Ballytarsna-Hackett Castle is a 15th century tower house, built inside a now-ruined 13th Century castle. It is like a keep, with one major difference. Where a keep is a powerful thick-walled tower, an Irish tower house is a home for the family, that also serves as a keep. When restoring this tower, we have maintained its status as a fortress. We have also have made it warm and comfortable. It is a cozy country home ensconced between castellated battlements, authentic and usable! Warm and dry!
“This was the highlight of our trip! We arrived just after dark and the hosts greeted us with scones and tea and great conversation. They told us the history of the castle and the area and gave us a very thorough tour of the castle and the restorations. There was a very comfy living room with plenty of books and tv and even a complimentary bottle of wine. Then there was a large bedroom with two double beds and a big bedroom at the top of the tower. The views were incredible and the space itself was beautifully restored and it was so special to be able to stay in such an interesting place. They gave us a suggestion for dinner which we tried and loved. I thought it was conveniently located. We drove that day from Dublin and spent much of the day in Kilkenny and then it was only a short drive to the castle from there. It’s only 10 minutes from the rock of cashel and then another 20 minutes to Cahir castle. Don’t hesitate to book this. You won’t regret it. The only drawbacks I can think of would be the stairs if you have a disability. However I am a very out of shape person and it really wasn’t much trouble and certainly worth the experience and the views. Another thing to note is there are two bathrooms and one tub and no shower. All in all a wonderful experience I would recommend to anyone!”

“What a wonderful find. From the moment I booked,Mary and Gavin couldn't have been more helpful. They were quick with their responses to any queries I had and always friendly. Gavin met us when we arrived and was so friendly and welcoming which was lovely,he also had some good stories to share about the cottage and local area. The space was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed. The decking area was beautiful with lovely views and the hot tub was amazing. Lovely little lights light up the decking area at night time so it's a lovely place to relax and unwind. Would recommend staying more than one night if you can as it's quite close to some nice towns and tourist attractions. Would definitely stay again and would recommend it to anybody. Lovely cottage, lovely hosts.”
We offer a warm and friendly welcome to our home which is in a rural area only a 5 minute drive from the historical town of Cashel. The Rock of Cashel is a must-see for anyone visiting the area! Our home is located only 2km drive away from the motorway which is halfway to Dublin and Cork. It is also only a 60 minute drive away to other cities in Ireland such as Kilkenny,Limerick and Waterford.
“Anne's place is clean. The beds are comfortable and you are close to Cashel town (a 5 min drive or taxi). Breakfast is cereals, fruit, tea and toast and a hard-boiled egg (I don't like them and since it's self-service I'd rather just an uncooked egg to cook myself) in a lovely kitchen. Anne is very friendly and doesn't impose on you at all.”
