Places to stay in Aquinnah
We are conveniently located within walking distance to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, directly across from the bike trail. We are less than 1.5 miles from either ferry boat.
You’ll have one bedroom within a two bedroom suite. If there are guests in the other bedroom, the sitting room, private deck and bathroom will be shared with those guests. Both bedrooms can accommodate two persons each.
We are centrally located to VH and OB, on the East side of the Island. You can walk to Eastville Beach or Doug’s Cove (1/4 mile), or OB town beach and Inkwell, about 1.2 miles. We are in a quite neighborhood, yet minutes from the town’s hub pubs.
  • Another great stay! I was here for work for 1 night and all was perfect as it was before! I'll be back =)

  • Cozy and cute and comfortable place in a quiet area. You can walk to the center of oak bluffs in under 30 minutes or take a 6 Minute uber or Car Ride. Theda offered water and coffee and there were also a lot of supplies in the bathroom. My sister and I Had a great time at her place ans would definately come again!

    Anna2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed at Theda’s place for the weekend for work on the island and it was great. We had our private room while another couple was staying in another. Bathroom and space sharing was a breeze. Theda was super quick to respond to any questions we had and was such a caring, helpful host. Definitely would recommend her place for a quick stay on the island, A+ host.

  • If you're looking for a comfortable place to stay look no further. The private suite was comfortable and clean and provides a great place to stay while exploring the island. Theda is very welcoming and communicates well to make sure your stay will be a good one.

  • Great stay in a cosy room with everything you need. Halfway between Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven makes it easy to get to . We used the excellent value buses, the drivers were so helpful. Just walk up to the hospital area on the corner to catch them. Theda’s place is excellent value.

    Estelle2019-06-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot.

    Allison2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Theda’s place is fantastic! This was my first trip to the Vineyard and Theda’s home embodies the welcoming spirit of the island. We couldn’t have been happier!

1875 Gay Head paddle ferry boat Inn, perching above bluffs overlooking Cutty Hunk and the Elisabeth Islands.
People come here to R-e-l-a-x and get away from the hustle and bustle. If that is what you are looking for, you will be very happy to find it here, like no other place on the Island. Here, we enjoy sitting on the beach, normally with no one around, taking in the view from the deck, barbecuing, reading, and just taking in the peace and silence. Menemsha, the fishing village ten minutes away is fun to visit, and there are restaurants there as well. You may see some movie stars hanging out at the Chilmark Store-or even at our beach, as they like the privacy here too! (I have! :-)) If you want to go to a restaurant "down island" it's just a 30-40 minute drive from where you are.
  • Nice spot - fantastic location

    Lauren2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • Ken and his wife Corrine were great hosts to us and our children. The house has a prefect location for a nice getaway from the crowds of MV.. Our kids loved the private beach, the back yard and the hosts. We also had a perfect weather and it made the experience very special. Nice, quiet and unique place on MV. It has a touch of history, it’s cozy, with basic amenities and you get a feel of being at a unique place.

    Martin2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place to stay. The outside shower was amazing! Ken was great! Looking forward to come back in the future.

    Alejandra2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • The semi private beach on Martha's Vineyard was awesome. The outdoor shower was so much better than i originally thought. You must experience that. The throw back look of the home being from early last century with pictures to prove it there was amazing. We felt like we were in the 50's getting to walk to beach every day and walk and pick up shells and see the most beautiful seaweed. This is a hide away. If privacy is wanted this is it. Far from civilization as you can get.

    Todd2018-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was simply the most delightful trip we've taken simply due to the spectacular view, beautiful home, and most charming and welcoming hosts. On arrival we were afforded a tour and made sure we had everything we needed. The secluded room with a private entrance we stayed in had the spectacular ocean view and the rotating beam of light from the the lighthouse at night that would poke through the trees. The beach walk to the water was a rare treat both at night and during the day. If you are looking for a peaceful, secluded, "like nothing you've stayed at before" experience of MV this is the place. We're already trying to plan another trip for next summer and won't stay anywhere else but here again.

    Robert2016-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • The hosts Ken and Corrina were incredibly down to earth. Corrina is an amazing artist. Her seaweed art is on display when you walk through the door. We got an immediate cape cod feel as soon as we walked through the door. The view of the ocean is breath taking. A very short walk to the beach. We would go back anytime and stay there again. Worth every penny. Ken and Corrina always made us feel like it was our house and made sure we had what we needed.

This quaint and rustic cottage is located on six untouched acres on Edgartown Great Pond. This rental comes with a private boat landing on the property. The pond is just 5 min walk from the cottage with 3 kayaks available for your use. Kayak across the pond to a pristine private part of the South shore beach. Or the public South beach access is just 1.5 miles drive, walk or bike-ride away. Historic downtown Edgartown is 3 miles away. You drive through a small scenic farm and conservation property on the way in to the cottage. Bike paths line the main road to the beach and into town. The location is quiet and secluded. Enjoy your own private boat landing on beautiful Edgartown Great Pond with sitting area just a short stroll from the cottage. 3 Kayaks are available for your use on Edgartown Great Pond, comes with the cottage rental at no extra charge. Very private location, just a mile and a half from famous South Beach. Only 3 miles to quaint historic downtown Edgartown. I will meet you when you arrive, give you a tour of the property and pond landing, I am happy to orient you to the area. Other then that you have complete privacy. I am just a phone call away if you need anything. The rustic cottage heralds back to 1930, originally a duck hunting cabin. The neighborhood has become a private upscale enclave, surrounded by conservation land and a small farm. Access to Edgartown Great Pond is just steps away from the cottage. The pond is great for kayaking and swimming. You can kayak across the pond to a gorgeous and pristine private beach. I recommend bringing a car. Also renting bikes is fun because the public beach is a close bike ride away and quaint historic Edgartown is only 3 miles from the house. The area is very flat and wide bike paths line the road to beach and town. There is a bus that picks up and drops off about 3/4 of a mile away. The bus can take you to town (or the beach, which is so close anyway). In Edgartown the bus system can take you all over the island.
  • This is my second go-round at The Shack and it most definitely will not be my last. The place is great, close enough to town for to ride your bike and you has access to Edgartown Great Pond which means you are a 10 minute paddle from an empty part of South Beach. Cleo is a great host and the place is spotlessly clean upon arrival.

    Rocky2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • We found true respite and relaxation at Cleo’s rustic spot tucked in the woods, it was an ‘old Vineyard’ experience in all ways. We are grateful to have had the experience of staying at the Shack.

    Mundy2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so so cool. The location is perfect. You drive through a farm to get here and it’s completely private and awesome. The outdoor sitting area with fire pit is great and it’s only a short walk to the private lake. On top of this, you are literally a 5 minute drive to South Beach and a 10 minute drive to the nightlife of Edgartown. The space is decorated amazingly. Such a cool and unique style. There are more amenities than we thought! So this was a great thing. The listing led us to believe we would need our own sheets and towels and soap but Cleo had it perfectly stocked and it was awesome!

    Tristan2019-06-29T00:00:00Z
  • This place is great, old Vineyard feel, rustic and charming. Cleo was very responsive and helpful, it was also extremely clean. The photos do not even come close to doing it justice.

    Rocky2018-09-10T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved The Shack. Cleo was a terrific host, the location was awesome, the cottage and outside bedroom very comfortable and as boaters and fishers we loved the decor. And Cleo has thought of everything: Fire pit for a cool night? Check! Hammock? Check! Outdoor seating? Check! Grill? Check. Outdoor shower with hot water? Check. We highly recommend The Shack for your stay on the Vineyard and hope to return often.

    Brad2018-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful location for our family vacation. Short bike ride to south beach and a very short walk to the pond that was a big hit with our 4 and 1 year old. Unfortunately, we ran out of time and did not get to use the kayaks but would have love too. Cleo was a wonderful host, answered all of our questions prior and during our stay very quickly. We had a wonderful stay.

    Katie2018-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. We loved it. It's a nice, secluded location. Private. Peaceful. The kayaks are such a great perk. The beach you can kayak too is outstanding. We saw seals out there every day we went. As we walked up and down the beach, the seals followed us. Quite beautiful. The beds are comfy, the showers (1 indoor & 1 outdoor) are great, the "Shack" is adorable & Cloe was a perfect host. We can't wait to go back!

    Margalo2016-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • Cleo gave us very detailed directions to the "Shack," which made the secluded cottage easy to find. So great that our dog could come with us with plenty of space for him to run around and take him for walks. My kids especially enjoyed the hammock and kayaks. The cottage had all the necessary utilities needed to cook food and the washer and dryer were very appreciated. The interior decorating was rustic and inviting. The location and well-equipped cottage made our first Martha's Vineyard family vacation one to remember.

  • Great spot in Menemsha! Walk to the beach through a cow pasture and into the fishing village! Having a fireplace a king bed and laundry was HUGE! We loved staying here and would highly recommend!

  • We loved this beautiful home and all it had to offer! The community is so helpful and wonderful to us tourists and it’s really appreciated. The home was so sweet - it was very cozy and English cottage-like. The master bedroom downstairs is gigantic and that was super luxurious. And the wild turkeys roaming the property really take the cake! We loved having such easy access to Menemsha beach with its fabulous sunsets!!! We feel so lucky to have experienced this beautiful place!!

Water view room in Aquinnah on Martha's Vineyard. Aquinnah is a rural area far from the crowds of "down Island". Price varies depending on month $125. - $185. The 10 x 10 foot room has an ocean view and a tree house like feel. It is separate from the main house where we live with our twelve year old son. There is a small half bathroom that is shared with a guest room below. We only use the OUTDOOR shower from May through Columbus Day so please make sure you are comfortable with that.
Aquinnah is "up Island" and away from the crowds. The room feels very secluded. There are windows on two sides of the room with one side facing the ocean. All the windows have curtains. The house is a modern custom built home that centers around the deck. Pricing varies depending on month, weekly rates are available. The room is in the upper level of a guest tower across the deck from the main house. The room has a queen sized platform bed that is raised, so that you can see the view. There is a small half bath that is shared with a guest room below, the entrance to the bathroom is on the deck. There is a shared OUTDOOR shower, we do not use our indoor shower in the summer season (approximately May through Columbus Day). The shower is partially open, on the side that faces the ocean there is no partition. Please make sure you are comfortable with this. There is wireless internet but no tv in the room. Cell service is spotty, AT&T has the best service. It is very private. At the top of the tower there is a hammock. Guests are welcome to use the table and chairs and the sofa on the deck. We live across the deck in the main house with our 12 year old son. Both my husband and I work full time during the week, so we are not always there. Aquinnah is a rural part of Martha's Vineyard. 35 minutes from the ferry in Vineyard Haven and the airport in Edgartown. It is home to the Wampanoag tribe and known for its beautiful clay cliffs and beaches. There is public transportation by bus once an hour during the summer and great biking and trails but a car is best in this area. It's hilly and remote. There is a market 10 minutes away, The Chilmark Store open mid May through the beginning of October and a grocery store 30 minutes away. The only liquor stores are in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. The closest one is MV Wine and Spirits near the airport. Good restaurants in the area, kayak/canoe rentals available and paddle boarding, surfing, sailing etc. Great beaches!
Very peaceful in the summer, far from the crowds and very close to the natural beauty of the island. We are 20 miles from the more bustling towns of Vineyard Haven, Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. There is a small market 10 minutes from our house open mid May- beginning of October. The only liquor stores are in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. The closest one is MV Wine and Spirits near the airport in Edgartown. The best grocery stores are Cronig's in Vineyard Haven and West Tisbury and Stop and Shop in Vineyard Haven and Edgartown. If you want peace and quiet This is your place, if you want towns and shopping and nightlife it's not. There are many great things in our town, like the amazing beaches, the shops at the Cliffs and the Orange Peel Bakery down the road that holds a community pizza night on Wednesdays from 5-8pm. Lots of good biking and hiking trails in the area as well. Most business in Aquinnah and Chilmark are seasonal, they open on or just before Memorial Day and by Columbus Day all restaurants and most other businesses are closed. We are a five minute drive from the Cliffs where there are restaurants and shopping. The Aquinnah Shop (sit down) is great for breakfast and sunset dinners. The Orange Peel Cafe and Cliffhangers have good take-out and there are picnic tables near by. The Outermost Inn is not far from the Cliffs and offers a 3 course Price fixe menu with a great view. Other good places are the Chilmark Tavern (10 minute drive) in Chilmark and Menemsha which has many take out places and is a great sunset watching spot. You can park your car in the pay lot at the Cliffs and spend the day at the beach. There is public parking at Lobsterville Beach (about a 10 minute drive). You can bike to any of the beaches in about 15-20 minutes as well.
  • Due to a big storm we couldn’t get onto Martha’s Vineyard the first night. Molly was very communicative and sympathetic the entire time. The view from the room to the ocean was also amazing. (Also of note, the bus stops right nearby)

    Ian2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place where you can sleep emersed amongst the stars and wake up amongst the tree tops. Molly, Curtis and their young son were wonderful hosts and we hope to come back again soon.

    Luisa2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful spot on a wonderful island. You are very much a guest in Molly’s home, and what a hospitable host she is. As others have noted, if you are expecting anonymous chain-hotel privacy, this is not the corner of AirBnB that you should be looking into. For the rest of us, Molly gives us a delightful way to experience Martha’s Vineyard. Highly recommended for those eschewing the beaten path.

    Marc2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great basecamp from which to explore the island. The “treehouse” is just across the deck from the main family house in an impressive tower structure. I’ll miss waking up to that view from up high among the treetops. The property is beautifully secluded, far from the madding crowds. You’re a 40 min drive from the main towns so best bring a car. Molly invited me for pie on 4th of July which was an unexpected treat!

    Richard2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay. A true gem in the best location.

    Seth2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a special place - on an island full of hustle and bustle (and traffic), there truly is a place to get away from it all and this is it. This is a cozy bedroom with a beautiful view of the ocean and treetops - it’s a tree house experience - laying in bed and seeing the treetops and listening to the sounds of nature is awesome. A great respite, yet with the ability to WiFi into your digital life if/when needed. And several wonderful eateries nearby as well - shout out for the Chilmark Tavern - not far down the road. Thank you, Molly & Curtis!

    Liz2019-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Molly was super helpful and accommodating! Beautiful and peaceful property, would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quiet getaway!

    Paul2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had a truly wonderful stay at Molly's place in Aquinnah. I was looking for a reasonably priced place to stay up island and Molly's place couldn't have been more perfect. It as an exceptional value. The view from the windows of the room is breathtaking, and the small fridge in the room was super convenient for me to keep ice packs and picnic fixings handy for my daily adventures. The shower is indeed very open but Molly and her family were great about respecting my privacy when I used the shower so it was totally fine with me. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a beautiful, secluded getaway on Martha's Vineyard.

    Susan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • James and Susan’s place is one of the best Airbnb experiences my family and I have ever had. It’s in a stunning location, peaceful and quiet, with views over the ocean that go on and on. The house is cozy, stylish and perfectly appointed. There are great walking spots nearby. Even in the middle of the winter, it’s a lovely and comforting spot. James was very quick to respond, kind and easy to communicate with. Great time.

    Jen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The house is lovely. Well designed and thoughtfully laid out with beautiful views. We really enjoyed our time!

    Mia2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • My family of five absolutely loved our time at this beautiful home. Even in the dead of winter. Not only is it tastefully and comfortably decorated, it also has every convenience one would need. But, equally importantly, nothing one would NOT need. Hence our ability to really relax and feel like we were on vacation! We will be back......

    lauren2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this house. We celebrated Thanksgiving there this year and the house was extremely well stocked for lots of cooking and entertaining. The house is exactly as portrayed in the photos and the view is absolutely amazing. A great place to kick back with family for a few days. Lockbox on the door so easy to check in/out. Great sound system throughout the house. Quality everywhere. Definitely a great place for some down time!

    Patty2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The house looked exactly like the pictures, very clean and stylishly decorated, with panoramic ocean views. Very comfortable beds and couches. Everything we had hoped for in a beautiful location!!

  • Loved the quiet, private and comfortable stay.

    Sabrina2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Theda's place was wonderful! Comfortable and well located with easy access to Oak's Bluff and Vineyard Haven. The beds were both memory foam and very comfortable, everything was clean, there were plenty of pillows and extra blankets and towels. There were even space heaters in each room to take off the October chill. We loved the ease of the self check-in using a door code. In addition to the nice two bedroom suite with sitting area and bathroom, we were able to access the common area (main floor) of the house through a sliding door. This was a lovely added bonus. We enjoyed cooking some meals in the well equipped kitchen and sitting in the wonderful solarium-like dining room. There are also two lovely sitting rooms in the common area decorated with a charming mix of antique furniture, cool art, and comfy seating. There was even a stack of board games available. Theda was away during our stay, but she was very communicative and quick to respond. I'd highly recommend staying at Theda's for your Martha's Vineyard trip!

    Claire2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Theda was super fast at responding to my questions. Her home has all the amenities a typical home does, you can tell it is lived in and not just a glorified vacation rental - which I total appreciate. She was available to be by phone and text when I had questions on arrival and the rooms were comfortable.

    Marie2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Theda's home is very charming, inviting, and cozy. We were in active communication throughout our time here, especially during the Nor'easter that hit during our stay. Theda was very accommodating and understanding. She even offered to reimburse us for firewood if we wanted. Thank you for everything!

Each of the three levels of the house has a full bath, plus an additional half-bath powder room on the main floor and an outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Radiant floor heating, a wood-burning stove, and two fireplaces make for a magical winter getaway as well.
The home is on a peaceful private road, safe for children and perfect for a leisurely walk. Beaches: The house is just a mile and a half from exclusive Philbin Beach, one of the few places on the east coast you can see the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean. Walk from Philbin to adjoining Moshup Beach and the world-famous Gay Head Cliffs, named one of the world's best beaches by the Travel Channel. Lobsterville and West Basin beaches are on the Vineyard Sound side of Aquinnah and offer swimming, sunsets and fabulous fishing. Red Beach offers a gentle surf for kids, a kayak launching point and tide pools galore. Access to these three beaches is included with the rental. Philbin Beach is open to Aquinnah residents and renters only, with purchase of a weekly parking permit from the town (no permit needed for bikes). Even closer: Take a stroll to the Sargent Gallery (formerly Gayhead Gallery) for a wine and cheese reception, or walk to the Orange Peel Bakery for coffee, baked goods or their famed Pizza Night. The Aquinnah Public Library and town playground are also a short walk from the house. Aquinnah: For those looking to completely escape, the night sky in Aquinnah is truly amazing. Situated on the tip of the Island, the band of the Milky Way is visible on any clear night. Aquinnah, formerly known as Gay Head of Moby Dick fame, is one of the few truly rural escapes remaining on Martha's Vineyard.

Lovely, newly renovated 500 sq. ft. guest cottage on peaceful, residential hilltop near town & water. Open kitchen & living areas, BR with double bed, sweet twin BR off main BR, convertible queen sofa in LR, private patio & fenced in yard for pups. Close to everything - For children, walk to the park, playground or water. For adults, a 3 minute walk down the hill to the lagoon to kayak or windsurf. Or walk downtown to great shops & restaurants, the beach or a great movie. A true pleasure.
Layout of cottage: When you first walk into the cottage you are in the living room, with the kitchen and bathroom off to your left. In the living room is a queen sized nice sofa bed. Through the living room is a door to the master bedroom, which has a full sized bed, dresser, end table and roomy closet. When you walk into that bedroom, there is a door on your left that goes to the twin room. It is a beautiful, very little room with a built in bed, shelving, desk and washer and dryer. There is a fenced in yard, with a brand new outdoor shower, patio, outdoor furniture and grill. If these dates are not available, please send us a message. We have other beautiful properties.
This beautiful hilltop cottage is on a lovely residential street a short walk to town (Main Street in Vineyard Haven). You can walk either through a park and playground or along the lagoon to go into town, to restaurants or shops, or to the ferry. To get to beaches from this cottage you can walk down the hill to the lagoon, where you can rent kayaks and paddle out. Or you can walk into town which is about 10 minutes through the park, and walk another 5 minutes to Owen Little Park which has a small beach, or about 5-10 more minutes to the public beach next to the yacht club. There is also a more secluded beach a short drive away where Lake Tashmoo meets the ocean. It one of my favorites, down a beautiful dirt road with water on both sides. The lake side of the beach is dreamy peaceful and perfect for young children, and the ocean side is a perfect, small classic beach. Martha's Vineyard is a beautiful island off of Cape Cod, in Massachusetts. Vineyard Haven is the primary port, with historic homes, lovely beaches, fabulous shopping and delicious restaurants. Our cottage is just outside the center of Vineyard Haven and the ferry.
  • This cottage is adorable. The touches are perfect. I’d definitely recommend Sharons cottage and she’s a pleasure to work with

  • The cottage was a perfect spot for our small family of 3. The space is set up very well, and we had everything we needed. The outdoor shower was fabulous, and it was very nice to have the additional, calm space of the yoga studio. The wine and chocolate were beautiful touches as well. We will be back!

  • This has been my first Airbnb experience and it was wonderful. Sharon was very helpful with any questions I needed, and was able respond right away. The location seemed small from the outside but was extremely beautiful and had plenty room on the inside. Thank you Sharon for a great time!

  • This is a charming two room cottage on a quiet dirt road. If you want to be off the beaten path, this place is perfect. Its a 15-20 minute walk into Edgartown. Its cosy, comfy and quiet. The host was very responsive throughout out booking through check-out.

  • Charming and comfortable private spot close to beach, Starbucks, Edgartown and bus stop. You will likely want a bike or a car to get to all but Starbucks. For very heavyset people: the shower may be a bit of a squeeze.

  • Amazing location, we really enjoyed the time on the outdoor sitting area. Host was very accommodating during our stay. We will absolutely be back. 5 stars!

  • Fabulous place, with a very welcoming host. Very quick to respond to queries & nothing too much trouble for her. Arrived to a few little welcome goodies too (nice touch). Spacious accommodation & short walk into Edgartown, with fabulous restaurants & shops. Enjoyed the short walk to Bad Martha’s brewery too. Could highly recommend this place...you won’t be disappointed!!

  • Allie is an excellent host- incredibly responsive. The cottage is an a great location- we borrowed the cottage bikes and could bike all over. Very close to Edgartown, right next to the bike/walking path, and across the road from a convenient market and Bad Martha’s brewery. Bed was comfortable, shower was clean and the back patio was nice and relaxing.

This apartment is next to an art studio on the first floor of a shared house where owners and toddler live upstairs. It’s bright, newly renovated, and completely private (no shared spaces) There are 2 bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchenette, and parking. It is exactly 1 mile from Oak Bluffs Center, a half mile from The Cottages and Farm Neck Golf Course, and a block from Tradewinds walking trails. Across the street is the bike path, & the bus stop is on the corner for easy island transportation
We live on a main road in a residential area of Oak Bluffs. While we are an easy going family of 3, this is not a party home...so if you are planning on partying your vacation away (which is an understandable vacation goal...cheers!) we are not the ideal spot for you. -Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, before talking about our neighborhood I'll give you a short overview of the island. The entire island is beautiful; there are 6 main towns...Vineyard Haven (aka Tisbury), Edgartown (Chappaquiddick is part of Edgartown), Oak Bluffs, West Tisbury, Chilmark (Menemsha is part of Chilmark), and Aquinnah (aka Gay Head). Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown are the towns that you will mainly go to for shopping, restaurants, and tourist stuff...West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah are more well known for the beautiful landscapes with Aquinnah being your final up-island destination to see the Clay Cliffs. We are located in Oak Bluffs which is right in between Edgartown and Vineyard Haven, so it is a short 5-10 minute drive to both locations. Oak Bluffs is where you'll find the colorful gingerbread cottages, the island's bowling alley (both less than a mile from the house), the Offshore brewery, the flying horses (the oldest operating carousel in the country), East Chop Lighthouse, Circuit Avenue, and a beautiful harbor with restaurants, activites, and ferries to Nantucket (all of this is around 1 mile from the house). There are beaches in every town including Oak Bluffs and while we go the beaches in Oak Bluffs all of the time for convenience I would recommend exploring beaches around the island...you'd be doing yourself a great disservice going to the same Oak Bluffs beaches every day. Fortunately we are just steps from the bus stop, the bus will bring you tons of places on the island, tho the schedule does become limited during the off season. We also have parking for you, so bringing your car or renting a car would be a great option...just remember that you must MAKE A RESERVATION on the ferry if you are bringing your car (make it as quickly as you can...the ferries fill up fast). We also are located directly on the bike path if your hope is to bike the island. If your vacation goals are to explore what the island has to offer we are a great location for you; on the other hand if your goals are to lay low in the house and walk to the beach everyday we may not be your ideal location.
  • This is a lovely space, very comfortable for a couple, or for a couple plus kids. Hint to adults: the blue bedroom is yours, the yellow one is the kids’. The kitchen does not have a full range, but is nicely appointed nonetheless ... no problem making risotto, Spanish tortillas, roasted mushrooms, etc. We ate well. Bring your own groceries, including coffee and tea. Very convenient location in a residential neighborhood, right next door to Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. Assuredly recommended.

    Marc2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • This apartment is great for anyone who wants to travel to anywhere and everywhere on the island. It’s right in the middle of MV and nothing is too far away. Check in and out is also quick and easy!

    Susan2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodations were clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated. Wifi was great as well as the streaming services on the living room TV. Our access was simple and communication with Jasmine was rapid. The location was convenient for making vehicle excursions into various parts of the island. Some ambient noise but overall a peaceful location.

  • While the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are quaint and modest, the gorgeous large new deck and views of the lighthouse, and sound for nearly 180 degrees and expansive green lawn are breathtaking. The location is convenient to Aquinnah beaches but secluded. While it’s not beachfront, ocean waves are audible and traffic is not.

  • Colin was super helpful and replied quickly whenever I had a question. Clear communication and easy check-in. The location of the house in Aquinnah can't be beat, with access to the town beaches included in the rental. A wonderful place for those seeking quiet and solitude, with beautiful views of the ocean and Aquinnah lighthouse.

  • Colin’s place is a very cute cabin in a gorgeous setting. The house is well appointed. There’s lots of land around to play and the outside eating area and upper deck are spectacular. The beach is an easy bike ride away (or 3-5 mins drive). We had a great week at Colin’s.

Well equipped, immaculately clean cottage with full kitchen, washer and drier, grill, outside (and inside too) shower. One mile from South Beach. 1.5 miles to town. Near bike path. Great place for two couples or families with 1 or 2 children.
There aren't too many small cottages on Martha's Vineyard anymore! This one is well maintained and close to the beach and Edgartown with it's beautiful harbor and many fine restaurants.
Quiet neighborhood half way between town and beach.
  • Sue was a wonderful host! Her space was incredibly clean and just adorably decorated! We were able to utilize the suggestions she had in the binder for the local places that were available for off-season business and look forward to booking with her again in the future. The cottage was the perfect place in a nice, quiet, safe location!! Thank you again for everything!

    Kristen2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We were traveling for work. Sue’s place was a home away from home and had everything we needed. Clean too! We’ll be back again on our next trip to the Vineyard. Thanks Sue!

  • A warm and quaint cottage perfect for a few days away. It’s in an excellent location as it’s walking distance to the beach and less than a 5 minute drive to downtown Edgartown. The cottage is clean, cozy, and provides all the amenities you would need for a week away. We can’t recommend this place enough.

  • Sue was a great host! Right upon arrival, Sue provided a nice 'off-season' look-book, to help out with planning out our daily agenda. She also stopped by, and loved her personal suggestions. The home was very clean, had great space for the two of us, and was extremely convenient for checking-in and out. We stay here often each summer, and was an ideal location in Katama, between downtown Edgartown and South Beach. Highly recommend a stay here, and we see ourselves coming back on our next trip.

    Evan2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great value in Edgartown. Off season was a great way to discover the island. The cottage was very homey which was a great treat for my son who travels for work and really enjoyed a couple of days in a cozy space. We slept great in the comfy beds. Thanks, Sue, for the great local tips. The washer/dryer was a great help! Fully stocked kitchen appliances though we dined out.

Bright honeymoon suite provides the eco friendly traveler with organic linens, a composting toilet and green bath products. Owner dwells in the main house adjacent to property. This space is perfect for a couple looking for a serene get away or the individual seeking a inspiring space. You will also have access to wooded trails and a private beach
For those who are comforted by a minimalist approach to their space and are environmentally conscious, this is the place for you. The studio is situated at the end of a quiet dirt road, surrounded by beautiful gardens, hens that provide fresh eggs and occasional veggies for sale. Follow the winding dirt road for a mile and you will find yourself at a private beach overlooking the Vineyard Sound. The studio is simple but its attention to detail leaves one content with its offerings.

  • It's hard to sum up in words how wonderful this place is! The studio is unrelenting lovely – a perfect retreat...but the entire property is magic. There is a perfect walking path to a secluded beach...a nearby bicycle shop...and beauty everywhere. Mandi is an incredible host, and if you're lucky...she may provide a pot of hot coffee in the morning. The only downside...it will be hard to leave.

The fresh homemade donuts were better than any breakfast we could have gotten on the island. Most comfortable bed, cozy private space with great huge bathroom and lots of nice touches like emergency toiletries , local info and a huge bookshelf of great reads. We will definitely be back!

  • Nancy’s is a sweet lady, and her home was amazing! You’d never know it was in a basement when you’re inside. The outside entrance is beautiful, and inside was very nicely decorated with furniture that was very comfortable. The bed was also very comfortable. There is a coffee bar that had everything you needed for tea and coffee, and Nancy’s homemade muffins were absolutely delicious! Also, it was so convenient to be able to wash and dry our clothes there! We also enjoyed meeting her little dog, who was absolutely precious! We enjoyed our time there so very much! We explored the island and watched the beautiful sunset on Aquinnah headlands. It was spectacular! We will definitely stay there again if we come back to the island! Valerie and Taylor

  • This was my second time staying at Nina’s place. It’s a lovely spot that’s conveniently located. It’s spacious and cozy. We could easily get to my family’s place and had a nice time going for runs on the trails near the house.

    Abigail2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nina's cottage is a hidden oasis in West Tisbury. My husband and I enjoyed a long fall weekend on the island filled with r+r. Nina's place was the perfect spot for jaunts around the island since it's pretty centrally located. We found the cottage very comfortable, quiet, and beautifully appointed. We hope to stay here again!

    Abigail2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful location and host, with excellent communication.

    Colby2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private space! Very clean, nicely decorated and very homey. Nina also left us some delicious cake and some apples to snack on! Great quiet getaway when visiting M.V.!

    Jill2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property with lots of nice touches, especially the fresh homemade bread Nina left for us.

    Dan2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Nina was a great host. The location was great for walks and centrally located on the island so not far from anything by car. Very tranquil and unique!! I even got to paint!!

    Robert2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The ideal island getaway. Easy access to all the in-town activity. Perfect relief when that activity becomes too much.

Bright sunny architect designed contemporary ''classic'' Vineyard beach house with weathered shingles, post and beam construction, exposed beams, pine siding and wood floors throughout.
A unique design of two houses connected by a screened breezeway (with barn doors that can be closed during inclement weather) makes it ideally suited for a large family, or two families vacationing together. The main house has an open floor plan downstairs and includes living-dining area, kitchen and mudroom. The master suite located on the floor above. The 'bunkhouse' offers two bedrooms (1 queen and 1 full futon) and a full bath downstairs, and two bedrooms (2 twins/room) and a full bath upstairs. There is an enclosed outdoor shower off the side deck and a large back deck, with views over open fields.

Family home available for rent with three bedrooms plus loft with sofa. Short walk to Lobsterville Beach and near Menemsha Pond. Access to Philbin Beach and other Aquinnah Beaches. Fully winterized.
Good for young families as walk to Lobsterville Beach and a short bike ride to Menemsha Pond. Bike ferry to Menemsha from Aquinnah Docks as well. Quiet as Lobsterville is a dead end road to the pond or the pier.
  • I went to high school on the Vineyard, so I know it well. We usually come back about once a year to visit family and friends, but had never rented a place before. When I saw this listing I was floored, and thought there must be some mistake. The house is beautiful and huge with a view of the water, and super lovely to cook and have dinners in. We grilled fish every night that we picked up in Menemsha (25 minute drive, or 3 minute drive + 1 minute passenger ferry ride away - but the ferry stops at 5) during the day. The four bedrooms are all nicely spread out so everyone feels like they have their own space. We were traveling with 2 kids (4.5 and 8 months) and it was a really comfortable house for them - space to run around, homey and not overly done up so we weren't terrified of touching things. There are 4 lovely beaches within a 10 minute drive - Red Beach (about a 5 minute drive down the road) which is on Menemsha Pond and is very harbor-like/shallow and good for kids, Lobsterville Beach (about a 2 minute drive down the dirt road to the house), which is also calm with a pretty small, classic Cape Cod like beach, Aquinnah Public Beach (about a 10 minute drive down by the cliffs) which is stunning and larger with waves on the ocean side, and Philbin Beach (which is one beach over from the cliffs but private - passes come with the house). The house comes stocked with a ton of beach towels, boogie boards, a kayak, a windsurfer bottom, coolers, etc. There is a huge finished basement that has a ping pong table and a room full of like one million bikes in all sizes. There is also a kids wagon which I explicitly mention because we randomly brought one with us! The only potential downside of the house is that it is pretty isolated - if you're looking for a central spot to explore the whole island, or want to go out a lot to restaurants/bars/shopping it would definitely be a long haul. But if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing, beautiful home base to hang out in with lots of beach days and wine on the porch nights this place is for you.

    Ariel2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern home with international decor. So large, everyone had their own private spaces. Very secluded, yet close enough to shopping and restaurants. Wonderful stay!

    Cindy2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Matthew is an excellent host! His caretakers are also great. Any and every question I had was answered and within a very reasonable timeframe. The house was great, sleeps 6 comfortably. Great yard in a quiet area. Highly recommended

    Reece2018-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing up-island location. Matthews place is exactly as described and perfect for a vineyard get away!

    Peter2018-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great family vacation in this spacious home. Excellent location a walk or short drive from Lobsterville Beach, views of Menemsha Bight. Really a great spot for an unfussy family beach holiday (if you're looking for something fussy and fancy, this may not be the right spot for you... but if fussy and fancy is your thing, Aquinnah may not be right part of island for you). We were a group of 4 adults and 3 children -- there was plenty of space for us. The owner was easy to communicate with and there is a local caretaker to help manage arrival and departure. All around great experience, would return and/or recommend to a friend

    David2018-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect spot to explore up-island, which is my favorite part of MV and one of the truly special places in the entire world. Plenty of space and tastefully furnished. So great to be able to bike (or drive if you prefer) to Lobsterville Beach, Menemsha (via bike ferry), the Aquinnah cliffs and lighthouse for sunsets, Menemsha/Quitsa Pond (where we rented SUPS and kayaks) and Aquinnah public beach, on roads with hardly any cars. Matthew was responsive and remarkably accommodating! Very thankful for 4 perfect days in paradise!

    Derek2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The house is amazing! It’s walking distance to Lobsterville beach! It’s an amazing house for family and friends! We had the best time at Martha’s Vineyard! Matthew was a wonderful host!!!

  • This house is a hidden gem. It was sparkling clean and decorated so nicely. We loved our stay and we hope to visit this house again!

    Whitney2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place! Neat and clean with all the necessary conveniences. It was a wonderful vacation! Michael is an excellent host. Although we never met he was always quick to respond to any questions we had. I would definitely stay there again.

    Mary2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second time staying at Michael's home, it is a clean, warm home. Convenient location to downtown Edgartown, and not far from the rest of the Island. Has everything you need in the kitchen. It felt like our home away from home. I highly recommend it.

    Tom2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Michael for sharing your home with us. We had a fantastic time. Exactly what we needed. The home was centrally located, sparking clean and well stocked with the supplies we needed for our stay. The porch was absolutely wonderful. I also truly appreciated how quickly you responded to all of my questions about the area. You are the host with the most, and my family of five can’t wait to return as soon as we can!

    Felicia2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great house! Close to everything!

    Madeline2019-06-27T00:00:00Z
  • This home is immaculate, completely private and beautifully landscaped. We enjoyed absolutely everything. The driveway was handy for our car, though biking the easy 1.5 miles to town is easier than finding a parking spot. The pantries and supply closets were so well-stocked with everything we could possibly need. Michael is an amazingly thoughtful host—he anticipated every question I might have and responded to messages immediately. The house had a great collection of books and info about MV. Loved this place.

  • This home is truly amazing, immaculate, beautiful, warm, and cozy and welcoming! The six of us had a very special time together! 3 sets of sisters of 3 generations! We enjoyed Madison’s home so much we did not want to leave! Her special touches and hospitality made it so special for us! We will definitely be back! We especially enjoyed the welcoming beautiful flowers, the special Chilmark chocolates, and the wine! Madison and Caleb went over and above our expectations! Thank y’all for such a special girls trip!!

  • This is the perfect place to stay. I’m usually a little hesitant with Airbnb’s, but I’m already planning a return trip to this one. Super clean, wonderful layout, and super convenient location. Madison was an incredible host (sooo responsive), and helped us in every way imaginable. Thank you, Madison! Can’t wait to come back!

  • Madison’s place is absolutely beautiful. It is clean, charming, and in a fantastic location. There were great extra touches like complimentary wine + chocolate, a packet of local tips, and a well stocked and labeled kitchen. We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend staying here to anyone visiting Martha’s Vineyard.

    Tessa2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Madison’s house is a steal. Two bottles of wine, a box of chocolates, and some snacks (you read that right!) awaited us upon arrival. Everything in the house feels new and tight. The glassware was on point. Six of us were there for my birthday, and it was fabulous. It’s right by the grocery store. And the walk to Edgartown hit just the sweet spot—under 15 minutes. The outdoor furniture in the backyard was everything we needed to relax. I will definitely work very hard to stay there again for my next trip to the Island.

    Sitraka2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • a perfect three bedroom house. The kitchen was so organized, one of the best stocked I’ve ever seen. It was stylish and comfortable, and sparkling clean. Backyard was big with lawn chairs and eating space. I’d definitely stay again!

  • Madison’s place was the perfect homebase for our group during our weekend on the Vineyard. The home is clean, well-organized and super user-friendly (cabinets are labeled which makes finding items super easy). Madison included lots of thoughtful touches - welcome gifts of chocolate and wine, as well as snacks on hand in the cabinets. A great place to stay!

It has a queen size bed with two oversized chairs. There is a full bathroom in addition to a private outdoor shower. A small kitchen features butcher block countertops, a stainless steel sink, refrigerator and electric stove. Central air conditioning + heat make it the perfect getaway for all seasons.
The home is located less than a mile from private Lucy Vincent Beach and walk-on passes are included with the rental. The center of town is just a few minutes down the road. Enjoy Chilmark Chocolates, a slice of pizza on the porch of the Chilmark Store or a performance at The Yard. The fishing town of Menemsha is just 1.5 miles away and features the island's best sunsets, several fresh fish stores as well as The Galley and Homeport restaurants.
  • I stayed at Stephanie's place for a family thanksgiving down the road. The apartment is a wonderfully comfortable 2nd floor studio. Everything was comfortable and clean. My sister and I talked long into the night comfortably in the sitting area and I slept extremely well in the bed. I would definitely stay again! Thanks Stephanie

    Emily2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie is great and extremely personable. We can't wait to head back to the island and we intend to stay at her location again in the future.

    Jacob2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Stephanie’s. The room has high ceilings and lots of light. There is an adorable kitchenette and a contemporary bathroom. The setting is beautiful and relaxing. Stephanie is a wealth of information and a generous host. We look forward to our next visit.

    Char2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie's place was the perfect location for what we were looking for. It's an adorable guest room over her garage. Beautifully decorated, very comfortable chairs and bed, cute little kitchen area. We made breakfast each morning with the fresh eggs and English muffins she provided along with the coffee, cream and butter. She also left a box of Chilmark Chocolates that were a delicious way to end our day after dinner! Stephanie showed us on the map some her favorite locations on the island and we took her advice. Chilmark and Aquinnah are so beautiful with all of the farms and pastures around and the beaches are stunning. We had a fabulous time celebrating our anniversary on Martha's Vineyard and would definitely go back to the island and to Stephanie's place again.

    Roger2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie's place is AMAZING! She is also an extremely hospitable host, providing fresh milk, muffins and local chocolates! The space is spotless and airy, with a lot of windows. I wish I could move in! I will definitely be back.

    Mariel2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • This guesthouse is one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed, inside and out. Stephanie is an artist and has created a harmonious and serene nest for visitors. The nearby Middle Road is an unusually beautiful drive, and the nearby Lucy Vincent and Gay Head beaches are spectacular. Stephanie is a lovely and gracious and generous host. We talked with her twice and feel honored to have met her. My one concern before we came was that the guesthouse might seem too close to the main house, so that we'd feel like we were in her space too much, but that turned out not to be true at all. The guesthouse has lots of windows on three sides, but none facing the main house and its gardens. We kept all the windows open and loved the garden views and the breezes coming through, and felt totally private. If you're looking for a centrally located place from which to explore the whole island, any Chilmark AirBnB isn't for you. If you're looking to do lots of cooking, you'd probably find this kitchen a bit minimalist -- it's great for making breakfast and coffee, but has no oven or microwave and a relatively small assortment of implements. But if you're looking for quiet, comfort, and beauty, I highly recommend this guesthouse.

    Lori2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • A peaceful retreat, perfect for a couple!! We loved staying in Chilmark with only a few minutes to the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. It is just as easy and pleasant to drive into Edgartown or Oak Bluffs to enjoy the night life. Stephanie's guest house is clean, relaxing, and full of books and magazines to help you plan your stay. It's also equipped with everything you need if you want to stay in and make a homemade meal. The shower is hot, the bed is very comfortable, and it is super quiet. Stephanie is thoughtful, communicative, extremely accommodating, and full of great recommendations! One of the highlights of our trip was seeing her incredible artwork. We did not want to leave!!

    Marissa2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Stephanie's beautiful guest house and lovely garden. The location is private but very close to the best beaches and walking trails. Stephanie is a wonderful hostess: helpful, friendly and hospitable. The Chilmark chocolates were amazing and should motivate other visitors get here before the company closes shop. We would love to stay here again. E Scanlan

  • Jessica’s cottage was SO great! My husband and I were looking for a quiet place to read and relax and cook for a weekend and Jessica’s cozy cottage with great kitchen amenities, private porch and side yard, and fireplace provided exactly what we needed. She also had honey from her own bees and homemade granola - both were fantastic. We highly recommend!

    Kaitlyn2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • By far the best Experience ever. Jessica is an incredibly thoughtful kind sweet host. So many surprises- her own homemade granola, honey from her own bees, local soaps and beauty everywhere. It is so quiet you can hear your heart beat. You can see stars. You don’t hear cars or see headlights. If you want to restore your soul, this is the place. Like no other.

    Susan2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful long weekend getaway at Jessica’s place. The size of the guest house was perfect for 2 but there was extra sleeping space for one other guest. She had many special touches such as continental breakfast items, done from local farms as well as local hand soap. The guest house was well appointed with comfy seating spaces, bed and bedding and wake up to the sunrise through the window. Kitchen had all you needed to make a great meal. The property is secluded and quiet. Very good location in Chilmark up-island, near to local beaches, Menemsha and Chilmark and West Tisbury Town Centers. Jessica’s place is open year-round. It’s heated and has a fireplace for cold nights and lots of windows for spring and summer ocean breezes. We loved staying here and wished it could have been longer. Jessica was a great host- kind, caring and responsive, wanting to make sure we had a great time.

    Christine2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Place was tastefully decorated, spotless and had a nice open vibe. All furniture was comfortable. The outdoor shower was awesome and great location as it’s close to local beautiful beaches and local farmers markets. Very private and quiet. Indoor fireplace with a glass of wine and a great open layout to cook in the kitchen. 10 out of 10.

    Annemarie2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Not only was her home lovely, clean, bright and situated in the sweetest setting, but Jessica herself was an fantastic host. Super knowledgeable, approachable, quick, witty and communicative, she was friendly with a laid-back style. The location is even better than we expected, with her own gardens, twinkling lights, and the soft sound of waves in the background. It’s close to the best beaches and farms. Honestly cannot wait to go back. [insert 5 stars]

    Dennis2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn’t have been more pleased with my stay. Jessica is an ideal host. Her property is special and her love for it extends to the space I most happily enjoyed for a few days. So many little things, from her girls to my own box of Chilmark Chocolate and her homemade Honey. Great experience. Just do it.

    Steve2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures really don't do Jessica's place justice- it's such a beautiful space! She was so thoughtful and welcoming, would love to stay there again and would highly recommend it.

  • Jessica is a cool and lovely person. The property is so beautiful and the back house we stayed in was perfect. We didn’t want to leave! It was very clean and had the perfect amenities and she was so great to add some personal touches. We also loved her dogs!! It felt like it was our place when we’d go have a sit on the deck and fetch with the pups. Can’t wait to return and much love to Jessica!

Happily isolated from the bustle of Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven, this tranquil residence a 15 minute walk from the cliffs of Aquinnah offers simple, unpretentious comforts of old Martha's Vineyard.
The raised decks at the front of the house face westward onto fields, the sea and Aquinnah's shimmering sunsets. The grounds are flanked by old stone walls that bestow a seasonal bounty of blackberries, honeysuckle, salt spray roses and the occasional tiger lily. Nestled in the soft slope of a hill, the house combines shared social areas and private sleeping modules with baths and outside showers. Each of these areas connects to the others via a continuous wooden deck with steps down to the lawns. The roof of one unit doubles as a sturdy treetop porch, ideal for cocktails, star viewing, and yoga at dawn. The secluded pool is on the hill at the property's eastern edge; down across the front field, a rustic shack surrounded by scrub oaks provides a perfect retreat from activities in the main house. On sunny days, Aquinnah's public beaches beckon, a 7-minute drive from the house -- or you can drive in the opposite direction and sample the quiet, sheltered beaches of Lobsterville. Both towns preserve the relaxed sensibility and unhurried pace of Martha's Vineyard set apart and far back in time and space.
Very secluded - no other home or buildings can be see from the house.
  • The house was amazing! It suited our needs perfectly. The fact it is on nine acres meant we had the peace and tranquillity we were looking for. The house had such a great character as well. Overall just a wonderful experience. Thanks Adam!

A cozy first floor bedroom in our Vineyard Haven family home is perfect for solo travelers + couples. 5 minute / 10 minute drive from the ferry and airport. The bus to Edgartown stops right in front. A 20 minute stroll to downtown Vineyard Haven. Soak in the sunshine on the wraparound deck and enjoy a cup of coffee on us. Continental breakfast served each morning. We may host up to 2 additional groups of guests so this friendly vibrant home may not be ideal for light sleepers.
Cozy room with full (double) bed, bookcase, closet. Our shared home is bustling and lively with a yoga deck, outdoor shower, BBQ grill and outdoor bonfire pit. Expect a true “bed and breakfast” feel and to meet other guests!
Vineyard Haven is a uniquely historic and artistic community. We have it all! Parks, stores, beach and natural beauty abound.
  • Please see my previous review; I stayed for three days and immediately booked in for two more. “Cozy” says it all!

  • This is an informal, quiet family home a mile from “downtown” Vineyard Haven and the ferry terminal. Antone, Mercy’s brother, was a thoughtful and accommodating host. Fifth generation Vineyard residents, they have local art and ceramics from people they know, and are a good source of local information. I booked for three nights, then added two more!

    Carol2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • It was off season and Mercy was not there so it was not quite what was expected. It was convenient to town.

  • Perfect place for a yoga weekend. Lovely hospitality.

    Rachel2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The house is tucked away from the main road so it is quiet. A great Continental breakfast is provided. A relaxed welcoming house.

  • Mercy’s place was great, very clean and lovely and quiet. It’s within easy walking distance of Vineyard Haven for shops and restaurants. I didn’t meet Mercy but her brother was there hosting and he was very kind and helpful. Great stay!

This light and airy three bedroom apartment features an open floor plan and a virtual window wall of stunning water views. We are literally only 150' from the famous beach "The Inkwell." The restaurants and stores of Circuit Avenue are a 10 minute walk away. The Dunmere was built in 1870 and converted a century later to apartments. This apartment was designed by the architect for his own family's use. In terms of Airbnb's filters, there aren't presets that describe this property accurately. I've chosen "beachfront" as being the most accurate. We are one building in from directly across from the beach. This is a historic building with uncommon, for Oak Bluffs, outdoor space. Properties that are 10 minutes away, 15 minutes away, from the beach are simply not comparable.
Note: due to changes in the law, we're obligated to collect state and local taxes equal to 11.7% upon chec in. While the building is a true Victorian, this penthouse apartment has a contemporary design. Light and air flow through from the virtual window wall facing the Vineyard Sound, a venting skylight, and large windows in each of the other rooms. The front staircase terminates in a small landing at the apartment's door. (Each of our apartments is alone on its level.) Upon entry, one sees straight through into the living room, but could turn right, to the smallest bedroom, or left, directly into the kitchen. The bathroom is off of a small hallway on the other side of the kitchen. The kitchen is small, but fully equipped, with a full sized gas range, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. That opens onto the living room/dining room combination, which is where that wall of windows begin:-) A 32" LCD TV is mounted on the living room wall, if you care about that. Most of us prefer watching the water from the windows, or kicking back in bed with a book and when all is still, listening to the water on the shore. There is Wi-Fi throughout the house for basic life support. The full bath has a tiled shower/bath combination. There is a back stairway to access the shared laundry at the second floor rear. The penthouse has access on Tuesdays and Fridays. The same staircase leads directly to the fully enclosed outdoor shower, if you prefer showering amidst rainbows. (This is quite handy after returning from the beach in reducing the sand both underfoot and in the beds!)
  • We absolutely loved this apartment and the entire Dunmere By the Sea! Bohemian charm and a summer cottage feel. The views are amazing, the yard was great for my six year old to play soccer, and the fun places to go to are a mere five minute walk away. Not to mention, the beautiful Inkwell beach right across the street. Host was great too! We hope to come back!

    Erin2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah is the perfect host. The place was clean, spacious and centrally located to beaches, shops and restaurants. We had such a great time and will be sure to return. Thanks again Sarah!! Ryan

  • Lovely place if you don't mind walking up to the 3rd floor level. Very bright and roomy with lots of windows and a view of Inkwell Beach from the bedroom. At night you can hear the waves crashing against the shoreline. Perfect location with walking access to the beach and a 10 minute walk to the Circuit Ave. shops and restaurants. Older kitchen and bathroom but hey... that's Island living! The host was very responsive to any questions and she was always available if we needed to contact her. There is off street parking at the residence.

    Rick2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the location! It was right across the street from the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The view from the master bedroom of the beach, sunrise and sunset was beautiful. We appreciated the hospitality and the immediate attention to any questions or concerns we had. There were a few small personal touches the host added which really made our stay in a big way. Thank You Sara, Paul and Teddy!

On the hill in the heart of the Menemsha fishing port, this charming cottage is a Vineyard classic with sunset views over the harbor, walk to beach and shops. 1 dble, 1 sing bedrm upstairs, separate twin bunkhouse with WC, quaint little kitchen. Hosts are a multiracial family, welcoming all to enjoy an island that celebrates diversity.
Just steps from the island's most famous sunset beach and the dock where fishermen unload and sell their fresh catch, this little cottage is a piece of Vineyard history, perfect for a totally relaxing family summer. This is the place for those who value antique charm over modern luxury and casual cosiness over extravagant opulence. It comes with access to passes for the islands top beaches, Lucy Vincent and Sqibnocket. There's a kayak so you can explore the ponds, outdoor furniture, sand toys for the kids and a Weber.
Chilmark, for decades the summer choice of presidents on vacation, is the rural part of Martha's Vineyard, famed for its surf beaches, rolling farmlands and thriving fishing culture. If you want vibrant nightlife, it's not here: you need to check out the down island towns like Oak Bluffs. Chilmark is a place for beach combing, fishing, kayaking, woodsy hikes and bike riding. There are yoga studios and horseback rides, fish fresh from the sea and farm stands aplenty.
  • After spending 8 nights last Fall at Geraldine’s 'Basin View' cottage in the village of Menemsha, we returned this year for 12 nights. This time we visited many new places that we missed last year. I think the highlight was Lucy Vincent Beach, about 10 minutes away. Open only to Chilmark residents and renters, it was worth the $85 permit fee. A couple of miles of beach for walking, easy access and parking, portable toilets, and no crowds. For more walking/hiking, go to Polly Hill Arboretum, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, Peaked Hill Reservation and Long Point Reservation. (download the “TrailsMV” app for your phone)
. As noted in the description and in our previous review, while no A/C or dishwasher, the cottage has all the amenities you may need, including wi-fi, washer and dryer, a small but fully equipped kitchen, a fabulous outdoor shower, plenty of books and puzzles for a rainy day, and the perfect front porch for reading, enjoying morning coffee, and sunset cocktails. Unfortunately, the convenience store at the bottom of the hill, the Chilmark Market, had a fire this past winter and has not reopened. That just meant an excuse to explore the island for other food shopping options, like the West Tisbury Farmer’s Market (Saturdays), Alleys General Store, North Tisbury Farm Market and a variety of roadside stands. Fortunately, there are still 2 excellent fish markets in the village a few minutes walk from the cottage. Geraldine is a great resource and responded immediately to all our questions about the cottage and local attractions. We are now planning a return visit in 2020.

  • We loved our time at Basin View. The location was fantastic, Geraldine was terrific and the property was to our liking. Our son loved the bunk house and we all enjoyed the yard, the views and the front porch. Highly recommend.

    Brad2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very special cottage, one of only a few available rentals that overlook Menemsha Harbor. The cottage was built in 1885, and everything feels tiny compared to more modern houses. It took us a while to accept the vibe of this historical cottage, but once we did, we very much enjoyed it. We rented bikes for the week, and took the bike ferry just steps away from the cottage to nearly empty Aquinnah beaches. In the evenings, we got clams and lobsters from the fish store and enjoyed them watching the sun set on Geraldine's porch.

    Nicole2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very charming home. The location is phenomenal.

    Tara A2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Geraldines charming home is in the heart of Menemsha, walking distance to restaurants and the Menemsha beach. We loved our stay there, and would definitely come back. She allowed us to bring our small dog, which made the trip that much more special. The house is a classic MV house. If you are looking for a sleek and modern house, this is not it. This house is much more charming with an outdoor deck overlooking the water. There is a great outdoor shower as well with good water pressure. The house has two bedrooms with full size beds. The side cottage was also very cute, with two double beds and a toilet & sink. Geraldine was also very good about responding quickly to our messages. Don't forget the bug spray, as we did notice many bugs! (not uncommon for the Vineyard) Thanks again Geraldine, we would love to come back and stay.

  • We just spent 8 nights at Geraldine’s 'Basin View' cottage in the village of Menemsha, a wonderful location for a quiet getaway. No fancy resturants or nightlife like "down-island" in Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven or Edgartown, but iIt was just right for the two of us. While no A/C or dishwasher, the cottage has all the amenities you may need, including wi-fi, washer and dryer, a small but fully equipped kitchen, a fabulous outdoor shower, plenty of books and puzzles for a rainy day, and the perfect front porch for reading, enjoying morning coffee, and sunset cocktails. While there is restaurant and a lunch place at the bottom of the hill (1 minute walk), there is also a small grocery store and you have the choice of 2 fish markets (with takeout) less than a 5 minute walk down the hill. The Menemsha Beach is 5 minutes away. Within a 10-15 minute drive are a number of fine restaurants, wonderful beaches and local markets. Geraldine is a great resource and responded immediately to all our questions about the cottage and local attractions. We are now planning a return visit.

  • Once again my stay there was heavenly. I mostly love the retro feel, the old books, the homey kitchen, and the location can't be beat. Watched the sunset from the porch. Can't wait for next year!

Chilmark is the best place in the world. Gorgeous beaches and walks, the best people, great food. Quiet and restorative.
  • We came to Chilmark to go to a wedding and there were a lot of scheduled activities, but this place was so beautiful and peaceful we never wanted to leave. The exterior doesn't begin to suggest how cool the place looks on the inside, and Jessica has dressed it artfully with a lot of art objects, books, etc. There are a lot of comfy places to sit on the inside but our favorite spot was the private yard We spent a lot of times just sitting on the chairs and just chilling. The Chilmark General Store is a ten-minute walk away where we got some delicious sandwiches and supplies--it's also a great place for sitting and people watching. Oh, having a little time with Jessica and her very cool dogs Scout and Kit was a special treat. Five stars all around. The only rough part was we hated to leave.

    Melissa2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This renovated barn is an idyllic getaway that we absolutely hope to re-visit. Jessica has created an incredibly welcoming environment that made us feel like at home immediately. An awesome opportunity to experience authentic Chilmark vibes.

  • This was a 5 star stay for us. Read some of the other reviews and you will get a feel for the place. I'm going to mention a few things that I don't see in other reviews. 1) The outdoor shower was fine. The water is nice and hot and it was magical showering under the stars. We're from Puritan New England so we brought our swimsuits for the shower-do as you feel comfortable with. I'm sure Jessica has seen it all. 2) The listing says 2 bedrooms but I think it is important to know that it is really 1 big room. The sleeping is loft style above the living space and the "2 rooms" is really 1 large room with 2 beds on one side and 1 on the other. So no walls -or privacy-is what I'm saying. This could be important for some to know. 3) The Barn is a very neat place to stay, a great experience. However It is not good for anyone that has difficulty with stairs. The sleeping is up in a loft with a maze of steps. Also I would not recommend this for small children. I would be worried about them falling from the bed down into the entry way. 4) A beach pass comes with the rental. The beach -Lucy Vincent- is very nice. It is 2 miles away and you cannot drive to it -no parking for non residents. So you need to walk, bike, get dropped off or take Uber. If you want to go for the day, another option is Moshup Beach - which is very very nice. It is 20-15 dollars for the day depending on when you get there - and you can drive and park. It is free after 5pm and the sun sets right there. It's great. 5) Finally, this property is pretty old - I think from 1800's. Back then they build right by the side of the road which was dirt and without much traffic. Fast forward to 2019 and if your not use to it, you will notice the noise from the traffic going by. It was no big deal to us, it slows down by the time your into bed. Overall this was a very unique experience, which is the greatest thing about Airbnb. Read the other reviews and you can learn what a great host Jessica is... and more about the property. It is all true.

    Raymond2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • For those that want a unique mixture of old and new... this is the place for you. Take a barn from the 1800s with updates that enhance the beauty of the past with the comforts of today and you are set for an awesome experience. Add the spice of island living as only Martha’s Vineyard can give and it will be very hard to leave! My hostess new just the right touches to make me feel at home and to provide an experience I had not had when visiting the island. I will definitely be back and hopefully will be able to enjoy this renovated barn again!

    Lisa2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • This beautiful little barn is a great place to stay if you are looking for a quaint, serene space, away from all of the touristy things! The attention to detail in both the space and in terms of great recommendations of places to see, eat at, and experience was a great touch! Jessica is great and a wonderful host who makes you feel welcome and comfortable- she is super helpful and sweet and it is clear that she take pride in her property and all of it's amazingness!

    Melanie2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Great location right near Chilmark village and longish walking distance to beach. Very comfortable stylish converted barn. The booking and checking were very smooth. Breakfast was simple but with super local ingredients from the Island which has an outstanding farm to table culture. Friendly dogs in the yard. We hope to have the chance to return.

    David2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great place!

    Jonathan2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • My mother and I stayed in the beautifully restored barn on Jessica's property for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. It was very apparent how much care went into this unique space and it had all the basic necessities to keep us happy. Jessica and her family were gracious hosts, invited us to goat yoga at a local farm, gave fantastic recommendations, and provided a lovey breakfast spread of local products. I especially loved the outdoor shower and playing with their 2 adorable and well behaved pups. Our favorite day involved sitting on the private porch to draw in the morning, going to a gorgeous residents only beach nearby (pass supplied by Jessica) in the afternoon, taking showers in the lovely private garden, and ending the day with a walk over to the general store for a slice of pizza which we enjoyed there in rocking chairs on the deck. Our stay was so peaceful and creatively inspiring, we truly felt like locals. We highly recommend this listing!

This is our beautiful guest house. Nestled in the woods of Chilmark our house comes with deeded access to Menemsha pond, which is just down the quiet dirt road. It is a perfect getaway for a couple.
Beautiful house down a private dirt road in the woods of Chilmark on the island of Martha's Vineyard.
It's where I grew up! Beautiful, private and only a short walk to Menemsha pond.
  • This magical cottage is tucked away but has access to many views and walks in a very picturesque part of MV- UpIsland. I took Elisha's suggestion and walked to Minemsha on an old dirt road; had a cup of lobster bisque at Larsens and walked back (approx 3 miles total). The cottage itself is a well appointed and cozy space. Every detail a delight!

  • Lovely, peaceful, private spot away from the bustle.

    Rich2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Really wonderful place. Cozy in the rain but also a beautiful spot to admire distant menemsha pond from sunny porch. Much nicer than the photos. shower and tub plus outdoor shower. Nice kitchen with everything we needed to make all our meals.

  • Elisha was accommodating and the house is wonderful. Serene up island location.

    Shannon2018-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is one of those places you are reluctant to review because you want to keep it a secret. Elisha is a great host and the cottage is awesome. This is NOT a party house and is off the beaten path away from the hustle and bustle of down island life. If you want to have a relaxing stay at one of he most beautiful places on the planet this is for you.

    Guyton2018-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This house is amazing! Had everything we needed! If your looking for nature and seclusion this place is it! I will be back next summer and I’ve literally never felt that way in the 10 years I’ve been renting in MV. Elisha was a wonderful host and all was easy 🙏🏼

    Lindsey2018-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • This house is great for a couple or small family. It's the perfect little cottage in a beautiful area -- the photos really don't do the house or scenery justice. We stayed here for three nights with our five month old while visiting family on the island. It was a great spot to host our family for an evening, grilling outside and relaxing together. It was also the perfect spot for my husband and I to have some alone time and relax for a bit at night with a glass of wine and in the morning with a good cup of coffee. There's a lot of great spots nearby to visit as well, including Menemsha, where we took our son for his first trip to the beach at sunset. We had a great trip and hope to stay here again next year!

    Marjorie2018-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you want to visit Martha's Vineyard and stay at a quit, secluded and beautiful spot in the woods, I highly recommend staying at Elisha's place. As he will indicate to you, it is a bit tricky to get to, but he will meet you and take you there the first time. The cottage is well worth the effort. Coffee in the morning, on the porch, was delightful.
