Grocery Store

Locally owned, Brookshire's is always where I go for fresh produce! This location sells beer and wine, as well.

This is the closest Walmart. It has a pharmacy, garden center, and bakery. There is also a Walmart gas station right in front of it that commonly has the best fuel prices.

Food scene

Tele's has good food, but even better service. They are a good casual Mexican food option.

Posados is the best Mexican food around, in my opinion. The wait might be longer than Tele's Mexican Restaurant. Peak hours and days can get pretty busy. They have a full bar, separate from the larger dining area. They offer pickup, dine-in, or patio seating depending on the season.

The food is good, full bar, with live music on weekends. It is surrounded by a park, a few cafes, shopping/ boutiques, the library, and the fire department. (Plus its a great place to hit for Pokestops!)

This place doesn't look like much, but their pizza is amazing! Im not sure if their delivery reaches the Airbnb house. But its only about five min away for pickup.

Outdoor Fun

This park might take a second to get to, but it is completely worth it. They have a trail around the lake, you can fish, soccer field, event pagoda, basketball court, tennis court, playground, and restroom facilities. It's free for everyone. There is parking in front of the pagoda when you first come in, but you can drive a little farther and it opens up into a larger more open parking lot.

This is a brand new park with a splash pad, playground, and dog park! There are small pavilions to eat or gather friends in. It is right beside the police and fire department, as well as the many stores and cafes in the immediate area. Plus you are just a stone's throw from the library!

Splash pad! The Van City Park is in good condition, there are a lot of newer additions, and it is the closest to your Airbnb. There is a pagoda right near the splash pad where some people have birthday parties, etc.

Traveler advice

Getting around

No public transportation to speak of.

This house is in an area that is filled with beautiful farms. However, that means we don't get a bus, train, or Lyft. If you need to get to Dallas, there is a for-profit shuttle that goes from Hideaway Lake to Dallas every day. We definitely recommend renting a car if you didn't bring yours.
What to pack

Bring light clothing.

East Texas is only TRULY cold for a couple months out of every year. The rest of the time, its hot and humid. November through February a coat and hat might be nice. Perhaps layers if you are cold natured. But the rest of the time it's hot! Jeans, t-shirts, sundresses, shorts, etc. are all very common here.
Traveling with kids

Bring vests/ floats for children.

Since this house has a pool and spa, its easy for the adults to relax in the spa and keep an eye on the kids. However, we do not have safety devices like arm floats, life vests, or baby-seat floats. So bring whatever makes you feel comfortable for them to use.
