Food Scene

Really great Italian food, in an amazing location. Go for the sunset, and it's also a great haven when the wind is up and the sea is roaring!

Well, The Good Companions is a pub, but it's best for food - particularly roast dinners on a Sunday. The garden is good for most of the year, and open enough that it's not too smokey. Food outside of Sunday is also pretty good - we'd go there at lunchtimes pretty regularly.

Really nice Japanese food. The sushi is pretty good, and there are some great specials. This is our 'special treat' restaurant, but it's not crazy pricey.

We only recently discovered this place, but it does rival Murasaki for quality sushi and bento boxes. It has some really good lunch specials too, so can be a bit cheaper.

This is our go-to takeaway for Indian food. It's really good, though you may have to collect (it's only a short stroll from the flat). I heartily recommend the chicken lajawab, and the moto paneer.

Another good local pub for Sunday roast. I've not been recently, as it's a little more cramped than the Good Companions (and hard to get a pushchair in) - but before we had Aiden it was our regular Sunday haunt. The lamb roast was always amazing.

A decent Thai restaurant, and local. You can collect takeaway too, but I do recommend going there if you like fish dishes.

Small Batch know how to make a great coffee, and this cafe is really convenient to the flat. They do nice breakfast rolls and sandwiches too - it's a great place for a light breakfast or lunch.

Essentials

Having a Waitrose down the hill is great. It's got everything you need to cook at the flat - from high quality microwave/oven meals to fresh fish and veg. Not the cheapest of supermarkets, but it's the best.

The two Co-Op stores on Dyke Road - a small one on the dials roundabout, and a larger one 100m up Dyke Road - are handy for basic groceries when you're feeling a little too lazy to walk down to Waitrose. Nowhere near the same range, but good in a pinch!
