Designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, this cliffside teahouse and restaurant perches alluringly above a crashing sea. Chef Rui Paula have the best fish and seafood to make the Boa Nova restaurant a new Northern Portugal gastronomic icon and thus honor the Matosinhos culinary tradition and also the genius of a property that seems to be born of stones, in communion with the sea and the surrounding landscape.

In Oporto, there are places like this: irresistible and romantic. Surrounded by lush green gardens and situated in the old tennis court, the Serralves Tea House offers a unique atmosphere. With interior room and terrace, it’s a place to enjoy before or after a raid by the exhibits and gardens of the Foundation.

A restaurant that turns into a bar with a guest house above. The space surprises for the duality of feelings that comes from the semi-industrial design reflected in the cold gray walls badly painted, large areas with panels and ceilings with exposed beams, contrasting with the warm comfort light, retro furniture carefully chosen to give a refined look, books that invite you to learn, tables that resemble the homes of our grandparents inviting conversations with ideas. A site with a bohemian personality, marked by intimacy, creativity and modernity.

This is one of my favorite spots, always with a good background music selection. It’s more than a coffee place in the usual sense of the word but rather a bar and a restaurant wishing to be an option for any time of the day. With a modern decor, this space turns for itself the staying so very pleasant, in a casual and cozy atmosphere that strives for good taste. It is a restaurant with several options throughout the day, providing a cheap option for lunch in the entrance dining room or a more sophisticated dinner on the second floor. Check out also the indoor garden that is captivating and brings to this space a unique added value.

Excellent bike ride! you just have to go from Castelo do Queijo to Afurada, first along the beach and then along the river until you’ll reach the 2nd bridge on the Douro River (D. Luis bridge – another of Porto’s icons) and crossing it to visit the Porto Cellars on Cais de Gaia, it’s the views of Porto and the bustling Ribeira waterfront that are the most spectacular feature. Wander along the riverbank that goes all the way to Afurada - a fishing village where you can eat good fish. My favourite restaurant is Taberna de S. Pedro. To go back you can simply take the boat to the shore of Porto.

Tram 1 of Porto - Line 1, « Infante-Passeio Alegre », follows the river Douro to reach Foz do Douro. This trip in an authentic charming tram is full of romance and a great way to discover in passing the Solar do vinho do porto (the wine institute), the Museo Carro Electrico and some splendid buildings and landscapes. A tram comes along every twenty minutes or so and they run between 9 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.

Foz - To fully discover Porto and its history you must go to Foz do Douro. Facing the Atlantic you’ll be struck by an incredible quality of life, the utmost romantic walks where every evening sun and sea merge into one spectacular climax, watch the sunset over the Atlantic, a good spot is the terrace at Praia da Luz but there are many other to choose. From seaside to riverside - Stroll along the beach watching the Atlantic and the waterside by Douro, on foot, by bike or by the old tram line (yes, it’s still working!).

(in English Garden of Virtues) - is a beautiful vertical garden over the Douro, which goes unnoticed to many of the Porto inhabitants. Located at the back of the Palacio da Justiça, this hidden garden is known by few and is one of the hidden charms of the city Invicta (that’s the cognomen for Porto). One of the peculiarities of this garden that distinguishes itself from others is the fact that it is vertical, it grows in steep levels.

Housed in a former jail, the Portuguese Photography Center (free) has an unusual setting as well as impressive temporary photography exhibitions. The building dates to the 18th century and held prisoners until the Carnation Revolution in 1974; grills still cover the windows. On the third floor is a hugely impressive collection of cameras from every decade, including some fabulous “espionage” cameras from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s that are disguised as rolls of sweets, cans of Pepsi and packets of Marlboros.
