip washed and dried in mechanical dryers and later sent for processing in an automated warehouse. We pay our pickers double to harvest our coffee fruit at the peak of ripeness. The natural drying process triples production costs but leaves the raw beans coated with honey ready for roasting. Restaurants ~ ~ A secret spot. Only a 5-minute ride away is Los Potreros with its city light views and a large variety of fantastic local dishes with generous portions at reasonable prices. Excellent food and good service. Another secret spot only ten minutes away is Sibu Chocolates where you can lunch and sample chocolate truffles made from Caribbean cocoa. They offer a lunch-included tour. Transportation ~ ~ Our neighborhood Uber driver Jose takes you to your destination, wait for you there and then bring you home. Other Uber drivers do not do that. A local taxi to San Isidro is only $2 and arrive in minutes. Buses leave every 15 minutes to Heredia and San Jose, from where you can board direct buses to all parts of Costa Rica. The intentional airport is 30 minutes away. Attractions ~ ~ La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Rain Forest Adventure zip lines are both easily doable day trips as well as Doka Estates Coffee Tour and Poas Volcano National Park and Braulio Carrillo National Park.
Staying with us gives you a chance to feel what it's like to live in the real Costa Rica. Our neighborhood is one of the finest in Costa Rica with a mix of ex-patriots and Costa Ricans living on large estates and smaller homes. The small town of San Isidro is 5 minutes away and has many conveniences such as a new large supermarket. You can walk up the street toward the National Park and if you are lucky you can see white face monkeys. The northeast part of the central valley is the first area to receive the prevailing Caribbean winds purified by miles of Braulio Carrillo National Park cloud forests bordering our neighborhood.
  • We had a great stay! Loved the location - the ranch is beautiful and we loved exploring with this as a home base. Would definitely come back.

  • The place is wonderful you have to know it, with beautiful views, Diego is super friendly

  • We had a fantastic time at Phil’s Airbnb! He was very knowledgeable and shared his insights and opinions thoughtfully. There were so many extras including the fresh roasted coffee and beautiful birds of paradise flowers. We loved it so much we stayed 2 extra days! We will be back!

    Jenn2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views of the mountains and the city from the deck. Phil is a great host and we loved staying in the ranch. We strolled the gardens and the waterfalls in the morning. Very serene and quiet. Very well maintained front garden! Side note: Few roads on that area are bad so better to drive in daylight and google maps messes with the routes too, taking private roads that are closed sometimes

    Kruthi2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Phil's property was beautiful and lush. We enjoyed walking through the gardens. Many beautiful spots to sit and enjoy nature. We felt very safe there. Phil recommended a certain driver to get around who was completely awesome. Driver Jose took us to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and to local souvenir shops. Overall great experience. Phil recommended Restaurante Casa Azul. It was so delicious that we ate there two nights in a row. If ever in the area again, we would stay here.

    Juls2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Phil was an excellent host! Not only is his place conveniently located overlooking San José, it is also a working farm with some of the best coffee you have ever tasted. Ever. Wow! Beautiful manicured hiking trails with coffee trees, a creek, oranges, and all kinds of tropical plants. There is a beautiful hiking trail loop and even a deck up high so you can enjoy the view in every direction. Great recommendations on where to go in the area. Excellent place to stay the night you arrive or the night before you depart or as a home-base if you are visiting the Central Valley. Highly recommended.

Stay in a cozy 1 BR or 2 BR, upscale Costa Rican-style bungalows with a pristine pool at your doorstep. Look out over the trees to the Pacific ocean from your private balcony and listen to the birds and howler monkeys that call the gardens of Casa Tranquila home.
This one-bedroom architect-designed bungalow comes fully equipped for short stays and month-long getaways. It's perfect for honeymooners or families with up to two kids, as well as small groups of friends. The kitchenette has everything you'll need to eat at home if you wish. The bungalow has a comfy bed, air conditioning throughout, a daybed that fits two people in the living space. The bathroom has a huge glassed-in shower with a big window to the gardens, where monkeys pass regularly. Just outside your door is a cool swimming pool and wooden deck for relaxing, as well as plenty of hammocks. Casa Tranquila was designed with sustainability in mind. The property takes advantage of sea breezes for passive cooling, minimizing the need for A/C. The gray water from your bungalow feeds into the trees and other plants that surround the property instead of washing into the ocean.
Casa Tranquila is located on a hill in a quiet, residential neighborhood of Tamarindo – far enough from the busy downtown that you won't be kept awake by the parties but close enough that you're just a 10 minute walk away from the center of town or 14 minutes to the beach.
  • Awesome people and great location! Definitely doesn’t disappoint, we had a great time!

    Rikki2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jose was quick to recommend many fun and interesting thing to do around Tamarindo. The property was great and well kept and the pool was a cherry on top of a great stay. We could hear some construction noise in the mornings but it wasn’t too loud and you were able to tune it out easily, but it was nice to have a little distance from the center of town. If you see the kitty, he is really nice and you should give him a little pet :)

    Sydney2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is an easy walk to shops, restaurants and the beach. Jose is a wonderful host.

    Sharon2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at José’s place for a week. He truly has set up a great place to unwind. The cottage was cute and had everything that we needed. His property is beautiful. His plants and trees and pool make for a very relaxing atmosphere. He is very knowledgeable about Costa Rica and obviously cares very deeply for his country. It was great fun to talk with him. José and his family made us feel very welcome offering suggestions on local things to do. When it was time for us to leave he set up a taxi for us. We didn’t have a car but didn’t mind walking. There is a hill involved but it wasn’t a big deal. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend Jose’s place to others.

    Lilla2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. 10-15 minute walk to a fabulous beach with lots of restaurants- good food. It’s a bit of a hike up a dusty road but that’s the same as many places in Tamarindo unless you can afford $400 night. It comes with great pool and is very secluded, apart from the construction going on around it. That being said, we weren’t around during the day anyway. Jose was very quick to respond to any questions. You should be aware that there is more than one Casa Tranquila in Tamarindo. Our Ecotrans driver got lost for a bit.

    Lauchlin2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I went for our first trip with our 8 month old daughter and had an amazing time. Jose was very accommodating and the pool was fantastic. We rented a golf cart for our stay and it really helped with getting around. We would definitely recommend staying at Jose's!!!

    Wesley2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Joses place is just fantastic. Its a quick walk to town and the beach. The pool is amazing to relax at. Jose himself is a fantastic host, full of tips and advice and clearly has a great deal of intrest in the local community and future of the town. Highly recommend.

    Stuart2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to explore Tamarindo without being in the busy centre. Little private, relaxing escape with great accommodation and pool. Slight hill getting to it but we managed with sling and buggy for evening meals. José was a great host and gave local tips for family friendly places and was on hand for any questions we had. Loved our stay.

    Klick2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding airbnb! We stayed in the top floor of this beautiful home located at the top of the hill...feels like you are living with the birds! The view was amazing and could hear the crash of the waves and smell the ocean! Wish we could have stayed longer!!

  • This place is the perfect place for a peaceful getaway! Also close enough to Jaco if you want to experience something more lively with more of a crowd. I personally enjoyed waking up to the sunrise, and the greetings from birds. I was able to get some writing done before heading out to explore. Everyone in the neighborhood is so friendly and welcoming. Justin and Jessica were so attentive and always responsive, ensuring that we had a comfortable stay. They were beyond helpful, helped us book tours and activities and a driver after I had last minute complications with the car rental. Overall 5 star stay with great host! We had some buggy visitors but that’s expected when you’re in their environment. Lol

Super magical & unique tree house based on sacred geometry located on an active organic farm. It's truly in the trees, not just on stilts. It's composed of 4 rustic open air structures: the Awarenest - a separate 360 view deck 9m (30ft) high, the Bedroom Pod - with hanging bed, desk, northern view of the mountains and half bath with suspended bridge to full Kitchen Pod both at 4.5m (15ft) high and lastly a separate bathroom/shower pod at 3m (12ft). Basically a jungle farm wildlife adventure.
The main initial structure, the bedroom is actually suspended by cables between 5 strong Melina trees. The sacred geometry shape is an Icosahedron, one of the 5 platonic solids. It’s composed of 20 equilateral triangles that join at 12 vertices roughly making a spherical shape. The bedroom has a queen bed with canopy mosquito net, a built in desk, a small sink (with running water) and mirror and small porch. Just outside the bedroom is a half bathroom with flushing toilet. The kitchen, connected to the bedroom by a bridge has a full size sink, half size fridge, toaster oven, 1 burner gas stove, plenty of counter space and built in couch/bench that can sleep a 3rd person, but it's narrow and not very comfortable for sleeping (which is why it's a 2 person listing). The full bathroom in a separate tree, has flushing toilet, sink and shower with 2 heads, one is cold only and one has hot and cold. Plenty of privacy but open air with a view. It has a ladder access. The view deck, called the Awarenest is about 30' up with quite an amazing view. It's accessible by a series of ladders, so not for the faint of heart. It's a great spot for yoga, meditation or just relaxing on top of the world. It's in the tallest, highest tree in the area. I say highest because it's also at the top of a little hill. It's truly one of a kind! There is a new restaurant on site called Wonderland that is a short walk from the treehouse. My property manager will be able to show you how to find it if you're looking for a healthy and delicious food option.
It’s 15 min drive to the Montezuma beach and about 25 min drive to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa Beaches. It’s nicely settled in the hills between them. Also about 15 minutes from Cobano, the largest town in the area for supplies, etc. Those times change based on road conditions. It’s not actually very far, but you wont’ be driving super fast. There’s a wonderful authentic Italian restaurant located close by, in the middle of no where. Their pizza is amazing and cooked in a wood fired home made earth oven, hence the restaurants name, Tierra Y Fuego (earth and fire). They are only open Thursday-Sunday and closed for most of Sept/Oct.
  • One of a kind! This tree house is amazing, it is so delicately designed and decorated and equipped with everything you might need. I felt so comfortable and cozy in it, like I could just stay there and relax without having to ever come down hah. One of my best experiences, I can't wait to come back!

    Jennifer2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Treehouse was amazing, my best night in Costa Rica so far. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is good an there is everything you need, the view is amazing. The bed is even swinging, if you like it. And you have a second treehouse with a shower. It’s a bit outside so if you don’t have a car you have to take a taxi. By food it is a 1 hour walk and it’s pretty steep. I took one from Montezuma and it was about 5000 colones.

    Janine2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great build and well constructed tree house! amazing view in a beautiful area. Good wifi in the middle of the nature ;) but not to far away from the next (cute) beachvillage Montezuma. Really recomendable!

    Fabian2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • A real tree house, with all the comforts. A dream come true. WOW

    Guylaine2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The most unique airbnb experience I’ve ever had. It was amazing to sleep in a true treehouse and hear the rain fall and howler monkeys, look out at the vista, and feel the fresh air. The treehouse was also stylish and keep with amenities like a french press for coffee, wifi, outlets, fridge, salt lamp etc. The airbnb shares the grounds with a yoga deck, permaculture gardens, restaurant, chicken coop and so forth. I called Julito, the site manager, and he showed us around. Taught us about the local fruits and veggies and got to taste them. He was very personable and informative. Overall, an experience I will never forget. Great for couples looking to rekindle.

    Lindsay2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Great! We stayed there for two nights only but loved the magnificent view of the mountains, the sounds of nature. We were able to observe animals and birds very closely! The farm is a land of multiple gems. Very clean and offers all the amenities! The only downside is that it is remote from Montezuma and that the taxi can be expensive if you want to do activities in the city itself. Impossible to walk from the village either. For transport, a little complex but the unique experience is worth it!

    Sabrina2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We spent the New Year's Eve in the tree house (December 31, 2019 to January 2, 2020). It was incredibly great and original. The accommodation is designed for two people. There are three tree houses. One is the kitchen. The kitchen can be reached via the bridge with the second tree house. The second tree house is the bedroom (with a double bed, sink and toilet). In the third tree house there is a shower and a second toilet. Even though you are in a tree house, nothing is missing. (Wi-Fi, electricity ...) You are undisturbed, there is no other accommodation on the premises. In total only for two people.

Our magic Dome is quiet and calm, perfect for those who prefer to avoid the masses and noise. It is separate from the other facilities and has a kitchen, a shower and an outdoor air bath surrounded by our young reforested forest. The view of Puntarenas and the starry sky at night is overwhelming. The dome has a special price since it is in the test phase. In our survey, they told us we could charge the couple $ 150 a night, so take advantage!
The Dome is simply unique. During the day, we recommend relaxing in our hammocks by the pool or simply doing things like hiking, visiting rivers or the canopy. We recommend downloading Google Star Map, then you can navigate through the stars, satellites and constellations. In New Moon, you will be impressed by the starry sky you can see from the bed and the view of Puntarenas as a chain of light and its surroundings. From 6 in the evening until 9 in the morning.
We hope you will not only be our guests but also become our friends, having the same aim: enjoying this beautiful country with the incredible flora and fauna and the very friendly locals or ‘ticos’ as the Costa Rican’s call themselves. Enjoy Costa Rica with all its nature and gentle people and as the ticos say: PURA VIDA!
  • The dome was just as described. It was everything you love about camping combined with everything you like about a hotel. It was clean and easy to find. Uli was a great host and made us feel welcomed. Her dogs were very sweet and took us for a hike to the river!

  • Our stay with Uli was absolutely incredible. During our time in Costa Rica, we stayed at two resorts as well as Uli's Dome Airbnb. My wife and I both agreed that the dome was by far our favorite! Such a unique and beautiful experience. The location is secluded, peaceful, and gorgeous. Uli is so welcoming and had many great tips on activities and places to eat. She even let us take her adorable dogs on a short hike! Highly recommend this stay. We will definitely be back!

The house is on a property in Atenas the BEST CLIMATE IN THE WORLD in top of the mountain . You will see the house surrounded by a big stone wall . We are at 1200m altitude near a biological reserve with high biodiversity. You’ll love my place because of the panoramic view, relaxing place, light, the comfy bed, the coziness, and the kitchen. My place is good for couples, family , solo adventurers, business travelers, big groups, and pets. .
Nestled in the nature at 1200 meters above sea level, and only 30 minutes from the airport, this construction stands out. It is an unconventional house, has character and fits perfectly with the environment. This extraordinary home in the architectural vision of US ex marine , who fell in love with this country, its people and the beauty of these mountains ... created a unique home in breathtaking scenic beauty. It is very exciting to look at the mountains, the volcanoes, the valley and the Pacific Ocean in one place ... 180 degrees of scenic beauty. It looks like a stage, a painted curtain of a movie ... it's unreal, it's like an antidote against the frivolity of the houses around it, its unconventional angles, its intelligent hexagonal design that allow you to fully appreciate the beautiful views from inside the house . Sincerely you will not find views like that only once in the life. It is a place once seen, you will never be forgotten. This incredible home is located at the entrance to the Route of the Heroes of 1856, (Route # 3) in Atenas THE BEST CLIMATE IN THE WORLD where thousands of foreigners from all over the world have adopted Atenas as their new home. Because of its scenic beauty, its prefect climate and perfect location, Why location ... because it allows you to be close to the international airport, near the capital, near the beaches and near many tourist attractions. Upon entering this home you will notice the works of local artisans in the wood. With 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. On the first floor there is the master bedroom with walk in closet, bathroom, living room and the kitchen is melted in open concept and the stairs leading to a mezzanine where the second bedroom with access to the balcony is located. It is a Costa Rican house under construction thought of the environment. This charming property is ideal for hosting groups, families or friends who wish to travel together. Because the property has 2 independent houses. Both houses are equal houses, each with unique views. One of the houses overlooks the Poas volcano, the mountains, the valley (Breathtaking View of Paradise) and the other house has views of the mountains and the Pacific Ocean (Beautiful Ocean View & Spectacular Construction). It is a warm and cozy house, it is well lit, as it has a view from every living area. There is a 2000 square meter courtyard with a river rock fence as a fortress. Places you can visit ... Coffee Tour Toledo, Zoo Ave, Los Chorros de Grecia, Catarata and Minas del Monte del Aguacate, Poas Volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens, Carara National Park, Manuel Antonio National Park, Hermosa Beach, Jaco beach, beach Manta, beach Blanca etc or you can walk in the Municipal Forest of Atenas which is only 2 minutes away from the house where you can find trails for hiking ( where you can see some birds, monkeys etc .. drink fresh water from the spring ) or enjoy nightlife with the locals people a few steps from the house, on Fridays and Saturdays there is karaoke. Why staying in Atenas, Atenas is a very picturesque little town with a very friendly, simple and humble population. Country people with a good heart ... also Atenas according to the world magazine "National Geographic" and UNESCO, "Atenas, the best climate in the world" honor that it shares, with the state of Arizona (United States)
Our neighborhood is very quiet and our neighbors are exceptional. If you want to consume 100% local products, we can tell you where to buy organic coffee, where to buy fresh cheese from grazing cows, fresh grazing eggs and quail eggs, beans, coconut water, oranges, lemons etc ... This is a reserve area. We have a lot of life around day and night, nature is always alive, always changing, always moving ... you can see toucans, parakeets, monkeys, bats , butterfly etc. Enjoy it. Our location is very conveniently located for day trips to the beach and other attractions. You can also visit the coffee plantations that surround us and travel to Manuel Antonio National Park and the Arenal Volcano in about an hour.
  • BEAUTIFUL Airbnb with incredible view. One of my favorite travel experiences. Watched the sun go down over CR with a drink in hand from a perfectly breezy porch.

  • The view is incredible, it is little removed but a good place to rest

    Andres2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very cool spacious place with an amazing view. We booked this place only for one night as it is near the airport in San Jose but not in San Jose and we'd absolutely stay again for longer. The views were amazing and we saw many unique bird species in the back yard. It is easy to locate and had lots of space.

  • The views from this house are truly incredible. The bed upstairs is very comfortable with an awesome view to wake up to. The water does not get all that warm or stay warm in the shower. The post makes it seem as though you are paying to stay in the entire home but really it is 2 homes side by side that I imagine mirror each other, we stayed in the one to the right. The house is easy to locate. There is a supermarket, MaxiPalí, close by which is nice.

  • We highly recommend Ocean Apartments. We had a great time. The place is in a great location, the views are beautiful, the place is nice and clean, and we really enjoyed the pool. Izzy & Nir (& Fiona) showed great hospitality. Check in was easy, and Fiona rushed over early to meet us. She also provided great tips and suggestions for things to do and places to eat in the area. Thank you for having us! Pura VIda! Francesca & Blair

  • Cozy and clean apartment with a view over the ocean. Nice pool and very friendly staff!

    Anna2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • I was really looking forward to this Airbnb in Santa Teresa and my expectations where high. The apartment turned out even more beautiful than in the pictures. The communication with Fiona worked out really well. She expected us at the apartment, showed us around and also completely organized a fishing tour for my dad. She made a real effort to make our stay as nice as possible. The apartment is equipped with everything you need. Either from the bed when waking up in the morning, while having breakfast on the terrace or while relaxing in the shared pool, the ocean view is amazing and so are the sunsets in Santa Teresa. Like the description says, the road to the apartments is really steep, so a bigger car or a quad are recommended. The wifi wasn't working that well but this is just complaining on a high level of comfort. Sadly my dad and I were only staying for two nights - if we ever should come back to Santa Teresa, we would definitely stay in those apartments once again. Muchas gracias!

  • You will love this apartment. It is right up from the beach and has wonderfully shaded courtyards for each apartment. The pool is so great on a hot day and the bikes are key to going into town. Sarah is a little cleaning ninja keeping everything so fresh and clean while you are there. We will definitely return!

  • Such an amazing place to stay. Traveling for two weeks this was our favorite Airbnb! Perfect location, beautiful, private space with parking and kitchen. Gate locked “community”. Very kind and quick responses. Can’t wait to come back!

    Malaya2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lisandro and Alexandra were both very helpful hosts with quick responses, including arranging for an ATV to be delivered to our door. Sara was onsite daily to offer daily cleaning and help as well. The apartments are modern, clean, and private. The location is steps away from paradise. What a perfect find.

Located in Costa Rica’s Southern Pacific Zone, La Luz sits atop a mountain overlooking the stunning Baru River Valley. The property sits on 12 acres in the gated community of Valle de los Caballos- surrounded by sweeping vista views, bamboo lined drives, waterfalls, and a jungle that‘s home to the wildest flora and fauna of the area.
Finished with design conscious, sustainable materials and furniture from local craftsmen, La Luz is your sanctuary for a peaceful and cathartic experience. Through our floor-to-ceiling glass walls you’ll find toucans, several species of butterfly, and maybe a howler monkey or jungle cat. When it’s time to head to bed, you’ll rest easily with our air conditioned rooms, pillowtop mattresses, and Parachute bedding. The casa is outfitted with a full purpose kitchen, mini bar and washer/dryer. The casita is outfitted with a full purpose kitchenette and induction burner, refrigerator. Both spaces boast top of the line cook ware and bar ware.
  • A lovely house with everything you need and more. If you, like me, like things neat, tidy and beautiful this is the stay for you. It also has a nice pool and a nice garden area and a beautiful view. As we visited Costa Rica at its warmest it was a relief to stay at La Luz with its high location. Communication with host and the property manager was great!

    Sofie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very modern house in the middle of the jungle! The view was awesome. See you soon again! Be prepared of insects inside of the house, we had a nightly visit by a big spider in the bedroom :-D

    Hannes2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Is an amazing place to stay. A real jungle feeling with a minimalist look but yet very very comfortable. Loved the pool looking on to mountains and the full featured kitchen. It has a coffee grinder for those coffee lovers.

    Felipe2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful!!! If you are looking to stay in dominical area, you can’t go wrong with La Luz. Its one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. Beautiful Birds, Stars at night from your bed, views in the morning, comfort, peace are just some of the many things we experienced while our stay. Oh and pool is just cherry on top. Absolutely loved it and if we ever visit that area again we know where we are staying, thanks Chandra and Aaron for keep checking on us from time to time.

    Hartej2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The house is as chic as shown. Nothing is missing. Breakfast with toucan, evening mood with cicadas, morning waking from howler monkeys.

    Thomas2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • La Liz is an amazing house! The host and his house manger are amazing and respond quickly!! The views are breath taking and there is so much to do close by.

    Annie2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • La Luz is a beautiful place to stay that is only 15-20 minutes away from the beach. Not only was the house very comfortable, but the host is so sweet and helpful. The only downfalls to La Luz (which are very minor) are: the road to get there is up a mountain so there are plenty of twists and turns (most of it is on a paved road though), the actual house doesn't seal very well so bugs can get in (there weren't many at all though), and the bedroom was the only room with A/C (the other rooms had fans). Regardless, we knew most of these things anyways and it still was AMAZING. Such a beautiful view to wake up and see. REMEMBER to pack sleep masks because it's very bright in the morning.

    Dylan2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Even better than what we expected. We ended our 2 week holiday here and it was the best place we’ve stayed in. Clean, modern, right in the jungle and the view is amazing.

There are not many places left like this , please enjoy it. Feel the breeze end enjoy the amazing view 300 ft. above the pacific ocean. If this unit is booked please look at our other units "Montezuma Heights'(Mariposa, Buho, Geco and Art house). All have their own beauty!! At night you can see perfectly the stars. The cottage is made with antics what gives it his unique warm touch, no tree had to be cut to make it. The property was completely reforested in the last 22 years.
The Colibri cottage was our second project and we thought about a tree-house like. The cabin has a little loft for a double bed and a balcony direct on the cliff surrounded by tree’s, making you feel like an eagle above the ocean. The loft is reachable by a ladder and you should be a bit agile. There is no obstacle in between you and the endless horizon. Further the ocean is only 600 feet (200m)away from you ,so you can sleep being lulled by the waves. Enjoy it ! *The materials used on the construction of all cottage are from native antique wood: floors, doors and windows that we have rescued over the years, in order to avoid cutting more trees and for recycling purposes. Some of those pieces are from 1920. Cheers !
It´s quiet, save and nature oriented area. Also called Montezuma hills. We are on the same cliff as villa paraiso, Montezuma hills and Lunatica lounge. It has one of the best ocean views in the country and still has not over grown. Each property on this residencial area has at least one and a half acres, what makes it really private.
  • This place did not disappoint. The view is amazing and Peter and Santiago were so welcoming. Definitely recommend!

  • The place is simply beautiful. There is calm and the view from the terrace is incredible. We enjoyed our stay in this house perched on a cliff. Thanks Peter.

    Vincent2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of my favorite Airbnb’s ever! The view is amazing, we woke up to a sunrise over the ocean that was visible from our bed every morning. The wood is gorgeous, and the outdoor shower is such a nice touch. For a “rustic” cabin, it’s very clean. It was great being close to town, but high up and away from the heat and noise. I was comfortable at night in February with the fan and windows open. Peter and the groundskeeper Santiago are very hospitable and available. We immediately booked 2 more nights once we arrived, and they made it very easy. We saw a troop of monkeys on our first morning! I would 100% stay here again.

    Mary Carroll2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Colibri cottage! Once you make it through the work ding roads, the home and its views that await are so worth it. Thanks for being such great hosts Peter and Rocio!

  • We were stayed with a 2 yr old. Andrew suggested the Nicoya suite and it worked out well for our needs. It was on the first floor right next to the pool. Mora was very responsive with suggestions and tips. The location was great - could hear the ocean waves and monkeys at night while staring at a sky full of stars. We would recommend this villa.

This one-of-a-kind wooden house is the essence of tropical living. Surrounded by 4 acres of private property, it is a perfect place to decompress when you first arrive in Costa Rica, or just before you go home. 30 minutes to airport.
The Rancho is the guest house on our property where we live full time in Atenas, Costa Rica. It is a tropical-style building constructed of beautiful tropical hardwoods. It has a central living/dining area, a 2nd floor bedroom w/double bed, a small kitchenette with mini-fridge, a microwave oven, a sink carved from one long piece of wood. The bathroom is unique: 20 ft. long, stone walls and floor, wood structure; the walls are black lava rock from Arenal Volcano, the floors smooth flagstone, there is a stone shower stall, and a big wooden bathtub which unfortunately has sprung leaks and will no longer hold water. A toilet, of course; modern plumbing fixtures throughout. It was built out over a little man-made lake, but changing climate patterns have dictated a much smaller water body, only full during the rainy season. The rest has been turned into garden. The property is a birders paradise. We have 4 acres (16,000 sq.m.) with many fruit trees, and are surrounded on three sides by coffee farms. This is the real Costa Rica. And this is the perfect tropical getaway for a weekend, or an interlude in between beaches, tropical forests and other activities. The property is in the neighborhood of Alto Lopez, in Barrio San Jose Sur de Atenas, just 4 km or 10 minutes from Atenas centro. The neighborhood is very safe - everyone knows everyone else, and our property is totally secure. NOT a gated community! We are one hour from the central Pacific beach towns of Jaco and Puntarenas, 2.5 hours from Manuel Antonio National Park, 2 hours from Monte Verde Cloud Forest and 30 minutes from San Jose airport. PLEASE NOTE: The building IS NOT CHILD SAFE. I will not allow any child younger than 12 in the building. There are too many places where a child could literally fall out of the building.
Its real Costa Ricans (Tico's/Tica's.) Friendly and honest, the Ticos's consistently come out No. 1 on the World Happiness Quotient. To be expected from a county who's slogan is "pura vida" - pure life. The neighborhood is very safe, everyone knows everyone else, many extended families. There is a restaurant serving lunch and dinner a five minute walk from our place, and a little convenience store right on our street, 5 minutes away.
  • This is such a special place and only about 45 min from the airport. My husband and I stayed here the last night of our stay and we were blown away by the space. And Al was a wonderful host. This will definitely be a place we return to if we come back to CR!

    Annemarie 2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • An incredible piece of art! This place’s craftsmanship and artistry was amazing and I sat for a while just staring at the beauty of it all. Truly an amazing experience. You must stay here if you’re in Costa Rica or near Atenas!

  • Al and Jean’s place was so perfect after a long travel day. We loved the feeling of being far removed from the busy world. The home and area around it are so beautiful. The space is very unique. Would highly recommend!

  • It was a great experience, the hole establishment is amazingly done peaceful and relaxing

    Alexandre2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Jean and Al’s home is one of the most beautiful and unique homes we’ve ever stayed in. We absolutely loved it. The house feels in touch with the nature around it, we fell asleep listening to the critters outside at night and woke up to the birds. They made us feel right at home and showed us around their property. Would definitely stay here again next time we return to Costa Rica!

    Brad2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Jean and Al's place is truly a unique experience. The open air concept and 4 acre property has you immersed in the beautiful Costa Rican vegetation! My girlfriend and I loved exploring all of the many trees and plants through the property, and Jean gave us a very thorough summary of what to expect beforehand as well as some nice restaurant recommendations! I particularly enjoyed the shower in the morning - so lovely. If you don't mind being exposed to the sounds of nature and an open environment, we highly recommend staying here!

Its a feeling that could change your life for good… The apartments are hand-built using traditional construction methods, ecological techniques and recycled materials., the trees around are hiding them from direct sunlight so you never feel hot inside. The bathroom roof is partly made of glass so you have natural light in there in the daytime. We collect rain water so you can enjoy the purity of natural raindrops while taking a shower. Also there is a equipped private kitchen inside where you can prepare your meal or just a cup of coffee or tee in the morning... We recommend our Lodge to you if * you really want to taste some special Caribbean feeling *you like quiet neighborhood while sleeping * you like having your meals (enjoy your drink) on your natural wooden terrace overlooking our beautiful tropical garden * the first thing you want to hear in the morning is the song of the beautiful Caribbean birds (and not the noise of the milkman's car) * you don't want to check your belongings every minute ( our street is safe and quiet) * you like saving energy, time and money by having all the important information about the area from your host * you like picking a fresh organic banana from our banana tree in front of your porch for breakfast * you like observing animals in their natural surroundings (from your hammock) * you like colors, sounds, flavors, shapes of mother nature We are not an all-inclusive commercial five star hotel, just a friendly young family who'd like to share this fantastic jungle wildlife experience with open minded travelers. We want you to feel comfortable and at ease in our place and offer you the possibility to look behind the scenes of commercial tourism and learn a little more about the region you are visiting.
We are located in a very safe and friendly neighborhood. We are walking distance to the beach, supermarket, restaurants, beach bar, a fruit and veggie stand with cheap and fresh local fruits also selling chilled young coconuts called pipas. Almost all fruits are organic from local farms. Our entrance is from Margarita road, easy accessible by car, bicycle or walking but on the other side we have the jungle and a small river. Casa Lina is located in a marvelous natural habitat which combines beach, mountain and protected natural water ways-as such we ask your patience and understanding with small insects or non offensive animal life which you may occasionally find inside the apartment. They are all part of the food chain, most of them are under protection. We are dedicated to protect our environment so we don't use hard chemicals in our property.

  • My girlfriend and I had an incredible time at Casa Lina! It’s a can’t miss destination on Costa Rica’s east coast, especially for nature-lovers. With Kinga, you get an Airbnb host, a travel agent, and quick customer support office all in one! We never felt led astray by her advice and she was always quick to answer our (many) questions. Thank you Kinga!

  • We enjoyed the jungle sights and sounds , especially the howler monkeys . Slightly more rustic and less isolated than we expected Bike hire is available at the house . Lovely beaches near by and lots of places to eat . We would recommend a car and mosquito net .

    Sandra2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kinga and her husband, though not on site, were always immediately available to answer any question or provide guidance. They were extremely generous with suggestions about best places to eat and shop, had the total inside scoop on best kayaking, tour, and wildlife excursion companies, and were generally extremely gracious and hospitable. The location could not have been more perfect — absolutely in the jungle (we watched gorgeous multi-colored birds and huge iridescent butterflies flying, and huge iguanas frolicking in the tree canopy and in the creek from the serenity of our porch!) and yet it’s only a five-minute drive from a truly great restaurant and probably the best grocery store in the region. If you stay there, your home-away-from-home will be perfectly appointed, dry and clean and airy, beautifully designed and constructed from local wood — I can’t say enough about how delighted we were to be there.

  • Great place to relax at the end of the day and listen to nature

  • Kinga’s place is great, in every way! Communication is helpful, friendly and prompt. Lots of excellent local tips and connections. Location and space is great. Highly recommend Kinga’s place!

  • Only stayed for 3 nights but would have loved to stay more. Could have easily stayed for a couple weeks.

    Matt2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Such a peaceful little getaway in nature. Super easy check in! Not too far of a walk from downtown but a bike is definitely recommended especially after a long day at the beach. Kinga was so quick to respond to any messages and such a sweet host.

    Alyse2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice accommodation in the middle of nature. One should be mobile especially in the evening as an unlit street leads to the property. The view from the terrace of the jungle is fantastic, we could also see some animals.

    Ivo2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at Casa Lina! The view of the jungle on the front porch was so beautiful and relaxing. The place was clean and the kitchen had everything you needed. Kinga was very helpful with booking transportation and tours for us. There are bugs but what else do you expect in the jungle. The bug net over the bed protected us well at night. The wifi worked very good for the entire stay. The only negative would be the shower. The water was warm enough but didn’t have much pressure, which wasn’t a huge deal at all. The sounds of the jungle at night while relaxing on the porch or in the hammock were fantastic, as well as being able to have your morning coffee and fruit on the porch in the morning over looking the beautiful jungle and stream that runs through the property. We would definitely stay here again and recommend this to anyone travelling through this area!

    Kristen2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing little Gem...Stunning views and abundant wildlife....truly a surreal jungle experience! This property was a great value! Reasonably short walk to the beach with nearby reasturants and market. I would highly recommend to others for sure.

The Jungle Hub bungalow sleeps up to 6 persons and it is surrounded by the tropical rainforest right above Montezuma, with ocean view and pool. Breakfast is included and italian dinner is an option. Comfort and wildlife.
The Jungle Hub consists of 2 adjacent bungalows with pool, lounging areas and deck balconies. Breakfast is included.
The area is located right above Montezuma, close to the waterfalls, zip line canopy tour, butterfly garden and the delicious restaurant Clandestina. Not far from town yet out of the heat and the crowd.
  • My wife and I had a fabulous experience in Montezuma, much of it due to our wonderful stay at Carla's lovely house, not to mention Carla herself. She is the epitome of the perfect host: gracious, welcoming, hospitable, friendly, organized and hardworking. Besides tending to our every need and desire, she even went out of her way to cook us a delicious pasta dinner. An added bonus was receiving her daily breakfasts, which were healthy, varied and filling -- a great way to start one's day! Jennie and I were very sad to leave Costa Rica at the end of our vacation, partly due to the fact that we had established such a warm and loving relationship with our host. We would recommend Carla and her Jungalow Hub to anyone who wishes to experience a relaxing and pleasant vacation at a beautiful "home away from home!!!"

    John2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This Bungalow is above Montezuma which was perfect for a nice view of the jungle during the day, and a beautiful view of the stars at night. The place was clean with large windows that provided a lot of natural light. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed waking up to the sunrise and the smell of Carla's breakfast. We were really impressed with our stay and will definitely be back.

  • I came with a long time friend to stay at Jungle Hub, and it was so much better than we could have imagined. Carla was an absolutely wonderful host who was very warm and hospitable. Santa is such a sweet and gentle soul who you will love right away, also. It’s always a pleasure having her around. The bungalows are even better than expected. We each had our own space, and all of the views are amazing. Amazing jungle view out the back. So peaceful and beautiful. The view out to the ocean from the front is better than the pictures. You can enjoy the front view while having a swim in the pool. All of the views and amenities are even better than the pictures. These bungalows were very thoughtfully constructed. The outdoor living space is plentiful and welcoming. We walked down to the pools, and enjoyed the cool water as well. The breakfast was absolutely amazing every morning. Great frest fruit, fresh juice or smoothies, fresh coffee, fresh eggs - and make sure you try at least one of Carla’s amazing dinners! You’re missing out if you don’t! We would recommend Jungle Hub to anyone who’s looking to have the perfect experience staying in Montezuma! Thank you so much, Carla and Santa for making our visit so special, and for being so warm and welcoming! We’ll miss you!😊 Melissa and Erika😊

  • Unique rooms with ocean view or directly in the jungle, coatis and monkeys in the garden. Delicious breakfast, the welcome of Carla perfect. Rooftop for stargazing.

    Marlène2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Super peaceful and lovely. Really dank breakfast made by Carla. The monkeys even joined us one morning! Rooftop deck for yoga, and to top it off, sweetest dog ever Santa

    Courtney2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We were in Carlas JungleHub for 11 days and we would have loved to move in there! Absolute paradise. Jungle at the back, well-tended garden at the front with pool and hammock. Carla was a great host with whom every conversation was pleasant. The breakfast was the top hammer (we almost burst daily because it was so much - and so delicious!). Your hospitality absolutely sweetened our honeymoon. Also the cute Santa and all other visitors who came by every day (monkeys, coatis, toucans, agoutis). Absolute dream experience. Very happy to come back ❤️

    Bianka2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Carla’s home was everything and more! It’s not far from the downtown area or beach. Carla made visiting Costa Rica simple from the tips and recommendations she gave. Her Italian dinner is a must - best Focaccia hands down! :) Carla and her family are extremely nice and hospitable. Their dog Santa adds a nice touch to the place!

    Felisha2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • It was our 3rd time at the Jungle Hub. Carla‘s unique hospitality, the great location up on a hill above Montezuma and those ridiculous views from the pool and sunset terrace amaze us over and over again! We will be back soon!

  • Magnificent! Quiet! Clean! Pleasantly surprised and beyond my expectations. You will not be disappointed to go there! I recommend this place without hesitation!

    Rachel2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately we could only stay for one night in this absolutely beautiful place. Nevertheless it was still one of our favorite stays in Costa Rica. The breakfast was delicious and Claudine always made sure we had everything we needed. The house itself is beautifully integrated in the surrounding nature and the view is amazing! Would definitely recommend staying here :)

    Jakob2020-01-09T00:00:00Z

  • Claudine was a great host, she kept communication open and checked in on us since I wasn’t feeling well. Her breakfast was delicious and came with a beautiful view. The space was great and the pool was wonderful. We enjoyed staying there and would recommend to those traveling in the area.

Our bungalow is nestled on the edge of a working cacao Forest. Chocolate is made right here on the property. The ocean view is stunning and many animals like parrots, toucans, sloths, monkeys and iguanas are seen often. Sunrises and moon rises are spectacular!
Our bungalow is located 50 meters up the ridge from our main guest house. This is accessed via stairs and path. One parking space is available either below at the main house or above the bungalow in an upper area. 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed to get up a few steep parts of our entrance. Property is not wheelchair accessible and therefore not recommended for those with disabilities or small children.
Our community is a very diverse one. We have many different nationalities as well as the local indigenous and Afro Caribbean locals. This makes this area very unique and like no other in Costa Rica. You can visit local tribal areas and listen to Reggae bands at night. Our international cuisine is found in many restaurants and of course local Caribbean seafood. Surfing, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking , zip line canopy, and many other activities are available.
  • Our stay here was wonderful. The view and feeling of being up in nature is a memorable experience. On the walk up to the Airbnb along the property, you can see sloths and howler monkeys. Wake up to the sounds of nature and a beautiful sunrise over the beaches. To address some possible concerns I had going into it based on earlier reviews, and the result after staying there: 1) it being uphill -> we did not rent a car nor did we ever end up usin a 4wd taxi to get up the hill. We walked up the hill twice a day on average. It was indeed a bit of a workout, however I would rate myself as 'average' shape at best and did not regret doing it this way. In fact I used the walks to replace my normal jogging routine and felt refreshed and healthy throughout the trip. 2) safety -> you can find horror stories of people's negative experiences in puerto viejo with petty crime (this of course will be the case with almost any location in any country you research in the internet!). At this particular location I felt completely safe. Although it is advised against online, myself and my girlfriend walked back to the airbnb after dark several times and never ran into any issues. I am not advising you to do that, I am just reporting back. As far as being in the Arirbnb itself, the location up the hill, and the structure of the building (several locking metal doors, a safe inside), all allowed for complete safety. 3) check-in time -> although I arrived after check-in time, the hosts were exceptionally accommodating by picking us up from nearby, and driving us to get some groceries even though it was already nightime. If you make sure to communicate with them, they will go above and beyond to accommodate your travel schedule if possible. 4) getting around -> we found it easy to walk into down, either along the road or the beach path, and then take taxis or tuk tuks to other activities or locations. The hosts also provided contact information for drivers. 5) the sun facing the airbnb -> some earlier reviews lamented the sun blasted in the floor to ceiling glass and made it too hot in the morning. I did not find this to be the case, it was very gradual and felt cool enough for a few hours in the morning (until maybe 8 am or so). We would usually be out and about by the time it warmed up. However, if this is a concern for you, the hosts provide a screen that you can position to block the sun and allow you to better sleep in. 6) hot water -> some earlier reviews suggested there was possibly a lack of warm water. This was not the case as the shower heater works fine and provides hot water. Perhaps this is because there is a newer heating system than the earlier reviews, or perhaps earlier guests were not using it correctly. Either way I can confirm it works (although you will find yourself choosing a cold shower in the heat of Costa Rica!) Overall, there are many nice places you can stay in Puerto Viejo. But I think this one best combines adventure, nature, comfort, scenery, and attentive hosts. When we chose to stay here, the determining factor was that we were going to a new place, a new country, way different than our home, and we wanted to opt for the most unique and memorable living quarters we could find. This is certainly provides those qualities, in the best of ways.

  • Book it. This place is phenomenal. Great amenities and wonderful hosts. The view is absolutely amazing. Surreal. You are among the Toucans, howler monkeys, orro pendulos...in the forest with a view of the Caribbean that is second to none. It is possible to stay in the heart of the humid tropics and be absolutely comfortable. Jeff was very helpful in helping us find dear friends from our time living and working in Costa Rica 28 years ago! A trip that will be remembered the rest of our lives.

    Rick2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Most beautiful view ever. Located just away from the noise but you can still hear the surf. You can walk down the hill to the beach in less than 10 minutes, some will find it a challenge on the return trip. Jess offered bikes and drives to help us out, otherwise the taxis are inexpensive or you can rent scooters. Jeff went above and beyond to accommodate us in every way. Great value

    Patricia2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you are a nature lover, enjoy enjoying the best that life has to offer, you've come to the right place. A most pleasant view, in the jungle, exceptional tranquility, a modest but very cozy home. The owners are very kind, helpful and warm.

    Bernard2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place to stay right in the heart of the woods of south east Costa Rica. Sitting on the one can see numerous birds and other animals. The property is at the top of a steep slope - walkable but a 4x4 car is required. Be aware that it can be slightly noisy at night with the wind whistling through the insect screens but this is the price for staying high up at the top of the hill in the trees. Also there are no curtains but as the property is not overlooked it isn't a problem. This is a house you stay at to get close to nature - not to escape from it!

    David2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • What an experience in the jungle but very close to the beach!! Jeff was the best host ive had so far with airbnb. Very friendly and accommodating. The chocolate tour is a must! And the VIEW, there isnt a better view than here Highly recommend

  • Staying with Jeff is an amazing experience. The bungalow is cute, comfortable, and fun. The view is second to none. Watching the sun rise off the deck is something you want to do every morning. And Jeff is an amazing host and he made our stay better.

Kubla Khan - 'a vision in a dream' is a poem by Samuel Coleridge. It describes a magical secret garden, surrounded by high walls and towers, a river running through it down to the sea, beautiful gardens with blossoming trees, ancient forests and rolling hills... Enjoy the privacy and tranquility of the property and the river, or take a stroll up the hill to the village to buy cheese, freshly baked bread, organic chocolate, Italian coffee & gelato and visit the 'mariposario' butterfly sanctuary..
Private, gated, spacious, modern, two storey open planned house overlooking 140 meters of the Chirripo River with breathtaking views of Mountain Peaks, Virgin Rainforest and the San Isidro Valley. Our neighbourhood is a mixed Tico/Gringo community that gets on very well together. The locals are extremely friendly and will always say hello. There is a small grocery store that sells limited fruits and vegetables and dried goods just a 10 minute walk up the road. On the way to the store, you will pass the cheese farm, where you can buy fresh swiss style cheese, fresh milk and yoghurt and local organic coffee. You will also pass the Xamaritan chocolate factory, where you can buy coffee, cakes and hand made chocolates, as well as partake in a chocolate workshop. You can also make a call for a freerange farm eggs and chicken delivery or take a longer stroll or short drive up to the trout farm, where you can fish for your own trout and have them cooked their for you or bring them home for the grill!
  • We had an awesome experience staying at Angus’s place. We brought our 3 teenage kids and had a great time connecting with nature and having a more cultural experience in Costa Rica. The home was one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen. We enjoyed the river, family time at the house, the fresh fruits and vegetables in the garden, and all the recommendations in the area/village. We would definitely recommend this home and return. The pictures don’t do the home justice you will not be disappointed.

    Keri2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a little oasis all on its own. We spent quite a bit of time just relaxing at the house or at the river. It is so peaceful you wouldn’t believe it! We loved our stay here and Angus is a super host. He went above and beyond to make our stay great. What all of the reviews say are true. What a gem.

    Valerie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Kubla Khan is an oasis of tranquility, surrounded by nature, close to Chiripo. Angus is a great host. A must for anyone who loves nature. A wonderful stay with a unique view, a large covered terrace and every comfort. This was our second time we stayed here, and certainly not the last. 10/10 recommended.

    Bob2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical. The feeling of waking up in the morning to this view, making some coffee using the chorreador and sitting to take in this view is like nothing else. Highly recommend going for a nude dip in the river and checking out the butterfly dome up the street. Hope to return again one day.

    Taylor2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in Kubla Khan for almost a month. The experience is unforgettable. A beautiful location in the middle of the cloud forest with a unique view. The Chiripo river flows through the garden and is easily accessible via a nice path. From the spacious covered terrace you can enjoy the "Jungle TV". Fruit and vegetables from the large private garden are in stock. Angus is a great host, always available and made our stay even better than expected. Recommended 10/10.

    Bob2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Great house. Amazing grounds. The sounds and sight of the river below are just amazing. You are truly immersed in the rainforest. Gives you a certain peacefulness rarely found elsewhere.

Torre Alta Lodge are cabins located atop a mountain surrounded by jungles. We offer magnificent, unparalleled views of the Turrialba a volcano, which is located directly across the valley from the cabins. We are focused on nature and sustainability.
Our cabins were created to offer our guests the ability to disconnect and completely relax. However, we completely understand that in our digital era it is sometimes necessary to stay in touch with the rest of the world and we therefore offer free high speed wifi in all of our cabins. We have built the cabins with our harvested lumber and are keeping our impact on our environment to a minimum. We recycle, compost and use rain water for all our needs. Each cabin comes equipped with bottled drinking water, a small fridge and coffee maker. Each cabin also has a front porch with breathtaking views of the Turrialba valley and the majestic Turrialba and Irazu volcanos. As the volcano is currently active, you can witness smoke plumes floating from the top of the volcano. We offer horseback rides with our guide. He has developed various routes in the area, all levels of experience. Our most popular ride is the one that takes you into birdwatching areas, sitting on the horse and not having to worry about walking gives you a great opportunity to see so much more. Drink from our natural spring and see how we are a major part of the water shed that supplies the town below us. We offer meals made mostly with organic vegetables and fruits from a local small farmers coop. We can help schedule white water rafting on the pristine Pacuare River. We encourage you to come with enough time to enjoy all we offer. We look forward to having you as a guest.
We are quite isolated and adequate planning regarding transportation is required. Our guests can choose to rent a car, but a 4x4 is very necessary as the roads are quite rough. In fact, for those guests that are planning on making it up to the cabins in their rented vehicle, we strongly suggest that only drivers experienced in rough terrain attempt this. We also will gladly pick you up from the local town, San Rafael, and shuttle you up and down the mountain whenever needed. We highly recommend a GPS which can be rented at the car rental office.
  • Annette and Harry were lovely hosts and took great care of us. We only stayed there for one night, but had a wonderful time. They even booked us a white water rafting tour which was absolutely amazing. Highly recommendable!

    Anna2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for the wunderfull Time :-)

    Stefan2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Annette’s property is absolutely breathtaking. The views from the top are not to be missed! We only stayed one night and found it to be the perfect way to unwind at the bed of our trip. We drove ourselves to the property and I will say that you definitely need a 4x4. You are climbing over rocks and steep muddy hills so that is the only way to access the property. The drive is well worth the views. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast on her property, which were great. We had the opportunity to see a sloth and did the horseback riding tour of the area. It was overall a wonderful stay and we hope to be back one day!

    Kelly2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you stay at Annette's place make sure to make it the last stop of your trip because it can't get any better. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the nature. Annette and Harry are the perfect hosts.

    Sarah2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely worth a visit! We loved our stay with the owners. The accommodation was perfect: location and the cabins were amazing as well as the meals Annette and Harry prepared for us.

    Jakob2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning views with amazing hospitality and a fantastic adventure

    Samuel2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Annette and Harry are the most warm and beautiful people. Annette gave us the necessary guidance to safely arrive at their gorgeous, serene property. We had driven all day, and arrived at almost dark. It was a picturesque evening. The city lights magically twinkled through the drifting clouds as gentle rain fell. Occasionally the volcanoes showed themselves. I wouldn't call us the romantic type, but even we sat together holding hands, warm, under blankets watching the night pass. Annette and Harry kindly prepared a perfect vegan breakfast spread for us. We were overwhelmed by the sweet sentiment. It was so delicious! Coffee, pineapple, papaya, plantains, overnight oats, toast, jam, bananas. Basically, vegan heaven. Harry, gave us all kinds of tips for our day of travel to Cahuita. We loved every moment! We can't wait to return for a longer visit.

  • Annette’s property is a hidden gem. It’s so quiet and peaceful in the cabins, it’s easy to forget how well located you are. The cabins are rustic, charming, and very clean. We enjoyed the meals and chatting with other guests as well as Harry and Annette, though one is still given plenty of space while visiting. The property is really worth spending some time to enjoy for those who like nature and peace. The ants did find my makeup bag, but they did in three out of four of our stays - so keep in mind you are in the tropics and that nature will find you. Once I hung it up out of reach, they vacated and we all lived happily ever after. I would highly recommend this property to anyone and will return.

  • Jason's place was even more beautiful than the pictures. It is the perfect little oasis a few minutes out of town. I would recommend getting there during the day as the road is not paved the entire way, but it is worth it. One of my favorite AirBnbs so far!

    Ashley2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jason's place was incredible! He has thought of every detail and the outside area is just unbelievable. I could not believe we had that much to ourselves. His family also took u son the sloth tour which was amazing. This place is everything you need and more, close to restaurants, volcano, hot springs etc. We hope to return one day!

    Jacqueline2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Hummingbird Villa is an incredibly special spot for a La Fortuna vacation. We loved the pool and hot tub. It was a perfect spot to return to after a day of hiking. The back yard is truly magical. So much thought and care has gone into it. I highly recommend Hummingbird Villa!

    Diana2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed together with our 2 kids (4&6years) in the Hummingbird Villa for 4 nights and we enjoyed our stay each second. Honestly we are still not finding the right words for this fantastic villa. During our last breakfast on the viewing- Terrace our little son said: „This is the most beautiful place on earth“. Young kids don‘t lie and he is absolutely right. It feels like you have your own private resort. Pool, Poolbar, BBQ, Jacuzzi, Viewing-Terrace with a great new roof, Tropical Garden, Dschungel-Shower,... Also checkin & contact to Jason was very uncomplicated. Beside the villa we definitely recommend to visit the nearby Slot‘s Territory. We had an amazing guided tour on a trail through the rainforest. We saw many slots, birds, bats, a snake and other animals. Thanks & Pura Vida

    Thomas2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • A MAGICAL PLACE! Hummingbird villa exceeded our highest expectations! It is an oasis of tranquility and peace! We loved it so much there we opted to just stay and enjoy the property, pool jacuzzi, view of the volcano and gardens rather than go out sightseeing! Jason is an outstanding host who truly strives to bring the best possible experience to each and every guest! This was one of the highlights of our entire trip and we felt so blessed to have been able to stay there and experience its magic. Thank you Jason! Pura Vida!

    Faith2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We are so glad we chose Hummingbird Villa for our stay in LaFortuna! We were there Feb. 22-25, 2020. Our host Jason was there to greet us and was responsive to our needs throughout our stay. He also had great recommendations for local tours that turned out perfectly. On one of our excursions, we got to observe a mother sloth that had just given birth to a baby. Priceless! Jason has created a paradise on the property, which is very private, yet only minutes from LaFortuna by car. The pool is surrounded by lush vegetation, making it a great place to observe the many birds in the area. There's a swim-up bar equipped with a fridge and blender, lots of comfortable lounge chairs, and an amazing elavated lounge area perfect for enjoying the fantastic view of Arenal Volcano while enjoying morning coffee! If you are considering Hummingbird Villa for a vacation stay, look no further! You will not be disappointed! Your only trouble will be saying goodbye when it's time to leave.

    Tom2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Jason’s villa was accurate to the photos and description. The outdoor space was absolutely stunning and made it hard for me to leave to explore. He really has tried to think of everything to make his guests happy in this space. Was definitely our own piece of paradise for three days. Jason was super helpful with food deliveries which was very appreciated after a long day of travel with young kids. Would totally stay again.

    Penny2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jason’s villa is absolutely superb and is without doubt the best Airbnb we’ve stayed in. Built and designed by himself it perfectly shows his attention to detail. The pool is surrounded by various seating areas, a pool bar and a BBQ. One of the seating areas is a viewing deck giving beautiful views of the property, it’s surroundings and the volcano in the distance. La Fortuna was our 3rd stop in Costa Rica and we had struggled to see wildlife yet we saw a sloth on the road right outside the villa and hummingbirds, toucans lizards and toads inside the gardens. Jason himself was very helpful and booked two tours for us. I’d really like to think I could stay at Hummingbird Villa again one day, we had a fantastic time there! We love the country and the people are the nicest and kindest in the world!

Cabina Blanca - tucked away at the top of a gated community with lovely views of the Pacific ocean, the beach a short walk and the towns of Tamarindo and Flamingo only 25 min. away. Roomy, queen bed, private patio.
This space is a completely self contained guest house, about 15 feet away from the main house. With an abundance of natural light, this unique oasis is cozy and inviting with high ceilings. Although not air conditioned, the cabina enjoys an elevated position on the site and is orientated to take advantage of breezes. In the room, there are ceiling and pedestal fans.
We feel very safe in our gated community, tucked away from the "hustle and bustle" of some of the nearby towns, but still close enough to enjoy all the area has to offer. This relaxing atmosphere is great for bird watching and animal visitors, walks or just enjoying the pool. We are central to enjoy all the coast has to offer with 19+ beaches within less than one hour drive. The closest beach, Playa Conchal, is an easy 10-12 minute walk away or even shorter drive. It has gentle waves making it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Playa Minas and Bahia de Los Piratos are 2 other beautiful beaches a 5 minute drive away. Matapolo is the closest town to us. It is a 5 minute drive away and has a couple of restaurants and grocery stores. Tamarindo is 25 mins south of us and Flamingo is 25 mins north. Both are an easy drive for taking in the restaurants, shops and services.
  • Great place with a great view and so peaceful. We needed a good nights sleep and this home fit the bill! We loved the quiet peacefulness and the hammock. Great location close to some amazing beaches and hikes!

    Ryan2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully located apartment (a short walk from the lovely Playa Conchal) with so many nice touches: an upstairs terrace with a hammock looking out to the ocean, access to the hosts' swimming pool, two strong fans that make the lack of AC not an issue, and a friendly iguana in the drain pipe outside who enjoys watermelon. Kim and Tim also make excellent ice cream, and have great recommendations for things to do in the area.

    Katy2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We felt very comfortable in the accommodation and area. The small room looks large and very friendly due to the many white and the beautiful lighting, the roof terrace above with a huge hammock is a hit!

    Christiane2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed our stay and the views from the rooftop deck. Lots of amazing birds to see and hear.

    Todd2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kim and Tim are extremely friendly people. They went out of their way to give us an introduction telling us everything we could ever need to know about our stay. They even made a binder with great recommendations of what to do, where to eat, etc. You won’t need the hot water or AC. I was surprised by the fact that only 2 fans did the trick and I wasn’t hot overnight despite the 95 degree weather during the day. The place itself was perfect, only one little thing went wrong, I did end up getting stung by a scorpion around 2:30am in the middle of the night (which are not super dangerous in Costa Rica). My boyfriend found it in the sheets and it ran out of the cabina as if it knew where it entered. Do I regret my stay here cause of that? No. Tim even told me that he’s been stung before and it’s not a big deal. My boyfriend and I could have done a better job at keeping bugs out. For example, we didn’t close the window all the way when we went to sleep. My suggestion is to spray the bug spray under the door way or put a towel down to ensure nothing gets in. I don’t want to scare people with this post, I still highly recommend this place, I mean it really could have happened anywhere, Costa Rica is really hot and it’s nearly impossible to keep bugs out (my boyfriend and I stayed in a 4 star hotel near the Arenal volcano that also had bugs and whatnot). I just wanted to mention it for people to take caution so it doesn’t happen to them. Overall worth it to stay here than pay $400 a night at a hotel on the beach so no regrets.

    Marissa2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The cabina was very cool! We enjoyed hanging out on the patio on the roof. It is a little rustic but that's part of what we enjoyed and the description in the listing is accurate. It's a great location for getting to the beaches quickly and Conchal is just an easy walk away! Kim and Tim are both extremely nice and they gave great recommendations! This is great place to stay!

    Joanna2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great stay at their place although we did not use it too much as we were out on the beaches most of the day. That being said, the place is super close to Playa Conchal and very easy drive to surrounding beaches. Bugs were not much of an issue as we kept the place clean. The fan does a good job at keeping you cool so sleep was not much of an issue.

    Endri2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cabina is a great little space close to a pretty beach. I was only there one night, but wish I had booked more time. I enjoyed the space above the unit best of all. Spacious hammock with amazing views. They have thought of everything you need for a sweet beach pad. Lots of hooks to hang things, a clothes line up top, cute seating areas, fridge, etc. Wake up early to the howler monkeys and interesting birds and sunset by the pool! Loved the neighboring restaurant with the woodburning oven. Can't wait to go back!

  • This place is AMAZING... when we were originally looking for a rental in Costa Rica we wanted a tree house or something where we could experience nature, never in a million years would I have imagined I’d get that experience in this ultra modern spaceship like home... but boy was I wrong “a glass tree house” with spectacular views, a friendly staff and a beautiful horse which greeted us when we arrived home each day! We would love to come back next time we are in Town

Experience Costa Rica in this zen-like modern home surrounded by 40-acres of lush tropical forest, near one of the most beautiful palm-lined beaches in Costa Rica! This unique property is centrally located 2 hours from SJO, Juan Santa Maria Int'l Airport, just off the Costanera, close to markets, restaurants, and national parks. Please note that this is 1 of 3 (almost identical) homes available. If this home is booked, please check availability at Ventanas II or III which were recently completed.
This modern home appeals to nature lovers as well as those who appreciate architecture and design. Although the home is built with exposed concrete and has a minimalist feel, it is surrounded by natural landscaping and has magnificent views of the surrounding area. The home has an open floor-plan consisting of the living room, dining room and kitchen upstairs, which opens to a large private deck. Downstairs is the laundry and guest bathroom, which leads to the outdoor shower and garden area connecting the three bedrooms. Please note that the deck off the living room has no railings so if you're coming with small children you'll definitely have to keep an eye on them when sliding glass doors are open and/or when out on the deck.
Playa Bejuco is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica! It is perfect for surfing, horseback riding, or simply enjoying one of the most awe-inspiring sunsets you've ever seen. There are some great restaurants within a mile from the property and many others in the towns of Jaco, Quepos, and Manuel Antonio. We are always happy to recommend our favorites! Please note that, although the property is centrally located, we highly suggest renting a car. The beaches and restaurants are close but not walking distance.
  • Excellent choice for a valuable and enjoyable stay in Costa Rica. The place is exactly as described. The host is just perfect. Responds quickly, helps us with excursion booking, very helpful and nice! Went with two teenagers that enjoyed the pool with a majestic view. Very peaceful and safe place. I highly recommend it and will surely return!! If you can take a surf lesson with Bruno, don’t hesitate. He’s cheerful, patient and a really good teacher!

    Isabelle2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great condo! Beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Rosie and Bruno are the best; great communication and so nice! Bruno gives great surf lessons! If he can get a 59 year old up on a board, he can get anyone to surf successfully! Area is lovely and lots to do within an hour drive or less. Saw scarlet macaws in the area and the resident chickens are a hoot! Care taker on property is also very nice; gave us coconuts to drink and they were delicious! Can’t wait to visit again. Pura Vida!

    Laurie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Besides the fact that this house is stunning, Rosie and Bruno's hospitality was unsurpassed. Our trip would not have been as special as it was without them. I would recommend this space to everyone!

  • Great place to relax. Amazing hospitality from Rosie ! Strongly recommend it to anybody

    Justin2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing experience! The place is tucked away in a beautiful setting. Rosie was extremely helpful organizing all of our adventures and answering any questions we had. We would definite come back!

    Tina2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, conceptual house. Nice layout, good kitchen, very nice bath en-suite to the master bedroom, good washer and dryer. Small swimming pool, a little too cold for my taste, but certainly refreshing. Nearby beach is stunning, one of the best in Costa Rica. Possibility to watch wildlife in the grounds. The house is very close to the street, separated by trees, so there is some noise from the street, but it did not disturb my sleep at night. I recommend this place and would also stay there again.

    Claudia2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The property is sooooo cute, my favorite part was definitely the outdoor shower right in-front of the bedroom, house was fully equipped with all the things you need for a comfortable stay I loved staying here but just make sure you have a flashlight if you plan to go outside in the night, super minimal lighting around the property and just needs stronger WiFi connection because you'll have no service and no WiFi downstairs in the bedrooms but overall amazing place definitely recommend staying here and Rosie is actually super nice any questions, concerns, assistance I needed or had she replied quickly and helped me out

    Reanna2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Rosie and Bruno’s place was perfect for our family of 4 adults. The very stylish and comfortable house is situated in a beautiful natural setting, 5 min drive from the the beach. We loved the location, very calm and not touristy. On the beach you can find immense stretches without anybody else. But there are also great restaurants right on the beach where you can eat fresh and yummy fish, ceviche and more ! Rosie was such a responsive and gracious host. She responds immediately when you have a question, gives you great advice and even helps you organize excursions. Highly recommend.

This beautiful countryside villa, is located in a privilege location with panoramic views to Cartago Valley. We have a very big property about 2 hectares at your complete disposal, with pool, nice deck to overview the valley, inside chimney, bbq in the terrace and much more that is seating for you. The place has just been renew with new furnishings, and we have work hard to make it better so you can come and have a wonderful moments here.
Beautiful countryside house, with 3 bedrooms each with its own private bathroom and full size bed (in one there is a king size bed), very modern, and spacious. additionally it has two sofa beds in the living room. The hot water for shower is only available in the two secondary bathrooms not in the main one, just to keep in mind. The house has an amazing view to the Volcano, and the surroundings are just perfect for nature lovers. the property has it own pool. Around the property there is a Fruteria about 2 km ( this is a place to buy fresh vegetables and fruits from the area), also there is a big supermarket where you can find everything about 15 minutes away. There is a national park just 2 hours away, it is vary famous and its call TAPANTI. The house can is recommended to be access by a 4x4 car, because in sometimes of year it gets very rainy, and although we try to keep a good maintenance on the road, its better with this type of vehicle, also if needed we can arrange transportation, such as pick up and drop off from and to the property if you wish. The property is simple an amazing place to place, it has its own BBQ, in case you want to have a grill during sunset, and it is located on the top a hill, so the views to the valley are just breathtaking. sometimes it can get foggy, but i believe its part of the experience, its totally peaceful and there is also the possibility to arrange a guided walked to the property surroundings.
  • The property is large and quiet, the house is super equipped. 5 stars

    Kenneth2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Unbelievable property. Well cared for, spacious, and ready for way more than I threw at it (never got around to using the grill, but I did build a fire and enjoy the pool). The views are incredible, both when the sun is shining and when the clouds are rolling right past the windows. For families, couples, or even just a lone traveler like me, I highly recommend it.

    Vincent2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is breathtaking! Super clean and cozy. Great taste in decor and the view is out of this world. I went there with a few of my friends just to have a relaxing weekend and it was the perfect getaway. Is super easy to get to and overall had a pleasant experience.

    Tania2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The house is huge, clean, stylish, with amazing views of the valley. The master bed was super comfy and the tv was easy to use with Roku. We enjoyed cooking a few meals at home and driving into the city to explore too. Wish we had more time here to enjoy wine and swimming!

    Maggie2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We live in San José and loved the chance to get out of the city and RELAX in this beautiful home. We made a fire both nights which was a special treat for us. Everything was cozy, clean, and very comfortable. Check-in was super easy. The driveway is quite steep and bumpy, but we don't have 4-wheel drive and we made it with no problems. The bed was super comfy with heated mattress option. The internet worked great and we had no issues. Don Carlos spent a few hours cleaning the pool for us so my daughter could play in the pool even though it was freezing - we were thankful for him for doing that! Loved this place and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a quiet and relaxing retreat.

  • i travelled alone and safety was the main concern for me. this hotel felt safe and was in a great location. only a 5-10 walk from the beach. the pool at night had lights so the atmosphere was really nice during the day and at night! check in was a breeze and the staff was friendly. the only thing i didn’t like was the water pressure - it was very low and the lights in the room were dim. other than that, i loved the overall look and it was a comfortable stay!

  • Great spot with beautiful view of the ocean. Less then a mile away from the beach and not that far from local attractions. Enjoyed hanging out on the hammock and listening to the ocean. I would highly recommend this place. Thanks again for having us .

  • My stay at Justin & Jessica’s place was awesome! Jessica was prompt to answer any questions I had throughout the trip within a matter of minutes. The view was spectacular. Waking up and opening the window or door to see trees with an ocean backdrop while brewing my morning coffee was one of the best parts of my trip. The location is only a 3-5 minutes walk, with a slight incline, to the beach and a little under 10 minutes to the surf shop, grocery store, and restaurants. The town is small so if you want shopping and night life, Jaco is only a 20 minute drive up the coast. It’s a nice scenic drive too. No A/C can be uncomfortable at times but the shower water runs cold and there is plenty of circulation in the home so I never had a problem cooling off. The only issues I had with my stay, which aren’t under the control of the hosts but are worth noting, we’re the neighbors. To the left of the unit, there is a construction crew within 50 feet either remodeling or building a house. They start early around 7am so that was typically my alarm to wake up and it went until around 4 daily. Then things quieted down to only the sounds of nature. The neighbor to the right, down in the valley, was burning something for a few hours during 2 of the days I was there. The smoke reached up to this unit pretty easily but who knows if this is a common thing. Might be a rare occurrence. These things were unexpected but didn’t bother me so I still rate this 5 stars for sure. PS. Not the best option for arachnophobes.

  • We loved our stay here. It fit 6 people comfortably and is in an absolutely priceless location. My sister was on crutches and Judit helped us book ATVs so that we could get around easier. Any question or change we had to make Judit was on top of it. Thank you for an incredible time in Santa Teresa ❤️

  • Perfect location, private but accessible to everything you need. It really is a 2 min walk to the best beaches and food. We stayed 4 days and wish it was longer. The daily cleaning service was a treat. The upper deck and outdoor patio area with pool was a great place to sit and relax when not exploring and to catch all the monkeys sounds . The beds and linens were hotel quality if not better. Always felt very safe with the locked gate. The host is the sweetest, so responsive and is available to help book any excursions. Not a single negative comment about this place, will be back!

  • This is a great place. We spent two weeks with my wife and daughters and had a great time. We really enjoyed the house. Everything worked as we expected. The house has great spaces, the pool is fantastic after a day on the beach, everything was clean...People were very kind and responded quickly to our questions or concerns. The location is great: half a block from the main road (with restaurants, shops, etc) and a 5 minute walk to the beach. But at the same time the place is very quiet. We are already planning to come back!

  • The house is as described in the photos, very comfortable and well located, near the beach. The level of cleanliness is impeccable. Very kind attention of Judit!

  • This place is the best I’ve every stayed by air bnb. Where to start: the stylish interior, Crisp sheets, good showers and well equipped kitchen. The lovely little details made it even better: beach towels, fresh fruit and laundry Service. Thanks to the owners/host/cleaning lady who made our time in Santa Teresa unforgettable.

Cozy home in mountains of Cartago. Great western view to valley and impressive sunsets. Hike in happy and safe rural landscapes. Family oriented with private vast gardens.
Charming Llano Grande is a place in a relax setting, with ample views that invitate for rest, meditation and connection with nature.
Charming Llano Grande is 2 kms away from downtown Llano Grande, a rural community on the slopes of the Irazú volcano, well known for being home to a hard working agricultural community, that crops flowers, vegetables, strawberries. Also, a place where catholic traditions are very much alive, including local processions of saints and virgins. As well, where oxcart parades are common and heavily praised.
  • We spent night in Felipe's house. It's clean, well furnished, and the view is amazing! We recommend !

    Cesar2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Felipe's place was absolutely wonderful, and we regretted not being able to stay for more than just one night. The house is stylish, both inside and out, and also very spacious! The view the main room provided was phenomenal, and we really enjoyed watching the twinkling lights at night. The bed was incredibly comfy too, and I was so in love with the blanket he provided I wanted to take it home with me. Felipe's communication was excellent as well, and we found him to be a very kind person. I would stay here again!
