Pike Place Market is more than just a market! There are crafts, flowers, restaurants, sidewalk entertainers, the original Starbucks, amazing handmade cheese at Beechers, wine, nightlife, stores, flying fish! Pike Place Market has recently been refurbished and additional space has been added so it is not quite as crowded as it used to be but it is still extremely busy! Come early (9-9:30am) to avoid crowds.

A wonderful way to get a feel for the true Seattle -- take a ferry! If you walk on there is not a wait. For a small fee (11$ could be more now, free returning) you can see Seattle and the surrounding area from the water and experience an island -- try the ferry to Bainbridge as a day trip. Winslow is a three block walk with shops and nice lunch places as well as the Bainbridge art museum. It's breezy so bring a sweater or light jacket. Ferries leave about once per hour when you are ready to head back home.

This nine acre outdoor sculpture park (plus beach!) has so many interesting sculptures, right near downtown, and it's free! See the racing old fashioned eraser by Claes Oldenburg, or the life size silver tree among other things.
