A short walk (15 minutes) up Carlton hill is well worth it- brilliant views over Edinburgh, as well as the iconic pillars of a replica Parthenon. Back in the 1820’s, there was a vision to make Edinburgh the “Athen’s of the North” and this was supposed to be a complete replica of the famous Parthenon on the Athenian Acropolis. Unfortunately it was never finished, due to lack of funds. You can (carefully) climb up onto the stricture it and look out across the Edinburgh sky line. This is my favourite view of Edinburgh.
