Places to stay in Aptos

Places to stay in Aptos
March 15, 29 - April 1st now open. There has been a lot of concern about the Covid-19 virus. We are now sterilizing the hard surfaces in our listings. We are quite isolated here so your exposure risks are much lower than in a city. If you have been exposed to it, please don't make a reservation. We have been listing the Mushroom Dome Cabin with airbnb since July '09 and have had the most reservations of any of their listings - in the world. We have had over 5,000 guests from over 50 countries.
As we are no longer allowed by Santa Cruz county to rent the Mushroom Dome Cabin, we are now listing the LAND of Paradise Suite, a room in our unique home. (LAND: Love And Nature Divine) Make a reservation for the Suite, you will also have unlimited access to the Mushroom Dome.We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds on our deck, pet the goats, go to the beach or gaze at the stars - as long as the moon isn't full. ; - ) During the summer, if there isn't any nightly fog, we can see the Milky Way here. To check our availability, click on the "Request to Book" link. And yes, if it isn't available, it is already booked! If you want to stay here on a weekend, you will usually need to make your reservation request about 6-11 months in advance. We have another listing: the Hummingbird Haven. It usually has more availability. You can find it here: airbnb.com/rooms/6562632 (Please read all of this description before making a reservation request.) The cozy and clean semi-rustic retreat space has a loft under a geodesic dome (the "mushroom cap"). In the loft is a Queen-sized super popular Casper Mattress which allows for very comfortable meditation and/or sleeping and just hanging out. We provide clean sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of blankets are also provided. In the LAND of Paradise Suite, is a double bed as well as a fold out bed, a small fridge, an electric tea kettle, teas, and coffee. Let me know if you want to cook meals here and I'll tell you how. The other "bed" is a couch that we can make up into a bed. If there are going to be 2 of you, but you want separate beds, please make the reservation for 3 or let me know ahead of time - there is a $10. charge for using it as a bed. On the main floor of the Meditation Mushroom retreat (a Pentagon) is the couch a pull-out table and 2 chairs. We provide a small refrigerator, a Hot Air Popcorn Popper (and the kernels), French Coffee Press, an Electric Water Kettle, a wine opener, dishes - and more. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We also have a barbecue grill on the deck with an extra gas burner on the side. We provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, butter, honey, sugar, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter. If you have a baby and you won't be needing the second bed, make your reservation for 2 and let us know if you will need a small pad for the loft. Again, if there are 2 of you but you want to use the second bed, please make your reservation for 3. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and a Natures Head self-contained composting toilet. Some guests have had a problem with our bathroom, so I want to make it clear that we have a curtain for the door to the bathroom and we require that you put your used toilet paper in the trash. (it won't smell) If you follow the instructions for how to use the toilet, it won't have any odor. If you stay here for more than 1 night, you may need to change the pee bucket. We will do it for you if you want, but we do need you to pay attention to the pee level so it doesn't overflow! If the thought of using a composting toilet grosses you out, then don't make a reservation here. ; - ) We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends: Friday to Sunday. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Presidents Day, Memorial Day, M. L. King day, and Labor Day.) But to stay here on a weekend, you will usually have to book the cabin 6 - 8 months in advance - unless you are lucky to find a cancellation! Check-in time is between 4 and 10pm. If you want to come sooner or later, this can sometimes be arranged. Check-out time is noon. As we have experienced some damage from guests, we are now requiring a $100. security deposit. Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, New Leaf (a very large natural food store), restaurants, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as the 10,000 acre Forest Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. (these times are not during rush hour(s) ; - ) If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We usually have about 300 - 600 year-round) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus and Allen Hummers as well. So you have got to see our "Hummingbird Airport" where we feed them about 130 oz. of syrup on a summer day! Please, no smoking or vaping in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin and it is a fire hazard outside. Some cell phones don't work here, but since we have free wifi in the cabin, if your phone works with a wifi network, you are good to call. You can sometimes get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. To learn about things to do in the area, do an internet search for Santa Cruz, CA. Dogs are welcome to stay here but with a few requirements: since we have so many animals, we require that your dogs be kept on a leash when outside (the goats get very nervous with large loose dogs). Also, we don't allow dogs in the loft or on the couch downstairs so please bring a doggie bed. (your doggie can go on the couch if you bring a cover for it) If that is difficult, let us know and we will provide a doggie pillow. We have a gate that we can set up so your dog can be off the leash on the deck. If you are bringing a small child, we can put a folding futon (2/3rds of the futon or a foam pad next to the bed ) Just let us know ahead of time. Keep in mind, though, that a child should not be left in the loft by themselves as the bed is fairly high up against the rail. As we are about 3 miles to the nearest bus stop, it is pretty difficult to stay here without a car. You are invited, if you feel you would be harmonious here. Pet the goats, check out our chickens, cats, miniature dog and enjoy the very fresh air. If you come here when there is no moonlight and the sky is clear, you will see lots of stars. Tired of the heat in the summer? Since we are on the edge of the "fog belt", it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds or crickets chirping, the tree frogs croaking and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional chain saw. : ) (We feed the goats oak branches)
Even though we live only a 8 minute drive to Aptos village and the beaches, it feels very remote and private here. It is usually very quiet at night - sometimes we can hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach. There is lots of land to hike on and explore here as well. We have 8 people living here in a rather loose community.
  • Magical place, closer to Capitola and to great beaches! The mushroom dome is unique, very comfortable and Kitty is a sweetheart. Her dog Elliot is also a formidable companion :) The place invites you to disconnect, enjoy nature, cook, rest. It was the perfect setting to celebrate my partner’s birthday!

    Alisson2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty gave clear directions on how to get to the cabin and even personally met us at the driveway so we could get to know our hostess which was so nice. We were a little put off by the idea of a compostable toilet but after experiencing one and how clean and easy it seemed to maintain we're looking into replacing our standard toilet for a compostable one as well! Her cat milo was so friendly, although I'm allergic I couldn't help but show some love...and take some claritin! The landscaping was breathtaking throughout. Can't wait to come back with a book or two to read and enjoy in the garden. Kitty has a rulebook put together which some may find daunting...but if you read through the rules are pretty common sense. We loved her sense of humor and are looking forward to booking again soon.

  • Quiet, relaxing and quirky...enjoyed my stay!

    Heidi2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever encountered. Such a serene and beautiful environment. Kitty and Michael are incredible hosts and made us feel extremely welcome.

    Kitzia2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very great hosts and Kitty will take the extra time to welcome you and provide a little history about the place. The environment is serene and relaxing especially sitting on the deck drinking coffee and or having breakfast.

    Nada2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael are gracious, kind-hearted super hosts. You will fall in love with the Mushroom Dome; my two friends and I felt at-home very quickly. The location is beautiful, the hosts are absolutely lovely, and the place itself is breathtaking. The bed upstairs is super comfortable and the shower is pleasant as well, with water that warms up right away. The Mushroom Dome is incredibly charming, and hearing about it’s history from Kitty adds another element of awe to your experience. This was my friends’ and I first AriBnB experience, and we feel so lucky to have chosen such a perfect place. None of us stumbled across any issues with our stay, and our entire trip was smooth and enjoyable. If you find dates that work for you, I urge you to book, I can’t imagine anyone regretting this stay!

    Julia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Even if you expect it to be perfect, Kitty & Michael will give your time a chance to expand your concept of perfection

  • This place is the perfect getaway for couples or solo travelers. The outdoor patio, fireplace and bathroom were the highlights of our stay. Highly recommend for anyone interested in a glamping experience.

    Morgan2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie’s place was one of a kind. It was a great way to get into glamping since the place was very unique. The bed was extremely comfortable and the outdoor bathroom set up alone was already enough for us to book the place asap. I would definitely do it again however would take a car with higher clearance to get up a small steep hill

    Gian2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect for a getaway

    Isabel2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • The bnb is as listed, Stephanie was great about making sure I could find the place. The bath house is just lovely and honestly the reason I booked the bnb. As long as you’re prepared to have basic amenities, it’s an absolutely lovely location in the redwoods where you can escape everyday life.

    Marisa2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • The outdoor bathhouse is absolutely magical!! I would stay here again just for the bath house. Stephanie also offered great recommendations on local food and was responsive and quick!

    Luna2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Stephanie’s place was good. We got our privacy. The shower was nice. Would stay here again.

A magical Redwood Treehouse located it the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. There is a live tree growing right through the main living area and another in the bathroom! It is simply incredible. It was built by my friend, Randy, a stained glass artist. Everyone who sees it are delighted by it. Please read entire description before making a reservation request. It has a delicious high-bed, a kitchen with a small stove and refrigerator, and typical cooking tools. There is a full bathroom with shower and toilet of course. There is now a hot-tub at about 103 degrees ready for your soak before bed or a morning treat. The Treehouse is a short walk of a few hundred yards (about four minutes) through the beautiful woods from the parking area. There is a gas stove for heating. There is a TV and DVD player with many movies to choose from. For travelers this is the best of both worlds. A wonderful treehouse nestled in the redwood forest, a short distance to HWY 1(Pacific Coast HWY) the main vein to Monterey, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, Capitola and Santa Cruz and the HWY 101 Corridor. People come from all over the world to experience the Pacific Coast specifically the Monterey Bay area. It is an area rich in history. Here you will find world class art, music, cuisine, golf, surfing, sightseeing, hiking, biking, sunbathing, whale watching, birding, fishing, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and so much more. You can spend the day engaged in a variety of activities, physical and/or cultural. However you spend your day you can return home to a mountain treehouse and quiet. The weather here is excellent. It is located in a micro climate called a ‘banana belt’. Though the beach is only 25 minutes away we are often in the sun when our neighbors in the valley and on the coast are in the fog. Winters are mild we average 25” of rainfall a year. Summers can be warm but delightful. The fog rolling in at night is nature’s air conditioner and everything cools down. The weather is nearly perfect. Fog burns off early enough to make the beaches comfortable all day. The Santa Cruz Mountains are home to Sequoia Sempervirens commonly known as a Redwood Tree. They are native only to a specific part of Pacific Coast region. Come and visit our amazing part of the world and experience something special about the California Coast. All linens are provided. The kitchen has the basic items for cooking, i.e., spices, oil, vinegar, sugar, and tea. Two-night minimum on weekends. THREE-DAY MINIMUM on HOLIDAY WEEKENDS. A 60.00 cleaning fee will be charged per each stay. We are a green establishment. Environmentally friendly cleaning products are used. We ask our guests to consider using fewer towels during their stay and not requesting a sheet change unless your stay is longer than a week. I have a moderate cancellation policy. You must cancel a full seven days before your reservation. Please make sure that you read it thoroughly. You will be charged 50% of your stay if you cancel after the grace period.
  • Unique. Beautiful and special, like something out of a story. Not like any vacation house we've ever stayed in.

    Greta2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stay. Here. Make it a point to spend 2 or 3 days in this remarkable space. The treehouse is amazing, the hospitality is warm, and the opportunity to literally "get away from it all" is priceless. I knew it would be cool. I mean, c'mon, it's a TREEHOUSE. What I didn't know was how a weekend away from the kids could reignite my joyfulness.

    Sara2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous, magical night in the redwoods. Bring a book and someone you love.

    Jeff2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely treehouse with plenty of space and amenities to make your stay comfortable. Beautiful short hike to reach the treehouse. Only downside was that it was nosier than we expected with neighboring homes running saws, leaf blowers and even target practice... we could see a road and other homes so while it was private it was not isolated.

    Liqa2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! A restorative weekend with girlfriends. Kitchen has great supplies for cooking and Mary Jane is very hospitable.

    Sarah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z

Featured by Sunset Magazine as a “chic escape.” Inside, mid-century furniture and architectural details are made of natural materials like wood and stone setting a calming, sanctuary tone throughout. Curl up with a good read by the light streaming through floor to ceiling windows and under soaring wooden beams or tuck in for the evening by closing the sliding doors inspired by Japanese shoji screens. We strive to provide a safe environment for our guests to enjoy. We thoroughly clean and sanitize after each guest. Pets will be considered on a case by case basis. There is a $100 pet fee.
The house is in a secluded, wooded neighborhood with quiet neighbors. Enjoy 3 different decks on the top floor, each with a different ocean or forest view. Inside the home, you will enjoy the clean and comfortable space with luxurious touches throughout. The treehouse comes with all the amenities you need to enjoy your stay. It has 3 bedrooms, a full bath, and a full kitchen with everything you need to make dinner for 6. The house cannot sleep more than 6 people including children of any age. A total of 8 people can be in the house. After 8 pm additional guests need to vacate the premises. This is to ensure the continued use of our permit as well as to respect our neighbors. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We will send you the rental agreement shortly after booking.
The house is located in a quiet secluded neighborhood next to Nicene Marks Redwood Forest State Park, just outside of the city of Santa Cruz. It's perched on top of a small valley, overlooking the ocean. The neighborhood is very quite a private - please do not disturb our neighbors. Absolutely no parties or outside amplified music.
  • Beautiful home, very comfortable stay

  • Janiece was a great host. We had everything we needed. The house was amazing. I loved that the house was close to parks. We had a great time.

    Ankita2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The tree house is chic! The scenery is pretty good too! It's a bit cold in winter, and the heating equipment in the house is not good enough.

    Zhencong2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • My favorite Airbnb by far.

    Karen2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • The treehouse is such a magical place and words cannot fully describe its beauty. During the night of our stay, the forest was filled with fog. Under the moonlight it truly feels out of the world. Waking up to the sunrise, we even saw some deer wandering through the forest outside. Inside of the house is super clean, well organized and comfortable. The bathroom is a bit on the small side. But for us it worked out perfectly fine.

    Huan2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect family getaway. Beautiful place, very well equipped, a unique experience!

    Arjun2019-12-08T00:00:00Z

The caretaker/owner Jay and his partner, Lisa, live on the property, along with 2 cats. We are excited about sharing this slice of heaven with you.
  • This was one of the best air bnb experiences we’ve had! Beautiful location near everything we could hope for! The cabin is such a well thought out space with everything you need! The tub on the deck was truly magical and our favorite past time while staying there! If you appreciate classic rock, the memorabilia was superb! Jay was an excellent host and took really good care of us while still providing us total privacy! Will definitely come back someday!

    Erica2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A special place! Highlight is the back deck nestled in the redwoods. Morning coffee listening to the birds was a dream. Many thoughtful touches like skylights, jacuzzi tub, fireplace and books galore. Short drive brought us hiking in Nisene Marks SP, antiquing in downtown Capitola and trying new beers at Discretion Brewing. Wonderfully relaxing, we plan to return someday.

  • We loved staying here! The hosts were great and the area is beautiful!

  • Perfect place to stay. Clean, private, cool decor, jacuzzi on the deck, about 15 minutes to the ocean. There is even a piano where we taught ourselves to play Somewhere Over the Rainbow. We have traveled a lot in the past couple of years staying at various Airbnb’s & this cottage nestled in the redwoods tops our list. It is a magical place. Thank you Jay & Lisa for being awesome hosts. We hope to return someday. Peace

Stunning Centrally located in the Redwoods, 5 min drive to Ocean, walk to Niceen Marks State park, or to Downtown Aptos and jog to the ocean. This apartment set for 3 adults-1 Queen bed and 1 full pull out sofa bed. Private entrance, Kitchen, and bath. Many windows revealing tree tops giving it a treehouse feel. The hot tub is an experience with the vast forest views. this apartment is located on the bottom floor of the main house. Private kitchen includes oven, fridge, microwave, and toaster
This Serene apartment is loaded with all the comforts of home, with the added luxury of a peaceful outdoor shower and hot tub where an outstanding canopy of trees nestle you in beauty. The space is high in the trees where owls and a multitude of birds call home. It feels like a far removed sanctuary. However, it is just minutes to the hustle and bounty that Aptos and Santa Cruz has to offer. (literally walk to wine tasting and a wonderful variety of restaurants) Deer visit the property throughout the day. It does require a degree of athleticism to enjoy this apartment as it is up 3 flights of concrete stairs
Niceen Marks State Park is walking distance. Yet minutes from the Ocean.
  • What an amazingly peaceful retreat! The apartment is private with its own entrance and a beautiful view. Tawnya was communicative at every step of the way. Went up for a night with some friends, was a perfect spot for 3 people to relax and escape city life. Having a dip in the hot tub in the morning was just an incredible treat! We'll definitely be back :)

    Samantha2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Tawnya's place was lovely. The check-in was smooth, and there were lots of helpful signs and labels around the place to make everything easy to figure out. The space was clean and comfortable, and it was a treat to sit in the hot tub on a cool night. It has a secluded feel, yet you're close to town and lots of things to do. Recommended!

    Rebecca2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great experience staying at Tawnya’s place. Perfect location for an intimate stay. Will definitely book again!

    Aryn2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy, simple yet well equipped. Perfect little retreat place tucked away but close to everything. Wish we could have stayed longer!

    Christy2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent a very nice weekend here while we were in town for a friend's wedding. The location is great--pretty easy to get to from highway 1, but just far enough away from everything to feel very tranquil. We loved being able to get to several beaches and breweries with less than 10 minutes of driving. The space itself is great and cozy. We especially liked the comfy bed, listening to the owls at night, and the treats in the kitchen--it's so nice not to have to go out when you need a quick snack or coffee.

    Dane2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • I'm SO glad I found this little slice of heaven for my birthday weekend with two girlfriends. It's beyond peaceful and rejuvenating, tucked right in the trees. The space is perfect and sprinkled with the most thoughtful touches. It felt like a spiritual retreat. Tawnya was an amazing host -- she went above and beyond to help with a birthday surprise and also provided recommendations on where to eat (lots of vegan options in the area!). We even had everything we needed to cook dinner one night in the super cute kitchen. Great location and easy to get to both Santa Cruz and Capitola.

    Holly2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This house is enchanted, perched in the beautiful Redwoods. It felt like a true getaway. The jacuzzi was absolutely perfect for star gazing at night. And it’s right around the corner from the best BBQ I’ve ever had and an amazing forest for exploring. The host was very kind and considerate! I accidentally left my bathing suit in the room, and she promptly offered to send it straight to my house! I definitely recommend this stay and hope to be back some day!

    Jessica2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely the perfect little getaway! The fireplace heater built into the wall next to the bed was the cherry on top!

Perfect Central Coast location to explore all of Monterey Bay's treasures, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, beautiful old growth redwoods, Santa Cruz mountain wineries, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, trail rides thru redwoods, and just a five minute walk to our own Seacliff Beach. Relax in the sunporch with your continental breakfast. Cyclists touring thru can store bikes safely and chill out.
Attached to the main house, this private entrance to your own personal retreat includes a queen size bed, private bath, plenty of closet space, and access to the attached sun porch. The adjoining sun porch is a great place to enjoy your morning beverage or an afternoon glass of wine. We'll provide morning snacks to kick off your day, plus a coffeemaker, mini-frig and microwave are in the sun porch for guests. Netflix, Pandora, Amazon Prime and more are available through Roku streaming as well as iPod-ready connections. This is a quiet family neighborhood close to local restaurants (see guidebook), with a short walk to Seacliff State Beach on Monterey Bay, where you can take morning or evening beach walks and watch the dolphins, seals and otters play. When in season, you may see whales visit close to the Concrete Ship. For cyclists, we are located along a popular route for cycle touring down the coast, and guests can store bicycles securely in our home.
Just south of Capitola and Santa Cruz, this is a quiet neighborhood within walking distance to Seacliff State Beach and wharf leading to the Concrete Ship. Popular restaurants, Manuel's (Mexican), Ambrosia (Indian), Route 1 (Pizza), Hole In The Wall (American breakfast and lunch) and Marianne's Ice Cream (yum!), as well as a convenience store are all down the street in a few minutes walk. Another couple minutes walk or short drive leads to a shopping center with Safeway supermarket (big), coffee shops, deli, bakery and other shops and eateries. For music in the area, the main venue's are Kuumbwa, Moe's Alley, The Rio, The Catalyst, Flynn's (formally Don Quixotes) and Golden State Theater, and in the summer the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has free concerts, then there's also the local Santa Crux Derby Girls. Some highlights for incoming local events can be found in the local Good Times newspaper and the venue's above. ----------------
  • Amazing space. Has everything you need for a weekend getaway — and more! The beautiful sun room is lovely in the morning, and the garden is gorgeous. A short walk to the beach, lots of restaurants nearby, and very cozy. Loved it! Hope to stay again.

    Liz2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute private add on to their house, perfect for 2! Mark and Jan were very creative with their makeshift “kitchenette” we were impressed! They left great breakfast options that we weren’t expecting; pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, orange juice, and cereal with Keurig coffee (we loved the pastries!). In the room there is a binder full of information about the area. Apparently there is an abandoned concrete ship near their house, that was really cool the see! Also they are walking distance from Marianne’s Ice Cream shop that was ridiculously good. Mark and Jan responded quickly to all my questions and were super helpful to make my husband’s birthday a fun one. We enjoyed our stay!

    Jesika2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • I wish it were possible to give more than five stars for how much I enjoyed my stay. The space was nice and cozy and the host was very friendly and hospitable. I was extremely happy with my stay and would recommend this space to anyone seeking peace and serenity as they tour the area.

    Mykelle2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • I don’t want to give an honest review, because I would hate for this place to not be open on a weekend I want to stay there, but it was perfect. Mark and Jan have a wonderful place near the beach. The room is great, but the sunroom really makes this place pop. If you don’t spend time in the sunroom, you are really doing yourself a disservice. If you are staying in the area and want wonderful hosts and an amazing place to stay, you really can’t go wrong staying here. If you somehow have a bad time staying here, it has to be something you did wrong, because Mark and Jan did everything right with this space.

    Jacob2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • My stay in mark and Jan’s place could not have been better. Both the value and the cookies were excellent!!! Thank you both!

  • tranquil. peaceful. easy self check in with a code will bring you to a beautiful private space. sunny yard, comfortable and bright sun room, extremely clean and comfortable living area inside. space heaters warm the place up quickly when the sun isn't shining. everything about the place is plush and cozy. in a quiet and safe neighborhood, short walk to the ocean, birds chirping in the morning. mini fridge and dishes, everything you need to prepare a snack or enjoy take out. there's coffee and tea, creamer and munchies (even homemade treats!). two of us stayed here for a couple nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time. thank you Mark and Jan for offering this lovely space.

Welcome! Relaxing, comfortable private coastal studio with a 5 minute flat stroll along the creek to RDM Beach awaits you. BBQ on the patio! Don’t miss the sunset. Walking distance to Cafe Rio, Pixie Deli, coffee shop & Sea Cliff Shipwreck. Fun activities include wine tasting, hiking in Nisene Park, paddle boarding, biking, lounging on the beach, swimming, surfing, bonfire at the beach, dog walking and more! Not too far from Capitola Beach, Beach Boardwalk or kayaking at Moss Landing.
The Studio is detached from the main house and has it's own private entrance. In the front of the home. Attached full bathroom with shower. Kitchenette includes a small refrigerator, sink, counter, microwave, portable burner, toaster oven and cooking gear, plates and utensils. Propane BBQ grill on your private patio. The setting is very tranquil, surrounded by beautiful, old Oak and Maple trees with the sounds of birds chirping and very light and bright. The home is located on a quiet one way street. TV has a roku for streaming and Wifi internet and all other utilities are included. Open outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach with HOT water. Plenty of street parking in front. House is located across from the creek so it's quiet with no neighbors across the way, on a one way road. Dogs are welcome. There is a $25 per pet fee. We love pooches.
I love walking down the creek to the beach and the walkway to Sea Cliff Beach Pier and looking out at the Shipwreck. Love sitting outside at Cafe Rio and ordering the grilled artichoke. This area is pretty mellow and the ocean really is a marine sanctuary. I always see seals by the shore and dolphins frolicking about and certain times of the year loads of whales. Free admission to Sea World out there and with the birds and everything it's like something out of National Geographic at times.
  • Liz has such a nice place! We had a great experience. She was quick to respond and wanted to make sure our stay was great (which it was). We loved how close the beach was (5 minute walk) and there were quite a few restaurants close enough to walk. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

    Justin2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • great spot for single traveler or a couple! amazing location, so close to the beach! very clean and cozy (:

    Carmen2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Liz's over a weekend to get away from it all for a little bit. Liz was quick to respond and communication was a breeze. Check-in was extremely easy as well. The best part about the bnb was how close it was to the beach. We had planned to spend most of the weekend in Santa Cruz but the Rio del Mar beach just a few blocks away from the bnb ended up being a much better idea and is where we ended up spending most of the weekend. Also, the bed was ridiculously comfy. Would definitely recommend both Aptos and Liz's bnb if you're looking for a low-key and relaxing get away.

    Kat2020-02-23T00:00:00Z

  • I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Liz’s place. Easy walking access to the beach, just as she indicated. The neighborhood feels very safe and family oriented. Everything was immaculately clean and it was really nice to have a private patio to use. The location is close to Aptos Village which has a nice strip of restaurants, bars, etc. I would definitely recommend this place and stay there again if/when I am in the area.

Because of past issues there are some rules: The passes must be returned IN PERSON, which means if you use them on the same day of check out you'll have to find a way to get them back to us that evening. If you want to use them on the day of your check in, you may swing by in the morning to pick them up. Please give me enough notice to be sure I can have them in the studio for you when you check in (if you wait until you are already here, I may not be able to get them to you), so when you book please mention you plan on using them. Feel free to ask if you need any additional supplies or have any questions. 2 uncovered outdoor parking spots, to the right of our driveway.
Conveniently located: We are 1.5 miles up a moderately windy mountain road (no shoulders, but possible to walk esp in the daylight) from the historic Aptos village in the picturesque town of Aptos. 1.7 miles to the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park: For hiking and mountain biking in the Redwoods. Miles and miles of trails! 1.5 miles to the Rio Del Mar State Beach: Home of “The Cement Ship.”  A local landmark, the S.S. Palo Alto, is docked at the end of the fishing pier.  An experimental concrete ship built as a tanker at the end of World War I, “The Cement Ship” now serves as an artificial reef for marine life. On the south side of the pier, Rio Del Mar Beach is THE spot for dog lovers and beach fires. 1.7 miles Seacliff State Beach: The perfect spot for a seaside picnic, complete with barbecue grills and shaded tables along the sand.  The long stretch of sand here is a favorite spot for RV campers. 3.8 miles (15 min drive) from Capitola Village : Capitola City Beach is a sandy beach at the north end of Monterey Bay in Capitola, CA. It’s a popular urban beach that can be jam packed on sunny days and during beach events. This south-facing beach has a large fishing pier, Capitola Wharf that sticks out into Soquel Cove where the water is usually calm due to protection from land west of here. The point beyond the east end of the beach gets waves and is a popular surfing area. Behind the beach is a lagoon formed by Soquel Creek which has birds at times putting on a show. Next to the creek are town homes in an area called the Venetian Hotel. These picturesque homes have bright multi-colored facades and form a perfect backdrop to this excellent beach. Also behind the beach are several restaurants and shops along the Esplanade. Lifeguards on duty during busy times. In the evenings during the warmer months at Capitola Beach they show movies, have twilight concerts, and host art shows while live music plays on the Esplanade Stage. Metered parking spaces can be found next to the beach on Esplanade and adjacent side streets. 2.9 miles from New Brighton State Beach: New Brighton State Beach is sheltered from most of the heavy surf that reaches the Santa Cruz coast, making it a popular spot for enjoying the waves. Boogie boarding, skim boarding, and similar sport are popular here. It is also a good place from which to launch kayaks for a paddle up the coast to Capitola Beach. 8.8 miles (20 min drive) from Downtown Santa Cruz: santacruz.org 7.5 miles (15-20 min drive) from SC Beach boardwalk: the last of the great seaside amusement parks remaining in the United States and home to two National Historic Landmarks – the 1911 Looff Carousel and 1924 Giant Dipper wooden roller coaster.

Pack up the beach towels and head out to explore the stunning nearby coastline, then light the barbecue for a relaxed family dinner in the leafy backyard. Snuggle up in a fluffy robe in front of Netflix, or kick back in the rustic, wicker armchair.
As an artist, I'm deeply interested in aesthetics. I think I've succeeded in creating a beautiful, restful venue for relaxation. The queen size bed overlooks a bird sanctuary over the Valencia Creek watershed. The kitchen includes a fridge stocked with goodies, toaster oven, microwave, coffee pot, French press and cooktop for light cooking. You're welcome to use the oven/stove in the main kitchen with prior arrangements. A backyard gas barbecue is available for heavier cooking (or if you're planning to cook fish!) Hairdryer and shampoo are available in the spacious private bath. Thick terry robes are provided for your comfort, and beach towels and chairs if you decide to spend some time on one of our beautiful beaches. There's a large flat screen smart TV complete with Netflix. Lots of reading material and a writing desk are also here for your use. You have a private entrance with a coded entry.
This home is close to the beautiful beaches of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary and the Forest of Nisene Marks, just a mile from Aptos village, south of Santa Cruz and the Boardwalk and north of Elk Horn Slough and The Monterey Bay Aquarium.

  • This may well be my favorite AirBnB that we have visited. It is so cozy and charming with colorful art, and well stocked with thoughtful amenities. There is a comfortable bed and a generous supply of towels. There is plenty of space for two people with a nice sized living area. I appreciated the lovely lights on the path to the private entrance. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

In your own little oasis, enjoy the hum of hundreds of Hummingbirds flying outside your window and the beautiful view we offer from your large private patio or from the deck. The Hummingbird Haven is alive with nature yet very peaceful. It is a wonderful place to recharge, relax or have a retreat.
If you are familiar with the Mushroom Dome Cabin that we offer through airbnb, then you will have an idea of the wonderful place we live. We require a 2 day minimum reservation on the weekends. Please make it from Friday to Sunday (or more) as we need to have at least one day a week free: we don't want people to arrive on Saturday. The Hummingbird Haven is a unique space with plenty of privacy yet with expansive views that look south and west with wonderful views of the tree covered ridge across the canyon and our little fruit tree orchard below. Outside is a covered patio with a fountain and garden, 2 loveseats, a small table and chairs, a BBQ, and hummingbirds galore (about 200 - 600!). It is a great place to just relax and take in the peace and vibrant nature around us. The main bed is a very comfy semi-loft Queen bed, (up 3 steps and has 1-side access), and the studio sofa can convert to a single bed. (Please let us know ahead of time if you want the studio sofa made up as a bed. There is a $10. charge for this. see below for more instructions) We have a 48 inch LED Samsung TV in the Haven with a dvd player (and over 80 movies for both adults and children). We also now have Direct TV! And the WiFi has no password. Of course we provide a made-up bed(s) with clean sheets as well as towels. The room doesn't have any air conditioning since we live in a very temperate climate (it doesn't get humid or very hot) and it is built into the side of a hill so the earth keeps it comfortable year round. We have a space heater if you should need any extra heat. There is a refrigerator and sink in the room as well as an electric coffee/tea pot to heat up your water. We provide coffee and tea bags. We also have a cupboard full of dishes. Let us know if you want to cook here. If your party of 2 doesn't want to share the queen bed in the loft, please make your reservation for 3 and we will then make up the extra bed for you. If there will be just 2 of you, but you want the extra bed and are going to stay here for more than 2 days, please email me before you make your reservation and I will give you a discount for the extra bed. Of course if there will be 3 of you, please make the reservation for 3. Exception: you have a baby that will share your bed or you will bring a pack-an-carry. By the patio is the small fancy bathroom (aka an "outhouse") with a water-less, odor-free Nature's Head composting boat toilet and hot running water. You'll find a hair-dryer there too. At the other end of the patio is an outdoor slate shower (with hot water!) which closes off with a wood door. If you are tall enough, you can see over the top of the door, or you can just leave the door open and enjoy the full experience of an outdoor shower. There is also a roll-down shade to help block out any wind or to provide shade if you need it. There is plenty of privacy! We also provide a beach blanket and beach towels and some games. We have a small "farmette" here with 3 friendly goats, a flock of chickens, a tiny dog, Elliot, (who love to meet new people) and 2 cats. (The black and white tuxedo cat, Milo, will come visit you. We don't allow him into the Haven however.) Did I mention the Hummingbirds? During the summer we not only have the year-round Annas, but also migratory Allen and Rufous. We feed about 120 oz. of "nectar" per day during the summer and 32 oz in the winter! As we feed them along the Haven patio and the deck right above, you will see and hear the beautiful and lively hummers all day long. (you are welcome to hang out on the deck above the Haven's patio if you want to see a Hummer feeding party.) We also have trails on our property which I will be glad to show you. Surrounded by nature, yet we are an eight minute drive to the conveniences and facilities of Aptos Village and the 10,000 acre Forest of Nisene Marks with picnic areas and miles of hiking and biking trails. We are less than 10 minutes to the Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beaches, part of a complex of over ten miles of beaches. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz and the Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park and 45 min. to Monterey. (assuming it is not rush hour ; ) If you plan far enough ahead, you can book both the Hummingbird Haven and the Mushroom Dome Cabin for a larger group. (However we don't allow loud, raucous parties.) Please don't smoke here in the Studio or on the property.
The guests that we have had in the Mushroom Dome Cabin are amazed by the quiet and peaceful nature of our area. At night, you will hear lots of crickets, maybe an owl or a tree frog and sometimes the ocean waves crashing in the distance. In the summer, you can see the Milky Way as we are far enough away from city lights that, on a clear night, you can see quite a lot of stars. The Monterey Bay is one of the most vibrate marine sanctuaries in the world - sometimes hosting the largest gathering of marine mammals in the world. We have various whales here year round with whale watching tours daily. Check out our reviews of the Mushroom Dome Cabin to get feedback from our guests of our property. (airbnb.com/rooms/8357). If you plan ahead, you can have a larger group here by reserving both spaces.
  • This is such a peaceful and calm place—I would highly recommend to everyone!

  • My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Kitty's place, which is nestled on a wooded hillside just a short drive from Aptos. Kitty met us when we arrived to show us the place and gave us some great tips on local places to check out. The apartment was super cozy and warm, and we loved how serene and peaceful it was to hang out on the patio and watch the hummingbirds. Kitty was a great host, and we really enjoyed chatting with her and meeting her friendly dog Elliott and sweet cat named Milo. Highly recommend Kitty's place for anyone looking to have an escape from city life!

  • "back to nature" sort of a place. A unique experience. The host was nice and so were the pets. We had a 2 year old with us.. She seemed to enjoy the company of the pets especially.

  • This place is magical. If you need a little disconnect from the world and a reconnect with yourself, nature and your Higher Power - this is it! Truly a hidden gem.

    Michelle2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay. The space itself is quaint and beautiful, but the hosts are what really make this place special. They are wonderful human beings. My friend and I a chance to sit and talk to Kitty and man... if you want some good conversation and stories you should definitely get to know her. Great home, great people, awesome energy. I feel so inspired after this stay.

  • Loved it here! (: Bathroom was definitely a interesting experience, but we had an amazing time. Kitty is the sweetest!

    Kim2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures can't fully capture the beauty and peaceful energy of the Hummingbird Haven -- the suite is BEAUTIFUL, clean, and equipped with everything you could possibly need (popcorn machine, lots of games and DVDs, cooking supplies/utensils, and Wi-Fi if you can't get off the grid). The hummingbirds - an absolute wonder to watch so many birds soaring back and forth between the various feeders. We captured so many beautiful photos on our phones and DSLR. Kitty was an incredibly sweet and attentive host who truly made us feel welcome at the haven. Although nestled in the woods, just ~5-10 minutes away, we had access to food, gas, groceries, etc. Drove a bit further out and we were hiking in the Redwoods and relaxing on the beach. If you've been eyeing the mushroom dome, I would strongly consider a stay at the Hummingbird Haven, as it offers the same host, hospitality, and views -- with an even homier feel. We feel blessed to have had this visit and would gladly come again and stay on either property.

    Jennifer2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael were both great hosts! Kitty greeted us and gave us a tour and explanation of the space and property. They made us feel very welcomed. The space was comfy and the view was gorgeous. We saw quite a few hummingbirds, and the goats!

Relax in your own forest retreat in the beautiful redwoods of Nisene Marks State Park, yet amazingly only 2. 3 miles from Rio Del Mar beach. You’ll love the cozy fireplace, the views, and it's proximity to Aptos Village. The location is ideal if you want to begin your day with a bike ride or a hike through the forest. Or you may want to take the short drive or cycle to the beach, soak up some sun, catch some surf and listen to the waves splash against the sand until the sunset.
The Fox's Den is not suitable for children under 12 years old based on AirBnB safety guidelines. The Fox's Den has an open plan living area with a vaulted ceiling, loads of windows and skylights that allows for great natural lighting. The 360 degree views of the redwoods allow you to feel at one with nature. In the evening you may hear the sounds of the forest denizens, like crickets and owls, as you relax in front of the fire and look out to the stars. Modern creature comforts abound indoors, with WiFi internet, large TV with Hulu, Netflix & DVD, and a washer and dryer. There are brand new furnishings, tastefully chosen to make your stay as relaxing as possible. The spacious 100% organic fiber couch is as environmentally friendly as it is comfortable and beautiful. The queen size bed is a sumptuous pillow top and medium support mattress, with luxury cotton sheets, and a cozy down alternative comforter. There is a full kitchen and breakfast bar as well as a more formal dining table, perfect for romantic evening meals. For even more dining options there is a private deck, great for taking your morning coffee, or an ideal spot to unwind in the evening before dinner.
  • A beautiful home among the redwoods! Great amenities and sparkling clean! Quiet and peaceful.

    Gary2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed here twice and have loved it both times! Nestled close enough to town to have easy access to what ever you need (including grocery stores and close access to the highway) but far enough away to feel like an escape. Great proximity to Nisene Marks if you’re a hiker - I totally recommend spending a day there. The redwoods are breathtaking. Laura was helpful and responsive. The place is always clean, welcoming and is missed the moment we leave. Thanks again!

    Jessica2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The space was comfortable and relaxing, loved the skylights. My husband saw a fox!

    Amarina2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the proximity to Aptos, Santa Cruz, beaches, and redwoods. The cleanliness, amenities, and overall space of the Fox Den made us feel like home, everything we needed and nothing we didn't. Laura was responsive and very accommodating and open to trying to help us with our constantly changing plans. We will definitely be trying to book here again!

    Kristine2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, clean and quiet. What a well planned space! LOTS of windows with natural light streaming through the redwoods. Having use of a washer and dryer turned out to be very handy after we went for a fun, peaceful and muddy hike in the forest. Laura has thought of everything from small basket of towels to be used for wiping the dew from the patio furniture to the nice bottle of red wine that greeted our arrival.

    Eric2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space, tucked in the redwoods! I hope to come back when it's warmer to enjoy the back deck that smells of the redwoods and seems absolutely perfect for a book and a cup of tea. Loved all the light in the space and how quiet it was; close enough but far enough away. If you're really tall, the shower may be a challenge as the showerhead is low, but otherwise, the space is gorgeous and I will definitely look for it again when I am in the area!

    Nichole2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in a quiet beautiful area. It's quite tranquil and relaxing. Loved the ceiling windows. The place is very nicely decorated with foxes as a main theme - it's called The Fox Den for a reason. There are detailed instructions printed, so I had almost no questions. And Laura had promptly responded to a few ones I've had. The place has no mobile coverage, only WiFi. I'm on Ultra Mobile (T-Mobile's network) and had no signal. Laura mentioned that Sprint works there, though. Voice over WiFi worked, and there's a landline available as well. I've been there for a week, on a business trip (so was only there in the evenings), and I've definitely enjoyed my stay.

    Aleksei2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Den was a great place for us to rest and enjoy! The location is fantastic and Laura was a great host. This stay is a great catch for anyone looking for a restful time.

Our studio is close to many attractions that Santa Cruz has to offer. Not too far from the beach, fabulous restaurants and State parks with an abundance of hiking, running and mountain bike trails. Space has a private entrance, separate from the rest of the home. Perfect for a little getaway, or business travel. Although we prefer 2 guests we can accommodate a third for an additional $15.00/night. We require a 2-night minimum stay.
This cozy unit has a couch, ottoman, flat screen TV, high top pub table with two chairs and a full bathroom. There is a small kitchen area, including a refrigerator, microwave, Keurig coffee machine. We also provide drinking water, coffee/creamer, snacks and light breakfast options. While you're not out and about enjoying our beautiful surroundings, we have WiFi and premium Direct TV with many movie and music channels to choose from. There is a queen-size bed, with an incredibly comfortable feather top, and extra pillows & blankets if needed. We understand that not all like or can enjoy a soft bed (while others love it), so we are more than happy to remove the feather-topper if one does prefer a more firm bed to sleep on. We also provide towels, washcloths, the essentials (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toilet paper and paper towels). A hair dryer, and iron/ironing board are included as well.

  • Great space for two people to stay for a long weekend or short trip in the Santa Cruz area. It had all the basic amenities you’d need except for a kitchen, which was fine because they are plenty of restaurants and shops in close driving distance. Very easy to access of the main highway 1. Would rebook again!

This sweet spot is a short walk to the famous Rio Del Mar beach and is lived in by a down to earth, local, paraplegic girl who keeps her house clean and beautiful!
This room is a wonderful and affordable alternative to paying for a room at the Rio Sands hotel, which is only a few blocks away from this house but ranges from around $150 to $300, not including price hikes during local events and holidays. This way, you can take the extra money you're saving and use it on surfing lessons, stand up paddle boarding, the Boardwalk, wherever! The room is separated by the kitchen from my room, so there are no shared walls which gives you more privacy. The room is: 1 Bdrm with 1 Queen Bed / Shared Bathroom + Large closet solely for your personal use included with hangers + Large desk/workspace with desk chair + In room mini fridge + Large TV with access to Netflix and a DVD player + Alarm clock + Coffee maker right outside your bedroom door with complimentary coffee and tea + Separately bottled shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and sunscreen included in room for your use + Disposable paper plates, utensils, cups and napkins included in room for your use + Full use of kitchen is permitted as long as the dishes used are washed and put to dry in the drying rack and the messes are cleaned up. The food in the refrigerator in the kitchen is not for guest use, that is why there's a mini fridge provided in your room. However, the coffee and tea displayed next to your room are complimentary and you're free to use the coffee maker/teapot. + Full use of the NEWLY remodeled bathroom is permitted and white bath towels will be provided for your use in your room. I ask that you do not use any of the toiletries that are in the bathroom as they belong to me, with the exception of the toiletries provided for you in your room. + Beautiful front yard garden with seating, fire pit, and BBQ. + Outdoor shower available for guest use. At the start of each stay fresh bed sheets, blankets and towels are provided and care is taken to sweep, mop and disinfect your bedroom and the shared bathroom. I like to live in a clean environment and believe that it's important to provide the same kind of cleanliness for my guests that I would like to see for myself while I'm traveling.
Rio del Mar is a very well known area and has one of the most famous beaches in Santa Cruz County. This house is within walking distance of the beach, the Seacliff stairs, the famous cement ship, Nicene Marks and many more beautiful places. There is a golf course, tennis club, skate park minutes away in Aptos, and of course the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk!
  • A wonderful place to stay! Nicole (and her pup Charlie!) are welcoming and easy going. The space was clean and super convenient to the beach.

  • Nicole’s home was adorable & inviting! The bedroom was tidy & the bathroom was sparkling clean, with a great shower head & ada accessibility. Her & her dog, Charlie, were very warm & welcoming. We would stay here again! Highly recommend!

  • Nicole has very clear communication about how to check in, where to park, and how to find her place. She messaged me a few days before and was communicative throughout our stay. We didn’t have the opportunity to meet Nicole and Charlie in person. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the room. The bathroom is shared and has a fancy Toto toilet. Shower head has great pressure. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Nicole’s place and would recommend others to stay with her.

You can also walk to restaurants, bars and cafes in Rio del Mar and Seacliff Village, or drive about a mile to find shopping, restaurants, and grocery stores in Aptos Village. Our guest studio is ideal for business travelers, vacationers, couples with very young children and anyone who would like to enjoy the peace and quiet of a forest setting. We are located on the Central Coast 40 minutes from Monterey & Carmel, 20 minutes from Santa Cruz and 15 minutes from Capitola Village. Nisene Marks State Park is a twenty minute walk from our home or a ten minute drive. The drive from Aptos Village to our home is 1.8 miles along Cathedral Drive, it is a narrow winding road that follows the curves of Aptos Creek. You will see towering redwoods along the way. Definitely watch for deer, quail and turkeys that frequently cross the street. We will have white lights on along our redwood staircase. There are no street lights along Cathedral, so after sunset it will be dark, just drive slowly. It is an adventure and totally worth the short drive, if you want to be away from the city lights.
Our home is located in Mangels Gulch next to Nisene Marks Park, our home is in the woods facing south with plenty of sun exposure. You will feel as if you are miles away from the rush of life. In reality, you will only be two miles from the Village of Aptos, where you will find a few interesting shops, cafes and a variety of restaurants. You can also walk out your door and be surrounded by coastal redwoods! You may notice my rates are slightly higher than other similar AirBnb accommodations. The reason for this is simple, my guests not only have a sweet place to sleep, but they also are able to have an EXPERIENCE! A mini vacation where guests are spoiled. The fires are prepared for them, they can cook on the bbq, use the private hot tub and enjoy the evening by the fire. All your dishes are washed for you and returned for further use. Staying here is a complete experience, you will be pampered and catered to during your stay. Your privacy will also be respected. The addition of the Hot Springs hot tub is a real bonus, but also requires more cleaning time. The filters are cleaned, pH is balanced and the water is kept at the correct level of chlorination before each guest arrives. The drive to our home is along a narrow road that follows Aptos Creek, so as a creek will curve so does the road to our home. There are towering redwoods, wildlife frequently cross the road, so please drive slowly and enjoy the beautiful two mile drive! There are no street lights along the way. If you plan to arrive after dark there will be whites lights on along the redwood stair case to light the way for you.
  • Delia is a great host! She made granola for our breakfast in the morning and stoked a fire for us at night. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet here, especially sitting in the hot tub under the stars!

  • Deli is a warm and gracious hostess from the moment you reserve with her. She is attentive from beginning to end. There are so many wonderful things to mention about this place, I don’t even know where to begin! First of all, Aptos provides the beautiful setting, but Delia does the rest. Just think... hot tub fun under the stars... a cozy fire pit and a glass of wine... warm scones in the morning... complete bliss! After a long day of traveling, Delia’s place was just what the doctor ordered. I highly recommend this Airbnb!

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kindest woman who loves her space and sharing it with others. Left little thoughtful touches throughout the space for a birthday we were celebrating. A must stay!

  • Delia's home is a beautiful retreat in the midst of old growth redwoods. We felt right at home and enjoyed DELICIOUS hot homemade scones and granola in the morning after a night of lounging in the hot tub, in front of the fire, and luxurious sleep. Delia was respectful of our privacy, available for any questions, and recommended local hikes. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Shanti2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful space and Delia was very friendly. The space was clean and well kept. I really appreciated that she told us about some local hikes and gave us fresh, delicious granola in the morning with milk. Thank you!

Tucked away in the towering redwoods this lush escape is awaiting travelers looking to relax, explore and enjoy. Go for a hike in a nearby state park, explore the coastline or luxuriate in the private hot tub. Whether you're coming for the sights, the scenes, or just relaxation, you'll love staying here because of the comfort, quality, and amenities. We also have a great tour guide to help you plan your visit or show you around. http://policypillars.com/santa-cruz-tour-guide.html
Our wonderful tiny cabin which sits tucked behind a private redwood gate, overlooking the hot tub and the flagstone landscaped courtyard lush with foliage. Inside the cabin there is a small table with chairs with basic kitchen amenities provided for you. There is also a full bathroom, but hot water is limited so please conserve!Upstairs is the cozy, low ceilinged loft, fit with a deluxe memory foam queen mattress and matching memory foam pillows. The loft is perfect for relaxation and rest, but do mind your head on the low ceiling! Fresh bedding is always provided for every guest. The hot tub is located just in front of the building and is for your personal use. The area surrounding it is landscaped with pebbles and beautiful flagstones, and there is a sitting area with a firepit provided for you.
Our home is located just 15 minutes from the beach and Route One. You will feel as if you are miles away from the city. But you are only two miles from Aptos Village. Which boasts a variety of boutiques, antique shops, and restaurants. Aptos is also home to a community college, hotels, and many beaches. The area surrounding the house is a classic coastal redwood forest. Nisene Marks State Park is a 20-minute hike from your door. We have a variety of wildlife that wanders by our home. Besides deer, you may see our neighborhood fox, coyote or wild turkeys! There is an abundance of birds who vocalize throughout the day, beginning early morning. The drive to our home is along a road framed by redwoods that follow Aptos Creek. Deer and quail cross the road along with other wildlife, so please drive slowly and enjoy the two-mile trip!
  • This tiny house is set within the Redwoods, but also close to beaches. Capitola is a beautiful place and worth a visit. As is big basin redwoods state park. Relax at night in the roomy hot tub and you will not want to leave. Perfect place to stay if you're planning on driving the Pacific coastal road as part of your trip, which is absolutely stunning.

  • Anne’s tiny house cottage is a charming and delightful retreat tucked away in an idyllic forest getaway! Her hospitality was top notch! Highly recommended!

    Meg2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fabulous! The large tiny house door and ample private outdoor space really made the tiny house feel bigger. Also, it’s a tiny house- I’m surprised to have read some of the reviews complaining about size. Pictures are accurate and there was even more outdoor space than anticipated. The loft was quite spacious as well. I went solo for three nights and it all felt very private- loved the jacuzzi and so much to do nearby. Did lots of hikes and beaches; even drove the 80min for a day in Big Sur. It’s amazing how remote the location felt and yet plenty of grocery shopping/places to eat within minutes (and again, beaches!). Happened to see Anne when I arrived, she was very kind and sweet with a quick tour then otherwise I didn’t see a soul! Highly recommend and will certainly be returning :)

    Alexia2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, quaint, little place, with an incredible ambience. In the middle of the forest, with a jacuzzi, under the stars- it doesn’t get much better than this. Would recommend 100%.

    Kaily2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Anne’s Redwood Retreat was everything we wanted for our romantic overnight / home base for a mountain bike weekend. Anne turned the heat in early so the guesthouse was nice and toasty when we arrived. The space is definitely cosy but was just right for the two of us, and the loft was really comfy with inviting lighting. The backyard and neighborhood are lovely. We didn’t get to use the hot tub but hope to return before too long!

    Anne2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Anne's! It was such a cute, cozy place to stay and she offered so many items that helped us cook and made our trip easier. The area is beautiful and she gave extremely helpful directions!

    Kyla2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed 3 nights here and I had an amazing stay! The property is very easy to find and extremely cozy! I noticed I didn’t have any cellular service, which added to my stay. It was a perfect getaway. I can’t wait to come back!

    Ben2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was a lovely and cozy cabin nestled in the woods. It was close to town, but felt like a secluded area. The hot tub was perfect at night and the cabin had everything we could’ve possibly needed for our stay. The host was available if needed and very helpful on local tips/directions. We plan to return again and would suggest this AirBnB to anyone else!

  • My husband and I were travelling in celebration of our 10 year wedding anniversary. We were so pleased with our stay at Maryann’s. The location of the cottage is perfect home base for travelling into Capitola, Santa Cruz, Monterrey, or enjoying the quietness of seaside and Aptos. The cottage itself should come with a ”beware of extreme relaxation” sign, as we through out most of our travel itinerary in exchange for the serenity and comforts the cottage offered. Maryann is an amazing host who goes out of her way to provide you with a welcoming experience. I really hope we can stay at the cottage again in the future. Thank you so much Maryann!

    Britney & Chase2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Maryann's place is charming, clean and comfortable. This place has all you need for nice, relaxing stay and the location is situated in a quiet neighborhood, but close enough to all Santa Cruz has to offer!

    Adrian2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Maryann's place gets three Cs: Clean, cozy, comfortable.

    John2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • Cute place. Great location. Check-in was easy. Maryann was very nice & friendly. Will definitely stay again in the future.

    Robert2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little home! The house is beautifully decorated and filled with all the necessary supplies. Maryann is a wonderful host. Communication was smooth, and she provided precise directions and clear instructions for entry. I loved the little touches she added, like the welcome board with our names, the fresh organic fruit, and the delicious pumpkin bread. She also provided a lot of good recommendations for things to do and places to eat in the area; we found her suggestions very helpful. We wanted a place where we could relax and enjoy some peace and quiet, and this cottage was perfect for such a weekend.

  • Their place nestled out there in the forest is pretty much a perfect place to stay. They’ve really thought of everything and got it all taken care of. As long as you can handle stairs and don’t mind just a little bit of a drive, you can’t do any better than this AirBNB. A full deserved 5 stars for sure!

    Julian2020-02-09T00:00:00Z

  • Heidi and Daniel’s place is a cozy little getaway in the woods. It was the perfect spot to relax and recharge for a couple of days. We loved the little reading nooks and the wide selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to get off the beaten path and relax in nature.

    Ariel2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Super cool place tucked away with beautiful redwoods all around!

    jordan2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi and Daniel's place was just as advertised. Our family of three (including 1 toddler) had a wonderful weekend retreat at their cabin in the redwoods. We unfortunately had a lot of rain that weekend and couldn't go hiking as planned, but their cabin was so nice we spent most of the time browsing their extensive book collection, drinking coffee / wine, and just enjoying the chance to be away. They had wonderful touches that made the place particularly fun for our toddler (including a pull-out futon, bubble bath solution, coloring pencils and paper, and lots of picture books for children). We'd definitely recommend and would stay again given the opportunity.

    Kimberly2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi and Daniels place was a great experience on all fronts. We had to get in super late from the bay - but the easy parking spot and code to get in the door made the late check in no problem. The place was full of interesting books and thoughtful ideas and activities. Bed super comfy, and coffee provided on wake up made it feel homey. Its walking distance to beautiful Nicene Marks and driving distance to Aptos, Capitola and Santa Cruz. Thanks Heidi and Daniel!

Hosts are very sweet, i used the yoga space which was very private and included mats, outdoor showers are amazing and the salt water spa bath is a lovely treat after a big day. It is a bit of an adventure to find but absolutely worth it! Would love to stay again and try the outside bath.

  • Far beyond my own expectations. The gardens, trees, succulents, and local animal populations make this place such an amazing and tranquil place to visit. But beyond the natural beauty of the property they have created a magical little Oasis with a clean pool, hot tubs, and small walking trails leading to all the other fantastic amenities the place has to offer. 10/10 would recommend to anyone

  • This is an amazing stay if you're looking to get away. The treehouse is truly peaceful and private. My girlfriend and I loved it but just remember to allow for drive time to and from places if you have reservations to make. It's a bit of a drive from Aptos but that's why it makes it a great getaway.

  • The whole reason why we chose this Airbnb was because we love the beach theme. The pictures were very descriptive but when we went to the Airbnb it was way better in person. Claudia was an excellent host she gave us a tour as soon as we got there very spacious had a microwave or refrigerator in the whole breakfast area beautiful bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub beautiful shower with lots of room. I love the fact that in the bathroom she had make up remover individually package Q-tips cotton balls bobby pins rubber bands has great amenities. She provided us places to visit in things to do in the area we enjoy the hot tub. We were about 15 to 20 minutes away from the beach which we brought our own beach cruisers and rode down to the beach. We would definitely visit this plac

One-bedroom apartment a few minutes walk from the Seacliff beach. Nice neighborhood with restaurants, a park, and shopping in walking distance.
A one-bedroom non smoking, family-oriented apartment located in a family owned fourplex.
Very close to beach, casual dining, and shopping. There's even a partial view of the ocean from the living room and front porch. We're about 10 minutes outside of Santa Cruz by car (although it can take 30 minutes or more during peak traffic times), about 45 minutes north of Monterey, and about 90 minutes south of San Francisco. San Jose and Silicon Valley are about 45 minutes when traffic is light and as much as 90 minutes during commute time or in weekend beach traffic.
  • Good place, not much on uber eats nearby: there's sushi, pizza, and a jack in a box

    John2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • The unit was clean, spacious, and complete with every amenity we could have wanted. Excellent heating for some chilly days and the most comfortable living room we’ve had the pleasure to spend time in. Our own carport space was also a nice convenience.

    Miriam2018-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great location 1 to 2 blocks from quaint restaurants where you can have a good local meal, then walk steps to the Seacliff Park, and meander across the street to Mariannes for ice cream. It is clean, comfortable, and good to hang out in or use as a base while you explore Monterey and Santa Cruz sites. Your host lives on premise and responsive to your needs. We loved it!

Shelter-in-Place in our serene paradise for the current COVID-19 pandemic. Message us to find out what extra precautions we are taking to comply with current CDC guidelines. Om Oasis is a beautiful and lush retreat center on several acres of a remote and peaceful mountain top property. The Om Oasis Retreat hosts guests who wish to connect with the beauty of nature. We are 10 minutes up the mountain and partially off-grid with limited cell reception but great WiFi connection.
Tucked beneath the redwoods, The Cedar Treehouse is a new structure on the property. Built with love and intention, this unique 10 sided studio features a sleeping loft with a king sized bed, a round dome sky light above, and a beautiful cedar ceiling. It is a small and cozy space perfect for a romantic getaway or solo adventure. For reference, this treehouse is 2 feet shorter and smaller in diameter than our larger Redwood Treehouse just down the hill. It is 16' in diameter. The bathroom has a large vanity mirror, a sink, shower and toilet. The living area hosts a love seat (with pull out twin bed), coffee table and a small kitchenette featuring a 2 burner stove, large sink and small mini fridge. PLEASE note: This treehouse is located up a mulched trail and then down a zig-zag dirt/mulch path and is not suitable for those with limited mobility, small children or wheeled luggage. Babies who are not yet mobile and older children are fine for the loft bedroom but we do not recommend mobile babies up to children age 5ish to stay in this particular unit.
Our property is on the border of Nisene Marks state park. We are on a ridge top with excellent views of the sunset, moon, and stars. We're also ten minutes from the town of Aptos where you'll find coffee shops, restaurants, grocery/convenience stores, and boutiques. The entrance to Nisene Marks State park, Sea Cliff state beach and Rio Del Mar beach are approximately 15 minutes away.

  • The Om Oasis is a beautiful piece of land, the photos don‘t do it justice. :) The Oasis is really big, it offers so many places to sit and relax, it is quiet and peaceful yet only 10 min into the next town. The tree house has its own little area, so you will feel really private. Inside the tree house is everything you need, but make sure to check out the wonderful bamboo outside shower. We didn‘t use the private sauna and spa, but it looked great, and the pool/hot tub area gives you wonderful views into the landscape, surrounded by hummingbirds. If you are looking for a few quiet days of one of a kind camping and enjoying nature, this is the place to be!

    Leonie2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The space and location was great for the time I needed it for. Great views would book the space again.

    Damian2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. It feels like a desert oasis tucked into the mountains. Watching the sunset from the hot tub is pure magic and all of the dwellings are far enough away from each other that you feel like there’s no one else on the property. The treehouse is the perfect amount of space and watching the sun rise through the skylight is perfect. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

    Tess2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place was so great, me and my wife had an amazing time and would love to come back again someday :)

    Spencer2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Truly a hidden gem. This is where you would go to unplug from the everyday hustle and bustle. My girlfriend and I already miss the treehouse and how close to nature we felt. We can’t wait to come back here again!

  • My stay at the Ceder Treehouse was more than relaxing. They have so much to offer like private yoga lessons, flower aromatherapy baths, private hot tub and sauna and so much more. The land itself is breathtaking! I really enjoyed the flexibility and amazing hospitality of my host. If you’re looking to unwind this is definitely a place I would recommend.

    Sarita2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Book the treehouse! A wonderful space, located on a stunning property. From the design of the treehouse, to hearing the owls at night and the woodpeckers during the day.. this is a hidden gem. Emberlie was the best host, there to welcome us and quick with replies. The treehouse is fun, comfortable, cozy and clean. The pool, hot tub, outdoor showers and sauna will make you feel you're in a place far from home. Can't recommend enough.

Nestled in a redwood grove below the main house, Juju Paradise has a 288 square foot cabin. Equipped with a propane stove and oven, composting toilet, and LED lighting- you will not long for the traditional amenities of the city.
*420 Friendly* However, please no smoking inside the cabin. We have 30 acres of redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The property has 50+ of Meyer lemon trees you are welcome to help yourself. The cabin is equipped with a Natures Head composting toilet. If you are not comfortable using a composting toilet, please do not request a reservation. The outdoor/open air shower is heated. We provide shampoo and body wash specific for the shower system. No fridge. However, we do provide a Coleman ice chest. Please bring your own ice. The Cabin is located in the mountains. Please familiarize yourself with the general area on the map that Airbnb provides so you aren't surprised. Please see below for approx. drive times. OUR STORY: The origins of the counter culture in the sixties, the majestic redwoods, a legacy of generations of farming and caring for the land. We are at 880 foot elevation three miles inland from Monterey Bay nestled in the redwoods and oaks. Our roots at JuJu Paradise run deep. Born and raised on this mountain a quarter mile from the paradise, our family has protected and nurtured this land. Judy (JuJu of JuJu Paradise) moved onto the land in 1972 and grew organic produce here for 41 years. She planted seventy five Meyer lemon trees that share the orchard with our grow and continue to produce the best organic lemons anywhere. She left us the land when she passed in 2014, and we are passionate about continuing her legacy of natural farming and care for the earth.
Located 3.1 miles from the Aptos Post office up Cathedral Drive. The cabin in is nestled in the redwoods for the perfect escape from the city.

  • This was the most peaceful and relaxing location that we have experienced. It was a wonderful start to our trip and we hope to come back soon! This was scenic, secluded, and had amazing forest views which is just what we needed. It was also very accessible to the nearby town which made the commute easy! I would highly recommend to anyone!

  • Cal's cabin is amazing. Not only did he build it, but he's got a great story about his property. Make sure to ask him about it!!! The cabin was perfect for our overnight trip to Santa Cruz (He's about 20 mins south) for our wedding anniversary. The cabin is cozy. Perfect for a couple. The small heater heater warms up the entire cabin. Especially the loft area where the bed is. The outdoor shower is really cool and the water gets really hot so you don't even realize your outside. The cabin far exceeded my expectations and we will be returning soon just to get away from the city.

    Veronica2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The perfectly clean, cute, and getaway cabin. My friends and I really enjoyed this cabin even if it was only for one night. Thank you again for your flexibility in extending our check-out by an hour! We would love to be back!

A peaceful bedroom near the sea surrounded by a beautiful garden. Go to sleep listening to the waves
Only 10 minute walk to the beach. Only a 10 minute drive to the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park where you can find some of the biggest redwoods in the world. Only 5 minute drive to shopping center and Restaurants. Golf course minuets away.
Rio Del Mar is a family residential area on the "beach side" of Aptos. Houses are close together (everyone wants to live beach side!) , but people are friendly and welcoming.
  • Wonderful to wake up to peace and quiet. Lovely view of the garden and trees from the balcony. We ended up spending less time out and about and more time sitting on the balcony, drinking tea, and reading books. I got halfway through A Man Called Jove. I met Rebecca for one of her massage therapy sessions and she said to take the book home with me. My husband enjoyed reading David Dillard-Wright's A Mindful Evening. The space was perfect for the two of us, everything is new and clean and warm and cozy. The kitchen has coffee and tea. The bathroom medicine cabinet has everything you might have forgotten. We felt very well taken care of. We hope to come back soon.

  • Rebecca’s Place was a perfect little resting spot as we traveled along Highway 1!

    Sarah2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca's place is incredible. It is insanely clean and has nice personal touches throughout. The bed is comfortable and the kitchenette is perfect for a few day stay. You can hear the waves when sitting on the deck or if you leave the sliding door open. I would highly recommend this place for a romantic getaway. It is the perfect place to relax, unwind and reconnect with your significant other n a serene setting.

  • Gold standard for Airbnb. 5 stars well deserved! Cozy, crystal clean with a beautiful view and everything you could need. Forgot a toothbrush? There’s a brand new one in the medicine cabinet! Need a first aid kit? It’s under the sink! Get in late after everything is closed? The snacks will get you through! Have any questions? Just ask! Rebecca will get back to you in no time!

  • I visited Ricardo’s place for a quick get away to the coast. His location is right by the ocean (walking distance), and a quaint ice cream show with ~tons~ of flavors. It’s close to Capitola and Santa Cruz, and we even hopped over to Monterey quickly too! I love that there was a separate entrance and total privacy. Ricardo is extremely quick to respond if you have any issues or requests. There is plenty of space in the room, and everything is clean and tidy. 10/10 would recommend you visit!
