Really popular place in the neighborhood. Music in the evening, but I would recommend their brunch. It's nothing fancy, but pretty cheap and one of the few places you can sit outside.

This place has been around forever, apparently one of the most authentic Puerto Rican restaurants in the city. If you're in the mood for chicken and rice, this place is it. Also very reasonably priced. NY Times Review: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/28/nyregion/casa-adela-in-east-village-is-the-home-of-the-magical-rotisserie-chicken.html

Getting Around

1st Ave - L Train (I use this train the most) About a 10 min walk, takes you WEST to Union Square/ 6th Ave/ 8th Ave if you want to go Uptown or Downtown in Manhattan. OR takes you to Brooklyn, if you want to go to Williamsburg/ Greenpoint/ Bushwick/ Queens.

BUS STOP for 14D - Bus straight to L train! This bus takes you directly to the L train in 5 minutes. You get a free bus transfer with your metrocard, so can take one bus ride and one subway ride for $2.75. I use it all the time, they come every couple minutes... so you're never waiting very long.

BUS STOP for M8 - Bus straight to Astor Place and West Side! This just runs across town just like the L. It doesn't come as often as the 14D, but if I'm going cross town and I see it coming I usually hop on. It's very convenient!

BUS STOP for M9 - Bus that goes downtown to financial district/ Chinatown OR to UES. I don't take it that much, but if you're going way downtown on the east side it's convenient.

CITI BIKE DOCK - $10 for a 24 hr rental, I only cycle along the East or Hudson River's. There's a really great bike path that goes most of the way around the city on the river. From the apt you can access it from E 10th St and Ave D (you'll see the overpass on the other side of the roundabout). I have a helmet, please ask to use! I never ever ride without it and I don't ride in the city itself and would advise against it.

Sightseeing

EAST RIVER PARK - the overpass is here, you can cross over the highway and get to the park where you can walk along the river. There are great views of Brooklyn, all of the bridges, and the Statue of Liberty! It's really cool and worth checking out if you can.
