Zuane is probably the best Italian restaurant in Dar. Owned by Italians with an Italian chef it offers fresh pasta, delicious pizzas, risotto, gnocchi, Italian coffee, good wine and great desserts.

Salt is owned by an English lady who has a passion for food. Everything is home made from the bread to the cakes. The portions are enormous and the food very tasty.

The Karambezi is a great place to have a lazy lunch or a dinner with live music at the weekends. It is located on the cliff top at the Sea Cliff hotel so there are stunning views from the deck.

The George and Dragon is very lively on a Friday and Saturday night but also busy during the week. Good music and beer garden out the back. It is located 5 minutes walk from my house. They also serve traditional English pub food inside and bbq in the garden.

The Slow Leopard is a sports bar, 5-10 minutes walk from my house. Go there to meet people, watch sports. Very lively at the weekends and on weekdays when rugby players gather after a game.

Level 8 bar on the roof top of the Hyatt Regency is a great place to have a sundowner. It is rather expensive though. On top of the Hyatt you have a wonderful view of the harbor and town center. They also have two restaurants.

You can catch the boat to Bongoyo Island from the Slipway. It is good to go on one of the first ferries around 9 a.m. and come back around 2 p.m. There are cold drinks (beer/sodas/water) and hot food (fish/calamari/prawns/chicken and chips) for sale on the island. There are some good snorkeling spots just off the island.
