The highest mountain on the island, most of it is covered with a dense pine tree forest.Once you get to the top (if the weather is good ) you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the Ionian sea and the surrounding islands. There are multiple ways to get to the top of the mountain, the more conventional would be via car but if you enjoy hiking there are trails leading to the top.

Mount Ainos is the highest mountain in Kefalonia. Ainos national park is located around 30 km (18.6 miles) away from Argostoli. The national park is ideal for hiking and mountain biking, and bird-watchers might spot woodpeckers, eagles, vultures, and hawks. It is a perfect place to enjoy a small picnic and relax while watching the view. The mountain top offers captivating views of the island and of neighboring islands such as Ithaca, Zakynthos and Lefkada on a clear day. The mountain is covered with dense greenery and is home to a wide and exotic range of flora and fauna. The forest here is home to the blackbird, the Owl, the Coal Tit and various other species. You can park (or arrange a drop-off) at the transmitter station, then take the signposted dirt track to the summit, passing native orchids and wild ponies, while breathing in aromas of firs.

If youre a nature lover, a day trip to ainos mountain is highly recommended. Located in the middle of the island with perfect views all over. Ainos is also a national park due to its unique flora and fauna, and specifically for its unique "black fir". Its also called the black mountain due tok that. Take supplies with you cause up there its pure nature.

Lovely views, nice breeze up at the top. You can drive most of the way up the mountain and park your car by the masts. Follow the track off, past the picnic area, and downhill a bit. You bend round to the right and there are stairs off to the right. Follow them up and then climb over the rocks and you’re at the summit. It’s a steep walk, but reasonably short.

Breathtaking view and amazing hiking trails across the protected national park of Ainos mountain. If you are lucky you may spot the wild horses. While during the night is oneof the best spots on the island for stargazing! Tips: take a jacket cause its often windy as well as water and snacks.
