When standing by the pillar at the east gate to the main hall of Yasaka Shrine, facing the west side and clapping your hands in prayer, you will hear a roaring sound coming from the ceiling. This is why this ceiling is called “Ryuboe Tenjo” or “Nakiryu Tenjo,” both of which mean “the ceiling of the roaring dragon.”

Tanka…a shop of traditional Japanese clay dolls There are over 90 kinds of traditional clay doll nationwide, and it is said that they all have their origins in Fushimi Dolls, the very first of their kind. The number of shapes and types that have been produced totals over two thousand, and many traditions and customs have been represented through these simple yet lovely dolls. The only working pottery left in existence is Tanka, which was established in the mid-18th century and is now run by the 7th generation of craftspersons connected with it.
稲荷山の埴土を以て造った最も古い郷土玩具、伏見人形。 当時伏見街道沿いには約60軒もの窯元が軒を連ねていたが、現在では江戸寛延年間 (1748-51年) 創業の窯元、丹嘉のみ。
