Drinks & Nightlife

These are the places that I go to when I go out with my friends in the Lead and Deadwood area.
Paddy's is the sister to Paddy's in Rapid. Great ambiance and drink selection, better quality.
Paddy O'Neill's Irish Pub & Grill
555 Main Street

Saloon 10 is iconic. Wild Bill was shot here (although technically he was shot at the original Saloon 10 location down the street. Saloon 10 moved to this location after the Deadwood fire of 1876.) The call it "the museum in which you can drink". There are many interesting relics on the walls and ceiling. It is the most popular bar in Deadwood. There is live music here many nights a week.

Great, local brewery that people really enjoy. Her brews are consistent and tasty. I recommend the spicy jalapeño or hatch options! Amazing!

This is my friends and I hangout. Also, where scientists from around the world hang out. It's clean, friendly, with a great ambiance, and a variety of things to do year round.

I love this place for the great tequila selection and the game room up top that few people know about. This is where the locals go.

Food Scene

Popular eating options in the Lead-Deadwood area.
Lotus up has a great location across from the open cut mine and visitors center. Large windows give amazing views of the mine. It has a good reputation for both drinks and food.

Yummy hamburgers. Eclectic ambiance with all sorts of stuff on the walls and ceiling. I see something new everything I go. The Southwestern Dakota burger is so good I rarely eat anything else - two meals in one!

Very consistent food and service. They have a pub side that's a sports bar and a restaurant side that adds a more elegant experience. You can't go wrong at the lodge.

Elegance in Deadwood. For the Wild West town of Deadwood, this place is pretty swank! Consistently high level of food and service, including unusual and interesting options (such as pheasant, buffalo, etc). Best for adults or older kids.

Entertainment & Activities

There are all sorts of things to do around the Lead-Deadwood area. Here are some of our favorites...
FREE My favorite part of the visitor center is the 3-D installation that shows you the extent of the mine shafts. It is said that they run under the entire town of Lead (pronounced LEED). They have tours of the mine that leave the visitor center throughout the day during the busy season (Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend). They have many pictures and videos and information.

To honor his friend, President Teddy Roosevelt, Seth Bullock had Friendship Tower built above Deadwood. Nice little one mile hike uphill and back down again. Great views from up top.

This place is unexpectedly cool. You know those rides at Disneyland like the matterhorn where you feel like you're really in a mountain? This is what this place is like. The top level is a gift shop, and historical items. Then they take you down, down, down into the "mine". They had miners build a lot of the items so it really represents what the Homestake Mine looks like. Only open seasonally in the summer months.
