Scenic port Townsend, where the movie an Officer and a Gentleman was filmed, offers beautiful beaches and a rich maritime history to explore. Several solid restaurants and cafés along the water, as well as kayak rental. Great wooden boat museum, and host to the fantastic wooden boat festival, mid-September.

Food scene

Tides Tavern has been around for a while, and although 21+ only, does a nice job with tasty fare and local beers In a rustic waterfront setting. Find a place out on the deck if it’s available. This used to be my great aunt’s grocery store at the turn of the century!

Just about the most amazing Vista for enjoying a pint that you can imagine…featuring Mount Rainier and the entrance of Gig Harbor sand spit. Limited inside seating, but more outside on the deck or down below in the grassy area, with gas fire pits during the cold months. Bring your own food from anywhere, they don’t have a kitchen.
