Places to stay in Cleggan
This beautifully situated Coastguard House overlooks the sea and mountains from every viewpoint. The little fishing village of Cleggan is just a 5 minute walk away, with its four pubs, restaurant, local shop and famous pier with trips to the idyllic island of Inishbofin.
This is a unique property as it was once a working Coastguard Station built in 1860. There are eight house which vary from people living there full time to holiday homes. A 10 minute walk past horses, donkeys and cows will take you to Selerna, one of many the sandy beaches that surrounds the Aughrus peninsula.
  • Niamh was an excellent host with great recommendations and a well serviced house. Would definitely stay again

  • Gorgeous, stylish, super cozy, and peaceful cottage steeped in history in the wilds of Connemara. We absolutely loved our stay. The heating system and cozy stove warmed the place for us in wild and chilly December, we were so toasty and comfortable. The kitchen is beautiful and modern and all the decor is stylish and comfortable. Great shower and comfortable mattress we slot very soundly. The windows and doors are not only a thing of beauty but keep the howling winds at bay as well as being super insulation. We loved the chilled and easy going vibe of the place. Niamh was really easy to deal with and got back to us promptly on everything. The local area and beaches are so beautiful. Prepare to slow down and unwind. Loved it all!

  • This place is great. Very cozy little farm house just outside of Cleggan. Easy access to beautiful Connemara and the surrounding areas. The place is super cute, with a spacious kitchen and dining room and cozy living room/bedrooms. Clean and well appointed. Niamh was great about communication and extremely hospitable. We’d definitely stay here again!

  • Everything was perfect in Niamh's house! A very pretty house, very well equipped and functional, with a real atmosphere of small house, like at home! Niamh was very responsive and welcoming, with many touches of attention. The house is ideally placed to visit Connemara, and is located 300m from the charming village of Cleggan. The view of the sea from the master bedroom is wonderful! Thanks again !

  • This is a beautiful, comfortable and cosy home in a stunning location. Niamh was great at communicating and check in was very easy. This house is perfect for a relaxing retreat, but also a short stroll to the local village for food. Highly recommend!

  • What a beautiful wonderful place. Niamh is an absolute gem of a host, welcome basket with goodies, epic communication and so warm and wonderful. So sad to have left can’t wait to be back. Look no further stay here you won’t regret it :) The home has such a lovely historic yet updated feel to it. It’s perfect .

  • Naimh's place is warm, comfy and well kitted out, especially for families. it's well placed to take advantage of Connemara or a trip to Inishbofin, Cleggan itself is small but with good food and drink available. Communicating with Nimah was great, she responded quickly and always had an answer. Check in was equally easy. The only thing to note is that the driveway up to the house isn't in the best shape, it has a big pot hole and ridge at the turning and we scratched the front bumper of our car the first time we drove up, so take it cautiously.

  • This cottage was so beautiful. It was cozy and clean. We grilled on the seemingly new grill. Sunsets so amazing!! Water view great. Well worth the money.

  • We could not have been more pleased with our delightful and ever so comfortable cottage, and we are going to miss the enjoyment of such a lovely view upon waking up each morning. Brian and his wife could not have been more warm, welcoming and helpful in guiding us toward all the wonderful sites in the area. The cottage is about a twenty minute walk to the ferry to Inishbofin (which was one of the highlights of our stay) and it was within a reasonable driving distance to visit some of the most picturesque and magical sites throughout Connemara that one will ever see. We really hope we will be fortunate enough to make it back and stay there once again.

    Judy2019-09-07T00:00:00Z

  • Cleggan Beach Cottage is beautifully situated in the bay south of Cleggan. The house is nice and comfortable and with nice cackling chickens as neighbors and suppliers of the breakfast eggs. Just walking distance into Cleggan where there is a good little pub / fish restaurant. Also nice walking paths in the surroundings. Brian is a nice host who is happy to help with tips on the surroundings.

  • This cottage has a direct view to the sea and a sandy beach right in front. Cleggan has a nice fish restaurant and a horse riding stable, it is a good spot to visit other bays and villages in this area of Ireland.

Very well placed for exploring the 12 Bens, Connemara National Park, Derrigimlagh, the 4 cycle routes of Clifden as well as Inishbofin. Geraldine was easy to contact and quick to respond to any queries.

Geraldine is fast to respond and gave some nice tips for local places to see. I'd stay again in a minute.

  • Excellent week in a beautiful and remote area. The cottage is perfectly located, just a few miles from everything you need to see in Connemara. Barry was a great host, happy to chat around about him, Ireland and the house. Just be careful since the bed is rather small for 2 and can be uncomfortable at times with the springs. Other than that, don't hesitate booking this place!

  • Christine was a great host. The place was quiet, clean, and inviting. Breakfast was great and the local pub was nice. We enjoyed our brief stay and would go back again. Our planned trip to the local horseback riding center was cancelled due to renovations, so we had to travel to alternate stables. Had a great visit regardless.

  • We really enjoyed our stay in Cleggan. The house is ideally located with a beautiful view and is a short stroll to Cleggan village. The room was clean with a comfortable bed. However the best part of our stay was the hospitality shown to us by Christine and Séan. They were very helpful and made us feel really welcome. Also the continental breakfast was lovely and set us up for the day. Would highly recommend this B and B.

  • EN: Ronan's house is very well located in the village of Cleggan. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the harbor and pubs and about 15 minutes drive to Clifden. Ronan's mom was extraordinarily kind and could not do enough for us throughout our stay. We were even greeted with tea and cookies! The room is exactly like the pictures and the comfortable bed was welcome after a good day in Connemara. In: Ronan's house is well situated in Cleggan. Approximately 10 minutes walk away from the harbor and 15 minutes away from Clifden by car. Roman's mother was extremely nice and kind to us all along our stay. We were welcome with tea and cakes! The room looks exactly like the pictures and was really comfortable after a good day of exploration in the Connemara.

    James2019-04-30T00:00:00Z
  • The only thing that could’ve made our stay at Anna’s better is if we would’ve stayed there throughout our whole visit to Ireland! The scenery was incredible and the apartment was cozy. It was also very nice to have a washer and dryer being this close to the end of our trip! Anna left amazing scones for us and they were great for breakfast the next morning! I would recommend staying at Anna’s to everyone and hope to return myself in the future!

    Alexandra2018-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent 2 days at Anna’s place, and it was an amazing experience! Super clean and beautiful apartment, breathtaking nature views and very soulful kind hosts who are ready to help with anything. We see that some guests complain about fact that the electricity is managed by a separate meter, but overall is a nice experience that brings you closer to the eco-friendly atmosphere of Ireland. Thank you for such a nice experience in Connemara!

    Pedro2018-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful quiet, little cottage at the sea. Everything you need and more. Anna was on hand if we needed anything and was very helpful. Would love to come back and stay for a week.

    Debbie2018-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful apartment with a gorgeous view and close to a lovely beach. We loved our stay! We were a bit taken off guard by the presence of a meter that only accepted 1 or 2 euro coins for electricity - so when you arrive, come prepared with a bit of change so you can use the amenities!

  • Gillian went above and beyond for my boyfriend and I. She gave amazing recommendations and was incredibly helpful, especially since we did not have a car. The cabin was immaculately clean. The fireplace was very cozy and the view was absolutely stunning. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone considering.

    Amelia2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little place. A lovely welcome from Gillian who had the fire lit and a bottle of vino waiting for us. Having arrived late at night it was a sight for sore eyes. The place itself is lovely, quirky and cosy. The kitchen has it all, living area really comfy with big fireplace. The bed was also fab and waking up and looking out the skylight to lovely views just makes you want to get out there and see it all. Only 3 or 4km from clifden and not too far from renvile and kylemore abbey. All in all and fabulous little spot and well worth the visit. Thanks again Gerry

  • Gillian’s hideaway by the lough is delightful! The apartment was clean and comfortable and a peaceful retreat to return to after a daylong walk in the Connemara. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything needed for cooking a meal. The peat fire added a warm, enchanting atmosphere. Gillian was a lovely hostess and had a lovely bottle of red wine to greet us as well as a freshly baked loaf of sofa bread.

    Cosette2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Nice and cozy little cottage located in Connemara. Gillian welcomed us and it was super easy to check in with her. • A very nice accommodation in a wonderful location by the sea, very well equipped. You need very good shoes because there are wet meadows all around and rocky slippery banks. When arriving by car, you have to drive very carefully to get safely into the narrow driveway to the house. Very suitable for us as a family to relax.

  • This beautiful cottage of Love Connemara Holiday Cottages was a true gem that we found for a friends vacation in a remote area between Clifden and Cleggan. The house was lovely decorated, spacious and had a stunning view from the kitchen to the seaside, with horses residing next to the yard. We also found everything we need in the kitchen and the hosts went above and beyond with additional amenities that we could use for the outdoors. Just one thing to note: the entry way to the house was a bit rocky, so be careful with driving/insurance. We can definitely highly recommend the place!

  • We thoroughly recommend a stay at Cashleen Cottage! Every aspect was fantastic from start to finish. Sinead is a superb host and communication was excellent before and during our stay. She even made sure the kids had buckets and spades to use on the beach. The cottage is beautiful in a wonderful setting. Very modern with everything we needed for a week. We particularly enjoyed the rocky local beach and sandy Renvyle beach, and the ability to walk out the back of the house and up onto Tully Hill. We loved our stay (despite the rain!) and would absolutely recommend this cottage to anyone. Thanks Sinead.

  • This is easily the nicest Airbnb I have ever visited! The first thing I noticed about Bonny was her incredible warmth and welcoming nature. I had mentioned that I was looking into my family history and appeared to have ancestors from nearby Aughris More. Bonny immediately had recommendations for me about local people to speak with and offered to introduce me! The apartment is a dream, complete with a cozy heater made to look like a fireplace, a washer and dryer both in-unit, two beautiful and comfortable bedrooms (one with two twin beds and one with a full bed) and a bathroom with a flat wall heater in it that leaves your towels perfectly warm after you hop out of the shower. Bonny had fresh scones and amazing strawberry jam waiting for me when I arrived. She’d even purchased milk for me and placed it in the fridge in case I wanted to have a cup of tea right when I arrived. The apartment itself looks out on a gorgeous inland lake and beautiful Omey Strand is a lovely 10-minute walk away. I so wish I had been able to stay longer than two days. I cannot think of a single thing that could have been nicer about my stay here. Thank you so very much, Bonny!

  • More than a place to stay, this little apartment has windows with a beautiful view looking out to the mountains. I was contacted almost daily with travel tips and places to visit. The layout was comfortable and the laundry and TV were a great way to catchup after trekking. Most of all was the location so near to Connemara park and Diamond peak, restaurants in both Letterfrack and Clifden, plus the Kylemore Abbey. It was a perfect place to visit many places and have the comforts of home. I recommend anyone coming to the area to reserve this space.

  • We've been there recently for one night as we wanted to see Connamara Nation Park and Kylemore Abbey. Both points of interest are nearby and can be reached within 5 minutes. The appartment itself is on the owners property but has it's own entrance. It was a bit hard to find as the our navigation system didn't know the given road but Irene was very helpful and supportive and was very quick in responding to our messages. Check-In went smooth and Irene showed us the appartment within minutes. One highlight to mention is that Irene offered to drive us to Cliffden (town nearby). This was beyond expectations and was very kind. Altogether we had a great stay and I can definately recommend this place for everyone who is on a roadtrip or to stay for more than one day.

Beautiful traditional cottage with breathtaking views of Omey Island This beautiful newly renovated traditional Irish cottage is set in Aughris, Claddaghuduff overlooking Omey Island and the Atlantic Ocean. The cottage maintains most of its original, rustic features but also has a modern feel The cottage is approx. a 7-8 minute walk to Sweeney’s shop & bar. The bar serves food throughout the day and has plenty of picnic benches outside for enjoying your lunch.
  • Excellent location! Lovely views of Omey island. We walked out when the tide was out, I've never seen so many shells! The kids were delighted. The stove was lit on both evenings, lovely and cosy. Sweeneys shop was a short walk away and very friendly staff. We will be back.

  • This place is incredible! Beautiful ocean view and a free horse in the back. It’s very remote and quiet, on a beautiful Connemara peninsula. The place itself is spacious and cosy with more modern amenities than I expected. I want to go back already.

  • We were amazed by the location of the cottage: the view upon Omey Island is breathtaking. We also really enjoyed meeting people at Sweeney's! The cottage was clean and cosy and we got everything we needed. We got quick replies from Joe any time we messaged him. In a nutshell: it is a great accomodation!

  • This place has the most amazing views from every window. If you can drag yourself away, the rest of the house is warm and comfortable. Thoughtful touches of family photos help you feel at home. Comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Take care on the road to the house as you might struggle with a low car.

  • Great place and perfect welcome from Eric and Pam. It was just the kind of airbnb we wanted to find in Ireland. Great hospitality, friendly, fun and many recommendations on the region. Great and big room, good breakfast and very nice location with a beautiful view on the see and on the mountain (the sky road is just in front of the house). Only one regret : having spent only 1 night here. Hope to come back in this beautiful house with the great company of Eric and Pam. Merci pour tout!

  • It was our first AirB&B experience. And it was great. Eric and Pam are very friendly hosts. Pam made us a great breakfast. We enjoyed our conversations with Eric! I can highly recommend this B&B!

  • We arrived quite late in the day to find Eric manning the B & B by himself. He was very gracious about our arrival being no problem. Beautiful location and comfortable room. Enjoyed the peace and quiet. Internet was not working since the allocation for the service had been used by a guest who did some heavy downloading instead of just email and surfing, so no fault of the owner. Thanks for hosting us.
