Food Scene

Our FAVORITE coffee shop and bakery of all time. The muffins, rolls, and bars are huge and to die for. Their house mug is the kicker though - $1.51 and a free refill! We've never had a bad cup.

The Blacksburg Farmers Market is open on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. There is typically live music, children and pups running around in the grass, and friendly vendors for treats, drinks, food, toys, and some grocery items. One of our favorite places to walk to and meet up with friends.

This is THE place to go for breakfast and brunch. We are not vegetarian but this place is and it is still our favorite. I've heard you can call this 'Appalachian' fare. Our go-to menu item is splitting the "Gillies Special" which is eggs over potatoes topped with salsa and cheese and comes with a giant homemade biscuit or toast, but everything is well priced and a good portion. Most Sunday and many Saturday mornings will be busy during the school year so arrive early. I am also a fan of lunch, but I have only ever had one item on the menu because I love it so much - the "Gillies Burger" which is the most amazing bean burger with veganaise and Asian slaw.

Drinks & Nightlife

Restaurant and bar. In the early evening we love their outdoor front seating and order a calzone every time. At night we head downstairs (entrance on the side!) and our favorite drink is a shared pint of hoegaarden.

Parks & Nature

This is a great spot to go for a stroll in the open air, let the kids and pups run around crazy, play frisbee or soccer or football, and take in the beauty of the Virgnia Tech campus.

This is a great place to go for a walk, jog, or bike by yourself or with a friend and has mile markers for accountability. It is paved and flat for the first almost mile where it goes alongside of Lane Stadium, where the Marching Virginians practice, the German Club, grass fields, cute houses, a water stop, and then back towards campus. After this it has some great hills, still paved, benches, and great views for almost 7 miles.

A short walk from campus to see some beautiful sights all year round and of course feed the ducks!
