Pretty Good Fish and Chips
HUGE selection of fresh seafood. Pretty good fish and chips. And for a really budget meal, we sometimes just buy some of their buttered bread rolls (take our own bottle of sauce), buy a box of chips and enjoy chip butties sitting on the grass after a play and swim with the children. We stay away from the artificial grass right outside Charis and sit a little further away on a picnic table or on the real grass.

Tamborine Mountain has some lovely bush walks, craft shops, restaurants, coffee shops and markets. The Botanic Gardens are small but worth a look, especially in Spring. We sometimes take a picnic or just a coffee and some cake to eat there. There are lovely views and you can watch the hang gliders and paragliders on the Western Escarpment accessible via the Main Western Road. The cedar Creek Falls are an easy walk and are lovely.

Shopping

For a meal, movie or a bargain. Everyone seems to love it here for shopping. WE LOVE THE CINEMA! There are 14 cinemas, so plenty of movies to choose from and the tickets are just $9. The best value cinema on the Gold Coast, and you can grab a meal just outside. You can catch the bus easily to Harbour town from the apartment, or if you are really keen you could walk. Its probably only about a half hour walk. You might want to catch the bus home though if you have lots of shopping bags ;-) To catch a bus: Walk 281m to the bus stop on Frank Street at Whiting Street, Labrador (on the northbound side of the street). Catch the 704 bus to Harbour Town, stop B, Biggera Waters. This trip takes approximately 10 or 15 minutes (depending on how well you time the bus - don't just miss one!)

Essentials

We love Aldi. Its very reasonably priced and we like their products. Its also very quick and easy to shop there ( but you need to buy bags or take your own and use a $2 coin for a trolley (refundable). A lot of their packaged food items are made in Europe e.g. Cheese twist Crackers are made in France (with Gruyere cheese), Brioche made in France. Chocolate made in Germany - Yum!

Getting Around

To catch the bus, just walk out to one of the bus stops on the Gold Coast Highway (or Frank Street). Frank Street becomes the Gold Coast Highway (so they are sort of one and the same road). There are bus stops on the northbound and the southbound sides of the road, depending on which direction you want to travel in. The cheapest and easiest way to travel is by purchasing a 'go card'. You may be able to purchase one online, at a train station, a g-link terminal or at a 7-11 store. You can load them with funds and reload them. You just need to remember to 'tap on and tap off' at the start and the end of your journey so that you are not overcharged. Fares are about 25% cheaper this way. Alternatively, if you arrange it in advance, I may be able to purchase one for you and you can pay me in cash on your arrival. Children under 4 or 5 years of age are free on public transport. This is a very helpful link; it is a journey planner. Just type in where you want to leave from and where you want to go, the day and time and it will tell you exactly how to do it. I use it all the time. mobile.jp.translink.com.au
