Places to stay in Big Sur
Our quaint, thoughtfully-stocked 300 sq ft cottage is located steps from the ocean (5 min walk), yet tucked away behind our home, affording guests ample privacy, easy parking and all the amenities of home. Sip wine on the patio after a day of adventures while listening to the surf, and sleep soundly on our new king Saatva eco-hybrid mattress.
Our 1 bed/1 bath, studio-style cottage is offered fully furnished with kitchenette, organic fair trade coffee, selection of teas, and high quality organic breakfast items provided. If you have food allergies or dietary limitations of any kind, please let us know in advance, we're happy to accommodate you! Please note: we recently gutted the kitchenette and it now has 2 gas burners for cooking, a sink, and fridge. Due to the small space and limited availability of petite-sized appliances, we no longer have an oven or freezer. In place of an oven, we've just added a well-rated Breville countertop oven, which is large enough to roast a turkey, make a pizza, or do a little baking, should the mood strike. However, if you plan to do a lot of cooking during your stay, you’ll likely prefer to seek out a property with a full-sized kitchen. Hundreds of tv channels On Demand shows and movies Secured Wifi Charming private patio Complimentary toiletries Iron/ironing board Hair dryer All linens included Dishes, pots, pans, + oil, spices, etc. Organic coffee/sugar/half & half Eco Friendly "Luxury Firm" King mattress Beach chairs & beach towels provided Pet Friendly* *PET POLICY: Well-behaved pets are welcome - we are dog lovers! However, based on over 9 years of hosting experience, we now charge a $25 cleaning fee for pets over 15 lbs, or multiple pets. This is not collected up front (via Airbnb) - you can pay the cleaning fee during your stay. (Our policy is too specific for us to build it into our Airbnb fee collection.) The cottage comfortably sleeps 2. If your party is larger (i.e. a 3rd person, or a child) please contact us in advance to discuss arrangements, we can stash a twin air mattress or Pack 'n Play and extra linens in the closet prior to your arrival. Location: 5 minute walk to Asilomar State Beach, Asilomar Conference Ctr, and the recreation trail (Bring your binoculars - almost guaranteed sightings of otters and seals, and lately, whale spouts!) 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive to downtown Pacific Grove (On Monday afternoon/evenings there is a fantastic little Farmers Market) 10 minute drive to Oldtown Monterey/Wharf Approximately 3 miles from Cannery Row/Monterey Bay Aquarium Less than 1 mile from the 17 mile drive gates into Pebble Beach 1/3 mile from Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course 20ish minute drive to Carmel Valley/Wine Country 30ish minute drive to INCREDIBLY scenic Big Sur Bring your bicycles - our mild climate and stunning scenery make the Monterey Peninsula an ideal spot to explore on 2 wheels. We *LOVE* hosting Airbnb guests - making friends from around the world, and close to home. Whether you opt to stay with us, or elsewhere, I'm confident you'll enjoy your trip to the stunning Monterey Peninsula. You should know a couple things.... 1. We are a pet-friendly property - if you suffer from pet allergies you should know there may have been a guest pup in the cottage prior to your reservation. Though we do clean the cottage thoroughly between guests, it is likely that allergens are still present. Ultimately - we want you to be comfortable, therefore we *STRONGLY* discourage booking if you have pet allergies - there are so many lovely options in the area and most are not pet-friendly. 2. Approximately once per week (usually Friday mornings) we have our weekly yard service. Sometimes the maintenance is relatively quiet (raking, trimming, etc.) and sometimes the situation is far more noisy (leaf blowers, weed wackers, fence repair, and the like). 3. Finally.... Our calendar is updated daily and is indeed accurate. If the dates you want are not available it is because they're already booked by another guest. I'm not sure how everyone plans so far in advance, but it is not unusual for us to be booked 8+ months in advance.
Hands down, the best part about our 'hood is the proximity to the ocean. You can (usually) hear it, and smell it from our house, and see its amazing beauty within a brief walk. On a clear night, the sunsets are breathtaking.

Stay in our Carmel Rustic Cabin along with your FurKid (see dog fee below) while shopping, visiting local wineries and restaurants or just walking your dog off-leash along Carmel's white sandy beach. Hidden in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities and minutes from downtown and the beaches. FYI the coast drive is now accessible between here and LA, but may be shut down during stormy weather, so be sure to follow local weather reports or just call Caltrans.
You'll find our Rustic Cabin like a Treehouse is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable and Cozy (250 sq ft). PLUS, the cabin is very quiet, very private, and equipped with a small "kitchenette," super high-speed WIFI for streaming and cable TV. We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido, but PLEASE NOTE . . . we are now charging $25 extra for one to two small to mid-size dogs. Dog surcharge will be added after you've booked. We also ask that you bring the appropriate dog bedding as well as food and water dishes. Deer and other wild animals are often around at night, so don't be spooked if your dog decides to growl a bit. Even squirrels will set our dogs off. We provide coffee and tea to get you started in the morning. No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot, toaster, and dishes - all ideal for take out. You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you. For those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously. Also, because we're located in the woods, pollens may be a problem for you as well. If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.
The cabin is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood facing the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy adjacent to Pescadero, a little used road where neighbors like to walk their dogs, or where cyclists test their strength on a grueling hill full of switchbacks. Want to look out on the forest? Want to watch birds whiz by with squirrels nearby? You can, yet we're so close to town, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the post office. Also, you might like to know Carmel has been voted one of the Top Ten Dog Friendly places in the country. WOOF! So, bring your dog. Please check the CALENDAR tab above to determine whether we've been booked.
  • This was our second stay at Tom's place, and we were so happy to return. We were able to stay a bit longer this time, and enjoyed more time on the small patio and in town which is very close. It was quiet and peaceful, and a great location for us and the dogs! We are already hoping to return again!

    Angela2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy little cabin in the trees. This was a very peaceful spot and we really enjoyed our stay here. Sitting on the balcony with a beer after a long drive was delightfully relaxing. Close to everything Carmel has to offer, but just enough off the beaten track. All in all, a great find.

    Judy2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this trip as a short get-away from the hustle-and-bustle of the Bay Area and demanding jobs. Tom's place was exactly what we needed. It is a quiet neighborhood not far from downtown but far enough to offer peace and tranquility; it was the best of both worlds. The cabin itself is on a hillside down some steps from the main house. It is very private and surrounded by lush trees and plants. There is a cute little deck facing down the hill to enjoy coffee and snacks. The cabin offers basic amenities, which is all we needed, including a very comfy bed. It was very clean and quaint. Tom is very kind and a great host. We love this place and can't wait to return!

    Victoria2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great and cute accommodation. You have to go down some stairs in Order to reach the housing but Tom installed some lights which makes it very easy to find. We enjoyed our stay.

    Jessica2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very rustic and charming place surrounded by nature. Friendly host. Close proximity to center of town. A bit small but we just needed a place to sleep so it was perfect. Highly recommended and would love to come back again.

    Huey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tom’s cabin was great! Parking was easy. The step to the cabin were sturdy. The cabin itself was clean and everything worked as expected. The town is 5 minutes drive from the cabin, where there’s lots to do!

    Pradeep2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Tom’s awesome cabin. We had a great time, look forward to coming back :)

    Kyle2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was lovely. It overlooks trees and a creek and there is nothing h like waking up to that view. It’s very peaceful and quiet yet a 5 min drive to town. It’s cozy and warm, everything you would want for a get away, particularly considering that they are pet friendly. We love our stay and highly recommend it!

Wake to an ocean view from a King sized bed, with seals barking and birds singing. Enjoy the granite walk-in shower w/sky window. Dance to the vinyl collection, hang in the exotic succulent gardens and enjoy the CA/Zen blend… magical and peaceful.
Welcome to California Dreaming Suite. Wake up to an ocean view right from your bed and enjoy the sound of the morning birds singing. Fall asleep to the sound of the seals barking under a star filled sky. And you will sleep well on the king-size organic wool/latex mattress... it has been named the most comfortable bed in the world by numerous guests! Enjoy your private entrance/suite/shower with a sky window that opens to the warmth of the sun. If you feel like dancing, enjoy the eclectic vinyl collection with everything from Miles Davis to The Tubes. Does this sound too good to be true? Nope, it's really that great! California Dreaming is an eco-friendly private suite with natural cork flooring, bamboo, shoji, recycled granite, and non-toxic paint. It is a Dwell-inspired, eclectic blend of Japanese Zen and California design overlooking the garden, trees and the Pacific Ocean - a truly magical, romantic, fun space. This is a relaxed coastal "locals" experience. Stay in and rest or venture out into the wild. Whatever you feel like doing, I am happy to help with suggestions for everything from the best hikes to the best food. Please note I am a five star cleaner and am now using disinfecting sprays and wipes with every clean, so you can have a worry free stay. I want you to have a wonderful time while you're my guests. I have lived in Pacific Grove for 16 years and am happy to help you create a memorable, lovely holiday. Coastal walks, white sand beaches, best local restaurants and music, best free parking and favorite Monterey Bay Aquarium exhibits, rugged Big Sur hikes, etc... What are you waiting for? PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ONE NIGHT RESERVATIONS WITHOUT ASKING IN ADVANCE. I rarely accept one night reservations on weekends or accept one night reservations more than a week or two (depending on season) in advance or if there is an empty night between bookings. Note pricing varies according to seasons, weekends and special events. I have an awesome 19 year old three-legged blind, deaf dog named Zeus and we both love having furry friends visit. I accept pets at my discretion (please tell me about your pup when you book) and there is a $35 pet fee payable on arrival. I have a leash only rule in the back gardens because they are full of exotic, fragile succulents and prickly cactus. Also, please pick up after your pup and use designated areas in garden. CA Dream Suite has both a California King size bed and twin bed. I accept up to three people. There is a $45 fee per person, after two people. I offer coffee and a selection of teas. Wi-fi is strong indoors and outside. Outdoor garden patio with deck chairs and a picnic table. All linens and towels included. Please note... I do NOT iron the cotton bed sheets. They are clean but may be wrinkled. Garage with washer and dryer and room for your bicycle, golf clubs, surfboard or extra stuff, upon request. Trader Joe's and Safeway grocery stores are 2 minutes away, Whole Foods is 10 minutes away. I have a thorough manual that comes with booking, but here are some basic local Activities (please note activities within Pacific Grove, Monterey, Pebble Beach and Carmel-By-The-Sea are within a five to ten minute drive) Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf Asilomar State Beach and coastal trail/boardwalk. Surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, bike riding, whale watching. Sunrise from Lovers Point Park or Sunset from Asilomar Beach. Big Sur, Point Lobos hiking, Esalen, Wine tasting in Carmel Valley Dining Out (we have a long list of favorites). Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Carmel, 17 Mile Drive. Pebble Beach/AT&T golf. Tip: Pacific Grove Muni back nine ocean course is considered the “Poor Man’s Pebble” at $35 after 3:00pm. Monterey Jazz Festival, Laguna Seca car/motorcycle races, Sea Otter Bicycle Classic, Concours d'Elegance car show. Great spas, discount for local massage (massage can even be in the bungalow so you don't have to drive) Pacific Grove monarch butterfly sanctuary. Public transportation nearby. Weather: Summer is coastal fog and sunny. Fall is our Indian Summer – our best weather. Winter is the local's season – sometimes crystal clear and moderate, sometimes with great storms, big waves and no tourists. Spring is a little bit of all of the above, sometimes windy and lots of flowers in the garden! Legal and licensed rental: In order to accept reservations and host guests, the City of Pacific Grove requires that we possess a transient use license. Airbnb will collect transient occupancy taxes from each of our guests, and this amount is calculated separately. City of Pacific Grove Transient Use License #0390. Please note this space is marketed as private space but because it is attached to the main house, it is permitted as a room share. This is unique and important since May 2020, only owner occupied residences will be legal in Pacific Grove. If you book a place that isn't owner occupied (unless coastal commission) after May 2020 it will be shut down by the city of Pacific Grove. Be careful what you book!
This is a safe, serene neighborhood with lots of really nice people. My neighbors love Airbnb due to considerate guests. There are a lot of small children in the neighborhood so DRIVE 10 MPH in cul-de-sac. Thanks! Make sure you have read instructions and are clear exactly where to park. Neighborhood peace is a really cool thing..
  • Sarah was a wonderful host. So friendly and had the best recommendations. Place was comfy, very clean, and stocked with all you need for a kitchen and bathroom. Highly recommend!

  • Beautiful and convenient location for exploring a lovely little sea side town. Just a short drive to Big Sur , which is simply gorgeous . Thoughtful touches , spotless, with a gorgeous view. As a record collector I very much enjoyed waking up in the morning and putting on a record. Would absolutely visit again .

    Koty2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah’s place is in a very convenient location between Monterey and Carmel with a quiet and private space simultaneously. It is comfortable with a nice view and outdoor space. The shower and record player were both unique and fun aspects of the stay!

    Julie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A very pretty studio is a very pretty location. Had everything we needed. Wonderful garden for sitting outside. The host has detailed suggestions for local tourism, which was very thoughtful.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Had high hopes for this stay and they were realized! Sarah is great and her place is adorable. She was filled with local tips that were right on - we loved meandering around Pacific Grove (“PG”), Monterey and Carmel - and we had a wonderful road trip to Big Sur. Julia’s for dinner; Lover’s Point for sunrise, Aquarium anytime. You’ll love it! We had a wonderful mother-daughter weekend. Highly recommend.

    Amy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very personable while mindful of boundaries, meticulous without being obsessive , gracious and a wealth of local knowledge. Couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.

    Linda2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend Sarah’s “California Dreaming” Bungalow. An amazing location with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Conveniently located for access to the many Pebble Beach area golf courses and the Monterey Bay.

    Richard2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time in beautiful Monterey Bay! The aquarium, cannery row, and old fisherman's wharf were about a 10 minute drive away from the airbnb. The space itself was clean and cozy. We loved waking up to the ocean view and having tea by the window or hanging out in the zen garden. We also enjoyed the record selection! My husband really enjoyed the shower with the sunroof because it felt like we were showering in the forest haha! We slept really well during our trip because the space was free from any distractions. Miss Sarah was so accommodating and a generous host that we won't hesitate recommending or booking with her again!:)

This charming historic studio was once owned by American author John Steinbeck. It's been featured in several articles including “20 Romantic AirBnB Getaways”, “Get Cultured While You Sleep at These AirBnBs That are Historical Landmarks” and in Airbnb Magazine's June/July 2019 edition. As of May 27, 2020, there is a 30-night minimum stay for this cottage. Special rates will apply - 65% off the daily rate and no city occupancy tax.
Currently, there is construction at our next door neighbor's house. The work is being done Monday - Friday during the day. Please be aware that there will be some noise during the day. 'I bought a small house and garden in Pacific Grove...' (John Steinbeck: A Life in Letters). American author John Steinbeck wrote these words to a friend about this charming house he called home in the 1940s. This cozy studio retreat has one bedroom with a queen bed and and a sitting area, a spacious full bathroom, and a fully stocked kitchen. There is cable TV and wireless internet. The studio is approximately 350 square feet. It is original 1920's architecture and has short doorways throughout the studio. Taller guests will need to mind their heads passing through entry-ways. It is one of three cottages on the property and has a unique and rich literary history, having belonged to John Steinbeck in the early 1940's. He used it as his writing studio and worked on novels including The Sea of Cortez while living here. It has been renovated to pay homage to the period and history of the property. It has a masculine and sophisticated, yet romantic feel.
The property is in a quiet residential neighborhood in Pacific Grove. It offers plenty of street parking. As for the city, Pacific Grove has been called “Butterfly Town U.S.A.,” “The Most Romantic City in the U.S.,” “A Dreamy California Destination, ” as well as an idyllic place to get married, to honeymoon or to just hang out. Some of it is self-proclaimed, some the acclaim of people who have actually visited Pacific Grove. You will find Pacific Grove on the very tip of the scenic, tree-shrouded Monterey Peninsula with a rocky coastline and an ambiance of charm, grace and beauty. Founded in the 1870s as a Methodist summer retreat, Pacific Grove still bears the look and feel of yesteryear. As you stroll the residential streets admiring the charm of home after home, you will notice little plaques on many of the homes that bear the name of the original owner and the year in which it was built. To qualify for a plaque from the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove, a structure must look like it did when it was originally built. Among its visitors are brightly colored orange-and-black Monarch butterflies, who overwinter in Pacific Grove after traveling up to 2,000 miles, arriving by the thousands starting in October, peaking around Christmas and departing by March. Besides its scenic beauty and idyllic neighborhoods, Pacific Grove offers an eclectic downtown experience, with small boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, antique stores and more. Other vibrant shopping areas are along Central Avenue at the entrance to Pacific Grove from Cannery Row and at the top of Forest Avenue on Forest Hill.
  • Such a wonderful stay in this historic cottage! I highly recommend this to literature buffs and anyone wanting to explore the area.

  • We had a lovely stay in the Writers Studio. Everything we needed to be comfortable was close at hand. We loved the decor and we were just a short downhill walk to many restaurants and activities. I would definitely stay again. Communication was always quick, friendly and easy. Thanks again Kevin and Vicky 🤩

  • The Steinbeck Writing Studio is a MUST DO for any John Steinbeck reader/fan. Even if you aren’t a Steinbeck fan, the studio is a perfect quiet retreat for an individual or couple. It has an eclectic charm that makes you feel so cozy and comfortable, that you’ll want to curl up and read all day. The location is fantastic and very walkable. We walked all over Pacific Grove, Cannery Row and Monterey. We never drove the car once after we arrived. Kevin and Vicky were very responsive and thoughtful hosts. We would highly recommend the studio to anyone! 5 stars all day!

    Blake2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in the Steinbeck cottage. Easy check-in, and close to the many attractions and restaurants the Monterey peninsula offers.

    Hunter2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place was wonderful, centrally located, good access to parking, great Wi-Fi, and all the charm we could handle.

    Bill2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an AirBnb you will absolute want to book. Every single detail you could want or think to put into a place Kevin and Vicky did. A book full of tips, suggestions, and reviews of different places around town. The perfect location to access those places as well as a perfect cottage to retreat to after the long day. I loved reading why other people had come to the cottage with the journal left for guests to write in. The place itself was spotless and stocked full of all the things that make you feel at home. I really couldn’t of wanted more or had a better time staying at this AirBnb. Thank you guys again so much!

    Christina2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Not just a historical delight but an adorable and highly functional space. Excellent communication and zero complications or issues! We would enthusiastically stay again. Thank you!

Residential neighborhood so we are removed from the main dining and shopping scene, 1.5 miles from beach, 3 miles from downtown, Bay views
  • We almost felt home in this cosy house. Great breakfast, very nice location, super great hosts. They gave us a lot of valuable information about the neighbourhood and places to visit. Most of all, they help us getting an early flight back home during this difficult time (covid19).

    Léo2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Seaside was the 2nd stage of our roadtrip after San Francisco. The house is ideally located, in a very calm and impeccably clean environment. Annemarie and Jesse are in perfect hospitality. In addition Annemarie speaks French, which can be very useful when our English vocabulary is limited. We will not hesitate to return on a future trip.

    Jean-Jacques2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • If you're still reading this review and deciding whether or not to book here - BOOK HERE! Do it! Annemarie and Jesse are such wonderful hosts. Their house and garden is absolutely charming. The breakfast was delicious. Just a short drive to everything you want to see in the area. Hope to stay again!

    Betsy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay in the Monterey area. But what made it truly special was our time at Annemarie and Jesse's lovely home. They were easy going and helpful in every way and made our journey even that more pleasurable.

    Michael2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Feels like home :) My favorite place to stay in Seaside. I keep coming back and can't get enough. Thank you, Annemarie, Jesse and Jocelyne!

    Katieann2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended - beautiful historic house with wonderful hosts, wonderful gardens, great breakfast in the morning. Always a pleasure to stay here!

    Briar2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, tranquil, must-stay experience. Annemarie, Jesse and Jocelyne think of everything, and I feel so cared for, body and soul, when I stay here (I'm a happy repeat customer, I've stayed here multiple times on my visits to Monterey). The inn feels like a home - inviting fireplace in the living room in the evenings, nourishing and tasty breakfast in the dining room in the mornings, and many cozy spots to sit in the garden, relax, meditate, whatever you need. The inn is centrally located - close to the bay, Big Sur - so you can go out if you like, or you can completely relax in this cozy spot. This room is particularly lovely- giant bed, writing desk, chairs to relax in, and a distant view of the water. Thank you for a lovely stay, I can't wait to visit again!

It is true that "The Retreat" was once a shed (never used as one)! It has a "Queen bed", a bathroom/ shower, microwave and refrigerator! Snacks, waters, coffee and / or tea are available! Featuring 90% green electric energy (solar panels)!! Monterey is only 25 minutes away.
There is a gas BBQ near The Retreat for your use! There is a microwave. Dishes and siverware. Laundry is available!
The Retreat is located on a very quiet cul-de-sac!
  • Aptly named, this space definitely feels like a retreat! The owners are so kind and the space is quite comfortable. I spent most of my time working so I really enjoyed all the light from the windows and the outdoor space just beckoning me for a yoga sesh :)

  • Very clean and cosy. Nice little kitchen and wonderful outdoor place!

  • A great place at a great value very accommodating and quick to respond to questions and concerns

    Sinjin2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Retreat is a wonderful place! It is cozy and comfortable. There were dishes and silverware we used to eat dinner in, which was a nice and relaxing bonus. Some granola bars and coffee were also provided. The location is convenient to both downtown Salinas and for a trip out to Monterey. My girlfriend friend and I really enjoyed our stay. Only possible negative is that the access to the room is through a sliding glass door with no exterior key to lock it if you want to go out and leave valuables in the room.

    Ryan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far our favourite Airbnb experience. What a unique little space. Ted and Edith’s place is beautiful. The room is private, super comfortable and has every thing you can possibly need. It’s separated from the main house by a nice little garden. We loved our stay and actually wanted to stay longer just because we liked the space so much.

    Warda2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed staying at the retreat! It was really convenient to head down to Monterrey and continue on my highway 1 drive. Ted gave a ton of recommendations, and it was really peaceful and quiet in the evenings. I see now why this place is often booked!

    Cameron2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Retreat is a super cute little spot to rest your head while exploring the Monterey Bay Area. Ted and Edith are very hospitable and communicative. Snacks and bottles of water were left out for us, which was much appreciated.

  • GREAT location! In the middle of Monterey and Carmel-By-The-Sea. Nice clean space, and worth the money. Host was quick to respond to any questions as well. We really enjoyed our time here.

  • Great place, great location! Close to Monterey and Carmel and has great beach access. The place was clean and Li was very respectful of our privacy and space!

  • Lu’s place is in such a great location . Right in the gated community of Pebble beach . It’s on 17 mile highway and she provides 2 Monterey Bay Aquarium tickets!

    Kathy2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lu’s place is cosy and peaceful. Lu provided a number of thoughtful touches that made the stay at Pebble beach amazing, such as the lovely aquarium passes! You will also have access to a kitchen as well as washer/dryer; definitely great for long-term travellers. With a car, the place is strategically located so that you’ll be able to explore Monterey sufficiently.

    Nur2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for 2 nights with a friend from college. It was our first time in the area and we loved the location! The aquarium passes were an added treat. Also that we were already in Pebble Beach and could do the 17 mile drive was a fun opportunity. I would definitely stay again, probably for a few extra nights and do some outdoor sports.

    Michelle2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely bookmarking this listing. Lu provides a perfectly cozy spot in a truly special place. 10/10 will return, wish I could buy it and stay forever! (:

  • If you’re looking for a comfortable and cozy spot to stay in near Monterey, look no further than Mark’s Airbnb. 5/5 would recommend. Amazing host and spotless Airbnb.

    Hakim2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Close to downtown Monterey by car.

    John2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay for a short trip!

    Casey2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Mark was very hospitable and his place is nice and quiet. A good room with nice touches for what the cost was to stay there. Also based on his suggestion I had a nice time at a park I was not aware of.

    Matthew2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great stay at Mark's. He is a very conscientious host. Self-check-in instructions were simple, the place was sparking clean, and his description of his listing is spot on.

    Ed2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I had high expectations for my stay from reading previous reviews and Mark did not disappoint! He was thoughtful, kind and his place was spotless. I was in town for the Kyle Cease meditation retreat and Mark’s house offered the quiet reflection spot I needed for a tremendous experience during the retreat.

    Sage2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Easy check-in, very clean room and private bathroom, it seemed to be away from the main part of the house so it was very private and quiet. Mark was home when we checked in and was very polite and showed us around. He offers water, teas, coffee and creamer and has a keurig machine. There is a microwave and mini fridge in the room. TV has Netflix and Amazon. The bed was a little firmer than I’m used to (I like really soft beds) but my husband loved it. There are extra blankets if you get cold. Also, the driveway is very steep, so if you have a very low car (like I do), just go very slow and at an angle. Great host, great place and great location! Thank you!!

    Jacqueline2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mark’s home was perfect for my short business stay. Quiet and a peaceful environment is what I needed and that’s what I got at his place. Nice space, bed and the essential things, such a great value! Would definitely recommend and stay again!

  • Wonderful, comfortable place with great views. We were very relaxed and had a great stay.

    Andrea2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Due to our own booking needs we moved from the downstairs location to the upstairs location halfway through out the stay. Although both locations were outstanding, I would recommend the downstairs location over the upstairs. This unit (upstairs) was nice but the other unit was much more spacious. The view was wonderful and you could see the ocean from the unit. It was so nice waking up to that view! Brian was accommodating and had a grill we could use. We did buy the charcoal and lighter fluid as most people don’t use the grill. Would recommend!

  • Cute place!!! Very cozy and comfortable, close to downtown Monterey...very private and quiet...off street parking and lots of amazing amenities!!! Annie was very welcoming and gave us wonderful suggestions for local dining! Highly recommended!

  • Great place, loooved the decor! It was an excellent fairly short walk to downtown Monterey and we would love to come back next time we’re in town!

  • Annie and jack's place was great! Cozy, great backyard and awesome location for walking to downtown Monterey!

    Kelly2019-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a great place to rest in Monterey, look no more, stay with Annie and Jack! Their place offers privacy and comfort while being accesible from all interest points. We would enjoy the 5-10min drive from every attraction and restaurant we visited. Annie and Jack recommended some great places to eat and sight see. We’ve stayed in tons of places and It’s a pleasure to stay with host who truly enjoy hosting. Annie goes the extra mile. She made some delicious banana bread to have upon our arrival, and during our stay her and Jack made sure to connect with us and our 2 year old. Above all, Annie adds her special touches to the place and you really go without missing any essentials. Shampoo, conditioner, extra towels and blankets, etc. Expect to find coffee, tea and some nuts to snack on. Place is warm on cold nights, and bed is comfy. There’s no TV, but I doubt you’d need one after a whole day of outdoor activities, you will be beat. We stayed three nights and we’d gladly return to their place. Come meet Annie and Jack, you’d be glad you did!

  • This space was a great start to our vacation in Monterey and Big Sur. Annie and Jack were very welcoming and gracious, offering local tips on must-see attractions, and the cottage also felt like our own private getaway. They made it feel very homey with little touches (like a delicious homemade lemon cake waiting of us). Highly recommend!

    Sam2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Annie was an amazing and helpful host, made us feel welcome. Great location and very quiet neighborhood. Her cottage was very clean, private, comfortable with lots of nice amenities. Homemade cookies were excellent and a nice touch. Highly recommend.

    Lucy2019-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cozy place to stay! It is an adorable cottage with its own private gated yard. The house is in walking distance of restaurants, shopping, etc. while also being in a quiet residential area. The hosts made it easy to check in and out and were great about listing places to explore. I will definitely be coming back 💖

    MacKenzie2019-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was a booking made for my Mum and Dad, who were spending a few days in Monterey. Annie and Jack could not have been more friendly, helpful or responsive. And even though their location, just up the hill about 15 minutes' walk from Cannery Row, is already great, they still offered a lift from the Amtrak bus. The studio cottage is really cosy and has everything you need, and there's fantastic collection of music books, pictures and memorabilia to give it a really lively feel. Lovely little place and fantastic hosts!

This gorgeous place on the edge of the world, we call home. We love to share it. Ranch living, Animals and the creative arts, are our passions. We have had guests from all over the world who we are happy to call friends.
Comfortable two bedroom cabin, on a private working ranch with goats, chickens, horses, cows and sheep. House is complete with kitchen, full bath, washer /dryer, and wireless internet. Ocean views from both bedrooms, extra sleeping space in loft. Located in the heart of Big Sur, 1 mile from Big Sur Bakery and 1.5 miles from Pfeiffer state park, very close to Pfeiffer beach.
It is rural, peaceful, and full of the mountain and ocean drama of weather and light, perfect for relaxing or more active exploring.
  • The cottage is fantastic. The views out of this world. Very homely, very comfortable. And feeding the goats was a highlight. A truly unique experience.

  • If you know and love Big Sur you will enjoy this as a one-of-a-kind experience. Our family and friends loved helping out with the animals and appreciated the opportunity to share in this beautiful location. Sarah and Sky and Loki were great hosts. Such great memories were made and we hope to be back soon!

    Jessica2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolute treat! This is a remarkable property with incredibly generous owners offering exceptional hospitality. Our kids got a full farm experience complete with milking goats each morning! The views out to the Pacific are stunning, beds are exceptionally comfortable and the kitchen is well appointed. I loved reading on the deck. The kids loved close up observation of woodpeckers and the loft!

    Heather2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very special place! We've been to Big Sur multiple times but this was by far our best experience. Hidden away in the hills between Highway 1 and the ocean, this cozy cottage is the perfect place to just rest, relax, and take in the stunning views with a glass of wine, which is pretty much all we did the entire week. Our host was very welcoming and we got to enjoy lots of treats from the farm. The Wi-Fi isn't meant for streaming videos but works for everything else. (Seriously, why would anyone want to watch videos out there?) If you really want to experience Big Sur, just sit back and observe. It's one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

    Joachim2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so special. I’ve been to Big Sur multiple times and staying here made me realize I’ve only scratched the surface previously. Stay here if you’d like an authentic view of what it would be like to live here. The location could not be better.

    Kathryn2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Can not recommend enough! Breathtaking views, outstanding hospitality with personal touches and fresh delicious gifts from the farm. Thank you so much!

    Kristyn2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place is truly special, a little gem hiding in the forest but with the most amazing view you can ever imagine. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. We had a lovely time resting, cooking and roaming the property as well as driving into Carmel which is close. Upon arrival there was goats milk and goats cheese in the refrigerator and flowers in every room. We loved it!

Our private detached guest cottage is super charming with its wood burning fireplace, large deck and stunning ocean views. We are a short distance to The Lodge, famous 17 Mile Drive & Seddon Cove. We are located in the exclusive Estate section of Pebble Beach. Centrally located- 5 min to Carmel Beach, 7 min to Carmel, 10 min to Monterey/Pacific Grove, 30 min to Big Sur. Non refundable 7 night booking required for US Open and Concours. Best value in Pebble, walk to Pebble Beach Lodge.
This is a super charming and very private guest cottage, approximately 1000 sq ft, that is fully enclosed by a privacy fence with it's own entry gate located at the back of our nearly one acre Pebble Beach estate. The entire property spans a gently sloping hill that affords beautiful views of the ocean, Point Lobos and Pebble Beach. Pull through our electric gate and up the hill to your own little piece of paradise. The cottage has one very large bedroom with a super comfy king size bed, a fully stocked kitchen (complimentary tea and coffee), full bathroom (shower only- no tub), and washer and dryer. For additional guests (up to 6) there is a full size sofa bed and two twin cots. Private parking next to the cottage for two cars. The cottage has Wi-fi, Apple TV and cable TV. This is truly the best place to stay in the area, and we offer the best value. You won't be disappointed.
We live in the most beautiful and exclusive area of Pebble Beach, surrounded by other beautiful gated estates. We are central to everything, yet it also feels like we are a million miles from civilization. You are a 7 minute drive to Carmel, and 10-12 minutes from Monterey and Pacific Grove. We regularly see deer in our neighborhood, as well as all sorts of other wildlife and birds. The star gazing on a clear night is insanely beautiful, and when the wind is blowing just the right way, you can hear the waves crashing on the beach as you lie in bed or relax on the deck. There are sea lions and otters down at the beaches. Point Lobos is an amazing place to hike and is a short 15 minute drive from us. You can walk to The Lodge as well as a beautiful private beach (about a 20 -30 minute walk down the hill), and we are just a few blocks from the famous 17 mile drive.

  • Diana is a kind host and her cottage is a very special place. I felt relaxed, comfortable, and enjoyed my 5 day trip. Salinas is an adorable old-town, not far from Monterey/Carmel. I had a delicious lunch at John Steinbeck's boyhood home, which is a 10 minute drive from the cottage. I also took a couple lovely day trips to Carmel and Pebble Beach. Highly recommend Diana's place and I hope to come back very soon :)

  • Brian's place was gorgeous. It was exactly what we were looking for and what we needed for a nice, quiet weekend in a beautiful place. The downstairs unit is what we stayed in, which felt like an underground forest castle in a way. The view is not of the ocean, but of all the surrounding plant life. The views of the ocean are just upstairs, however. Also the unit contained a record player and MANY records to play while we were hanging out in the space. Make sure and bring a speaker with you to enjoy it.

    Brad2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I would absolutely recommend staying at this adorable Airbnb in Carmel. Close to Carmel and Monterey, but a secluded getaway perfect for relaxation. Brian also had all the little touches, like water, granola bars, and coffee. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a cozy detached guest cottage in the heart of the estate section of Pebble Beach just a stone's throw from 17 mile drive with fantastic views! Walking distance to the Lodge at Pebble Beach. Non refundable 7 night booking required for US Open and Concours. Best value in Pebble, walk to Pebble Beach Lodge.
Quaint and very spacious detached guest cottage perched atop a hillside with beautiful views of Pebble Beach and the ocean. Amazing sunsets. Lots of bright light and windows that can be opened up to take in the aromatic coastal breezes. Vintage Monterey Pine wood paneling, plush pillow top king size bed, private bath with walk in shower, mini fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee pot and tea kettle. There is a pull out sofa bed and extra linens (in the ottoman) for additional guests. Onsite parking. Close to the Lodge, the Spa and The Beach and Tennis Club, a 7 minute drive to Carmel-by-the-Sea, 10 min to Pacific Grove and Monterey, 20 min to Carmel Valley, 30 min to Big Sur. Free access to 17 Mile Drive. We live in the main residence of this one acre estate. We are available if needed but will respect your privacy as well. We love this area. It is simply the most beautiful and serene place to visit and stay. At night there are no street lights and you can see the stars on clear evenings. It is so peaceful and quiet. You can frequently hear the waves break on the distant beach when you open your windows, and sometimes even hear seals. The sunsets are insanely gorgeous (when it’s not foggy). We see numerous deer and wildlife on our daily walks. The famous 17 Mile Drive is just a few blocks away and is all it is built up to be. Plus we are so close to Carmel-by-the-Sea, with its quaint little shops and restaurants. We are centrally located between Carmel, Pacific Grove and Monterey in a quiet gated community with beautiful private beaches, stunning vistas and sprawling gated estates. What is there not to love? Welcome to Paradise. Taxi and uber service is available, and you can bike to most locations... but honestly, most guests have a car...

Pet-friendly room with run of the house in a large bay-view property close to town. Yes, "run of the house" means you can use the kitchen, dining room, living room, yard, and deck! Since this is only available as a monthly rental, the rate has already been discounted in the base price. Situated in a quiet forest next to town, you’ll love our place because of the seclusion when you want it, and the access when you need it. Walking distance from shopping and restaurants.
Your space is the smaller of the two rooms upstairs in a charming home in the wooded neighborhood of Mar Vista park. Although the bathroom is shared, the other room has a private half bath, which decreases the traffic in the shared bath. Please be aware that this is a traditional owner occupied Airbnb. This is not one of the recent wave of investment properties that are hosted by hired help and managed as a full service hotel. Although the owner makes every effort to prepare the bed and the house for each guest, he supports the B&B alone, has a career, is a full time graduate student, and serves in the military. So outgoing guests are asked to strip the bed and leave the house as clean and tidy as they found it, and there may be times when the owner is called away, and a new guest will have to make their own bed. In other words, even though the house is regularly professionally cleaned, you are not buying concierge service with this room. Instead, you are getting the benefit of a home away from home, and sharing a friendly and cozy house with locals. Expect pets and their shedding, as well as other guests and residents to be about. If you like having a kitchen to use, sipping your coffee in the woods with a view of the bay, sitting by the fire on the deck at night, and meeting interesting people and dogs, this place is for you.. and if it is for you, you know how rare of a thing it is to find.
It is extremely rare to find a large, secluded and quiet wooded property so close to town in Monterey. This place has the best of both worlds. Seclusion when you need it, and access when you want it. We are on the low side of the hill on the outer end toward Carmel; high enough to have a birds eye, but low enough to be accessible.
  • If you love coffee, easy atmosphere, wine, and being around a great host then this is the place for you. I stayed here for months as a travel nurse at CHOMP (only a 4 min drive). The location is perfect and close to grocery stores, the beach, and more. Jason is really accommodating and kind. Easy to communicate with, and readily available. Also animals are more than welcome :) I look forward to staying next time I’m in Monterey.

    Catherine2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jason’s place is a rare find in the world of Airbnb’s. The fact that he cares so much about his guests and their experience coupled with the opportunity to travel with my dogs has been unmatched so far in my travels. My room was comfortable and the shared bath was never a problem even when there were two other people using it. I loved the common area, Felt comfortable cooking in the kitchen; hanging in the living room as well as enjoying the spacious wooded backyard where my dogs were in heaven! The location of Jason’s Airbnb is great. It’s close to Highway 1, downtown Monterey and Carmel. I loved that the whole area is dog-friendly. You will not find a better value.

  • This place is in a very beautiful location! You are super close to everything, yet you still feel like you are enough out of the city to experience more nature. You’ll have the chance to meet other travelers. My dog was very welcome here which made it super easy on me! Jason was quick to respond, and overall I was very happy with my stay :)

    Chyanne2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Jason is just terrific; he’s kind, easy to get along with, very direct, and always accessible. Plus, he’s just a normal, genuine, easy going, fun to be around human being, the kind of person who’s comfortable in their own skin. He’s very thoughtful and accommodating. I appreciate the terrific coffee and biscottis he provides in the morning, and he went the extra mile offering me some Epsom Salts to soak in the bath after I fell and was pretty sore. He has a good eye for and attends to detail, and I find it impressive that such a young man, an obvious talented jack of all trades (skilled remodeler of his house, surfer, mechanic, and other “guy” stuff) does such a outstanding job maintaining his AirBnB home & rooms with such a relaxed poise, an easy finesse, while masking his true worries about soft sheets and towels. Also, he can be counted on to be a good source of info on the Monterey area, knows all the spots, restaurants, shopping, etc. I’m still here and haven’t left yet, and don’t want to. I just switched rooms. I stayed the Master - switched to the littlest room then back to the Master again, so I’ve got a pretty good idea of the layout of the land, and will likely be continuing my stay. There’s a tv with Roku in every room, and his WiFi has been stable and fast. I love to work on my computer out on the deck during the day, and lately I’ve been hanging out on one of two hammocks. Super peaceful. The backyard is huge, fenced, which my two dogs love. It’s quiet, forested, huge trees, and the street above is lovely as well to take the dogs out for a walk. Though you can’t see the ocean, I especially like it at night when I can hear the sea otters or sea lions (not sure which) barking from the backyard. I can’t recommend it more highly.

    Karen2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome experience, location is amazing, and Jason is a great host.

    Joseph2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Jason is a super host who takes care of business. Very attentive to your needs, easy to get along with, makes you feel like family. Highly recommend.

    Gordon2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jason and his house was wonderful. Host was kind and thoughtful. So I could feel comfortable in his house. Jason made me comfortable and helped me enjoy Monterey's life. And the house was always clean because Jason is tidy person. ^^ This U.S.A. visit was first time. But I could stay at his house without any difficulty. If I have a chance to visit Monterey one more time, I would like to use his house again. ^^

  • I really loved this place. Clean, open, comfortable, and Ashley was a wonderful host.

  • Ashley's Cottage was super cozy and one of the most functional Air B & Bs we've stayed in. In fact, we joked that we wish we could move in! The set up of her place is awesome, with a great sized kitchen and a full washer and dryer if needed. Overall, this place had a super great value, was private, and Ashley was very sweet!

    Natalie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It's everything that was posted. The place is a short drive to everything we wanted to do.

    Raphael And Jeannie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little place. I stayed here for a conference rather than at the Embassy Suites, and it was every bit as comfortable and much more reasonably priced.

    Herman2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ashley was a wonderful host. She thought of everything for this little guest house. Check-in was easy with the combination, she has a detailed guidebook, brochures, mirrors, hairdryer, and laundry. The guest house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, close to Monterey and Carmel. In the kitchen, Ashley has thoughtfully provided filtered water. The kitchen is otherwise pretty basic, and works for a quick breakfast or heating leftovers. If you're visiting the area, you must try some of the great local restaurants! Our favorite from this trip was Basil's in Carmel. The aquarium, Pebble Beach, Carmel and other attractions were only 10-20 minutes drive away. This is a great economical place from which to see Monterey bay!

The bed is super comfy, the shower is nice and there are nice natural products to use, a welcoming bottle of white wine in the fridge. Our place is approximately half-way between Carmel and Big Sur villages. You’ll love our location because of the intimate contact with mother nature. It is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (yes, we are pet friendly). Our $25 per person, per night for more than two persons applies only to adults age 15 or older, not to family children under age 15
  • A wonderful unique experience in the magical treehouse. I can’t think of a thing that could make it more special. Probably not like anywhere you have ever stayed before. Charming.

  • Doug and Donna's cabins are the most perfect little getaway. We stayed for two nights with our pups and absolutely adored it. Donna and Doug were hospitable when we arrived, giving us a tour of the property and offering us their passes to the aquarium in Monterey. The bathtub on the deck was a dream and we can't wait to get back to their cozy little slice of paradise!

    Ryan Patrick2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing time, a truly beautiful rental!

    Dustin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is located 3 and a half miles into a very dense and quiet forest and after a short time there you will feel the city poison disappear. Though you'll feel far away from everything and everybody you are only a 12-15 minute drive down to the coast and all that Big Sur and Carmel, etc., have to offer. It has all the kitchen amenities you'll need and the very private and secluded outdoor shower and bathtub on the back deck were surprisingly, a real treat. Go to this cabin. Mike O

  • Overall we had a really awesome, very memorable stay in the redwood forest. Would definitely recommend to others and we'd love to come back. The accommodations were very comfortable, with good quality duvets, sheets & towels... Very comfortable - so glad we stayed for 3 nights - just enough time to help unwind. Close enough to get to Carmel (we were going to do one night there and 2 nights here - but decided to do 3 here - and so glad we did). Just a very peaceful stay. Bring warm clothes if you are staying there in winter. They did have lots of blankets - but it was definitely cold in the morning (we came in February). We also brought food to cook there, and there was a full kitchen available to make dinner. Definitely a place you will remember.

This lighthouse sits on the northernmost tip of the Monterey Bay Peninsula; its beacon has flashed nightly as a guide and warning to ships off the rocky California coast since February 1, 1855. Monarch Butterflies Pacific Grove's status as one of the top Monarch butterfly wintering-over spots has procured it the nickname of "Butterfly Town, USA." If you're fortunate enough to be in Pacific Grove during the fall or winter, you will be witness to one of nature's most incredible spectacles: the annual migration of the Monarch butterflies. Tens of thousands of Monarchs descend on Pacific Grove in October and take up residence in the pines and eucalyptus trees of the Monarch Grove Butterfly Sanctuary. • Fun place. Really appreciated the in-room fireplace during the unexpected cool rain.

  • Pacific Grove has a jewel in this place!

  • Nice place to stay. Essentially completely automated; you don’t see the host at all, and the doors are keyed to you personally for your stay before you arrive. It’s convenient and unique, albeit a little strange with no one there supervising the BnB.

  • Very clean. Nice location for visiting not only PacificGrove, but also Monterey and Carmel!

  • The Pacific Grove Inn was a great home base for the weekend in the Monterey area. Downtown Pacific Grove is just a block down, and the ocean itself is two or three more blocks after that. My brother and I stayed in the Melinda Potter Buck suite, which has one queen bed in the main area and a twin bed in the same room but separated by a door. We were on the second floor, and it should be noted that we were able to hear the water running above us. Didn't bother us too much though. Our room was great: the beds were cozy, there are extra blankets and a small portable heater available if needed, complementary coffee, tea, and wifi. The inn itself is great as well: they offer local tips, literature for those interested in reading up the history behind this inn, and emphasize the importance of relaxing and being device free -- they have a common room and area where guests may intermingle, hang out, play chess or cards, or socialize without the devices... should you choose to. Wi-fi was complementary but it was not great in our room; however, we spent most of our time out and about. The parking lot is small: 12 spaces for cars, and 1 for handicap if I recall correctly. Street parking is available if needed. We anticipated checking in past 8, and they were flexible with our late check-in time by providing papers for us to fill out and sign upon arrival in our room. No breakfast provided here, but that should give you incentive to check out the local eateries!

  • We stayed for two nights on weekdays and never saw the management, apart from two housekeepers. However, the rooms were clean, the decor stylishly old-timey and the amenities were beyond reproach.

    Ernest2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Charming place to stay near the center of pacific grove. There could be more space to set toiletry bags in the bathroom, but other than that everything was sufficient for a night’s stay.

    Andrea2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very charming Victorian house! Self check-in was a bit different from what I was sent, but they are extremely quick to respond to phone calls. Would come again.

  • Great place!! Sooo private!! Loved having WiFi cause no phone signal. The movies that were left were things we’ve never see before which was a treat! Sooo off the beaten path it’s incredible! The drive there was magnificent!! I agree with the others commenting about “get there in the daylight” cause u will miss the turn! 😋 I can not recommend this place enough! The bedding was also super comfy and the heater kept us nice and toasty all night! Wish we could have stayed longer 😁

  • Great place to get out of the city for a couple nights. Quite a curved and fun drive to get there. Follow his directions and you’ll have no problem finding the place.

    Darin2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • It took us a bit to find the house... definitely download the map before you go because it is quite easy to get lost. Also, listen to Daniel’s instructions. There isn’t lights on the road so make sure you get there before sunset or you’ll be driving in pitch black darkness. The house was cute and cozy. Secluded and very very quite. It has everything you need for a good comfy stay.

    Lesly2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful stay, very clean and secluded like we wanted. Me and my husband enjoyed the location as well as the store market close by! Kind of hard to find but we found pretty quick as soon as you pass houses on the left with a high light brown fence get ready to look for mailboxes to the left and there’s an address of 7000 something to the right, make a quick left turn down and it’s to the right! Will definitely be back again!

  • This place was exactly what we were looking for. We were on the beach and our room overlooked the beach and ocean. There is a bar inside with a happy hour and a glass wall to enjoy the ocean view. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful. It seems like an older building, but it was perfect for us!!!

We woke up and were able to walk directly onto the beach with our pups for sunrise a few steps away from our room. Room service was super yummy and lots of local places nearby to grab breakfast. Crema was a great brunch find!

It feels like a charming cottage. Complete privacy. Go around the right side of the house and find the French doors that open into your private bedroom. The closet/study has a clothing rack and contains a table and chair where you can sit quietly next to a desk-level window for laptop work in a quiet space. The queen-sized bed, topped with a three inch memory foam mattress, is so comfortable, supportive yet soft enough to cradle your contours for a restful night's sleep. If more warmth is needed, the cozy fireplace heater will send out infrared heat. Antique dressers and lamps are charming and utilitarian. Original oil paintings hang on each wall, and change throughout the year for variety. Many are local scenes, including The Monterey Customs House, The Wharf in Monterey, the Pacific Grove coastline carpeted with florescent purple rosea mesembryanthemum. Or walk over to the nearby beach and get grand views of the Monterey Bay. You can even walk to Monterey on the beach. Get away from everything. You will delight at every mile, enjoying scenic vistas and wildlife viewing, including harbor seals, sea otters, sea lions, birds and sometimes even whales! Walk, run, or bike to downtown Monterey and other famous local attractions. So easy.
  • I had a wonderful 2 months in Cathy and Robert’s place. I loved the location. I liked how it was so close to the highway 1 entrance. It’s right at the edge of Monterey and Seaside. I think I ended up eating most of my meals in Seaside. The place is private and at the back of Cathy and Robert’s house. You get a private entrance through the backyard. It’s very spacious and had plenty of room to hang up and store my things. The bathroom is ADA compliant so the shower is big but is in the same area as the toilet. There’s a large curtain that pulls all the way around the shower area. It takes some getting used to. Eventually I found the best angle to point the shower head to minimize the amount of water that got close to the toilet. Cathy and Robert were very responsive and friendly. Whenever I had any problems or needed refills in some of the amenities, they were quick to respond. This place was definitely a great place to stay in Monterey!

    Stefanie2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cathryn and Robert are the best hosts anyone could ask for. They made everything so easy and were very easy to talk to in case I needed anything. Robert's paintings made the space extra special too, and more than once he dropped off some freshly baked bread for me (it was delicious!). I had a wonderful stay and recommend Cathryn and Robert's place for anyone looking to stay in the area.

    Sarah2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Robert and Cathy are THE BEST Airbnb hosts on the planet. They have become family. The cottage is wonderful in every way, and I cannot wait to come back sometime in the near future. Book without hesitation!!

    Alexandre2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cozy cottage is a great place to live! We stayed there for more than two months and had a great time! The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is small but you have everything to cook a great meal! We also enjoyed the small terrace in the morning, with some coffee and the best bread from our host Robert. Thank you!

    Annika2019-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Cathy and Robert’s place for two months and thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The room had a private entrance as described and I stayed warm while I was there. I didn’t cook, but they have plenty of cooking appliances available for use. The bed was comfy, the sheets were very soft, and everything about it felt like home. Also, their home is close to so many local spots! Downtown Monterey, the aquarium, and Carmel are all about a 15 min drive. You can also walk to the park in the neighborhood. Cathy and Robert were very generous hosts! And they make the most amazing sourdough bread! I highly recommend this Airbnb.

    Joan2018-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Super friendly hosts with an excellent Airbnb! Private and pleasant, with everything a guest needs for a comfortable stay.

    Amy2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I start?? Cathy and Robert are HANDS DOWN the best, kindest, and most gracious Airbnb hosts I've ever had the chance to encounter. After a month in their wonderful cottage, I feel they've become part of my family. From Cathy's extraordinary fresh baked sourdough breads to the wonderful walks and talks the three of us shared, I won't ever forget my month at Clementine Cottage, and simply cannot wait to return soon!

    James2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I wanted a romantic week getaway in Carmel Valley so we could sip wine and enjoy Big Sur - and that’s exactly what we got! The only thing that was disappointing was the fact that the bathroom is not attached to the bedroom so you have to step outside to go pee in the middle of the night - which freaked me out at first and I’m not sure if I ever got used to it. The shower is great except for the fact that the toilet is in the same room and I was a little sad there was no bathtub. Overall, amazing place, location, amenities, and value. It was a great spot to come back to after our adventures in Big Sur. I especially loved how amazing Gina and Jay were - sending is private notes with recommendations where to go - and we top every single recommendation and they did not disappoint! We really felt well taken care of. Would definitely stay here again.

    Madeline2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect two-night getaway on our trip down the coast! Some of our favorite time in the area was time spent on the back deck of the cottage reading and sipping wine.

    Shelby2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and as pretty as advertised!

    Jennifer2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay, especially when the weather is nice and you can be out on the deck or hammock. We had unusually cold rainy weather for most of our time here, but got one nice morning to enjoy the hot tub. It was wonderfully private for our romantic getaway. We loved the little touches of the free bottle of wine/champagne, the bathrobes, and sandals to use with the hot tub, and all the suggestions for local experiences to enjoy. We would definitely come stay again.

  • Spotlessly clean, thoughtful amenities, and cozy bed. Best sleep I've had in an AirBnB. Bed was so comfortable. Jim makes sure you have everything you need and offers breakfast in the morning on weekends. I'm bummed I didn't have time this trip, but I will definitely stay with him on my next trip.

  • If you are a low maintenance travel- book now! He let us park in the driveway. The room was more spacious than anticipated which was a plus. My fiancé and I had plenty of space to lay our suitcases wide open at the same time. They had waters and tissues which came in handy. Highly recommend and the dumplings and tea were a huge cherry on top!

  • Jim and Helen were incredibly warm and inviting. The space was comfortable and very easy to check in and out of. We were blown away by how accommodating they were—and the warm, delicious dumplings the morning we departed were literally the highlight of our trip to Monterey!

  • We enjoyed a wonderful three day at Jim's place while visiting Carmel and Monterey. It's very convenient and a great value with many less expensive dining options nearby too. The room is spotlessly clean with several bottles of water as well. The bathroom, also very clean, is just steps down the hall and was private for us. There is a space heater in the room which made it very cosy and warm. Jim and his family are extremely friendly and welcoming, we loved the dumplings he made us for breakfast!

You'll enjoy this fully renovated home with two bedrooms, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, full size kitchen, and plenty to do nearby. There is plenty of room for 6 on the outdoor patio set. Lounge in the hammock or get warm by the propane fire, sitting back in your adirondack seat. It doesn't stop there- relax in the lounge jacuzzi while enjoying time with family or friends. You'll have an unforgettable time here!
  • We had an awesome time at this spot. The space was incredibly stylish, outdoor area was big and excellent for lounging for us and our pup, and the bed was super comfy. I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and come back if in the area again. Loved it!!

  • My family and I had a nice stay here. The house was very clean and nicely styled, and the backyard was a great spot to relax. We only wished it was in a more walkable location.

    Sadie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, very thoughtful layout and very clean. We cooked every night and the pots/pans were in great condition (i.e. pots/pans not scratched and the knives sharpened). Check-in/out was a breeze, great communication, comfortable beds, and was so lovely to find an AirBnB that allows pets that is so clean! The area is somewhat densely populated so neighbors in second floor buildings have a view of the backyard and jacuzzi, but we were out and about each day or relaxing and cooking inside so that didn't matter to us. The private driveway was really convenient for easy unloading of the car and guaranteed parking.

  • This home was exactly what we needed for our perfect weekend exploring Monterey & Carmel. All of our Uber rides were only ever 5-15 minutes away from everything we wanted to do. The house itself was so stylish and very clean. The beds were super comfy and the bathroom was a perfect size! There was 4 of us (2 couples) and we kept saying how perfect our Airbnb was. Everything we needed was provided including coffee. The hot tub was a great addition to our end of the nights as well. Our host was always available if needed too. Overall, we had an amazing trip and would visit again.

  • Very good, central accommodation in Salinas. City center with restaurants and shopping possibilities within walking distance. Ligia & Darren are generous and nice hosts. The studio is sparkling clean, beautifully and lovingly decorated. Checking in is very pleasant, the hosts were personally present. A fruit bowl, coffee, tea and water were ready for us. Easy parking in front of the house. We would stay here again at any time. Many thanks to Ligia & Darren.

  • This casita is located on a nice, quiet street. The accommodations have everything you could possibly need for a pleasant stay. It is very beautiful and clean; Ligia definitely knows how to decorate! While we love that the location is close to Monterey and Carmel, we found that Salinas has great things to offer as well. Main Street is really cute. Darren and Ligia are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We are so glad we stayed, and we would definitely come again!
