Places to stay in Carmel-by-the-Sea
Our quaint, thoughtfully-stocked 300 sq ft cottage is located steps from the ocean (5 min walk), yet tucked away behind our home, affording guests ample privacy, easy parking and all the amenities of home. Sip wine on the patio after a day of adventures while listening to the surf, and sleep soundly on our new king Saatva eco-hybrid mattress.
Our 1 bed/1 bath, studio-style cottage is offered fully furnished with kitchenette, organic fair trade coffee, selection of teas, and high quality organic breakfast items provided. If you have food allergies or dietary limitations of any kind, please let us know in advance, we're happy to accommodate you! Please note: we recently gutted the kitchenette and it now has 2 gas burners for cooking, a sink, and fridge. Due to the small space and limited availability of petite-sized appliances, we no longer have an oven or freezer. In place of an oven, we've just added a well-rated Breville countertop oven, which is large enough to roast a turkey, make a pizza, or do a little baking, should the mood strike. However, if you plan to do a lot of cooking during your stay, you’ll likely prefer to seek out a property with a full-sized kitchen. Hundreds of tv channels On Demand shows and movies Secured Wifi Charming private patio Complimentary toiletries Iron/ironing board Hair dryer All linens included Dishes, pots, pans, + oil, spices, etc. Organic coffee/sugar/half & half Eco Friendly "Luxury Firm" King mattress Beach chairs & beach towels provided Pet Friendly* *PET POLICY: Well-behaved pets are welcome - we are dog lovers! However, based on over 9 years of hosting experience, we now charge a $25 cleaning fee for pets over 15 lbs, or multiple pets. This is not collected up front (via Airbnb) - you can pay the cleaning fee during your stay. (Our policy is too specific for us to build it into our Airbnb fee collection.) The cottage comfortably sleeps 2. If your party is larger (i.e. a 3rd person, or a child) please contact us in advance to discuss arrangements, we can stash a twin air mattress or Pack 'n Play and extra linens in the closet prior to your arrival. Location: 5 minute walk to Asilomar State Beach, Asilomar Conference Ctr, and the recreation trail (Bring your binoculars - almost guaranteed sightings of otters and seals, and lately, whale spouts!) 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive to downtown Pacific Grove (On Monday afternoon/evenings there is a fantastic little Farmers Market) 10 minute drive to Oldtown Monterey/Wharf Approximately 3 miles from Cannery Row/Monterey Bay Aquarium Less than 1 mile from the 17 mile drive gates into Pebble Beach 1/3 mile from Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course 20ish minute drive to Carmel Valley/Wine Country 30ish minute drive to INCREDIBLY scenic Big Sur Bring your bicycles - our mild climate and stunning scenery make the Monterey Peninsula an ideal spot to explore on 2 wheels. We *LOVE* hosting Airbnb guests - making friends from around the world, and close to home. Whether you opt to stay with us, or elsewhere, I'm confident you'll enjoy your trip to the stunning Monterey Peninsula. You should know a couple things.... 1. We are a pet-friendly property - if you suffer from pet allergies you should know there may have been a guest pup in the cottage prior to your reservation. Though we do clean the cottage thoroughly between guests, it is likely that allergens are still present. Ultimately - we want you to be comfortable, therefore we *STRONGLY* discourage booking if you have pet allergies - there are so many lovely options in the area and most are not pet-friendly. 2. Approximately once per week (usually Friday mornings) we have our weekly yard service. Sometimes the maintenance is relatively quiet (raking, trimming, etc.) and sometimes the situation is far more noisy (leaf blowers, weed wackers, fence repair, and the like). 3. Finally.... Our calendar is updated daily and is indeed accurate. If the dates you want are not available it is because they're already booked by another guest. I'm not sure how everyone plans so far in advance, but it is not unusual for us to be booked 8+ months in advance.
Hands down, the best part about our 'hood is the proximity to the ocean. You can (usually) hear it, and smell it from our house, and see its amazing beauty within a brief walk. On a clear night, the sunsets are breathtaking.
  • Nice cottage, very close to a nice little beach front area

Stay in our Carmel Rustic Cabin along with your FurKid (see dog fee below) while shopping, visiting local wineries and restaurants or just walking your dog off-leash along Carmel's white sandy beach. Hidden in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities and minutes from downtown and the beaches. FYI the coast drive is now accessible between here and LA, but may be shut down during stormy weather, so be sure to follow local weather reports or just call Caltrans.
You'll find our Rustic Cabin like a Treehouse is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable and Cozy (250 sq ft). PLUS, the cabin is very quiet, very private, and equipped with a small "kitchenette," super high-speed WIFI for streaming and cable TV. We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido, but PLEASE NOTE . . . we are now charging $25 extra for one to two small to mid-size dogs. Dog surcharge will be added after you've booked. We also ask that you bring the appropriate dog bedding as well as food and water dishes. Deer and other wild animals are often around at night, so don't be spooked if your dog decides to growl a bit. Even squirrels will set our dogs off. We provide coffee and tea to get you started in the morning. No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot, toaster, and dishes - all ideal for take out. You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you. For those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously. Also, because we're located in the woods, pollens may be a problem for you as well. If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.
The cabin is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood facing the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy adjacent to Pescadero, a little used road where neighbors like to walk their dogs, or where cyclists test their strength on a grueling hill full of switchbacks. Want to look out on the forest? Want to watch birds whiz by with squirrels nearby? You can, yet we're so close to town, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the post office. Also, you might like to know Carmel has been voted one of the Top Ten Dog Friendly places in the country. WOOF! So, bring your dog. Please check the CALENDAR tab above to determine whether we've been booked.
  • Great location close to town with a lovely balcony overlooking a lush ravine. Nice additional touches in the room as well. Thanks Tom!!

    Angela2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second stay at Tom's place, and we were so happy to return. We were able to stay a bit longer this time, and enjoyed more time on the small patio and in town which is very close. It was quiet and peaceful, and a great location for us and the dogs! We are already hoping to return again!

    Angela2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy little cabin in the trees. This was a very peaceful spot and we really enjoyed our stay here. Sitting on the balcony with a beer after a long drive was delightfully relaxing. Close to everything Carmel has to offer, but just enough off the beaten track. All in all, a great find.

    Judy2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this trip as a short get-away from the hustle-and-bustle of the Bay Area and demanding jobs. Tom's place was exactly what we needed. It is a quiet neighborhood not far from downtown but far enough to offer peace and tranquility; it was the best of both worlds. The cabin itself is on a hillside down some steps from the main house. It is very private and surrounded by lush trees and plants. There is a cute little deck facing down the hill to enjoy coffee and snacks. The cabin offers basic amenities, which is all we needed, including a very comfy bed. It was very clean and quaint. Tom is very kind and a great host. We love this place and can't wait to return!

    Victoria2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great and cute accommodation. You have to go down some stairs in Order to reach the housing but Tom installed some lights which makes it very easy to find. We enjoyed our stay.

    Jessica2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very rustic and charming place surrounded by nature. Friendly host. Close proximity to center of town. A bit small but we just needed a place to sleep so it was perfect. Highly recommended and would love to come back again.

    Huey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tom’s cabin was great! Parking was easy. The step to the cabin were sturdy. The cabin itself was clean and everything worked as expected. The town is 5 minutes drive from the cabin, where there’s lots to do!

    Pradeep2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Tom’s awesome cabin. We had a great time, look forward to coming back :)

Wake to an ocean view from a King sized bed, with seals barking and birds singing. Enjoy the granite walk-in shower w/sky window. Dance to the vinyl collection, hang in the exotic succulent gardens and enjoy the CA/Zen blend… magical and peaceful.
Welcome to California Dreaming Suite. Wake up to an ocean view right from your bed and enjoy the sound of the morning birds singing. Fall asleep to the sound of the seals barking under a star filled sky. And you will sleep well on the king-size organic wool/latex mattress... it has been named the most comfortable bed in the world by numerous guests! Enjoy your private entrance/suite/shower with a sky window that opens to the warmth of the sun. If you feel like dancing, enjoy the eclectic vinyl collection with everything from Miles Davis to The Tubes. Does this sound too good to be true? Nope, it's really that great! California Dreaming is an eco-friendly private suite with natural cork flooring, bamboo, shoji, recycled granite, and non-toxic paint. It is a Dwell-inspired, eclectic blend of Japanese Zen and California design overlooking the garden, trees and the Pacific Ocean - a truly magical, romantic, fun space. This is a relaxed coastal "locals" experience. Stay in and rest or venture out into the wild. Whatever you feel like doing, I am happy to help with suggestions for everything from the best hikes to the best food. Please note I am a five star cleaner and am now using disinfecting sprays and wipes with every clean, so you can have a worry free stay. I want you to have a wonderful time while you're my guests. I have lived in Pacific Grove for 16 years and am happy to help you create a memorable, lovely holiday. Coastal walks, white sand beaches, best local restaurants and music, best free parking and favorite Monterey Bay Aquarium exhibits, rugged Big Sur hikes, etc... What are you waiting for? PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ONE NIGHT RESERVATIONS WITHOUT ASKING IN ADVANCE. I rarely accept one night reservations on weekends or accept one night reservations more than a week or two (depending on season) in advance or if there is an empty night between bookings. Note pricing varies according to seasons, weekends and special events. I have an awesome 19 year old three-legged blind, deaf dog named Zeus and we both love having furry friends visit. I accept pets at my discretion (please tell me about your pup when you book) and there is a $35 pet fee payable on arrival. I have a leash only rule in the back gardens because they are full of exotic, fragile succulents and prickly cactus. Also, please pick up after your pup and use designated areas in garden. CA Dream Suite has both a California King size bed and twin bed. I accept up to three people. There is a $45 fee per person, after two people. I offer coffee and a selection of teas. Wi-fi is strong indoors and outside. Outdoor garden patio with deck chairs and a picnic table. All linens and towels included. Please note... I do NOT iron the cotton bed sheets. They are clean but may be wrinkled. Garage with washer and dryer and room for your bicycle, golf clubs, surfboard or extra stuff, upon request. Trader Joe's and Safeway grocery stores are 2 minutes away, Whole Foods is 10 minutes away. I have a thorough manual that comes with booking, but here are some basic local Activities (please note activities within Pacific Grove, Monterey, Pebble Beach and Carmel-By-The-Sea are within a five to ten minute drive) Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf Asilomar State Beach and coastal trail/boardwalk. Surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, bike riding, whale watching. Sunrise from Lovers Point Park or Sunset from Asilomar Beach. Big Sur, Point Lobos hiking, Esalen, Wine tasting in Carmel Valley Dining Out (we have a long list of favorites). Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Carmel, 17 Mile Drive. Pebble Beach/AT&T golf. Tip: Pacific Grove Muni back nine ocean course is considered the “Poor Man’s Pebble” at $35 after 3:00pm. Monterey Jazz Festival, Laguna Seca car/motorcycle races, Sea Otter Bicycle Classic, Concours d'Elegance car show. Great spas, discount for local massage (massage can even be in the bungalow so you don't have to drive) Pacific Grove monarch butterfly sanctuary. Public transportation nearby. Weather: Summer is coastal fog and sunny. Fall is our Indian Summer – our best weather. Winter is the local's season – sometimes crystal clear and moderate, sometimes with great storms, big waves and no tourists. Spring is a little bit of all of the above, sometimes windy and lots of flowers in the garden! Legal and licensed rental: In order to accept reservations and host guests, the City of Pacific Grove requires that we possess a transient use license. Airbnb will collect transient occupancy taxes from each of our guests, and this amount is calculated separately. City of Pacific Grove Transient Use License #0390. Please note this space is marketed as private space but because it is attached to the main house, it is permitted as a room share. This is unique and important since May 2020, only owner occupied residences will be legal in Pacific Grove. If you book a place that isn't owner occupied (unless coastal commission) after May 2020 it will be shut down by the city of Pacific Grove. Be careful what you book!
This is a safe, serene neighborhood with lots of really nice people. My neighbors love Airbnb due to considerate guests. There are a lot of small children in the neighborhood so DRIVE 10 MPH in cul-de-sac. Thanks! Make sure you have read instructions and are clear exactly where to park. Neighborhood peace is a really cool thing..
  • Sarah was a wonderful host. So friendly and had the best recommendations. Place was comfy, very clean, and stocked with all you need for a kitchen and bathroom. Highly recommend!

  • Beautiful and convenient location for exploring a lovely little sea side town. Just a short drive to Big Sur , which is simply gorgeous . Thoughtful touches , spotless, with a gorgeous view. As a record collector I very much enjoyed waking up in the morning and putting on a record. Would absolutely visit again .

    Koty2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s place is in a very convenient location between Monterey and Carmel with a quiet and private space simultaneously. It is comfortable with a nice view and outdoor space. The shower and record player were both unique and fun aspects of the stay!

    Julie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A very pretty studio is a very pretty location. Had everything we needed. Wonderful garden for sitting outside. The host has detailed suggestions for local tourism, which was very thoughtful.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Had high hopes for this stay and they were realized! Sarah is great and her place is adorable. She was filled with local tips that were right on - we loved meandering around Pacific Grove (“PG”), Monterey and Carmel - and we had a wonderful road trip to Big Sur. Julia’s for dinner; Lover’s Point for sunrise, Aquarium anytime. You’ll love it! We had a wonderful mother-daughter weekend. Highly recommend.

    Amy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very personable while mindful of boundaries, meticulous without being obsessive , gracious and a wealth of local knowledge. Couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.

    Linda2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend Sarah’s “California Dreaming” Bungalow. An amazing location with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Conveniently located for access to the many Pebble Beach area golf courses and the Monterey Bay.

    Richard2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time in beautiful Monterey Bay! The aquarium, cannery row, and old fisherman's wharf were about a 10 minute drive away from the airbnb. The space itself was clean and cozy. We loved waking up to the ocean view and having tea by the window or hanging out in the zen garden. We also enjoyed the record selection! My husband really enjoyed the shower with the sunroof because it felt like we were showering in the forest haha! We slept really well during our trip because the space was free from any distractions. Miss Sarah was so accommodating and a generous host that we won't hesitate recommending or booking with her again!:)

This charming historic studio was once owned by American author John Steinbeck. It's been featured in several articles including “20 Romantic AirBnB Getaways”, “Get Cultured While You Sleep at These AirBnBs That are Historical Landmarks” and in Airbnb Magazine's June/July 2019 edition. As of May 27, 2020, there is a 30-night minimum stay for this cottage. Special rates will apply - 65% off the daily rate and no city occupancy tax.
Currently, there is construction at our next door neighbor's house. The work is being done Monday - Friday during the day. Please be aware that there will be some noise during the day. 'I bought a small house and garden in Pacific Grove...' (John Steinbeck: A Life in Letters). American author John Steinbeck wrote these words to a friend about this charming house he called home in the 1940s. This cozy studio retreat has one bedroom with a queen bed and and a sitting area, a spacious full bathroom, and a fully stocked kitchen. There is cable TV and wireless internet. The studio is approximately 350 square feet. It is original 1920's architecture and has short doorways throughout the studio. Taller guests will need to mind their heads passing through entry-ways. It is one of three cottages on the property and has a unique and rich literary history, having belonged to John Steinbeck in the early 1940's. He used it as his writing studio and worked on novels including The Sea of Cortez while living here. It has been renovated to pay homage to the period and history of the property. It has a masculine and sophisticated, yet romantic feel.
The property is in a quiet residential neighborhood in Pacific Grove. It offers plenty of street parking. As for the city, Pacific Grove has been called “Butterfly Town U.S.A.,” “The Most Romantic City in the U.S.,” “A Dreamy California Destination, ” as well as an idyllic place to get married, to honeymoon or to just hang out. Some of it is self-proclaimed, some the acclaim of people who have actually visited Pacific Grove. You will find Pacific Grove on the very tip of the scenic, tree-shrouded Monterey Peninsula with a rocky coastline and an ambiance of charm, grace and beauty. Founded in the 1870s as a Methodist summer retreat, Pacific Grove still bears the look and feel of yesteryear. As you stroll the residential streets admiring the charm of home after home, you will notice little plaques on many of the homes that bear the name of the original owner and the year in which it was built. To qualify for a plaque from the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove, a structure must look like it did when it was originally built. Among its visitors are brightly colored orange-and-black Monarch butterflies, who overwinter in Pacific Grove after traveling up to 2,000 miles, arriving by the thousands starting in October, peaking around Christmas and departing by March. Besides its scenic beauty and idyllic neighborhoods, Pacific Grove offers an eclectic downtown experience, with small boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, antique stores and more. Other vibrant shopping areas are along Central Avenue at the entrance to Pacific Grove from Cannery Row and at the top of Forest Avenue on Forest Hill.
  • Such a wonderful stay in this historic cottage! I highly recommend this to literature buffs and anyone wanting to explore the area.

  • We had a lovely stay in the Writers Studio. Everything we needed to be comfortable was close at hand. We loved the decor and we were just a short downhill walk to many restaurants and activities. I would definitely stay again. Communication was always quick, friendly and easy. Thanks again Kevin and Vicky 🤩

  • The Steinbeck Writing Studio is a MUST DO for any John Steinbeck reader/fan. Even if you aren’t a Steinbeck fan, the studio is a perfect quiet retreat for an individual or couple. It has an eclectic charm that makes you feel so cozy and comfortable, that you’ll want to curl up and read all day. The location is fantastic and very walkable. We walked all over Pacific Grove, Cannery Row and Monterey. We never drove the car once after we arrived. Kevin and Vicky were very responsive and thoughtful hosts. We would highly recommend the studio to anyone! 5 stars all day!

    Blake2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in the Steinbeck cottage. Easy check-in, and close to the many attractions and restaurants the Monterey peninsula offers.

    Hunter2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place was wonderful, centrally located, good access to parking, great Wi-Fi, and all the charm we could handle.

    Bill2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an AirBnb you will absolute want to book. Every single detail you could want or think to put into a place Kevin and Vicky did. A book full of tips, suggestions, and reviews of different places around town. The perfect location to access those places as well as a perfect cottage to retreat to after the long day. I loved reading why other people had come to the cottage with the journal left for guests to write in. The place itself was spotless and stocked full of all the things that make you feel at home. I really couldn’t of wanted more or had a better time staying at this AirBnb. Thank you guys again so much!

    Christina2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Not just a historical delight but an adorable and highly functional space. Excellent communication and zero complications or issues! We would enthusiastically stay again. Thank you!

Residential neighborhood so we are removed from the main dining and shopping scene, 1.5 miles from beach, 3 miles from downtown, Bay views
  • We almost felt home in this cosy house. Great breakfast, very nice location, super great hosts. They gave us a lot of valuable information about the neighbourhood and places to visit. Most of all, they help us getting an early flight back home during this difficult time (covid19).

    Léo2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Seaside was the 2nd stage of our roadtrip after San Francisco. The house is ideally located, in a very calm and impeccably clean environment. Annemarie and Jesse are in perfect hospitality. In addition Annemarie speaks French, which can be very useful when our English vocabulary is limited. We will not hesitate to return on a future trip.

    Jean-Jacques2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you're still reading this review and deciding whether or not to book here - BOOK HERE! Do it! Annemarie and Jesse are such wonderful hosts. Their house and garden is absolutely charming. The breakfast was delicious. Just a short drive to everything you want to see in the area. Hope to stay again!

    Betsy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay in the Monterey area. But what made it truly special was our time at Annemarie and Jesse's lovely home. They were easy going and helpful in every way and made our journey even that more pleasurable.

    Michael2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Feels like home :) My favorite place to stay in Seaside. I keep coming back and can't get enough. Thank you, Annemarie, Jesse and Jocelyne!

    Katieann2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended - beautiful historic house with wonderful hosts, wonderful gardens, great breakfast in the morning. Always a pleasure to stay here!

    Briar2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, tranquil, must-stay experience. Annemarie, Jesse and Jocelyne think of everything, and I feel so cared for, body and soul, when I stay here (I'm a happy repeat customer, I've stayed here multiple times on my visits to Monterey). The inn feels like a home - inviting fireplace in the living room in the evenings, nourishing and tasty breakfast in the dining room in the mornings, and many cozy spots to sit in the garden, relax, meditate, whatever you need. The inn is centrally located - close to the bay, Big Sur - so you can go out if you like, or you can completely relax in this cozy spot. This room is particularly lovely- giant bed, writing desk, chairs to relax in, and a distant view of the water. Thank you for a lovely stay, I can't wait to visit again!

  • Lu’s place is in such a great location . Right in the gated community of Pebble beach . It’s on 17 mile highway and she provides 2 Monterey Bay Aquarium tickets!

  • Lu’s place is cosy and peaceful. Lu provided a number of thoughtful touches that made the stay at Pebble beach amazing, such as the lovely aquarium passes! You will also have access to a kitchen as well as washer/dryer; definitely great for long-term travellers. With a car, the place is strategically located so that you’ll be able to explore Monterey sufficiently.

    Nur2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for 2 nights with a friend from college. It was our first time in the area and we loved the location! The aquarium passes were an added treat. Also that we were already in Pebble Beach and could do the 17 mile drive was a fun opportunity. I would definitely stay again, probably for a few extra nights and do some outdoor sports.

    Michelle2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely bookmarking this listing. Lu provides a perfectly cozy spot in a truly special place. 10/10 will return, wish I could buy it and stay forever! (:

(Please see full listing for all amenities.)
*Floor to ceiling windows look out to beautiful large tiled patio and gardens. Window coverings assure your privacy. Our repeat guests love the studio and have affirmed our commitment to providing you with a wonderfully relaxing stay with us. The Calendar is updated daily - feel free to book instantly - the studio is always ready for guests. Please be aware that the second bed (for a third guest), is a twin air bed, which can be found in the closet with extra linens. It can be "tight" with the airbed opened but okay for a place to sleep and then deflate bed during the day, if you are on a budget or for a child. Although we have tried to be as transparent as possible with our description, we invite you to check all of the amenities section for a complete list. Pooches welcome with prior approval! ( $29. pet fee per pooch, per visit.) Completely fenced-in yard, within walking distance to a lovely nature preserve. Pooches are not to be left unattended in yard, due to barking and other issues. We do not accept cats or birds in the studio. If you like peace and privacy, this is the place for you. Please see pet guidelines further down in this description! Come and go as you please at any hour of the day or night without the fear of disturbing us, as you have your own entrance and do not go through the main house at all. Enjoy this fabulous super sunny master bedroom studio, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on huge fenced tiled patio with fruit trees and gardens. I am most welcoming, yet unobtrusive, so that you will find this to be a comfortable oasis. I travel often, of course, I am reachable for any questions, advice, requests or needs via the AirBnB booking thread or cell phone for any urgent matters. You will enter through a side gate, walk down the adobe paved path, lit with motion-sensor spots, through the heirloom roses, which are highly scented when in bloom. No need to go through the main house, as the studio is separate from the rest of the main house, (although attached by one common wall.) You will walk past the main house to enter the studio. Super-private and very quiet, except for the birds, yet centrally located; five minutes to downtown Monterey, Laguna Seca Raceway or CSUMB and ten minutes to Monterey Bay Aquarium. There is a 24-hour Safeway and Walgreen's just 2 minutes away, in case you have any midnight cravings! Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are 10 minutes away. We are located in a wonderful little sun belt, perched high upon a hilltop with a nice view of Monterey Bay in a very quiet residential neighborhood, so typically we are above any fog – especially during the summer season when the rest of the Monterey Peninsula could be socked-in! We are at the top of a street which ends in a cul-de-sac so there is not a lot of through traffic and super-easy street parking right in front of the house. Painted in a soothing palette and tastefully furnished, the studio is comprised of large sunny master bedroom with hardwood floors and your own private updated Travertine marble bathroom (shower - no tub) supplied with towels, hairdryer and high-quality toiletries. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a view of patio, creating a sunny and bright ambiance. A dimmer switch for the overhead chandelier, a writing table, and new smart TV with remote control plus wi-fi make your stay complete. If you do watch a program or film that has an additional viewing cost on Amazon or Netflix, you will be billed after your checkout. The detailed FAQ binder has been very helpful to our guests and includes restaurant menus and helpful suggestions. Also, there is a lot of info on the local area and attractions. The studio is heated through vents by a gas forced-air furnace, (controlled by the thermostat located in the main house) and if you need extra heat, there are more blankets plus a space heater for your complete comfort. It rarely gets that cold here, but if we do get a cold snap in Jan or Feb I want you to be totally comfortable! A fan is there for those hot days we get once in a while! Sleep peacefully in the Queen-sized bed outfitted with 100% cotton linens (line dried when possible) and cozy blankets, then enjoy breakfast outside on the patio when weather permits. Our guests have raved about the bed! For an extra guest, there is a twin air bed. (tight but doable if you are on a budget or traveling with child.) We use scent-free laundry products. The kitchenette/breakfast bar includes a new microwave, and coffee maker (filters provided - byo coffee please.) The under-the-counter fridge has a separate freezer compartment with ice trays big enough for some frozen foods or ice cream. (Note: this is not a full kitchen, so please don't plan any major cooking in the room.) Set up for reheating, take out, etc. We switched to compostable cups, plates, silverware, etc. There are real wine glasses and mugs. NOTE! We ask that you don't use all appliances at once while using hairdryer, as it may trigger the circuit breaker. Access is through the large fenced-in beautiful, sunny patio in the backyard, filled with organic raised bed vegetable gardens which change seasonally, fruit trees and roses. This is a great location, centrally located between Highway One and Highway 68, near the recreation trail, Frog Pond, beaches and terrific hills for a morning or evening stroll. No smoking inside – okay on patio. Dogs allowed with extra charge of $29. per visit, per pooch. Please advise in advance of any dogs when you are making your booking - i will then send you an alteration to add the pet fee. Pets must be supervised in the backyard at all times. You will be responsible for any pet damage to property. There is a pet section in the FAQ binder which has lots of dog-friendly places in the area. Please also read the following PET GUIDELINES: - dogs are not permitted on the furniture - dogs may only be left in studio if they are kenneled and do not bark when left alone in an unfamiliar place, no exceptions - please bring your own pet bedding and do not use towels, bedspread or bath mats for dogs - dogs may not be left unattended on the back patio, due to complaints of excessive barking and digging - dogs not allowed in garden beds - when walking your pooch, please avoid the neighbors across the street on either corner, as they have complained and I want to keep my neighbors happy! Also, please pick up after your pooch and dispose of properly. A sophisticated foodie and twenty-nine year resident of the Monterey Peninsula, I am a great resource of information if needed. Also, the studio is also stocked with books on the area, local magazines & brochures, and a binder with menus from my favorite restaurants, brochures and information on local attractions, plus various local offers are stashed in the desk drawer. There is a fully equipped gym 2 minutes away for those who want to get their workout in. Check out the desk drawers for passes to one of our local wine tasting rooms and other attractions, as they come available. If you need restaurant recommendations prior to arrival, I am happy to assist. My edited list of favorite go-to spots are in the FAQ binder. If your party is larger than two (i.e. a 3rd person, or a child) please contact us in advance with questions about twin air bed prior to your arrival. (stored with extra linens in the closet.) Rates may be slightly higher during major events including AT&T Pro-Am, Concours d'Elegance, US Open, Jazz Festival, etc. I live in the main house. Though we do clean the studio thoroughly between guests, you should be aware that we are a dog-friendly property. No cats allowed in the studio. I use scent-free laundry detergent on all of the towels and bed linens. BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE - CALENDAR IS UP-TO-DATE! • Mark was very hospitable and his place is nice and quiet. A good room with nice touches for what the cost was to stay there. Also based on his suggestion I had a nice time at a park I was not aware of.

  • I had a great stay at Mark's. He is a very conscientious host. Self-check-in instructions were simple, the place was sparking clean, and his description of his listing is spot on.

    Ed2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I had high expectations for my stay from reading previous reviews and Mark did not disappoint! He was thoughtful, kind and his place was spotless. I was in town for the Kyle Cease meditation retreat and Mark’s house offered the quiet reflection spot I needed for a tremendous experience during the retreat.

    Sage2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Easy check-in, very clean room and private bathroom, it seemed to be away from the main part of the house so it was very private and quiet. Mark was home when we checked in and was very polite and showed us around. He offers water, teas, coffee and creamer and has a keurig machine. There is a microwave and mini fridge in the room. TV has Netflix and Amazon. The bed was a little firmer than I’m used to (I like really soft beds) but my husband loved it. There are extra blankets if you get cold. Also, the driveway is very steep, so if you have a very low car (like I do), just go very slow and at an angle. Great host, great place and great location! Thank you!!

  • Really cool victorian house converted into a hotel. The space itself is has nice touches to evoke the old feel, for ex. historical photos of the Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur area are pretty cool. Good value for the money, clean & quiet

    Jonah2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is super cute and in a convenient location. Super clean and cozy, very quiet, free parking, fast free WiFi, and walking distance to the beach, aquarium, and tons of restaurants. It's an older house but it's really been updated indoors to feel more modern which was a pleasant surprise. Would definitely stay here again!

  • Felt more like a hotel than an Airbnb, but in the best way. Very tiny rooms, but we didn’t want to spend too much time there anyway. Great location! Would have loved to have more than one mirror. Would definitely stay here again!

  • This place is in a great location next to plenty local spots. Amazing value!

    Aaron2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Gas fireplace looks great but does not function well. We used their available portable electric heater instead. It heated the room faster. A little squeaks on the floor but the bedroom has all the important amenities and very clean. A binder was available with all the important information needed. Overall, we love this beautiful historical house. The pictures I’ve taken resulted with so many love and likes in my social media posting. We’ll definitely come back again.

Jeff was a fantastic host and greeted us personally and offered recommendations for things to do in the area as well as places to eat. Can’t say enough good things about this home and the host!

  • One of the first things I will say about Carmel's place (that I was not expecting) was a daily cleaning service. It was a pleasant surprise. Even though we did not take advantage of it daily it was nice to know that in the middle of our stay we were able to get some basic items taking care of. The room is pretty spacious with a dresser and a futon for sitting or additional sleeping. A heater and a fan was provided. I brought a night light just in case the room was extremely dark but it had motion lights so we could see when moving around during the night. Full size refrigerator. A hot plates for cooking, microwave. The place was very welcoming quiet and surreal. Most of all the parking was very convenient. Overall it was a five-star Cottage experience for our family.

    Darise Sanker2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Decent place. A bit weird that it doesn't have a shower/bathroom, but has a full kitchen. But we were warned and ready, and enjoyed our quick stopover.

  • Situated in a nice quiet neighborhood, Le Petite Papillon offers a wonderful alternative for those traveling to Carmel. The bathroom and closet are quite spacious and the bed is super comfy. The host personalized our stay, and went beyond our expectations. They covered all the bases and we are very appreciative.

    Kirsten2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location and special touches to help us celebrate our wedding anniversary. We easily went to Big Sur and even took a day trip to Hearst Castle. Lots of great food right around the studio, within a mile or two. Things in Carmel do tend to close up earlier at night, but Monterrey is only an exit or two away. David and Brenda are the most attentive hosts we've had.

    Nancy2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a charming place to stay when visiting Carmel-by-the-Sea. Very spacious, cozy, and comfortable for two people. Thoughtful amenities, wonderful garden area to enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail, and a lovely walk to town and the beach. My husband and I had a perfect stay. Carmel is a magical place.

  • The Le Petite Papillon was the perfect location to enjoy an absolutely exquisite trip to lovely Carmel. Right off Ocean Ave you are nestled in a gorgeous neighborhood a few blocks from downtown. Our hosts were so kind and thoughtful with their suggestions and hospitality, from trails to hike to all the best eating they made sure our stay was perfect. The room was full of lovely touches and had a true Carmel feel. They thought of everything you might need or may have forgotten. This long weekend was a truly relaxing get away for us and we can’t recommend the Le Petite Papillon enough for your stay.

    Joseph2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The warmth, convenience and coziness of Le Petite Papillon was only outshone by the warmth, thoughtfulness and kindness of David and Brenda. Our anniversary getaway in Carmel was ever more special because they made it so. A comfy bed awaits you at the end of a candlelit path. Their gardens... clearly a labor of love as is their attention to detail. They were even kind enough to ask in advance and had a French press with freshly ground coffee, a bottle of wine and even my dairy free creamer waiting for us! The space itself is charming.... well appointed and conveniently located near the delightful downtown shops and restaurants; David and Brenda make it easy with plenty of local tips. Truly though- a special stay because of their extra efforts, quick and detailed communication and kindness. Truly a five star stay and hosts took It off the charts. We will be back!!

    Alison2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We just returned from a 3 night stay at the beautiful Le Petite Papillon! The house was exactly as described, and very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed the extra touches and thoughtful welcome gifts the hosts left out for us. It was so simple to rent this charming house, and we loved how close it is to downtown Carmel. Truly a wonderful get away, and the nicest hosts you could ask for. Thank you so much!

Your space is the smaller of the two rooms upstairs in a charming home in the wooded neighborhood of Mar Vista park. Although the bathroom is shared, the other room has a private half bath, which decreases the traffic in the shared bath. Please be aware that this is a traditional owner occupied Airbnb. This is not one of the recent wave of investment properties that are hosted by hired help and managed as a full service hotel. Although the owner makes every effort to prepare the bed and the house for each guest, he supports the B&B alone, has a career, is a full time graduate student, and serves in the military. So outgoing guests are asked to strip the bed and leave the house as clean and tidy as they found it, and there may be times when the owner is called away, and a new guest will have to make their own bed. In other words, even though the house is regularly professionally cleaned, you are not buying concierge service with this room. Instead, you are getting the benefit of a home away from home, and sharing a friendly and cozy house with locals. Expect pets and their shedding, as well as other guests and residents to be about. If you like having a kitchen to use, sipping your coffee in the woods with a view of the bay, sitting by the fire on the deck at night, and meeting interesting people and dogs, this place is for you.. and if it is for you, you know how rare of a thing it is to find.
It is extremely rare to find a large, secluded and quiet wooded property so close to town in Monterey. This place has the best of both worlds. Seclusion when you need it, and access when you want it. We are on the low side of the hill on the outer end toward Carmel; high enough to have a birds eye, but low enough to be accessible.
  • If you love coffee, easy atmosphere, wine, and being around a great host then this is the place for you. I stayed here for months as a travel nurse at CHOMP (only a 4 min drive). The location is perfect and close to grocery stores, the beach, and more. Jason is really accommodating and kind. Easy to communicate with, and readily available. Also animals are more than welcome :) I look forward to staying next time I’m in Monterey.

  • Jason’s place is a rare find in the world of Airbnb’s. The fact that he cares so much about his guests and their experience coupled with the opportunity to travel with my dogs has been unmatched so far in my travels. My room was comfortable and the shared bath was never a problem even when there were two other people using it. I loved the common area, Felt comfortable cooking in the kitchen; hanging in the living room as well as enjoying the spacious wooded backyard where my dogs were in heaven! The location of Jason’s Airbnb is great. It’s close to Highway 1, downtown Monterey and Carmel. I loved that the whole area is dog-friendly. You will not find a better value.

  • This place is in a very beautiful location! You are super close to everything, yet you still feel like you are enough out of the city to experience more nature. You’ll have the chance to meet other travelers. My dog was very welcome here which made it super easy on me! Jason was quick to respond, and overall I was very happy with my stay :)

  • Jason is just terrific; he’s kind, easy to get along with, very direct, and always accessible. Plus, he’s just a normal, genuine, easy going, fun to be around human being, the kind of person who’s comfortable in their own skin. He’s very thoughtful and accommodating. I appreciate the terrific coffee and biscottis he provides in the morning, and he went the extra mile offering me some Epsom Salts to soak in the bath after I fell and was pretty sore. He has a good eye for and attends to detail, and I find it impressive that such a young man, an obvious talented jack of all trades (skilled remodeler of his house, surfer, mechanic, and other “guy” stuff) does such a outstanding job maintaining his AirBnB home & rooms with such a relaxed poise, an easy finesse, while masking his true worries about soft sheets and towels. Also, he can be counted on to be a good source of info on the Monterey area, knows all the spots, restaurants, shopping, etc. I’m still here and haven’t left yet, and don’t want to. I just switched rooms. I stayed the Master - switched to the littlest room then back to the Master again, so I’ve got a pretty good idea of the layout of the land, and will likely be continuing my stay. There’s a tv with Roku in every room, and his WiFi has been stable and fast. I love to work on my computer out on the deck during the day, and lately I’ve been hanging out on one of two hammocks. Super peaceful. The backyard is huge, fenced, which my two dogs love. It’s quiet, forested, huge trees, and the street above is lovely as well to take the dogs out for a walk. Though you can’t see the ocean, I especially like it at night when I can hear the sea otters or sea lions (not sure which) barking from the backyard. I can’t recommend it more highly.

  • Awesome experience, location is amazing, and Jason is a great host.

  • Jason is a super host who takes care of business. Very attentive to your needs, easy to get along with, makes you feel like family. Highly recommend.

  • Jason and his house was wonderful. Host was kind and thoughtful. So I could feel comfortable in his house. Jason made me comfortable and helped me enjoy Monterey's life. And the house was always clean because Jason is tidy person. ^^ This U.S.A. visit was first time. But I could stay at his house without any difficulty. If I have a chance to visit Monterey one more time, I would like to use his house again. ^^

A previous guest from Boston said it all: “Felt like a home away from home! Loved walking into this comfy cottage after a day stomping out and about! The kitchen had everything we needed, including a toaster oven, microwave, full size fridge, and a range with a really large oven. Dish TV offered plenty of viewing choices, but the deep quiet of Carmel at night was even better. A huge tree outside overhang the skylight in the middle of the cottage, lending to the cottage atmosphere. The bed was wonderfully comfortable with the memory foam topper, and we slept like babies. The Rio Grill (fabulous food and atmosphere) is only half a mile away, as are CVS and a huge 24 hour Safeway, if needed. Would love to go back!”
Quiet street, only people who live here drive by. No other traffic.
  • The place is great and the description is accurate. What you don’t see in the photos are the great energy you feel. Would recommend.

  • A super location for viewing Carmel and enjoying the beautiful coastline. It was a delight to look forward to going to our cozy ‘home’ everyday after our tourist wanderings!

  • What a great hidden gem! From the beginning, Grant was so timely with his responses and the directions on how to enter his place were spot on. Loved the motion detector lights to the studio, it helped us feel so comfortable! When we looked around we found the studio to be very well appointed, so clean and inviting! The place was a perfect getaway and SO close to Ocean Ave and 17 Mile Drive. Thank you so much to Grant and his family for a wonderful 3 night stay.

    Stacey2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, very close to all you might want to see and do in Carmel. The neighborhood where Grant's place is located could not be nicer. The studio is cute as can be and extremely comfortable. The kitchenette is perfect for a quick meal, we picked stuff up at the near by Safeway and whipped up light breakfast and take out lunches. Grant has thought of everything in this little studio, nice touches that make this place feel like home. Highly recommend staying here, and in fact we will book here again when we return to Carmel.

  • Beautiful space with tons of natural light, and welcoming, homey feel. The little private patio is perfect for a morning cup of coffee, watching b the sun filter in through the trees that surround the property. Communicating with Grant was a breeze and very friendly. The guest house was clean and cozy. There is easy parking right in front of the house, and it's a quick drive to both beautiful beaches and delicious restaurants. Definitely hope to stay on the comfy king bed next time I visit Carmel!

    Dylan2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed for an extended weekend and Grant's place was perfect for our needs. There is a delightful private outdoor patio space where you can enjoy the stars at night or take in the fresh air during the day. The location was very convenient for our explorations (hiking at Lobos Point, 17 mile drive and the Monterey Aquarium.) Highly recommend.

The space is lovely and quiet with everything you need. The location is great. We walked to Carmel Beach and into town. Highly recommend it!

  • Jason's was my first-ever AirBnB. Jason came through for the concept & service & for his particular offerings with flying colors. He did so despite this being a rather challenging time for him personally, in that he was finishing up the last requirements for some new credentials he was pursuing, and those took significant time. They had forced him to stop in the middle of a bathroom remodel, but he had -- "of course," I would like to say, but in fact it's not necessarily "of course" for all possible hosts, so it still reflects positively on Jason -- taken steps to ensure the usability of the bathroom during the remodel, and neither I nor any of the other four guests with whom I at various times shared the bathroom ever had any complaints that I heard of (or voiced). So as he exits that program, I am sure that he'll up the ante on that remodel, as he is a "maker" in current 2k-twenties lingo. Jason can size up guests, to give each one differentiated recommendations for brunch, most suitable gym, etc. So your host, Jason, will be helpful & considerate & flexible. There are rules for the place, but they're applied fairly and with advance notice, & they're not in any way onerous. They're for the good of all. I actually turned down a very _cost-effective_ lease (for a successor place to Jason's AirBnB) because I wasn't positive how the social dynamics of a home shared by 8 people would work out. But in Jason's place, with three guests at any given time, plus Jason, the kitchen remained perfectly acceptable and shareable, and use of the living room, media display, etc. all was positive in all respects, without contention about noise, whose movie first, etc. As to location, my own expectations were perhaps out of line, in that I'd hoped for a slightly shorter walk to DLI's Franklin Street gate. But AirBnB has its reasons for giving only a radius, not an exact address, & that's OK. For someone at CHOMP, it would be much more walk-able. But in fact, it WAS walkable to DLI -- just perhaps not as much in Monterey's "winter" (yeah, yeah, I'm being spoiled here, since my home is in Minnesota) as at other seasons. Still, the fact is that work aside, I DID often walk down to the beach, and along the beach to the lighthouse, and back -- so in that respect, it's a great location. And my references to walking as a criterion are probably a Midwestern boy's bias, since most people don't walk anywhere anymore. If you're driving, environment be damned, you're close to anything at all from Jason's: Carmel, PG, Monterey, it's all good. In some other season or some other circumstances, I'd have taken more advantage of Jason's generous sharing of the deck and grill & so forth, but the bottom line is that anything that I didn't try cooking at Jason's was because of me, not him. And I think it's a definite positive that Jason's place can offer you the possibility of making acquaintances with the guest(s) in two other locations at any given time: giving you a little social introduction to the peninsula along with your living arrangements.

    Michael2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • Jason is a fantastic host, same with his property. He is courteous and quick with responses and help, including tips around the area. On top of that, he is just a cool, interesting guy. I stayed in his room upstairs, with the private half bath. I highly recommend this room, and greatly enjoyed my 5 weeks with this house and all of the great roommates, both male and female. I'd love to stay again!

    Ward2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I stayed at Jason's place during a three-month summer internship and it was great for both work and travel. Though we didn't have a car, the public transportation system in Monterey was easy enough to navigate with the help of Google Maps. Several different bus stops are within walking distance, and the MST buses are cheap, timely, and convenient. Would definitely stay here again if we come back, and I would recommend booking early.

    Allison2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jason is very accommodating and incredibly nice. He makes great conversation and is very attentive to his guests. He always makes sure we're well taken care of and takes the extra step to ask if there's anything extra that we may want or need. Super great host!

Clementine Cottage is available for a minimum of 30 nights. From the moment the French doors swing open you're in for a treat. You have entered a private space filled with color and light, fully furnished, and cozy to the maximum, with its own private entrance. We're centrally-located to beach, Fisherman's Wharf, Aquarium, downtown, Cannery Row, Carmel. Please note room accommodates two adults and is not set up for children or pets.
We welcome our international guests. Clementine "cottage" shares a common wall with the rest of the house, yet it has a separate, private entrance and provides all the comfort and relaxation needed to start each day refreshed and ready for fun. It feels like a charming cottage. Complete privacy. Go around the right side of the house and find the French doors that open into your private bedroom. Inside you will find a bathroom with walk-in shower, convenience nook, and walk-in closet/study with window. The closet/study has a clothing rack and contains a table and chair where you can sit quietly next to a desk-level window for laptop work in a quiet space. The queen-sized bed, topped with a three inch memory foam mattress, is so comfortable, supportive yet soft enough to cradle your contours for a restful night's sleep. If more warmth is needed, the cozy fireplace heater will send out infrared heat. Antique dressers and lamps are charming and utilitarian. Original oil paintings hang on each wall, and change throughout the year for variety. Many are local scenes, including The Monterey Customs House, The Wharf in Monterey, the Pacific Grove coastline carpeted with florescent purple rosea mesembryanthemum. The white tiled walk-in shower is spacious and light, with skylight directly above showering area. Towels, shampoo and soap are provided. The bathroom heater makes for a pleasant and nurturing experience. The convenience nook holds a microwave, mini-fridge, toaster, electric water kettle, and coffeemaker, making it convenient for an in-room meal.
This is an old, established neighborhood and the neighbors are quiet, kind, and considerate. We are close to a lakeside bird sanctuary. See photos. Within walking distance is the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail. Follow it for a lovely walk to downtown Monterey, a little over a mile away. Or walk over to the nearby beach and get grand views of the Monterey Bay. You can even walk to Monterey on the beach. Get away from everything. Bicycles can be rented in Monterey at Bay Bikes (486 Washington and at American Tin Cannery Antique Mall, 585 Cannery Row). Adventures by the Sea (210 Alvarado Street) Sights A multitiude of sights can be reached quickly from our location. There is Point Lobos, 17 Mile Drive, Big Sur, Carmel, The Monterey Peninsula Aquarium, and Cannery Row, just to name a few. Eating Places A local weekly paper with restaurant and cafe listings, as well as entertainment venues, will be available in your room. Hidden Treasures Not only will you find historical landmarks and world renowned forest and coastlines, a number of little treasures unmarked by tourist maps or pamphlets are also scattered throughout the area. One of our favorite coffee shops is Acme Coffee in Seaside. They roast their own coffee and provide interesting combinations for your taste. You'll always find an eclectic crowd gathered discussing the latest news, catching up with friends, visiting from around the world and just plain enjoying. Maybe you'll see Carrie the local crochet artist displaying her unique hats and gloves for sale. Lake Laguna Grande is just a few blocks away. A walk around the lake takes about fifteen minutes and in that time you may see families playing, ducks and geese floating in the water, a heron standing perfectly still in the reeds, wild berries in the summertime. We are just a few blocks from the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, the route of the old Southern Pacific railroad. This paved path stretches 18 miles from the farming village of Castroville in the north to quaint old hometown Pacific Grove to the south. This runner and bike friendly paved path winds past many Monterey attractions along the waterfront, including giant sand dunes, Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, beaches, parks, historic sites and Downtown Monterey. Several local businesses offer bicycle, kayak, surf, paddle board, in-line skate and surrey rentals along the path. You will delight at every mile, enjoying scenic vistas and wildlife viewing, including harbor seals, sea otters, sea lions, birds and sometimes even whales! Walk, run, or bike to downtown Monterey and other famous local attractions. So easy.
  • I had a wonderful 2 months in Cathy and Robert’s place. I loved the location. I liked how it was so close to the highway 1 entrance. It’s right at the edge of Monterey and Seaside. I think I ended up eating most of my meals in Seaside. The place is private and at the back of Cathy and Robert’s house. You get a private entrance through the backyard. It’s very spacious and had plenty of room to hang up and store my things. The bathroom is ADA compliant so the shower is big but is in the same area as the toilet. There’s a large curtain that pulls all the way around the shower area. It takes some getting used to. Eventually I found the best angle to point the shower head to minimize the amount of water that got close to the toilet. Cathy and Robert were very responsive and friendly. Whenever I had any problems or needed refills in some of the amenities, they were quick to respond. This place was definitely a great place to stay in Monterey!

  • Cathryn and Robert are the best hosts anyone could ask for. They made everything so easy and were very easy to talk to in case I needed anything. Robert's paintings made the space extra special too, and more than once he dropped off some freshly baked bread for me (it was delicious!). I had a wonderful stay and recommend Cathryn and Robert's place for anyone looking to stay in the area.

  • Robert and Cathy are THE BEST Airbnb hosts on the planet. They have become family. The cottage is wonderful in every way, and I cannot wait to come back sometime in the near future. Book without hesitation!!

  • The cozy cottage is a great place to live! We stayed there for more than two months and had a great time! The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is small but you have everything to cook a great meal! We also enjoyed the small terrace in the morning, with some coffee and the best bread from our host Robert. Thank you!

  • I stayed at Cathy and Robert’s place for two months and thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The room had a private entrance as described and I stayed warm while I was there. I didn’t cook, but they have plenty of cooking appliances available for use. The bed was comfy, the sheets were very soft, and everything about it felt like home. Also, their home is close to so many local spots! Downtown Monterey, the aquarium, and Carmel are all about a 15 min drive. You can also walk to the park in the neighborhood. Cathy and Robert were very generous hosts! And they make the most amazing sourdough bread! I highly recommend this Airbnb.

    Amy2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I start?? Cathy and Robert are HANDS DOWN the best, kindest, and most gracious Airbnb hosts I've ever had the chance to encounter. After a month in their wonderful cottage, I feel they've become part of my family. From Cathy's extraordinary fresh baked sourdough breads to the wonderful walks and talks the three of us shared, I won't ever forget my month at Clementine Cottage, and simply cannot wait to return soon!

  • Awesome stay! And the hotel was so kind! They found out I was traveling as a nurse to assist in Washington during this pandemic and upgraded my room and waived the pet fee! Amazing hospitality and service!

  • Beautiful location, but the rooms are a bit outdated. Nothing beats the ocean view though. Overall, we would stay again.

    Meckenzie2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place was exactly what we were looking for. We were on the beach and our room overlooked the beach and ocean. There is a bar inside with a happy hour and a glass wall to enjoy the ocean view. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful. It seems like an older building, but it was perfect for us!!!

    Deborah2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place right in front of the sea

  • This location was amazing. The lobby view was perfect and falling asleep to the sound of waves will always keep me coming back!

    Kristina2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The room we had was absolutely outstanding! Close parking, comfy bed, and best of all a full ocean view! We woke up and were able to walk directly onto the beach with our pups for sunrise a few steps away from our room. Room service was super yummy and lots of local places nearby to grab breakfast. Crema was a great brunch find!

  • Spotlessly clean, thoughtful amenities, and cozy bed. Best sleep I've had in an AirBnB. Bed was so comfortable. Jim makes sure you have everything you need and offers breakfast in the morning on weekends. I'm bummed I didn't have time this trip, but I will definitely stay with him on my next trip.

    Shaunna2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a perfect stay for a night. Jim was a great host and had so many nice accommodations in the room.( like water and first aid kits). He also made me tea and dumplings in the morning!

    Courtney2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was very accommodating and we enjoyed our stay.

    Colin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was hospitable and accomodating. Room was clean, and stocked with helpful small items. The bed and bedding were very comfy.

  • If you are a low maintenance travel- book now! He let us park in the driveway. The room was more spacious than anticipated which was a plus. My fiancé and I had plenty of space to lay our suitcases wide open at the same time. They had waters and tissues which came in handy. Highly recommend and the dumplings and tea were a huge cherry on top!

    Xio2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jim and Helen were incredibly warm and inviting. The space was comfortable and very easy to check in and out of. We were blown away by how accommodating they were—and the warm, delicious dumplings the morning we departed were literally the highlight of our trip to Monterey!

    John2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a wonderful three day at Jim's place while visiting Carmel and Monterey. It's very convenient and a great value with many less expensive dining options nearby too. The room is spotlessly clean with several bottles of water as well. The bathroom, also very clean, is just steps down the hall and was private for us. There is a space heater in the room which made it very cosy and warm. Jim and his family are extremely friendly and welcoming, we loved the dumplings he made us for breakfast!
