The Alexandria National Museum was built in the Italian style according to a wealthy man in Alexandria who was the owner of it in the beginning, then that man sold his palace to the American Embassy in 1954, and then the Supreme Council of Antiquities of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture bought it in 1996 and began to restore it and turn it into Alexandria National Museum and its opening in 2003. The Alexandria National Museum includes a large collection of artifacts that may number up to 1,800 artifacts from all ancient and modern times. These artifacts were brought from many museums scattered throughout Egypt, such as the Coptic Museum in Cairo, the Islamic Museum, the Greek and Roman Museum and others Museums are antiquities collected to represent the Egyptian civilization. The Alexandria National Museum is unique in the presence of a group of sunken antiquities that were recovered, such as the statue of “Isis” made of black granite and a head belonging to the statue of “Alexander the Great.” It includes large numbers of currencies of different eras, such as the Islamic era and the Byzantine era, some of which were found under the waters of the "Abu Qir" Gulf, and it contains some jewelry and gold collectibles belonging to the family of King "Mohammed Ali", and many other antiquities that will impress you when tourism in Alexandria. The museum is located in a former Italianate mansion. It's the former home of a wood sales person.It used to house the United States consulate. The building dates back to 1926, located around a large garden, in addition to housing a basement. The three-storey palace was a meeting place for the Egyptian upper-class society of Alexandria. Collection The Alexandria National Museum contains around 1,800 artifacts that narrate the story of Alexandria and Egypt. Most of these pieces came from other Egyptian museums.
