Near the end of the road close to the south east side of Ullswater, escape from it all in this 17th Century cottage with river frontage. With 25 years of wonderful holidays there we hope we’ve thought of everything should the Cumbrian weather keep you indoors. There’s ping pong, a full-sized snooker table, darts, table football, countless games and the famous (at least in our household) Bridge End Beech Curling in the barn. In 2.5 acres of its own land, sometimes shared with sheep and red deer.

Finkle Laithe was built in 1767, converted from a barn in 2000, new bathrooms in 2019, new kitchen, windows and repainted in 2025. Retains many original features including latch doors, oak trusses and lintels. Situated in the tiny hamlet of Matterdale End it is a perfect retreat for couples wishing to stay together or one couple looking for a special destination. Ullswater is within easy reach for steam cruises and water sports. There are great walks from the door and Aira force is close by.

The C2C cycle track runs from up the road along the old roman road from Keswick to Penrith. Friendly pub with dinner & ales is 2 min walk down the road.

We have a variety of animals grazing in the fields and fresh farm eggs available.
