14th street from V street south all the way to Logan Circle probably has about 50 restaurants. My favorites are Pearl Dive, Cork, Le Diplomate, Lupo Verde and Estadio. Washingtonian Magazine is a good source for reviews.

This place is a lot of fun but can be kinda crazy on the weekends. It's also a bit far but it's really nice inside...worth a check if you have time. And Rappahanock Oysters are served in the center at a great spot. Can never have enough oysters!

More food and shopping on U Street and Shaw. Lots of new, cools spots. There's actually a place called Anxo which is a cidery and pinxos Basque bar!

Eastern Market on Sundays is so much fun and if you have the time, it's definitely worth finding your way there. You can take the metro to Eastern Market station and walk over. While you're there, also walk up 7th street and down Pennsylvania ave. This is the heart of Capitol Hill and it's a lot of fun, a bit crowded but REALLY worth spending the day. And if you take your map, you can walk to the Capitol and to the Supreme Court, Library of Congress, etc etc.

Go to the top of the W hotel when you're wandering around near the White House. It has the best view of the city! Also while you're there, find the Renwick Gallery and go next door to Old Ebbitt Grill. It's one of the oldest restaurants in DC and it's huge -- i think it takes an entire city block. They're open very early to very late.

Parks & Nature

Of course Rock Creek Park is across the street and it's full of paths but i love Meridian Hill Park. It's a beautiful park that on occasion has fountains flowing and there are always people everywhere dancing, working out, hanging with their dogs/friends, etc. Check it out and then keep walking... :)

Arts & Culture

This collection is really special and it's on Dupont Circle, another great place to go and explore. Use the museum as your first stop and then check out the fountain in the circle and wander around the shops and restaurants.

The new African American Museum is great but it requires an early morning if you don't get tix. That may have changed by now; worth a look. It's also worth doing a search of special exhibitions that are in town.

Target has everything and is on 14th and Irving. Adams Mill Rd turns into Irving St at the end of the street so it's pretty close. There's also Marshalls, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Best Buy, Giant Food, etc. all in the same place.

Getting Around

There's a DC bike share at the bottom of Adams Mill Rd, right at the entrance of the zoo. Always a good way to get around but be sure and be careful and bike defensively. DC is a city of transients and you can never count on drivers to yield to you.

Everything Else

Everything is on the Hill. Eastern Market is great for Sundays. People watching is great. The Capitol is fantastic to walk around (or plan a tour) and the Library of Congress and Supreme Court are worth walking to as well. The Hill is also full of great restaurants (8th Street) and shops.
